The one after Robotgate, away in a manger it’s the 4th Christmassy bargain thread

Reastie Sat 24-Aug-13 16:04:37

Away in a manger is a nod to girlwiththeyellowhats - we await a live birth thread on here wink no pressure to call your DC Holly or Noel

I can’t believe we are on the fourth thread already I blame robotgate for using up the last thread wink . Please forgive the fact that so many sale and amazon products aren’t individually linked or are linked but price may since change by the time you click on it - so many of them are out of stock and amazon seem to change prices on an almost hourly basis (it feels like) on a number of items that were previously linked to. As usual please tell me if any of these links/codes don’t work or if there’s anything particularly you want to be in the next OP (assuming there is another wink ) how would I do any shopping without you now

thanks for all your help in helping my christmas shopping in 2013 be once again bargainous grin

Please could someone tell me the difference between Lego, Mega Blocks and fake Lego? I have some big mega blocks, but I believe they do little ones too. I am guessing none of these are compatible with each other so should I just bite the bullet and get Lego?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards Sat 24-Aug-13 18:52:38

Lego is much better made than Megabloks - our MegaBlocks never really stayed together. It is also more expensive, though!

Theonlyoneiknow Sat 24-Aug-13 18:56:06

Not sure if posted already but Sainsburys has all their craft stuff, notebooks, crayons, pencils, colouring pens, all half price

NigellaEllaElla Sat 24-Aug-13 18:58:45

Mega blocks is the big chunky stuff for toddlers. Lego is the stuff so small that the vacuum cleaner constantly sucks it up cause its left all over the bloody place!

Oreocrumbs Sat 24-Aug-13 19:30:12

BRIO my very first pram toy £4.19 when you use the BLUECROSS30 code at the works! Delivery is £2.99 though. Still if there is a baby to buy for it's a good deal

The lowest it has been on Amazon is £15.77 and the (supposed) RRP is £50

Oreocrumbs Sat 24-Aug-13 19:35:15

nuttybean Sat 24-Aug-13 19:45:37

wow these threads are moving fast!
i recently posted about the coloured bottles i spotted in dunelm mill for people who wanted nice ones for homemade vodka, today i saw some in home bargain, just as nice, 2 sizes, small 79p, large 99p.
also they had ben & holly books, one with a cd at 99p i think or less, lego & batman encloypida with the mini figure included at £2.99. would have got one but little eyes were around, roll on back to school so i can shop properly!
i did link to this the other day so you can see whats in your local store for clearence. i picked up about £100 worth of presents for under £50 the other day.

Frisky It is a standard warning from Quidco IME, they can stop the cash back, although I havent had it happen to me yet

Oreocrumbs Sat 24-Aug-13 20:06:46

Frisky, I get those warnings every now and then too. Certain retailers won't give cb if you use a code (other than those provided via quidco). Unless they have a huge cb which is rare, I always use any code I can.

A bird in the hand and all that!

But don't worry it's not on all of them, I still rack up a frankly shameful amount of cash back (dread to think what I've spent to earn that much!!)

Marking my Christmassy place!

I had cashback refused of the Book People because of using a voucher code not recommended by Quidco last year.

Argos are doing £5 voucher on a £50 spend and £10 on £100. They also have Kindle Fires 16GB for £139 with a £20 gift voucher (t&c apply- there's small print but looks good).

TheOnlyPink Sat 24-Aug-13 20:59:00

I just tried using the Book People codes and it kept telling me that they couldnt apply those codes to my order. I am in Ireland, so wondering is that why? Has anyone else outside the UK used them? Or maybe they have expired?
Will prob just pay tho, cos even with delivery and no discount, they have fantastic prices!

Snowgirl1 Sat 24-Aug-13 21:06:38

Does anyone have a free delivery code for Baker Ross?

WaitMonkey Sat 24-Aug-13 21:35:50

ILove, I received my Christmas craft order yesterday [organized halo]. Got loads of stuff from BR, most of it in the sale. If you look on the website there's a 10% off code for certain toy items. Ordered a couple of stocking fillers, great price anyway, but even better with an extra 10% off.

Hoping some of you lovely bargain hunter ladies can help! DS has decides he would like Santa to bring him some papo figures. These are like schleich figures, there's the animals etc but the ones he wants are like mutant creatures- a mans body with a crocodile head etc...and they are £12.99 EACH and they really are not very big!! Does anyone know anywhere I could get them cheaper?

Oreocrumbs Sat 24-Aug-13 22:42:24

I've ordered some bits from studio. Did everyone else who has open a credit account? I didn't want to do that but was watching QI and not paying attention.

So when do I pay? They won't give me an account number until my goods are dispatched. Is this what you have to do with this company or have a cocked up and missed the pay by card bit?

JustBecauseICan Sat 24-Aug-13 22:44:41

Marking place. Thanks Reastie!

TheOnlyPink; I said on the other thread that the book people codes weren't working on my order either- I am wondering if there was a minimum spend- my book was only £9.99 and it def wouldn't give me the 25% Birthday code. Will wait until nearer Christmas when I imagine the book I am after (dd is mad about Rick Stein's India!) will be cut all over.

