Big hits in our house has been skylanders (dd1 had to be dragged off the Wii), Furby and good old lego.

Disapointing items were the addictaball (should be called impossaball), its a pile of cr*p and a bit broke off after 5 minutes of trying to work it out, Hello Kitty cool cardz, probably as dd2 is a bit young for it so just chucked all the bits everywhere without reading the instructions.

Earlybird Tue 25-Dec-12 21:52:38

Big hit in our house is a large red barn, with animals to go inside.

www.amazon.co.uk/Schleich-42028-Barn/dp/B0012BQ622/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356472168&sr=8-1-fkmr2

I worried that dd might be too old for it, but it was on her list and she has played with it for much of the day.

Jojay Tue 25-Dec-12 21:57:24

Light saber, a watch, an 89p notebook and a new DS game have been hits with Ds1 - 6.

Ds2 - 4 - loves his light saber too, and has eaten a LOT of chocolate. Duplo untouched.

Dts, 17 months, like wind up toys and a hamster in a ball that runs off round the room ,and books with buttons to press. DTD not remotely interested in her first dolly grin

wangle99 Tue 25-Dec-12 22:01:50

DS 9 - loved his FurReal cookie (DH didn't want me to get it as said DS too old but obviously not! wink plus a puppies calendar in his stocking!! DS does love his animals.

DD 15 - loved her macbook (second hand just to clarify lol) have told her if she doesn't keep her GCSE studies up I'm taking it away - she's not quite sure whether I will or not so hopefully keep her on her toes.

For once nothing disappointing!

Doyouthinktheysaurus Tue 25-Dec-12 22:02:09

Nintendo 3ds xl (unsurprisingly) and kindle are the big hits along with zhu zhu pets from my mum!

The chocolate has gone down pretty well toowink DS1 (10) has a penchant for expensive chilli chocolate!

No misses really at the moment....they are 8 and 10 though, I've had plenty of years of getting it wrong to practice getting it right!

frasersmummy Tue 25-Dec-12 22:02:13

remote control helicopter for ds aged 7.. its been buzzing about all day

addictedtolatte Tue 25-Dec-12 22:03:28

Baby Annabel for my dd I loved it. The dd loved it too lol

AudrinaWhiteChristmasAdare Tue 25-Dec-12 22:03:31

DS liked his Kindle Fire and Scooter but one of his stocking presents was a packet of Angry Birds stickers from the newsagents and he hasn't let them out of his sight since early this morning. I have just had to prise them out of his sleepy grip confused

Have just ordered him a Sticker Album with his Amazon Voucher.

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved Tue 25-Dec-12 22:04:46

Ds (2.5yrs) loves his Woody doll & hungry hippos, & a baking set. All organic wooden sustainable toys have been ignored so far (drat!)

MegBusset Tue 25-Dec-12 22:06:21

Biggest hits with DSes (3 and 5):
Talking Dalek toys
Noisy rayguns
Trash Pack activity books
Monster Snap

Not touched yet: chocolate coins and selection boxes shock but then they have both been a bit under the weather, DS2 went to bed at 5.30pm after throwing up sad

memphis83 Tue 25-Dec-12 22:09:37

Ds 2.5 loves hs playmobil 123 zoo and farm and a Happyland Sherwood castle, also a bucket of cheap dinosaurs.
Miss seems to be a Mr Potato head.

elliepac Tue 25-Dec-12 22:09:58

Dd 4 - barbies, a cash register and some shiny stickersgrin.

DS 9 - tablet and the addictaball mentioned up thread as being a disappointmentgrin.

difficultpickle Tue 25-Dec-12 22:10:35

Big hit here was a stunt scooter. Also the biggest disappointment as try as I might I cannot assemble the sodding thing. Or rather I cannot get the handlebars to fit on to the base because the bloody sodding screw does not line up with the bloody sodding hole buried in the shaft of the handlebar stem. I have spent 6 hours, 6 sodding bloody hours and I cannot do it and don't know how to fix it or where to take it to be fixed. Halfords sell as similar one so I am going to see if they will take pity on me and take my cash to fix it. The most annoying thing is I could have paid an extra £10 to have it pre-assembled but I thought it would be easy angry and sad. At least ds has stopped crying now.

It doesn't help that it is a present from Father Christmas so difficult to send back to the supplier without ds being very suspicious.

