I know there is a specific date on which it usually arrives, but can't remember what it is!

yabbadabba Thu 05-Sep-13 19:09:40

Im sure it's the end of this month.

TwentiethCenturyGirl Thu 05-Sep-13 19:11:02

I was wondering the exact same thing.

Marking my place and waiting for the poncetastic one to enlighten us all!

DSJamesHathaway Thu 05-Sep-13 19:53:43

Oooh, this sounds interesting if it's so eagerly awaited. What's the poncetastic Christmas thread about?

BeaWheesht Thu 05-Sep-13 20:24:42

It's usually on 24th September I think. I know because its dd's birthday smile

Usually the last Sunday in sept...yay smile

DSJamesHathaway Thu 05-Sep-13 21:08:14

but what is it??

nickdrakeslovechild Thu 05-Sep-13 22:16:09

Great minds think alike, I was wondering the same tonight.

DearPrudence Thu 05-Sep-13 22:21:11

I think it's 24th or 25th September - 3 months to Christmas Eve/Day.

DearPrudence Thu 05-Sep-13 22:22:19

Sorry James - it's a thread about having a poncetastic Christmas grin

Zeeky Thu 05-Sep-13 22:23:47

Here's the link to the 2010 one - can't find last year's one!

VoldemortsNipple Thu 05-Sep-13 22:54:16

Last year we had a build up thread started like this one, where we all got excited and counted down the days to the actual thread. I don't know if I shall try so hard this year after the flu wiped out all my hard earned plans. It literally took all my effort to get out of bed and dd ended up eating pot noodle for Christmas dinner blush sad

HazeltheMcWitch Thu 05-Sep-13 22:56:26

I had grand poncey plans last year, but I ended up being a non-ponce.
I hardly ponced at all.

I bought the Sarah Raven book, and that appeared to be the peak of my 2012 poncery.

This should be a bumper year due to all the berries and fruity stuff around. Maybe I'll go blackberrying this weekend, and get ready for berry vodka?

grin grin grin

Ya mo be there.
Bring it onnnnn . I love a Poncetastic Christmas.

My DH was judgey at me buying some butter knives.
To think I bred with this man hmm

VoldemortsNipple Thu 05-Sep-13 23:28:59

Oh yes the Sarah Raven book. That book would have made me lose the will to pounce if I had opened it more than once. Who knew people made plans for floral arrangements at Christmas, more tan picking up a posh bouquet at Asda grin

worm77daisy Fri 06-Sep-13 04:00:41

Last majorly ponced in 2010, when we last hosted. It is our turn again this year so preparing myself for serious poncery!

girlywhirly Fri 06-Sep-13 09:00:39

Yes, it won't be long before we all embrace our inner domestic goddess, and try to out-do ourselves from the last time!

In short, cooking and entertaining like our favourite chefs, decorating our homes as in those posh interiors magazines, handcrafting beautiful things, and making all our family/friends/neighbours green with envy. Sadly none of the above are compatible with illness.

IsaacCox Fri 06-Sep-13 09:19:35

Yay, I love the poncetastic threads! grin I did loads last year and said I wasn't going to do any this year, but whaddya know, here I am! grin Bring it on!

Morgause Fri 06-Sep-13 09:22:46

I shall observe from a distance. DH does all the Christmas cooking due to a desire for it to be edible.

OctoberMoon Fri 06-Sep-13 10:40:25

Cannot wait to ponce.

I moved house on 22nd December last year (yes, i'm that mental) so didn't have a chance to reach my full poncing potential. This year is my year...

Rubybrazilianwax Sat 07-Sep-13 10:04:49

I'm looking forward to ponceing and have begun already by gathering a big bag of pinecones this week [smug]

CatAmongThePigeons Sat 07-Sep-13 14:55:30

I fancy poncing my way to Christmas, we are hosting this year so I really want to be poncetastic. grin

WantAnOrange Sat 07-Sep-13 15:51:21

Oh good, I'm watching Arthur Christmas right now and was starting to worry I'd gone slightly mad thinking about Christmas already...

to be fair it was DS's idea to watch it.

Rubybrazilianwax Sat 07-Sep-13 17:48:53

Did you all see the thread on Christmas pinterest boards? here it should give you all plenty of poncetastic inspiration

IsaacCox Thu 12-Sep-13 18:29:16

I'm just bumping this because I want to get excited for poncing! grin

I've decided what my handmade Christmas cards are going to be like today smile

I was thinking of Poncey puds yesterday (not for Christmas Day, it never gets eaten) but tiny individual ones and have 3 on a plate each (oooh very Come Dine With Me)

Banoffi Pie
Trifle
Apple Crumble with Sainsburys Taste the Difference custard
Ice-cream Sundae
Sticky Toffee Puddings

They'd have to be done in the lead up to Christmas and served in mini dishes.......mmmm smile

IsaacCox Thu 12-Sep-13 19:09:16

Mmm they sound delicious 70. Damn diet grin

WaitingForMe Thu 12-Sep-13 22:10:00

I was guilty of starting the countdown thread last year! I've been quietly pre-poncing for a few weeks. A little raspberry vodka here, a little mincemeat there. Defrosting the freezer and a deep decluttering. Gifts started including an advent calendar for my mum.