JustBecauseICan Sat 24-Aug-13 22:45:42

Oreo- I asked about studio on the other thread, I think IIRC that you can ring them up once you have received your stuff and pay off in one go. (I haven't done mine yet)

ValiumQueen Sat 24-Aug-13 22:49:31

The book people code birthday only works on sale items. The free postage should still work. No minimum as far as I know.

Snowgirl1 Sat 24-Aug-13 22:53:31

Oreo I think someone said on one of the previous threads that you have to set up an account with Studio (they're a traditional catalogue company which gives the option of paying in instalments) - but once they've delivered you get the option of paying by instalments OR can pay in full by card etc.

Henrietta I've never heard of Papo figures, but had I had a quick look on ebay and it looks like there are some on there for less than £12,99 this shark mutant is, but postage is £2.99 - but the seller might not charge for additional figures if you want to buy more than one.

Jojay Sat 24-Aug-13 22:53:39

Snowgirl1 Sat 24-Aug-13 22:55:48

Debenhams are doing a further 10% off the sale prices until 27 Aug (I think) - the website flashes up code PT97 to enter at checkout.

Oreocrumbs Sat 24-Aug-13 23:01:35

SunnyIntervals Sat 24-Aug-13 23:04:05

I'm a big fan of this thread, so thank you for starting another grin

So far I have bought from here:

The amazon £1.95 Charlie Cumming thriller which won Guardian best thriller in 2012 - A Foreign Country

Red subscription for SIL for £12

A big joblot of half price occitaine stuff including a gift set which will do for MIL, lovely exfoliating shower gel for my sis and a free man's shower gel for my DF. They have thrown in masses of free samples of lovely products (around 20). Can I tie these in a pretty ribbon and use as a sticking filler for DSis or would that just look really cheap??

olivo Sun 25-Aug-13 06:51:16

Oreo, I'm pretty sure I had a message from Studio to say that you could now pay via website. I am like you, didn't really want an account but couldn't resist the bargains. Now just have to remember to pay it off!

Reastie Sun 25-Aug-13 07:19:21

Elainey hopefully the OP should sum up the last thread so you don't need to trawl through it (but I haven't put everything up there so it depends how thorough you want to me with your bargain hunting grin )

Sunny I gave DM all the wad of free samples from l'occitaine as a little extra for her birthday present (but then....she got the l'occitaine gift I got the free stuff from so it made sense IYKWIM). I'd say as a little stocking filler it's fine though.

The toot toot launcher thing is cr**. The car goes about 2cm & doesn't reach the end of the short bit of track provided. Of course, we may have a dud one.

joymaker Sun 25-Aug-13 12:56:32

TheOnlyPink I'm in the Northern ireland and it applied both codes bit applied 25% off only to sale items and not other books that i had purchased HTH

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 13:17:15

what are these slushy cups? smile

Oreocrumbs Sun 25-Aug-13 13:33:16

Thanks for the startright info chocky, I'm taking DD to get measured next week, but think I'll just order them online after.

BuskersCat Sun 25-Aug-13 13:35:05

Remember as well join all your Facebook selling sites, I've just had a boxed DSi with manual, charger and carry case delivered to my door for £35 its in excellent condition too.

Really need to reign in my spending but this is the first year we've actually had enough money to treat Dd so going a little mental blush

LaTrucha Sun 25-Aug-13 13:41:24

Ah Restie. You are good to us!

Crutchlow35 Sun 25-Aug-13 13:42:07

Agreed, locitanne seems to have expired.

Slainte Sun 25-Aug-13 13:54:53

Amazon have a few men's colognes at good prices today, FCUK and Diesel, I haven't looked for any others.

Oreocrumbs Sun 25-Aug-13 14:07:32

I've just had a search and there are no live codes for L'Occitane. However unless you want them right now, there will be another set along very soon.

If they are for Christmas presents, then there will definitely be more in time.

If you need something now, you could look at the stock in Debenhams and use codes HX64 and SHEZ for 10% off and free del.

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 14:24:48

L'Occitane do a 30% off everything plus all the freebies usually around October time.

Sunny- I am "watching" loads of luscious NealsYard samples on ebay- which work out loads cheaper than the full bottles/jars. A couple of sellers are selling them in bulk so you get the amount you'd get in a pot but for a fraction of the price. So I reckon the L'Occitane ones would be lovely. (I'd love them anyway! I always order the Divine cream and serum samples as they cost £££££s in real life)

Those Latest In Beauty samples boxes are nice too- you always get a crapola Nivea men's shaving gel or some such in, but then some dead posh and quite decent sized samples. I got my Mum one last Christmas as a stocking filler and it had a wee pot of that Skin Truffle stuff that wins all the awards and costs ££££s.

Someone was asking about perfume samples- I have just bought fake similar to designer perfumes in wee bottles for £2.99 each. (attempting to further save money by buying cheap versions of posh stuff for myself) Some are a bit hit and miss (ie the Chanel 19 is nothing like, but the YSL Rive Gauche is spot on) perfume

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 14:27:15

The only live L'Occitane code I can find is for a shampoo and conditioner for £20 instead of £30 so not much really- though the haircare is fab.