We are feeling more than a little relieved that dd's main pressie was a hit.. The playmobil princess fantasy castle.. It took 3 hours to build last night and we were worried she might be a little young but it has been sooo loved grin she even had to dress as a princess to play with it (dd was three on Sunday and the Cinderella dress was the birthday success)

She is also now sleeping in the sledge from my parents, dragged her duvet and pillow down here and is snuggled up with teddy, we don't have the heart to move her lol

WhereMyMilk Tue 25-Dec-12 22:17:02

DD biggest hit, was a sewing basket full to the brim with all her own sewing kit/craft stuff

DS's very easy hit-light sabres and Luke skywalker outfits grin

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen Tue 25-Dec-12 22:21:30

Success - new phone for dd

Fail - after initially nearly being the days winner, I bought her a severed hand to practice nail art etc on. She painted one nail, fiddled with it, went to remove it and its stained it permanently

JollyOldChristmas Tue 25-Dec-12 22:24:22

20 month old loves the playmobil police things I got second hand - car, van, police station, helicopter, motorbike. Also two tractors from ELC that were bought by friends.

He is less impressed with the books but I'm sure he'll enjoy them when he's less excited about his new toys.

DS 3yo and DD 16 mo, hits have been duplo, keyboard, latches puzzle, toy dinosaurs, wooden alphabet blocks.
Ignored, maaany jigsaws.

SantasComingEarlyHisSackIsFull Tue 25-Dec-12 22:30:29

The Innotab 2 was a big hit, until DS2 dropped it and the screen cracked sad. It only was dropped from a 4 years old's holding hight onto the laminate wood floor. Would John Lewis exchange or am I taking the piss?

Sony midi system for DS1 (aged 9) was a big hit and a total surprise. He also liked his Lego Goldmine.

Hits - dd (5) mini operation game, barbie princess to popstar doll, small schleich animals, a random mini mermaid set, junior acoustic guitar, airhogs remote control car, hexbug hive

Miss - moxie girlz walking horse - the battery compartment is faulty so it doesn't work hmm DD took it quite well but this was the present she was most excited about. Also had to make up an elaborate story how I can take it back to Argos (who are out of stock of it hmm) despite it coming from Santa.

Hit - DD (4 months) The Snowman musical soft plush toy. She was quite entraced by it smile

DrSeuss Tue 25-Dec-12 22:32:56

The second hand Wii, priced at £45 for the box, controls and charger. The second hand Wii games at £5 each.

NorksAreTinselly Tue 25-Dec-12 22:33:10

Severed hand!
grin

armani Tue 25-Dec-12 22:53:36

Hits -
Ds has not put down his imaginext batcave and Gotham city jail.
Dd absolutely adores her iPod touch!
Dd2 loves her new pram and baby Annabelle.

Miss -
They haven't looked at their books from stockings or art bits, but am hoping they will come in handy tomorrow.
Dd got hello kitty aqua bead nail set from dgf. She was so excited by it, but its absolute junk sad doesn't work properly and not one nail has stuck on!

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen Tue 25-Dec-12 23:00:16

We've just ordered a 500 pack of false nails off eBay so she can stick on and start again!

She has a severed head already and it's great

I got the severed hand idea off someone on here, tis excellent.

VenusInfers Tue 25-Dec-12 23:13:08

Loving the clutching on to the Angry Bird stickers AdrinawhitechristmasAdare!

DS (3) has alternated between playing with his radio controlled car and his (2nd hand - thank you e-bay!) Tomy train set turntable. Every 15 minutes.

Less of a hit was the fact I got given not one, but THREE sodding sets of smellies. Have clearly arrived at that age a bit earlier than I was expecting.... envy

F0xyLady Tue 25-Dec-12 23:21:33

DD loves her Furby, her pop up castle tent and superhero costume.

DH loves his accordion and CDs

I like my dressing gown and ipod.

Misses:

Lego - although I'm sure she will play with it, but other toys overshadowed it today)

Nose and ear trimmer (DH) hmm

hits:
DD (3) We did pretty well with her as she is fairly easy to please...
Magnetic dress up dolls in a tin with different backgrounds has been very popular
She loves her Minnie Mouse Puzzle (it is driving me demented why did no one warn me about lenticular puzzles!!). Orchard Game of Spotty Dogs a hit. A book/Cd set of The Ants go Marching One by One, and a Julia Donaldson book set. Also loved tea set and stocking fillers of lip gloss, torch, Barbie DVD. (Not all of this was from us btw)
DS (8) ASD and Dev. Delay is a different kettle of fish. He got some skylander giants which he is really pleased with but he doesn't have the disk. 2 of them work on the normal skylanders but the other doesn't. He has yet to take plastic off Lego Heroica, and Hotwheels boxes. He hasn't opened any of the books to look at not even the Star Wars paper aeroplanes one. He did like his DVD in his stocking and the Angry Birds magic flannel in his stocking.

inchoccyheaven Wed 26-Dec-12 01:30:30

PS3 big hit with dc, have hardly seen them all day grin. Also flex lamps which are just like a long bendy stalk with a light on the end that they have wrapped around the bed posts as reading lights, and freeze dried space ice cream. Apparently tastes like candy floss.

