We have already eaten a tin of roses blush and the kids have a selection box in their sack.

But which chocolates do you absolutely always have to have at Christmas time? I am hoping someone gets us a tub of heroes smile

Hohohowhatfuckeryitis Sun 15-Dec-13 08:47:12

After eights. Now about breakfast....

Ticktock80 Sun 15-Dec-13 08:47:14

Ferrero rocher here!

RedPencils Sun 15-Dec-13 08:49:00

After eight mints. It's not Christmas without them.

Happypiglet Sun 15-Dec-13 08:49:48

Chocolate orange!

Altinkum Sun 15-Dec-13 08:50:35

No chocolates for me as I dislike the stuff!

But cheese, chutney, nuts and twigglets are a must have at Christmas.

Also Boxing Day must contain a turkey, cranberry and stuffing sandwich!

meditrina Sun 15-Dec-13 08:52:35

Quality Street, chocolate oranges, and mint matchmakers.

lookout Sun 15-Dec-13 08:52:45

We always had Quality Street growing up. But we finished a box last week blush and they weren't as nice as I think they should be! So watching with interest to see what everyone else thinks too. Pretty sure my boys would choose Celebrations but I'm not a fan.

DustyBaubles Sun 15-Dec-13 08:53:17

After Eights, Ferrero Rocher, Toffifee, Quality Street, liqueurs, chocolates with cherries in brandy from M&S, Elizabeth Shaw mints...

We eat a lot of crap chocolate at Christmas fgrin

DisneyAddict88 Sun 15-Dec-13 08:59:32

Ferrero rocher and some heroes or celebrations

I've eaten the thortons snowdog snowman shapes I bought for the girls stockings... although had to make sure they taste ok and now thinking the lollipop would be better for them anyway!!!

lovelyredwine Sun 15-Dec-13 09:00:49

Ferraro Rocher at home and quality street or roses at work. Always seems to be a tin on the go in the office!

MorrisZapp Sun 15-Dec-13 09:01:02

Bendicks mints

MummyPig24 Sun 15-Dec-13 09:03:48

Ooh ferrero rocher. Yum. I am not a fan of celebrations. Got to have a chocolate orange obviously. And seeing as I'm pregnant I think I have the best excuse to sample all the chocolates this year!

GeordieCherry Sun 15-Dec-13 09:05:49

Chocolate orange

Lindor dark for the advent calendar (my days)

Aldi milk chocolate coins for the advent calendar (his days) smile

raisah Sun 15-Dec-13 09:24:46

Ferrerro Rocher

meditrina Sun 15-Dec-13 09:41:05

I found some cherry brandy chocolate liqueurs in Poundland - I'm going to put them in DM's stocking. They really were redolent of Xmas past. But I'm wondering if they'll be horrid now?

WeAllHaveWings Sun 15-Dec-13 09:51:07

Used to be quality street up until last year when it seems to have changed.

Used to get thorntons coins but local shop shut.

Now Terry's choc orange, Lindt and lindor.

imtheonlyone Sun 15-Dec-13 09:59:38

We always treat ourselves at Christmas - we have a tub of celebrations or heroes to share with the kiddies and then after they're in bed we tuck into a selection box from Hotel Chocolat!!! Pure indulgence and only at Christmas!! grin

Cherrypi Sun 15-Dec-13 10:16:03

Can't believe no one has mentioned toblerone. Particularly the white one.

spottydottystripes Sun 15-Dec-13 10:20:01

As a kid, always After Eights - I haven't bought them since I started boycotting Nestlé, but I do miss them.

Still chocolate orange though - I still get a wrapped-up one from my aunty grin

Mignonette Sun 15-Dec-13 10:25:15

Has to be Quality Street giant tin (currently selling for £3,99 in Aldi), After Eights and a little posher, Rococo because the packaging is so gorgeous. The Violet, cinnamon and rose flavours are always in my stocking.

I always make Chocolate covered dates because Thorntons no longer sell them and my Grandparents always had them.

DH has Toblerone. He makes it last weeks therefore making New Year a torture for us greedier folks. His other choice is Australian liquorice which I am not so keen on. He wants a Nigella-style liquorice box.

MrsBennetsEldest Sun 15-Dec-13 10:31:51

Anton Berg liqueurs , Costco used to sell them in a 64 piece box, we had one each ( including DCs, teens). They have stopped selling them and I am gutted.
Chocolate Brazils.
After Eights
New Berry Fruits.

MummyPig24 Sun 15-Dec-13 11:20:39

I went into Hotel Chocolat last week and everything always looks so beautiful and delicious, but so expensive that I never buy anything.

Queenofknickers Sun 15-Dec-13 19:50:11

Marcelinewhyareyousomean Sun 15-Dec-13 19:51:51

Where do you buy violet and rose creams from please?

ZeViteVitchofCwismas Sun 15-Dec-13 19:52:59

Tin of quality street.
after eights
fruit marzpians

and some really fab quality chocs reduced from waitrose after the big day.

loathe thorntons chocs....mushy

pootlebug Sun 15-Dec-13 19:54:35

After eights to play the game where you balance one on your forehead and then have to eat it without using your hands.

And a chocolate orange. Each.

MeAndMySpoon Sun 15-Dec-13 19:54:45

Mint matchmakers, as many as possible. But Eeeeevil Nestle. :-( Luckily Aldi make 'em. :-D Those are for DH really. I would like some Benedicts Bittermints.