NATURAL if anyone wants the code.

argos do indeed have 3 for 2 on selected toys. i have just got back from ours

sparklingstars Sun 25-Aug-13 15:27:43

good modelling clay £4.77 and free delivery - it weighs 1kg so worth the free delivery.

Same supplier has it in different shades of grey (oooh err) for the same price.

Just bought the modelling clay, thank you!

Jojay Sun 25-Aug-13 16:16:35

Modelling clay bought here too, think I might have had the last one. Thank you

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 16:20:23

Just been on eBay looking for beauty samples to make DD an advent calendar. There are loads and much cheaper than the Latest In Beauty sample boxes and a lot less hassle than signing up for free samples on line. I think I will make some for family members too. [Smile]

CoffeeOne Sun 25-Aug-13 16:21:43

Littlemousewithcloggson thanks for the tips!

I'm looking for a Hello Kitty scooter for dd (three wheeler) tesco have it for £15 currently (not available in the clubcard boost) does anyone know if I will be able to get it cheaper anywhen or should I buy it now?

sparklingstars Sun 25-Aug-13 16:33:37

attheend and jojay, you are most welcome.

If anybody sees any arts suppliers at bargain prices for a fine art student please could they shout out? Thanks.

sparklingstars Sun 25-Aug-13 16:34:47

The clay is now showing as in stock but a £4.88, I wonder if they had two left that they were selling at the old price and have now put it up - still free delivery though.

MooseyMoo Sun 25-Aug-13 17:06:13

spotty is it this scooter. It's apparently £7.50 in store

Yeah I saw that but my nearest proper tesco is 40 minutes away sad

spotty home and bargains have it but its 14.99. they have a ben and holly one for 9.99

and a fairy princess one for 9.99. i am looking for a boys three wheel one, no such luck!

Kveta Sun 25-Aug-13 17:13:39

so annoyed! I ordered the playmobil campervan the other day, and it was dispatched this morning - on the same day my grandmother gave DS his birthday present of, you've guessed it, a playmobil campervan!! So not sure what to do now!

I need to start looking for gifts for my siblings and parents now though, and stop eyeballing stuff for the DCs!

Thanks super shedder on hello kitty though hmm hmm I've seen a spider man one somewhere can't remember where though

argos have got their rastamouse one reduced to around a tenner at the minute, tempted to go for that one

BuskersCat Sun 25-Aug-13 17:27:35

Right, Dd has lost the extra carriage to her My Little Pony train set. On amazon these are FIFTEEN POUNDS <faint> you can buy a new train set for £13!

Can you find me one cheaper?

IJustNeedANap Sun 25-Aug-13 17:35:15

Thanks cherry, ill have a look online and pick some toys up in 3 for 2 grin

I need to look for adults too now but DP is a nightmare hmm

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 17:38:30

VN have you just been typing in beauty samples into eBay search?? I'm at the in laws at the moment but I'm keen to start looking for advent calendar fillers. first year I'm going to do it this year although haven't decided how... thinking of 24 small stockings going up the stairs. I really want to avoid party bag fillers!!

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 17:40:28

spotty whereabouts are you?? I could have a look in tesco if you'll be near Winchester anytime soon?

Marking place. Got some good bargains from the last one grin

RhondaJean Sun 25-Aug-13 17:49:09

Complete aside - been looking at the charity eBay auction and Thr b*witched reunion tickets are currently sitting at a higher bid than the Lionel messi signed shirt shock

Thanks ilove I'm in West Sussex so a bit far. I could go and have a look but it probably won't save me much money once I've factored in petrol and whatever else I end up buying whilst I'm there wink I was wondering if it was a manager's deal that was listed on hotukdeals

I saw b*witched when I was 11 blushgrin

MooseyMoo Sun 25-Aug-13 17:54:20

spotty could you ring your store to see if they have that price?

Yes moosey might do that tomorrow good thinking smile

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 17:56:12

kveta- hold onto it and slap it onto ebay mid November?

I have just finished the Albelli photo book which only cost £3.95 postage with the welcome £15 off code GIFT if anyone is interested. Am sure it will be little, but a nice stocking filler for the grandparents.

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 18:29:52

thanks justbecause. is there an expiry date for that?

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 18:31:48

30th Sept I think. Looks to be 6x4 so not big, but at least is free! 24 pages.

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 18:32:26

The massive £75 photobook from photoworld that is only £23 expires next weekend though, so that is my task for this week!

CatAmongThePigeons Sun 25-Aug-13 18:33:34

Ooh Ive been looking for photobooks, thanks! flowers

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 18:35:35

sounds good. be nice to get some more photos before I do it. I did a huge photo book at the beginning of the year of last 4 years of when DD1 was born to DD3 last November. that was a Groupon deal of 100 pages... took ages so good luck with yours!

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 18:40:48

ilove yes, just type in samples, beauty samples or men's samples etc. Some are still a up off but there are some good bundles too. I'm trying to think of ways to display them. Small brown money envelopes tied in twine with a number stamped on would look good I think. I'm thinking of either placing them in a jar or on a plate and adding a chocolate coin to each envelope. Larger samples could be wrapped in brown paper. I think I'm coming over all poncetastic smile

YoureAllABunchOfBastards Sun 25-Aug-13 18:42:04

I can't get any codes other than free delivery to work on Debenhams. And I fancied a new bag. Never mind.

