MayimBialik Mon 11-Nov-13 10:37:23

I have no idea what to get mine. He's 33. Loves movies, plays 5 a-side football, likes keeping fit and eating healthily, loves spending time with me and DS. Help!!

I have bought mine a whole pigs leg (ad ham) with the knife and a holder.

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams Mon 11-Nov-13 11:01:38

I got my dh a subscription to Total Film.magazine last year - would he like that?

We've only got a small budget each this year as he is 40 over Christmas. I'm getting him a Chinese puzzle box, ray mears book, Viking bookmark, small birdhouse, guitar picks and a Christmas jumper grin

Mrspaddy Mon 11-Nov-13 11:24:22

Jumper from gap, body shop toiletries and don't know what else yet. There is a comedy show he would like that I ould get tickets for.

MrsNormanBates Mon 11-Nov-13 11:25:53

Getting dh a nice leather folder for work and a designer belt.

MrsNormanBates Mon 11-Nov-13 11:27:11

mayim how about cinema tickets/gift card for the two if you? And a mug of his football team?

lucysmam Mon 11-Nov-13 11:27:22

Mine will be getting a Liverpool shirt, xbox headphone thingys, xbox controller thingy (can you tell I know loads about the xbox grin ) and the new Black ops or COD game or whatever it is (the latest one confused ). He has asked for them so makes shopping dead easy.

Then a stocking of bits and bobs..
socks and pants....bottle of bacardi...nice shirt....couple of gadgety bits and chocolate. May pop a toothbrush in too because he seems to use the same one forever, and some other bits and bobs too....I just don't know what yet!

Barbour travel bag (for gym stuff to take to work)
Private Eye Annual
Subscription to Decanter Magazine
Voucher for shave at posh barbers place in city.
Gareth Maline choirs CD
Terry 'a Chocolate Orange (Every year!)

Having baby Friday so am bit pleased with myself that got it all sorted. Just up to him to sort out family and kids now. Cue wicked laughter from me!!

fuzzpig Mon 11-Nov-13 11:44:05

Main presents are hobbit lego board game and a geeky t shirt, probably DVDs too

I'm struggling with mine too! Got a couple of DVDs but no idea what else to get him.

bakingaddict Mon 11-Nov-13 12:26:07

The new batman PS3 game and some DVD's. We are not buying each other much this year as there is nothing we particularly want but both hope to go to Westfield in the Jan sales for a bit of a splurge

Slainte Mon 11-Nov-13 12:37:06

A red Le Creuset cafetiere, some books, the Linkee game, Modern family box set and the new ska CD. I'm sure I've squirreled away something else that I can't remember now - will need to search through all my hiding places. grin

mootime Mon 11-Nov-13 12:42:43

For the first time I actually have a bit of cash of my own so I'm going to buy him a Sonos music system. Quite excited about it! He will be really pleased and surprised!

A food hamper
Posh face gunk
Star wars Lego
Star wars origami book
Clothes voucher
Probably a book and some daft stocking bits too

A ukulele - saw it suggested on here somewhere.

A couple of months ago, he bought himself a lock-picking set (amazon, I think) and has been twiddling away with it ever since! Would have made a good gift.

Damnautocorrect Mon 11-Nov-13 13:05:53

Can I suggest the weber BBQ course? It's brilliant
I'm stuck this year for mine though

Crutchlow35 Mon 11-Nov-13 13:11:55

I am getting DH a driving voucher thing. The beer club thing from the bargains threads and may be DVD. I think The Hangover 3 is out soon. May be that. I don't know!

LoreleisSecret Mon 11-Nov-13 16:34:50

Get him a fitbit!

ChristmasCareeristBitchNigel Mon 11-Nov-13 17:18:44

His bike needs an overhaul as it's been chucked in the garden and then a shed for 3 years which means he can't use it. Depending on how much it will cost I'm getting it repaired - which will be a complete surprise (which he hopefully will be pleased with !)

BuzzardBird Mon 11-Nov-13 17:22:23

I got DH a flight simulation session, thought it might help me too with my fear that the pilot on my holiday flight might be drunk or have a heart attack <too many films> grin

WorrySighWorrySigh Mon 11-Nov-13 17:32:06

Probably not helpful but..........

We stopped buying each other presents before we were married having bought each other near identical gifts.

I highly commend this approach. It is a lot less stressful and means that we can enjoy the shopping together rather than playing Secret Squirrels.

Kefybaby Wed 13-Nov-13 17:13:04

Crutchlow, which beer club is this? It sounds interesting.

