I'm un decided, we have done it once for a week before...just been browsing prices for the rest of the year. It does not sit right with me taking them out, I don't like the idea of them missing work and what not. They are year 2 and 4. But my god the price drops make it so bloody tempting.

I do it every year. I am not ashamed!

Branleuse Tue 19-Feb-13 12:02:47

me.

i wouldn't do it in exam years and school won't authorise it if attendance is below 95% but i took them all out for a last min centerparcs break a few weeks ago

SashaSashays Tue 19-Feb-13 12:03:34

Same, do it nearly every year. Have never really had any major issues with schools over it.

mrsjay Tue 19-Feb-13 12:06:50

me well 1 day was too expensive to fly good friday I have done it before I just usually do it near the end of term as long as children are not doing exams I really honestly dont see the problem,

mrsjay Tue 19-Feb-13 12:07:56

so they are 6 and 8ish ? take them I would, we also have flown from an english airport as it was nowhere near the English holidays

Taking them out for the final day of the summer term. To go the following day would cost £100 more to come back on the same day hmm. The friday flight is very early in the morning as well, so gives us another half day in the resort.

mrsjay Tue 19-Feb-13 12:14:46

it is mad the price hike just because it happens to be an end of term day confused

Sugarice Tue 19-Feb-13 12:16:12

We can't due to exams this year but when they were at primary school and not missing SATS it didn't concern me one jot.

mrsjay Tue 19-Feb-13 12:18:24

we Don't have SATS in scotland so that was never an issue for taking out, I think the earliest we have taken out is may when dds were 6 and 1 ,

Groovee Tue 19-Feb-13 12:25:10

We'll miss the last day of school in June!

5madthings Tue 19-Feb-13 12:26:38

We went on holiday in sept last year and its looking like dp won't be able to get anytime off in the school holidays again so we will probably end up going in September again.

amillionyears Tue 19-Feb-13 12:28:21

We did it a couple of times.
Teachers understood.
But we didnt do it for price. We did it because no way could DH have work time off during school summer months, so it was the only way we could all go away as a family in summertime.

mrsjay Tue 19-Feb-13 12:29:40

we did that one year dd had just started school and DH holidays were fixed so we took her out for a week

noisytoys Tue 19-Feb-13 12:31:01

We went to Florida in September / October last year. The difference between term time and half term was about £2k

CaurnieBred Tue 19-Feb-13 12:32:18

We do it for skiing to get quieter slopes - DD still at primary. Have never taken her out for a summer holiday but have booked to go to Australia next December to visit family which will mean her missing 7 days at the end of term.

I did take her out for half a day to come into London for the Olympic Parade which was unauthorised but I felt that was something she should see as an event like that will probably never happen again in her life time (there will be parades but not one after a home Olympics).

mrsjay Tue 19-Feb-13 12:33:52

yes we saved going to florida in june about 1k that was just the week before school broke up here,

Donnadoon Tue 19-Feb-13 12:36:56

I think if more people did it I wouldn't feel so bad IYSWIM ...baa

Alibabaandthe40nappies Tue 19-Feb-13 12:38:31

Probably not this year, but we will take them out for a week once we start going skiing in a couple of years.

mrsjay Tue 19-Feb-13 12:39:13

I think a lot of people do do it though maybe not at your school but they do it, there was loads of kids when we went to Florida the other year ENglish kids too nowhere near their school holiday

insanityscratching Tue 19-Feb-13 12:45:01

I will, as I have done every year, dd's in year 5 and ds is in a specialist school y12. Next year I will avoid SATs week but I will take them out for a week or two. The following year I expect dd to be home schooled so no problem from then on in.

BeckyBrandon Tue 19-Feb-13 12:52:11

Will be doing it near Christmas, only for about 3 days.