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 18:42:11

*That's supposed to say rip off... not up off

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 19:40:22

has anyone used any freebie websites to get free samples? I'm thinking it might be a good idea for advent calendar or stocking fillers.

JustBecause can you link to that photobook deal? I can't find it on their website.

TheOnlyPink Sun 25-Aug-13 20:18:51

Thanks to all for your help with the book people codes! thanks The free delivery code isnt valid for the republic of ireland sad
And I also found out that it expires on 3rd sept!

Livvylongpants Sun 25-Aug-13 20:34:46

Ladies, not technically a bargain, but what do you his do R.E present pile sizes, DD will be 2, DS 3 months and DSS nearly 13 at Christmas, DSS is getting an iPad so won't get much else other than stocking fillers (and 10 ton of gifts from mum and her side - only child) whereas DD and DS will be getting less spent on them but more stuff and I'm worried about DSS being upset that they seemingly will have more then him... And ideas :/

MooseyMoo Sun 25-Aug-13 20:45:25

Voldermort have you looked on pinterest for ideas for advent calendars?

I'm making gift tags this year using washi tape and Bakers Twine

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 20:45:28

On the homepage right up at the top there is the free £15 code GIFT for new customers. There are photobooks for all prices, but obv the £14.95 is the best one to go for with the free £15 code.

Postage is £3.95.

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 20:48:09

That's the other page with the mahoosive photobook. (Photoworld) Haven't done that one yet, so hopefully the code works.

TheOnlyPink Sun 25-Aug-13 20:49:28

Livvy at 13 I think he is old enough to understand about the cost. We had this last year with DS1(5) and his nintndo 3ds. Ds2 was only 1 and like your children got a much bigger pile but it cost less overall. We explained to him a good few times before santa came that its much harder to make a 3ds and the elves have to spend far more time making the 3ds and wouldnt have time to make much else for him, but the baby toys were all easy to fit together so he could get more.

You could just explain to DSS that the ipad is really expensive and that if he really wants it then there wont be much else under the tree, but the smallies will be getting what seems to be more, but they are just babies. I think he will understand and tbh doubt he will care, its not like they are similar ages and getting stuff he would like iykwim.

IJustNeedANap Sun 25-Aug-13 20:51:56

Personalised 7 in 1 wooden activity trunk Was 50 now 19.99

JustBecauseICan Sun 25-Aug-13 20:52:23

Livvy- definitely agree with Pink- at 13 he will understand that an ipad is worth a lot, so won't get so many little prezzies.

sameoldIggi Sun 25-Aug-13 20:57:57

To counterbalance this thread, have just spent a couple of hours putting stuff on gumtree to sell!

Thanks JustBecause

Livvylongpants Sun 25-Aug-13 20:58:26

Doesn't help he is a nightmare to buy for as doesn't seem to ever want anything that costs lets then £300 smile and it's his birthday on 10th of jan, he doesn't like clothes or books just electronic gadgets!!!

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 20:58:26

ilove I had a look at a few freeby websites yesterday. They seemed a lot of faffing around for very little return and a shit load of spam mail. Hence why I went to eBay.

Livvy I think at 13, your dss will understand the difference and won't mind too much, especially such an expensive present with big street cred. But what I do is place all the presents under the tree in one big pile and then pass them out so everybody has something to open. I speed up the delivery of one dc who has more presents. I will also bump out the presents by wrapping up things like favourite food and essentials like deodorant sets.

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 21:06:20

Mooseymoo I certainly have been looking on Pintrest and that bakers twine is exactly what I was talking about smile

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 21:11:24

VoldemortsNipple, thanks for that I think I'll give them a miss then!

98percentchocolate Sun 25-Aug-13 21:14:06

Livvy - my parents used to go to Primark/Penneys, poundland, etc to buy budget gifts and wrap them up to make the pile look bigger. Cost the same and looked the same that way!

98percentchocolate Sun 25-Aug-13 21:14:45

Thank you so much for starting the thread Reastie
thanks have some wine and cake!

Livvy you can get him an app voucher to go with his iPad and umm that's it I'm out of ideas wink I'm sure he will be too busy playing on it to be counting presents.

PoppyWearer Sun 25-Aug-13 21:19:35

That personalised activity trunk posted by IJustNeedANap looks gorgeous...and I can't think of any little ones to buy it for, grrr!

NOT in the "bargain" category, but might sort out that difficult/picky female in your life (or even yourself), is a Birchbox subscription. They send the recipient a box of toiletry/cosmetic sample sizes every month, for £10 a month, and you can buy a 3-month subscription or longer.

I want a subscription myself. grin

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 21:23:20

Yey... I have just won 18 beauty samples for a fiver smile

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 21:23:57

Thinking of buying a selection of these to somehow make advent calendars for my girls. Thought I could either attach via a peg or stick onto a large piece of card for each of them...

Anyone seen anything better?