Crutchlow35 Wed 13-Nov-13 17:46:30

Kefy, it is the beer52 thing on the main bargain christmas threads. I'd link but on the phone.

Kefybaby Wed 13-Nov-13 18:15:21

Many thanks, Crutchlow! Presumably the £10 off is for the first box?

MayimBialik Thu 14-Nov-13 16:00:59

Thanks for all the ideas - the fitbit sounds like a great idea for my DH. In fact I'd quite like one myself (this is usually a good basis for buying a present for him I feel!) wink

FoxMulder Thu 14-Nov-13 16:06:38

Nothing! If he wanted something I assume he would have bought it by now. Unless we can't afford it, in which case we still can't afford it smile

Davros Thu 14-Nov-13 16:15:18

How about a Nike Fuelband if he likes keeping fit? Lovely looking gadget

QueenofallIsee Thu 14-Nov-13 18:38:59

mine is gadget mad so is getting a ps4....*faints at expense*

574ejones Thu 14-Nov-13 19:16:43

I bought mine a remote control helicopter which can fly outside. Can't wait to give it a whirl.

cravingcake Thu 14-Nov-13 19:53:06

My DH will be getting something along the lines of this...

New shirt for work
New polo shirt/jumper for golf
Hairy Dieters cook book
Hand painted (by DS) picture frame for his desk
Novelty socks
Bottle of whiskey/booze
Maybe itunes voucher
And any little novelty gadgets i see while shopping

cravingcake Thu 14-Nov-13 19:55:13

Oh, and gloves that have that special stuff on the finger tips so you can still use your phone (cant remember the technical name for them).

KingRollo Thu 14-Nov-13 19:56:54

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

silkknickers Thu 14-Nov-13 19:59:59

I'm getting my chap a camping kitchen table.
ok, so maybe not the most romantic present in the world, but he has been muttering about getting one for months and it was reduced in the autumn sale grin

NoComet Thu 14-Nov-13 20:10:16

As a SAHM, he pays for his own present, so
It seems a bit daft.

Still he'll get clothes, booze and whatever bit of geek he fancies this year.

superbagpuss Thu 14-Nov-13 20:20:11

he arranged to go zombie killing with his friends

I have given him the money to go

neither romantic or a surprise

Where did the Lego Star Wars origami book come from please?

I've got dh some meal kits from The Spicery, mushroom ketchup, River Cottage booze book (volume 12 in the River Cottage series), a novelty apron, posh coffee and I'm going to get him espresso cups when I find ones he likes.

* I like

kateecass Thu 14-Nov-13 22:20:37

Star Wars origami

also got Star Wars Thumb doodles

Both arrived today and both look good. Think the origami was a better price when I got it.

Gorran Thu 14-Nov-13 22:27:26

Mine are a bit poncy tbh:
Freud cafetiere
Gant gloves
Nice slippers
'Lounge' bottoms from the White Co.
Socks and boxes for his stocking as well as shower gel, chocs, shaving stuff, book.

kateecass Thu 14-Nov-13 22:32:25

MrsNormanBates I was thinking about my DH a leather folder for work as he always has a million bits of papers and scribblings all over the place. Didn't know where to even start looking. Please can you tell me where you found yours.

Thanks katecass. I just got the thumb doodles one. Dh will love it!

Weeantwee Thu 14-Nov-13 22:47:21

I don't know what I'm going to get him for Xmas yet as his birthday is on Saturday so my best idea has gone for that. I've bought him a leather Fender strap for his Stratocaster and a guitar stand.

I did pick up a pack of comic strip plasters for his xmas stocking - he's always getting cuts and scratches at work smile

Flight simulation sounds awesome!

Slainte Sat 16-Nov-13 07:01:24

grin KingRollo

MegaClutterSlut Sat 16-Nov-13 09:43:39

I've bought DH 'Zombie-opoly'. It's obviously like monopoly but with zombie pieces etc which I know he's going to love grin

sooperdooper Sat 16-Nov-13 09:54:17

His main present is a download ticket, but I'm getting him a few bits and bobs to open

NorbertDentressangle Sat 16-Nov-13 09:59:10

Bike stuff no doubt - just waiting for the emails with links in to appear in my inbox as all these bits and bobs are alien to me!

Oh, and I've also bought him a vintage cycling top (the country it is from is significant to DP)

mariamerryweather Sat 16-Nov-13 10:17:46

A tennis racquet, and a couple of books, probably Letters of Note and Moneyball, which is about working out the odds in baseball or something.