Nothing else has had a look in really.

Tiggygirl Wed 26-Dec-12 09:16:17

Ds loves loves loves his matchattack ( ? Spelling ) book and cards from his big brother and hasn't let it leave his side since he got it .He is only 7 though ,and has wanted these since about September !

QueenFuri Wed 26-Dec-12 09:23:24

DS1 loves his angry bird set, moshi monsters and bike the rest is still waiting to be played with. Pig goes pop is a huge let down.

Ds2 loves his balance bike, george pig rocket and the dogs pig toy. the mike the night set has not gone down as well as i exexpected.

anothercuppaplease Wed 26-Dec-12 09:26:30

It's funny Addict-a-ball has been a huge hit with both DSs (5 and 7). They fight over it.

Party Pop cd and dvd a hit

Lego Ninjago motorbike took me an hour to put together on Christmas day and has remained untouched...

KeepCalmAndHaveAnotherMincePie Wed 26-Dec-12 09:27:26

The imaginext Batcave and Gotham city jail a huge hit here with DS (4), though the batmobile hasn't been played with much. He also loves his Octonauts Gup X.

No obvious misses yet - though we won't know until the initial excitement of the Batcave dies down and he plays with something else!!

MrsGeologist Wed 26-Dec-12 09:32:11

DS1 - the Gup-C. He opened it first, and no other present has really had a look in. Though this morning he has been playing with his telescope and binoculars.

DS2 - a big plastic car transporter. He spent about an hour, pushing it about, going 'brrrrrrrrrrrr.'

AnAirOfHopeInAManger Wed 26-Dec-12 09:34:24

Hits hulk and spiderman action figuars. Kiddy zoom camra

No misses

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo Wed 26-Dec-12 09:34:27

DD is 8.

Sequin Art wizard from her Godmother is already half completed. We have played table top air hockey, assembled the marble run, starting reading the first 'St Clare's' book, worn the dress, dressed the Build a Bears in their new outfits, written spy codes and she is currently practicing magic tricks with DH! Some of the chocolate may also have been consumed grin.

It's all been very successful which is great as have had to hold back her main present (Jessie J tickets for Feb concert which was postponed until next Nov shock angry last week). She's getting those for her birthday in September now, so not so long to wait.

LaTrucha Wed 26-Dec-12 09:35:59

Imaginext ocean ship - a hit with everyone in the family but was for DS age 2

Designafriend doll for DD. A toy she actually played with [faints with surprise]. Plus, when she saw it she excalimed, 'Oh thankyou! I got everything I wanted!' [faits with surprise at grateful 4yo!]

bumbez Wed 26-Dec-12 09:45:57

Dds 7 and 9 loved kindle fire, all in one hat scarf and glove set which looks like a panda and onesies.

Less impressed with socks, pants and bath bombs !

spababe Wed 26-Dec-12 11:15:40

Cravendale Epic straws a big hit. Also Skylanders for 10 yo and flashing lights T shirt to be worn at discos for 12 yo.

FarelyKnuts Wed 26-Dec-12 14:02:01

Not sure why Santa bothered with the rest really smile

Winner - science putty, i cant believe of all the things bought for my almost 8 year old daughter and tin of putty that was a few pound from argos is the thing she hasnt left alone

KindleMum Wed 26-Dec-12 14:27:43

Got Imaginext Castle for DS and lots of Lego and play food for DD and they both love both and have been sharing happily non-stop. DS said it was "awesome" and " the best Xmas ever." Awwww. I'm loving the way the toys merge - the Lego has formed a protective wall around the castle and the play food is inside the castle for a siege! And the lego fireman are tackling the castle dragon.

Only "disappointment" was the gift from MIL who, true to form, ignored my suggestion of a train set starter kit and decided to buy them random items of train track kit which don't actually form a set and, crucially, don't include a train! My eldest is pretty imaginative but train track that doesn't fit together and with no train - well, it's still in the box! I'll bulk it out with the necessary extras next birthday!

Afrodizzywonders Wed 26-Dec-12 14:31:29

2 year old DS loves his wooden train set here hasn't left it alone!

Guitargirl Wed 26-Dec-12 16:59:08

HITS - hexbugs and elevation set have been a big hit with my two, they have played with them for the last 3 hours non stop (aged 5 and 3). They like their bikes. DD loves her various Barbie colouring in and stencil sets and her furreal cat thing. DS has played non stop with a bendy bus from ELC and wenlock and mandeville cars.

MISSES - motor web spiderman still in his box, DS not shown much interest. A bit underwhelmed with the Wii so far and haven't asked to play with it today. Velcro dart set - darts don't stick.

Big hit - Vintage (really?? It's from 1994 does that make me an antique hmm ) Puppy in my Pocket Puppyville Hotel, I found a boxed one on eBay and around 100 puppies, I spent a few months collecting for her. They are made of lovely durable material.