IJustNeedANap Sun 25-Aug-13 21:39:03

Did someone post a code for Studio? I'm going to get te trunk for my DD and some Christmas cards but I thought there was a code but ant find it looking through

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 21:42:51

Just found this Harumika style studio set, which looks like it would make a nice present for girls who are growing out of toys but like crafty things.

ilove those bags look great. Dotcomgiftshop have some here but they are a bit pricey unless they go in offer of the week.

ratbagcatbag Sun 25-Aug-13 21:43:12

Can someone repost the book people code pretty please? I can't find them

I've accidentally added the signed messi shirt to my watch list, I think as its at nearly £400 already it will sail over what I'm prepared to bid.

WithConfidence Sun 25-Aug-13 21:46:03

Studio and Book people codes are in the OP. ^

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 21:48:09

Oh VoldemortsNipple they look good, but I imagine they will just get chucked in the bin afterwards... Have been thinking of getting a wooden advent calendar but I though maybe I could get a large piece of card, paint in Christmasy colours then glue the paper bags to it, write on the numbers and fill....

Or just attach to pegs and string!

IJustNeedANap Sun 25-Aug-13 21:52:29

12 Christmas cards Was 4.99 now 0.29

ValiumQueen Sun 25-Aug-13 21:55:00

ilove that would be an expensive way of doing it I think. It is just one bag in the listing I think. Seriously Pinterest has awesome ideas for advent calendars using stuff like toilet rolls and odd socks. I made my own out of little boxes from Wilkinsons.

Leilandri Sun 25-Aug-13 21:59:04

Thanks for the thread Reastie. Can't believe it's jumped to 8 pages since yesterday!
Thanks to milk for the vtech dino's and for the PM's smile Shall be getting Brok if still on offer on Thurs when DH gets paid!

VoldemortsNipple Sun 25-Aug-13 21:59:26

How old are the dcs ilove? Last year in work, (i work in a nursery) I made an advent calendar out of little socks. I got the children to put glitter over them and stick a circle of felt on which I wrote the numbers on. Then we hung them up on a piece of string. You could pick up some christmas design socks in Primark.

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 22:01:59

Valium, I think you get 12 bags so I'd need two sets per DD. I'm currently bidding for 24 men's aftershave samples too so might do one for DP too.

I did see the loo roll one....

IJustNeedANap Sun 25-Aug-13 22:05:36

I love this little chair buy my DD will be to small hmm Personalised chair was 29.99 now 11.99

iloveholidays Sun 25-Aug-13 22:07:00

IJustNeedANap Sun 25-Aug-13 22:07:24

Oo thank you WithConfidence blush

ValiumQueen Sun 25-Aug-13 22:38:46

Ilove grin for 12 that is pretty good. I did start an advent calendar thread a while back. I love them. We used to have a candle when we were small and we used to have to sit and watch it burn down to the line. We were meant to be thinking about Baby Jesus, but I used to wonder what would be in my stocking.

chirpchirp Sun 25-Aug-13 23:25:59

PoppyWearer Mon 26-Aug-13 09:51:10

Another Amazon one, I found out about this one on the Trunki thread just now!

Red Skoot suitcase. Half price on Amazon £19.99.

I've seen a little boy riding his, and it looks like it could double up as a toy and a little suitcase?

thanks nuttybean for the Argos store-specific clearance link. Just reserved some bargainous birthday presents for upcoming parties.

chimchar Mon 26-Aug-13 10:57:15

Does anyone have any Jojo maman bebe codes? Found the perfect kitchen but a little costly at £79.99!

Reastie Mon 26-Aug-13 12:28:21

Oh sorry reastie i must have missed that!

Iloveholidays slushy cups are a cup that u put into the freezer and you pour ANY chilled drink into it and squeeze making a slushy drink. My kids love them i was rather impressed too, their made by chill factor argos have them 3 for 2 at the moment xx

Theimpossiblegirl Mon 26-Aug-13 14:33:06

Last year people opened La Redoute accounts and got Converse with discount codes- worth a look.

Reastie Mon 26-Aug-13 14:47:18

bang it could be my fault. I think I put the jojo codes under 'mini micro scooter' rather than jojo itself <slaps wrists>. Only did that as remembered last year lots of people coming on asking for those scooters.

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 15:31:40

thanks for the converse links... will look later

Slainte Mon 26-Aug-13 16:33:45

RockySpeed Mon 26-Aug-13 18:03:54

MrsWilliams PLEASE help me! I must be being totally thick.... I keep trying to buy 3 slushy cups on the Argos website but don't understand how the 3 for 2 offer works. Whether I try to buy or reserve them they just come up full price. What am I doing wrong? confused

Livvylongpants Mon 26-Aug-13 18:11:00

Anyone know if any deals on balance bikes? Am after one for DDs second birthday in September

Livvy I think I saw one on zulily? Not sure though...

RhondaJean Mon 26-Aug-13 18:15:33

Rocky of you reserve I think the offer price only comes up when you go to pay in store.

PoppyWearer Mon 26-Aug-13 18:17:27

Livvy Kiddimoto sometimes do 50% off their balance bikes when you buy direct, but it's limited to certain models. Might be worth a google to see if there are any current codes? Brings a £120 bike down to £60 IIRC.