WidowWadman Sat 16-Nov-13 10:26:31

but playing secret squirrels, dropping (false) hints and that is the whole fun of it. Pre-kids when we still did stockings for each other, there was always one identical thing there, once even we both made each other a Flying Spaghetti Monster tree decoration without knowing the other was making one, too.

I'm undecided yet what to get him this year, and as it's not entirely impossible he stumbles across this thread I can't post anyway.

Presents of years gone by which were well received include a raspberry pi, a bat detector, a better ukulele (i.e. not a cheapo kids' one), a limited print of an artist he really likes, and such things

DTisMYdoctor Sat 16-Nov-13 13:22:48

DH is getting tickets for a show (that is sold out and he thinks he missed the chance to get some), a wireless keyboard for his iPad, aftershave (a Christmas staple) and a jumper (another Christmas staple).

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit Sat 16-Nov-13 15:39:03

A gorgeous bike saddle from Brooks
A Raspberry Pi
A merino jumper from Finisterre

been a bit flash this year as I had a little bit of surprise money coming in so I spoilt everyone!

Sieveoooplay Sat 16-Nov-13 16:01:40

We only buy token gifts so I have got him a giant toblerone and the new John Grisham book.

Strawberryfieldsforever1 Sat 16-Nov-13 19:16:43

Not been shopping yet but planning on getting DH;

Berghaus waterproof trousers
Leather document wallet for work
Maglite torch
Mint Baileys
Pen knife if i can find a decent one

ginmakesitallok Sat 16-Nov-13 19:41:03

Norbert, where did you get the cycling top? I've already got dp some new running shoes, but a vintage cycle top would be perfect for him

Flossiechops Sat 16-Nov-13 19:42:40

I had a rather large and unexpected tax rebate so I'm buying him me an IMac. We don't usually buy expensive gifts but I have the money for once. He will be thrilled!

onetiredmummy Sat 16-Nov-13 19:51:45

I have got dp :

A new cycle racing waterproof jacket (to replace the old one that I've nicknamed The Plague Shroud as its so filthy ) £69.99

Cycling winter gloves £35.99

Cycling socks £12.99 per pair

A photo book of cyclocross which is his discipline with nice glossy pictures.

letsgotostonehenge Sat 16-Nov-13 19:54:34

a sense of humour wink

Gingersnap88 Sat 16-Nov-13 20:01:54

I'm getting mine a gadget which turns tapes into mp3s. DH is music mad.

He'd also like a ps4 or xbox1 but we are moving house so no wink

I've got him a minecraft hoodie, will get him some DC super friends from DD, a mug and some other small bits like socks / chocolates.

His bday is in Jan, I'll be taking him for dinner at The Shard.

I love buying presents...

Ps: I find Firebox and Iwantoneofthose to be great websites for man-buying!

NorbertDentressangle Sat 16-Nov-13 20:02:16

ginmakesitallok -the vintage cycling top was from ebay. There seem to be a few sellers that specialise in them.

There were some great hideous, garish 80s/90s ones that I was tempted to go for just to see his expression grin but I settled for something more tasteful and relevant!

Misty9 Sat 16-Nov-13 20:25:51

I'm getting mine a beer brewing kit from firebox. He's going to love it! smile will look into that beer52 thing now...

Gingersnap88 Sun 17-Nov-13 08:50:09

I thought Makey-Makey on Firebox looked too. It's a kit with wires etc and you use it to turn anything into an electrical current. Terrible description but you can use fruit and veg to type, or make music with. The videos are good grin

JetJungle Sun 17-Nov-13 10:49:03

My lucky dp will be getting:

Superdry shirt

Battlefield 4 for the PS4

A proper Roman coin

Star wars origami (thanks for the brilliant idea kateecass)

Those whiskey rock ice thingys

Mum2Fergus Sun 17-Nov-13 11:40:23

Nothing, money is tight so only DS will get anything from us this year.

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 17-Nov-13 14:38:13

Dr Dre executive headphones - am hoping he'll use these a lot at work/when working from home.

Molton Brown black pepper bodywash - buy this every year.

Dressing gown and slippers which he needs anyway.

I love the black pepper body wash but I ran out last night. sad

plastico Mon 18-Nov-13 08:49:59

gingersnap where did you find the minecraft hoodie, not for DH but for DS...

For DH
Jack Daniels and, ummm...???