Nothing major you understand. Just laying the groundwork wink

25th of September I think, exactly 3 months before the day!

JustBecauseICan Fri 13-Sep-13 13:26:33

Marking my place with this year's user name.

<squeals a leedle bit at idea of poncing>

cheekycherryza Fri 13-Sep-13 16:09:23

I'm so glad it's not just me who has been thinking about Christmas!

I've planned out my Christmas menues (using my stash of christmas mags from previous years) with shopping list so I can buy bits every week until Christmas, gift lists written out, bought most of DD's gifts and stocking stuffers, planned my baking and handmade gift giving. Blackberry and apple jam made and ready to have festive labels and pretty ribbons to go in hampers. Got a few swaps planned on facebook for other gifts too.

Going to start planning soon for our first Northpole breakfast or Elf breakfast not sure what to call it yet but it's going to be the party that marks the arrival of our Elf on the shelf.

I did quite a bit of crafting last year and haven't given a huge amount of thought to crafting this year. What's everyone else doing?

We are at my parents this year so was worried about not poncing BUT we are having Xmas at home with the in laws before we go so I can begin.

I bought nigella's Xmas book in the summer so need to have a look for ideas

70 loving your 3 pud idea

WaitingForMe Sat 14-Sep-13 09:12:51

I think a trio of poncy puds is a fabulous idea but I'll need to explore cooking containers a I've made individual Christmas pudding before and they were pretty generous. Couldn't do 3 puds that size!

cheekycherryza Sat 14-Sep-13 09:17:29

Oooh love Nigella's Christmas book! It's the absolute best!

JustBecauseICan Sat 14-Sep-13 10:31:38

Absolutely the best Christmas book! I get Nigella and Delia down from the top shelf grin around the time the Poncetastic thread starts and dp hangs his head in his hands.

just don't make the weirdy chocolate fruit cake

cheekycherryza Sun 15-Sep-13 16:57:11

only 100 days until Christmas!!!

cheekycherryza Sun 15-Sep-13 17:09:54

JustBecauseIcan I know right! DH gives me filthy looks when I get out my stash of christmassy mags and Nigellas book.

I did look at that choc fruit cake dubiously. want to try the coca cola ham tho

OwlBeThereForYou Mon 16-Sep-13 15:05:45

I'm so glad I'm not the only one grin Really looking forward to this Christmas, we should be moving at the end of October so I really want to be extra poncey in our own house! Already started collecting blackberries for vodka, and eyeing up the local holly 'patch'. Not found any pine cones yet tho hmm

MooseyMoo Mon 16-Sep-13 15:35:28

I have bags of pine cones. I just have no idea what to do with them them all confused

BankerMommy2010 Mon 16-Sep-13 23:04:01

What dies poncetastic mean?

BankerMommy2010 Mon 16-Sep-13 23:04:28

*does

sybilfaulty Mon 16-Sep-13 23:04:42

Marking place.

bymoonlight Mon 16-Sep-13 23:12:19

.

Banker if something is so poncey the term poncey seems inadequate then it could be called poncetastic. Think homemade drinks brewed from handpicked ingredients, drying bits of orange to craft a table centre, that sort of thing. It's really just a tongue in cheek way of taking the puss out of our own enthusiasm for christmas.

cheekycherryza Tue 17-Sep-13 07:38:20

70isaLimitNotaTarget I got sick of miserable trifles last year and did a Tiramisu (decaf) for christmas pudding with homemade mince pies for anyone who wanted and it went down so well.

DH has asked if I can make a south african pudding called a fridge tart. it's basically crushed up coconut biscuits mixed with butter and pressed into the bottom of a dish then chilled to make a crust. Then topped with Carnation Caramel, then topped with whipped cream layer then crushed peppermint aero on top with big fat cherries. It's gorgeous!

I'm also doing a pecan pie cos it has nice crunch. We don't really like Christmas pudding (for shame!)

IsaacCox Tue 17-Sep-13 08:09:18

cheeky that fridge tart sounds amazing drools

MrsHoratioNelson Tue 17-Sep-13 08:13:44

Fellatio where aaaaaaare youuuuuu?

I am relying on you all for vicarious poncery this year because I am not hosting and I will have a newborn. I can't decide if I am relieved or disappointed about this. DC will be too little to stir the Christmas pudding but not too little to be dressed as one

Trigglesx Tue 17-Sep-13 14:02:52

Marking place as well. Can't wait.

Awks Tue 17-Sep-13 19:48:29

Talking of this thread, I tidied the garage today and found the rotten hydraengea heads I had stuck in a bucket of glycerin this time last year and forgotten about The wreath didn't happen, obviously.

OwlBeThereForYou Wed 18-Sep-13 16:04:13

Haha Awks I think I remember that convo about hydrangea wreaths! Sounded lovely at the time, think I'll stick to pine ones tho or I will definitely end up with rotten flowers...doubt I'd remember to treat them so they'd rot in the house lol!

Bumping, surely is the poncetastic tomorrow? Have not noted Fellatio about?