CatAmongThePigeons Mon 26-Aug-13 18:21:55

Does anyone know where I can get a lego advent calendar? I bought DS2 the Moshi mega bloks one but DS2 is lego mad and would love one

PoppyWearer Mon 26-Aug-13 18:34:48

I saw the new Lego calendars in the shops at Legoland so I guess they are only just out. Should be on Amazon, Toys R Us etc in due course.

Slainte Mon 26-Aug-13 18:43:19

Livvy some on amazon for £40, link here

Livvylongpants Mon 26-Aug-13 19:21:43

Thanks guys, had a look on amazon and this bike seems a good deal

Good reviews and seems more expensive everywhere else, I'm not keen on the wooden ones as DD can break almost anything smile

ValiumQueen Mon 26-Aug-13 19:27:22

Livvy the wooden ones are much better quality, and sell on well.

Livvylongpants Mon 26-Aug-13 19:37:15

Might start a thread on it and see what people say, have never seen any up close which doesn't help lol

DangerousMouse Mon 26-Aug-13 19:39:19

Can anyone recommend somewhere online to buy really nice christmas tree decorations? Maybe wooden or unusual styles.

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 19:42:13

Livvy the problem with wooden ones are they are quite heavy for the kids to move around.

jenniferalisonphillipasue Mon 26-Aug-13 19:46:15

Livvy - I would go for an Isla bikes one if you can. Great quality and retain their value.

Livvylongpants Mon 26-Aug-13 19:46:22

All the wooden ones seem to say from 36 months :S although DD is on 99th percentile for height so is very tall, I want something she can use straight away. Have started a seperate thread asking for advice so as not to clog up this one smile

vix206 Mon 26-Aug-13 19:48:17

DS has a wooden one and its much lighter than his friends that are made from metal. Would highly recommend he's had it since his 2nd birthday.

blondieminx Mon 26-Aug-13 19:51:20

Epic OP there Reastie thanks you are fab! I think I'm mostly there for DD now... Just the rest of it to do! grin

Glitter snow domes £3.99 Argos

Leilandri Mon 26-Aug-13 21:08:49

ilove DS1 had the personalised cutlery for his 1st Xmas. 3.5yrs later, the set still looks great. Have ordered a set for DS2 for this year smile

I would warn against the Baby's 1st Xmas bauble tho. DS1 had one, and it was porcelain, properly printed and lovely. DS2 recieved one and it is now plastic, with stickers to form the name, and really just tat not as good sad

Slainte Mon 26-Aug-13 21:09:07

Ben and Holly's Elf Tree Playset is reduced on Amazon from £35 to £13, reviews are mixed. Link is here.

24studio can be a hit and a miss really, I ordered that 7 in 1 trunk and sent it back, I'd seen better quality toys at a car boot sale sad shame CSS it was a great idea.
Also got a personalised ballet bag for DD and it was fab.

Oh Leilandri, I'd decided not to bother with the cutlery but now you've made me think I should!! smile I have 3 DDs... They will be 4.9, 2.9 and 13 months at Christmas so would probably get 3 sets. Would it be worth getting one for the 4.9 year old?

CSS? Because smile

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 21:21:17

When do you pay it off? Do you get a statement sent through or via email?

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest Mon 26-Aug-13 21:25:33

Would also like to add that Strider bikes are great balance bikes. Both boys have learnt to ride a two wheeler without stabilisers before the age of 4 (and ds2 at just 3!) having ridden it for a few months each. It is light and suitable from 18 months. Adjustable saddle and will resell shortly with ease. Not necessarily a bargain, but certainly a very good buy.

Kelly281 Mon 26-Aug-13 21:31:26
Mrswilliams87 Mon 26-Aug-13 21:31:56

Rockyspeed i think the 3 for 2 offer is only applied in store????? Im not 100% but i am going into argos tomorow so i will ask for you xxx

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 21:41:18

MrsWilliams, thanks for the explanation, I think I'm going to put them on my Christmas list!!!!! smile

toisa Mon 26-Aug-13 21:42:35

My studio stuff arrived and I paid the balance in full today. Done. I was wondering about their it decent quality? Is the luxury metallic roll wrap like foil or is it paper backed iyswim?

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 21:45:15

Toisa were you impressed with what you ordered? I'm still going through the sight, but have got personalised decorations, personalised aprons, personalised hello kitty jewellery box and lots of wrap, cards etc in my basket so far. Debating on the cutlery....

toisa Mon 26-Aug-13 21:55:53

Wouldn't say impressed, more 'happy enough'! I bought the long personalised pencil cases and personalised colouring pencils. The colouring pencils came loose in a jiffy bag, no plastic pocket / sleeve thing. But that's fine as I'm just adding them into the pencilcases. I also bought a personalised clock. Again, happy enough.

Leilandri Mon 26-Aug-13 21:56:23

ilove The cutlery is good. DS1 is 4.3 and still uses, and needs his. Adult cutlery is too big for him.