MILLYMOLLYMANDYMAX Mon 18-Nov-13 08:58:43

Mine gets a Toblerone and a silk designer tie I have picked up from EBay for 99p

FakeAngel Mon 18-Nov-13 10:32:40

16 year old single malt which I shall enjoy too

Selection of real ales

Books (Morrissey autobiography, history books, George Orwell biography, North Korea stuff)

Framed original 1890s drawing of the (long demolished) street his ancestors lived on (he's fascinated by his family history)

French Revolution-era coin

Hotel Chocolat chocs

...and I'll probably pick him up a few more little things.

fuzzpig Mon 18-Nov-13 11:00:21

That makey makey thing looks amazing! Might do that for DH's birthday in January.

MyPegsAreFab Mon 18-Nov-13 14:14:08

Gingersnap thanks for posting details of those websites - they are great!

A sex toy and a ham. Not for use together tho.

We have two young kids and six life is a bit sporadic so I am making up for it with a nice surprise! Plus he loves roast ham more than life itself so have ordered a huge one from the butchers just for him!

Blatherskite Mon 18-Nov-13 16:10:21

Gingersnap88 Every year I struggle for DH, most years I end up getting him very little as there's nothing he wants. I've just ordered him the Makey-Makey and I think he's going to love it! Thank you

ALittleMisssRed Mon 18-Nov-13 16:13:04

I wonder which gift he will be more excited about Purple!

Stevie77 Mon 18-Nov-13 16:24:01

- Cool retro trainers we saw while on holiday, only prob is return policy. Have yet to figure out a way around that.

- Cufflinks off Etsy or Notonthehighstreet. Wanted engraved initial ones but can't find any I like yet

- Jumper from Gap or Banana Republic as he whinges about having none (fretting over this as I never buy him clothes)

- a recent Stephen King book, possibly 11/22/63

- A photojournalism book he spied on holiday

I'm such an ace wife!

He'll say he didn't know what to get me so got nothing and will get me whatever I like, just name it, which ruins the fun. He's good otherwise, just rubbish at buying presents grin

iheartdusty Mon 18-Nov-13 17:39:50

and there's an early birthday to do as well.

So far:

a mug
2 books off his amazon list
tickets for a gig, but he goes to gigs most weeks and will have already seen everything on offer, and I fear he will not be very excited at all about this one which may be a bit of a novelty act tbh.

He is great at present buying, which makes it worse (or perhaps I am easy to please? wink)

he loves music but doesn't play any instruments and just downloads everything he wants.
doesn't want gadgets for the sake of it, and had a new phone quite recently.
gets loads of books from the library.
is not interested in food, clothes or accessories.
likes photography but doesn't want any kit or courses.
spends most of his time trying to declutter and remove things from our house that he thinks we probably don't need any more, while I go round behind him putting them back.

Hmm probably the ham! grin

StuckOnARollercoaster Mon 18-Nov-13 19:46:40

Mine is a lucky guy this year - tickets for next years British Moto GP.
Plus we discovered a Johnny cash CD in the car we bought and love it. It's disc 2 of some kind of greatest hits so I might try to find disc 1!

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis Mon 18-Nov-13 19:50:51

I bought him the Les Miserables DVD - he doesn't know.

we are buying the Fraiser box set as a joint present.

he wants nothing and I find it hard to mind read.

MinesAPintOfTea Mon 18-Nov-13 20:34:10

A two player board game
A box set (maybe west wing)
Lindt chocolates

FedupofTurkey Mon 18-Nov-13 21:57:47

Marking my place for ideas

evelynj Tue 19-Nov-13 16:29:25

I've ordered the beer52 thing too-my dh wants to start his own microbrewery, (hhmmmm...)

A doodle book, the iPhone micro lens kit from the Christmas bargain thread. Some Christmas loungey pants for Christmas day. May order some spicery things. Home made vouchers (shirt ironing, foot rub, chippy tea etc). The best present I give him is buying all his family's presents!

bimbedybam Tue 19-Nov-13 22:34:55

Can anyone suggest a good dvd for dh...fast paced (has low attention span!), action packed, formula 1 geek? I am crap at films..but need a stocking filler.

Showed a liking for Rush (F1) and Gravity earlier this year (not out on dvd yet) but we somehow never got 'round to our date nights, due to dc...hmm

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis Tue 19-Nov-13 22:43:00

Fuck only knows. He is on first name terms with the postie as he gets so much from bastard Amazon, so cds and dvds and books are out. Renew his subscription to Sight and Sound-nothing so common as Total Film or Empire for this boy(child) Last year we had a romantic few days away ruined by cunting birdwatching

Got my dh a beerbods subscription last year which he loved - am struggling to match it this year!