Fail - Brightest bright white polyester dressing gown for me, material is designed to attract the dust of a thousand houses. I have 4 dogs hmm material is horrid to touch as well.

JollyOldChristmas Wed 26-Dec-12 18:28:03

Puffin , i have an excellent Markies 100% cotton one. If you're looking for a decent one I would recommend trying there smile

hit dolls highchair. playmobile pirate boat and island. smile

bluebump Wed 26-Dec-12 23:52:50

My DS (4) loved his Octonauts from Father Christmas and his skateboard from me (eek). From grandparents he loved the Playmobil school and this Wild West shooting game.

Ds aged 4 loves his batcave and Gotham city jail. Got him all of the action figures too. Loves them.

Also loves connect 4. Doesn't get the 4 bit and we only play to see who can get their counters in quicker!

Not so good jigsaws.

janeyjampot Thu 27-Dec-12 07:25:48

Big hit here has been Animal upon Animal, which is a game I'd never heard of until I saw it recommended on here. It's been great, even with grandparents and teenagers, which is a tricky combination at the best of times...

spababe Thu 27-Dec-12 08:31:52

DS's 12 and 10 had Game of Life App version that you play with your Ipad in the middle of the board. I played Game of Life as a child but this up to date version is just brilliant and we all spent 3 hours last night playing 2 games. The spinner is on the ipad and you move around the board as normal and collect money but your character also collects life tokens worth money on the ipad and there are funny videos eg when you graduate. You don't know whio has won until the end so there are no mid-way strops! It was brilliant!

PolkadotCircus Thu 27-Dec-12 10:27:16

Lego Monster Fighters-Ghost Train and Vampyre Castle
Sylvanian Families-Beechwood Hall and a pair of SF crutches!

Best thing ever for me was the Usborne book of Christmas Paper Things to Cut and Stick-gave it to my 3 Xmas Eve so I could clean and it kept them quiet all afternoon.Totally mess free and I got loads of lovely paper chains, hearts and angels to decorate the house with.Going to buy it again next year.

No misses,I either choose well or they'd easily pleased!

I'm loving my IPad-although I can't find the emoticon brackets.

bruffin Thu 27-Dec-12 10:44:53

My DD 15
silly little things like this travelcard wallet with a photo of her with her favorite youtubers

the lego Hogwarts Express i got from ebay. and the gourmet popcorn i got from selfridges

fuzzpig Sun 30-Dec-12 10:14:27

Just bumping this again as it'll be interesting to see if the lists change now a few more days have passed!

Biggest hit was the playmobil castle. Had it all set up (it was great fun for DH and I - both playmobil newbies - putting it together on Xmas eve with the Baileys flowing!) complete with knights in battle, their faces as they walked into the living room and saw it was absolute magic.

Other huge hit was Lego - which they got from my friend on Xmas eve,

DD got some little Dalek figures in her stocking which she said was her favourite present - they are now patrolling the castle guarding the treasure, ready to exterminate any enemy knights that try to steal it grin

There are a few things that were misses on the day - puzzles/books type things - that are now being looked at as the initial WOW of the actual toys has worn off a bit.

Biggest hit for me was a Banksy print, DH's was glow in the dark ghostbusters PJ trousers grin

BelinaTheChicken Sun 30-Dec-12 10:32:31

fuzzpig I just came on to say the Playmobil castle was a massive hit, as was the Doctor's kit and outfit my sister bought.

As was this noisy but worth it!

fuzzpig Sun 30-Dec-12 10:44:50

I love your nickname, Belina, assuming it refers to return to oz?! Fabulous film. Can't wait til my DCs are old enough to watch it. Too scary for them at the mo.

fuzzpig Sun 30-Dec-12 14:55:37

We have given DSDs (both 14) their presents now too and am very happy that everything seems to have been a hit!

Most notably:
DSD1 - how to train your dragon DVD and cuddly Toothless
- moustache gloves grin
- make your own safety pin bracelet kit
- a Spock figure!
DSD2 - Harry Potter scene it
- I heart Tom Daley hoodie (thank goodness for eBay eh hmm)
- loads of books including hunger games

They both got mini speakers - called x-mini or something like that. They are brilliant!

And DH had got both DSDs and me a cuddly Minion, and 5yo DD a cuddly unicorn from despicable me! I actually shrieked when I opened mine blush

BringUsSomePigleyPudding Sun 30-Dec-12 18:19:35

The DD's got these from the grandparents and love them! Go to bed with them every night.

No2 son (age 11) has spend most of his time when allowed playing this game on the PS3 - It's One Piece Pirate Warriors - he is a big Manga fan

He also got this remote control plan with built in camera and has never looked at it since taking the wrapping of.