Oreocrumbs Mon 26-Aug-13 21:58:42

Amazon John Frieda sheer blonde/brunette travel kit £2.67.

starjules Mon 26-Aug-13 21:59:51

I always buy my Christmas paper and cards from studio and its fab quality. And last year got the huge personalised santa sack which was brilliant and the iron on tags are so cheap. (I luffe studio)

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 22:00:21

Thanks Toisa. I've decided to give the jewellery box a miss in case it's not great quality, plus its something I can suggest to a family member to buy.

Had put some socks in for DPs stocking but might give them a miss too... Spending far too much at the moment thanks to this thread smile

Then I can get the cutlery smile

Leilandri Mon 26-Aug-13 22:07:07

Finger puppet theatre for all those cheap-as-chips finger puppets! ;)

starjules Mon 26-Aug-13 22:09:47

ooh Kelly281, that canopy bed is gorgeous I really dont need it for my DD, but... I think it might be a bit small for her baby annabell? does anyone else have one?

Oreocrumbs Mon 26-Aug-13 22:18:26

I've bought it with baby Annabelle in mind, it says its suitable for 40cm dolls which I think Annabelle is! Might not be but it is very pretty. DD has the stroller in that design.

starjules Mon 26-Aug-13 22:22:11

Yes we have the stroller, I picked it up this time last year in sainsburys for £2.99!! Baby annabell is 42cm and this says upto 40cm. I have never sent anything back to amazon (if it wont fit) are they good with returns?

Slainte Mon 26-Aug-13 22:23:00

I think baby Annabel is 43cm, though I'm sure my DD could squash her in grin.

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 22:31:31

Studio order done... Think I seriously need to do a stocktake on what I've got for my girls... They are going to get spoilt!!!!! I tend to go overboard at Christmas and I can't resist a bargain!!!

Wrapping paper and cards bought.

Really need to think about other family members smile

iloveholidays Mon 26-Aug-13 22:32:05

When is an acceptable time to ask whether there is anything people particularly want? smile

AndHarry Mon 26-Aug-13 22:55:40

The Story of Christmas advent calendar with 25 mini story books that tell the Christmas story leading up to Christmas day. We hang them on the tree so the DC have to search for the right one each night to read before bed and then slot into position on the picture. It's £9.09 now.

Oreocrumbs Mon 26-Aug-13 23:05:53

Ah well, will have to prop baby Annabelle up at an angle! Amazon are good with returns so don't worry about having to send back.

ValiumQueen Mon 26-Aug-13 23:12:46

AndHarry I LOVE that! grin Thank you thanks

NigellaEllaElla Mon 26-Aug-13 23:32:18

AndHarry Just bought it, looks lovely. Thanks so much for the tip.

AndHarry That's a beautiful advent calendar thanks

iloveholidays Tue 27-Aug-13 07:02:20

AndHarry thanks for the link. I've ordered from calendar (click on buy new) and got it for £7.27

Think it will take a while to come through though but we have a few months smile

iloveholidays Tue 27-Aug-13 07:03:24

I meant to say I've ordered from Canada not ordered from calendar. smile

HairyPorter Tue 27-Aug-13 07:05:12

That is a beautiful calendar. I'm very tempted! Camelcamel says it has been as low as £6.5, so it may be one that's worth tracking...

iloveholidays Tue 27-Aug-13 07:09:27

Hairy, I looked at camelcamel but it was that low right after Christmas so I'm guessing it won't go down that far again at this time of year but you never know!!!

If you're happy to order from Canada it's only 7.27

buildingmycorestrength Tue 27-Aug-13 07:14:28

Leilandri someone bought that puppet theatre for my daughter when she was nearly 5 and it is brilliant! Absolutely gorgeous, such high quality and packs away in itself to take around places. Great link.

Rumours Tue 27-Aug-13 07:36:17

Thanks for the monsters university scooter link thanks

Chocolateteabag Tue 27-Aug-13 07:53:15

I have already started asking people to "get thinking" on presents which has made them all hmm
But my excuse is DS2 is due on Dec 16 and really won't want to have present stress on top of new baby stress.

When do we start looking at bargainous things we want - to shove in front of other noses?

Oreocrumbs Tue 27-Aug-13 08:13:43

I've asked too Chocolate. My DB won't know until nearer the time apparently hmm, and DM wants some glass coasters and a tumble drier!!

So erm, can we keep an eye out for those too!!

I havem decided not to ask anyone else.

going to argos today but its for something out of the clearance section, i assume i cant use 3 for 2 aswell?

jamtoast12 Tue 27-Aug-13 08:49:02

Are all toys 3 for 2? I've done pretend orders covering diff items online and it never inc one item free?

KinkyDorito Tue 27-Aug-13 08:55:51
Littlemousewithcloggson Tue 27-Aug-13 08:55:52

Jam, my Argos 3 for 2 never showed up online but worked when I picked up the 3 reserved items.

Amazon have a 7" allwinner tablet which is reduced to £39, fantastic price for a tablet. Got some excellent reviews but also some poor ones. Does anyone have it? Considering one each for the kids so I can get the iPad back! Can't afford to get an iPad for each of them yet so thought this might be ok for games etc . Opinions anyone? Can't post link so if someone else could would be grateful.