2kidsintow Tue 19-Nov-13 23:03:16

I shall be getting DH

A bah humbug tee shirt (play.com)
Box of biscuits.
Bottles of different ciders
A book

I may crumble and get him something expensive. He's desperately in need of a new laptop/netbook.

bimbedybam Wed 20-Nov-13 00:01:20

grin ohwhatetc

man(child) is indeed the word...Jackass stunts his forte! Maybe something to do with the fact that he is/was a "crazy" drummer!

btw, I have a very funny but informative bird-watching book by Julian Barnes...also "Fly-fishing by J R Hartley" (yes it really exists despite the sodding endless Yellow Pages advert)...bought for its bookspine kudos!

Turniphead1 Wed 20-Nov-13 00:12:29

Marking my place!

milk Wed 20-Nov-13 08:41:38

mylittlesunshine Wed 20-Nov-13 11:16:36

Ooh will be watching closely for ideas...struggling more than ever this year as he seems to have everything!

It's a big birthday 3 days before Christmas so I'm really worrying...

So far I know I will be getting him

Some nice shaving stuff
Slipper boots
Bottle of something

Then I am stuck, last year I got him an iPod & docking station, the year before an iPad can't think of anything special this year though and he gives me no clues at all.

mrsyattering Wed 20-Nov-13 12:09:23

I've got mine the Booker prize shortlisted books (book people offer from Christmas thread) a friend has made me a beautiful skean dugh, a music/cartoon quiz book, a cd and a Christmas jumper

evelynj Wed 20-Nov-13 21:03:12

Mylittlesunshine-iPad, iPod, how about an I-ron this year? ;)

Booker shortlist is a great present for readers-I got it one year when I broke my ankle & loved it!

Taffeta Wed 20-Nov-13 21:50:22

A top from FatFace
Some chocolate

NeonGolden Thu 21-Nov-13 02:16:45

I am getting my DP new headphones, the cheapest iTunes voucher, some mini bottles of whisky (really wanted to get him the whisky advent calendar which is AMAZING but unfortunately far out of my price range), some blank cd's (he loves making mix cd's) + cd markers, a few bottles of his favourite Beers, some homemade vouchers (favourite meal/bj etc, ahem), i might get him a good 2 player boardgame (also for me) and maaayyybe a ticket for a concert we both want to go to. Oh and some fancy chocolates smile If I read all that back I think I might be going a little over board, I also wanted to get him some Paul Smith fragrance but I think he is lucky enough already!

I doubt I will get that much from him but I really dont mind, I am getting a little Christmas gift crazy though...

NeonGolden Thu 21-Nov-13 02:26:20

I am also so excited because I have always LOVED Christmas but my family really doesnt do much (or at all - we only had a Christmas tree till I was 10 sad ) and we've been living together for a while now, and I would like for us tot start our own traditions. He agreed to shell out 25£ for his own Christmas stocking (which is gorgeous) to humour me, as we dont even have that tradition in Belgium smile sorry for waffling on!

MistressDeeCee Thu 21-Nov-13 03:46:34

Muhammed Ali autobiography
CK One
Next Voucher

A cisco watch and some marvel vans

DumSpiroSpero Thu 21-Nov-13 16:03:25

I usually get him tickets for something but am on a slightly tighter budget than usual this year so not 100% sure yet.

I'm hoping to finish a cross stitch of Bugs Bunny for him which was supposed to be a wedding present 10 years ago.

In the highly likely event that I don't manage it grin and depending on finances I may get him a new bike saddle - his has been taped together for ages!

bimbedybam Fri 22-Nov-13 21:05:56

A penis beaker cup??

<sorry, is that joke wearing a bit thin now>

notablob Fri 22-Nov-13 21:14:08

Ferrero Rocher

Nice belt

Posh sugar

Lush Dream Cream

Fish eye lens for iPhone

Hmm, not that exciting when I read it back. He's ridiculously hard to buy for. If he wants something he's already bought it.

MrsPnut Fri 22-Nov-13 21:16:45

I've bought mine
A new computer (so he can stop fiddling with mine)
A gilet
A ben Sherman shirt
A couple of dvd's
A wash bag
And a tub of sweets.

Areyoumymummysnet Fri 22-Nov-13 21:51:44

If he shaves off that foul 'tache he might get a bj. wink or a toblerone.