I'd also like some Terry's Neopolitans but the buggers stopped making them decades ago. :-(

Artandco Sun 15-Dec-13 19:59:40

Ps for anyone boycotting nestle, the m and s after eights are far nicer than the actual after eights, usually cheaper, and comes in dark/ milk or white choc

mrscynical Sun 15-Dec-13 20:02:59

Rose and violet creams are sold in Hotel Chocolat and Waitrose.

Bendicks Bittermints
Lindt Chocolate santa (in the stockings)
Divine chocolate coins (in the stockings)
Neuhaus Manon collection or maybe some Charbonnel et Walker marc de champagne truffles...
Probably a box of Thorntons Continental knocking about even though they are temple achingly sweet...

Oh and the odd clandestine chocolate orange, secreted at the back of the fridge and eaten cold, when no one is looking. Except they changed the recipe and they are always so disappointing.

And if I can find them, I adore Cote D'Or Bouchees (praline filled elephant things)

tshirtsuntan Sun 15-Dec-13 20:17:59

Ferrero rocher- ambassador you are really spoiling us grin

Frigintinsella Sun 15-Dec-13 20:21:15

There are so many...
Ferrero rochers
After eights
I could go on

CuntyBunty Sun 15-Dec-13 20:22:44

Ha, had to comment tshirtsuntan: one of DH's mates is going for the position of Ambassador next year and if he is successful, I cannot wait to send him a huge box of Ferrero Rocher grin. I bet he'll end up with 20 boxes.

lizzypuffs Sun 15-Dec-13 20:26:19

After eights

Marcelinewhyareyousomean Sun 15-Dec-13 21:10:46

thanks mrscynical. HdC it is. I will make sometimes Christmas.

Beastofburden Sun 15-Dec-13 21:17:03

Used to buy Charbonnel and Walker rose and violet creams. But hotel chocolat is better and fresher.

Much the cheapest way is to buy the little plastic taster boxes of six chocolates, if you get three or more they are cheaper. For some reason, exactly the same chocolates cost way more in the H-boxes. Weird.

As a child, quality street, but they have ruined them now, especially the purple Brazil nut ones. Cheap bastards. sad

Stockings must have jelly beans in them. Tis the law.

ChippyMinton Sun 15-Dec-13 21:18:25

Roses are good this year. Has anyone tried the Thorntons pudding / dessert box?

VivaLeBeaver Sun 15-Dec-13 21:18:54

Mingles. sad

ExitPursuedByAChristmasGrinch Sun 15-Dec-13 21:21:01

tombakerscarf Sun 15-Dec-13 21:40:28

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

lookout Sun 15-Dec-13 21:42:59

I am so pleased I'm not the only who's gone off Quality Street, they have changed them, haven't they? The violet and rose creams sounds amazing.

Beastofburden Sun 15-Dec-13 21:44:13

It may be retro but actually the daddy of all chocolate brasils is Paynes. Haven't had them for years though.

Foil wrapped coins. In a stocking.

And Marc de Champagne Truffles - the pink ones

Clandy Sun 15-Dec-13 23:37:33

Does nobody eat chocolate covered Turkish delight anymore?? I really fancy some. Cadburys did one but it wasn't fab. This is what I want this Christmas.

Obviously quality street, toblerone, after eights and a chocolate orange are compulsory!

TheRaniOfYawn Mon 16-Dec-13 02:38:41

Chocolate reindeer, Santa and coins in stocking

Bendicks bittermints

Aldi matchmakers

Mark de champagne truffled

Home-made peppermint bark with ganache filling.

callmekitten Mon 16-Dec-13 03:06:04

Chocolate coins
We also have a candy maker in town and we get a selection of favorites from them-truffles, nougats, toffee, chocolate covered nuts

tshirtsuntan Mon 16-Dec-13 14:05:13

bunty I hope he gets it, what does an ambassador actually do? grin you should stock up ready, tesco have endless different permutations of the nutty balls at the moment wink

ZeViteVitchofCwismas Mon 16-Dec-13 15:56:52

Have they really, reaLLY changed quality S?

Beastofburden Mon 16-Dec-13 16:03:34

They look the same. Except the box is a crappy plastic one and not the sound metal tin that then pops up, slightly rusty, with cake in it for years (nostalgic).

But they have done something to the chocolate. And the brasil nuts are a weedy shadow of their former self. Some pathetic sliver of nut sweepings instead of a proper big nut. And the green triangles are no longer right.

Damnautocorrect Mon 16-Dec-13 16:14:33

Yes yes to the quality street change, made my teeth hurt as there's too much sugar

Greentriangle82 Mon 16-Dec-13 21:51:55

Asda's own truffles £1 a box are lovely.
Roses, match makers, after eights

raisah Tue 17-Dec-13 05:30:30

MrsBennetsEldest - you can buy Anthon Berg chocolates from Amazon.

Try Waitrose aswell.

MrsBennetsEldest Tue 17-Dec-13 08:02:40

Thanks raisah, I have seen the small boxes but it's the giant ones I miss. I know, we are pigs.grin

clandy Thorntons do lovely chocolate covered Turkish delight, a large box for £6.99 or smaller bars for £1, love it!

Hessy Tue 17-Dec-13 20:35:55