Oreocrumbs Tue 27-Aug-13 09:11:29

Lego Duplo creative cakes £10.00 Amazon.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards Tue 27-Aug-13 09:14:57

We got the TRex last year - it is fab. Well worth £25.

Oreocrumbs Tue 27-Aug-13 09:18:24

HUKD Amazon has price matched some of the WHSmith deals, in the link are links to the books, thought I would post for anyone who needs to buy a book to get free delivery, there are some good titles for around the £1.50 mark.

Slainte Tue 27-Aug-13 09:43:15

Thanks Oreo have ordered four books via that link. smile

Duplo cakes are back down to £10! here

Bugger, didn't see Oreo's post. Sorry to duplicate!

whoneedstosleep Tue 27-Aug-13 10:00:43

I have 2 of those books oreo posted and the shampoo set in my basket which is an add on item but still getting charged delivery as under £10.

Should the books not cancel that out?

Slainte Tue 27-Aug-13 10:04:02

No, I don't think they do cancel it out whoneeds though logic says it should.

whoneedstosleep Tue 27-Aug-13 10:06:21

Ah ok, will add a few more books in as still a bargain I think.

Littlemousewithcloggson Tue 27-Aug-13 10:07:23

Thanks for linking that sister x They have pink ones too am very tempted.
They are getting very spoilt thanks to all these bargains. Half price talking woody and buzz arrived today from the Disney store so that's their present from the mother in law sorted as well!

HenriettaPye Tue 27-Aug-13 10:09:32

Any bargains for an animal mad 3 and a half year old boy? smile

chirpchirp Tue 27-Aug-13 10:51:01

That was a tiny window for the duplo cakes Amazon! They're already back up to £19.79. Could they not leave it for a whole day! That was barely an hour.

Thanks for sharing, just need to be quicker off the mark!

TheOnlyPink Tue 27-Aug-13 11:08:28

Pink dolls moses basket for £9, says it fits 40cm dolls so might be good for baby annabelle!

KinkyDorito Tue 27-Aug-13 11:19:39

I think this is an excellent bargain for 3-5 year old boys. I got one for my nephews last year and they love it. Is massive and would do for a main pressie.

Might be good for yours Henrietta.

KinkyDorito Tue 27-Aug-13 11:20:48

As you can probably tell, I'm a fan of Imaginext. Lots of last years' line is cheap this year. They've brought out a new batcave, so the last model has dropped significantly in price too.

HenriettaPye Tue 27-Aug-13 11:50:31

Oh wow kinkydorito, that looks fantastic! Definitely the sort of thing I was looking smile

just went to Argos couldnt use the three for two on clearance toys. did get something one of the dc have wanted for ages for less than half price though so not all bad

IJustNeedANap Tue 27-Aug-13 12:56:49

Any ideas for adult men? I want to get DP a few bits in and my DDad something off DD

IJustNeedANap Tue 27-Aug-13 12:58:56
IJustNeedANap Tue 27-Aug-13 12:59:16

MooseyMoo Tue 27-Aug-13 13:38:27

I went shopping this morning and spotted a few things in The Entertainer. Peppa Pig Aquadoodle mini mats or Disney Princess reduced to £3.75

And picked up a couple of jigsaws (entertainer own brand) for £1. The jigsaws were pirates, farm, fairy, princess and mermaids. Thought these would be good for a rainy day box

chirpchirp Tue 27-Aug-13 13:45:32

Thanks very much. My 2 year old DS will be delighted. His to favourite things; bricks and cake! And thanks iloveholidays for the PM otherwise I would have missed it again!

Just bought a second lot of the cakes for dneice. I must get off this thread, I am spending far too much money!

iloveholidays Tue 27-Aug-13 13:56:15

Attheendoftheday, I know what you mean. My girls are going to get a lot of great gifts but I have a little feeling they might end up getting more items in the long run as I can't resist a bargain!!! smile

I refuse to pay full price for anything now smile

Theimpossiblegirl Tue 27-Aug-13 14:15:52

These threads are really inspiring. I hope there are still bargains about when I get paid as I've seen loads of good stuff but am skint from holidays and school stuff.
My wishlist includes the Slushy Cups, puppets & theatre and lots of jewelry from Amazon so far.
smile (Is it too early for a Santa smiley, really?)

Received my WHSmith, The Book People and Studio order today grin DP is off work though so I can't hide my shopping blush

cerealandtoast Tue 27-Aug-13 14:26:43

We had a great Christmas last year, thanks to following the bargains, and I have started this year's shopping too.

The Duplo cupcake set is perfect for my dd2, and I have also got some Lego Friends stuff (mentioned on a previous thread) for dd1.

I am on the hunt for good baby toys to suit a third child - obviously we already have loads of stuff! ds will be about 18 months at Christmas, so any ideas would be welcome smile

iloveholidays Tue 27-Aug-13 14:28:25

craigslittleangel Tue 27-Aug-13 14:51:04

Thank you. Just the perfect birthday present for a months time.

Regatta outlet have emailed me a free delivery code RO83PP with a 35 pound spend. Not fantastic but the stuff can be heavily discounted all ready so some good bargains maybe for out doorsy types.
