RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 20-Dec-12 20:13:37

Follow-on thread from this one.

To quote SecretSantaSandyMumsnet:

So the spreadsheets have been completed, the matches have gone out, all is done. [gin]

We're all waiting with bated breath. If you're a recipient and you'd like to pop back on here when your gift arrives to thank your donor then do remember to look out for your MN code which will have been included in the address on the packaging and include it in your post. The person who sent the gift will then be able to know it's you.

If anyone has any questions about anything to do with the Mumsnet Christmas Appeal then do please email

Ho Ho Ho!

Yay! Thank you Rowan! Where is your Christmas name though??

FiveFestiveFlowers Thu 20-Dec-12 20:27:40

Rowan, thank you for starting another thread as I'm still waiting to be reassured my parcel posted on 1st December has arrived.

I'm really worried now and hope my recipient isn't thinking I haven't bothered sad

Not looking for thanks, and I appreciate there are reasons for not 'chasing up' but is there any way you can discreetly find out if gifts have been received?

McPheastOfStephen Thu 20-Dec-12 20:28:06

I really hope my SS has seen my thank you on thread 1. I was SS121....I think blush

This is recipient MN117 here. Thank you so much for the home made Scottish tablet. It's so scrummy. The kindness of MNers once again amazes me. The fact that someone has cooked for me, bundled it up, and posted it off to me is so humbling. All I have to say is many thanks.

Marking my place

Marking my place and desperately hoping the parcel I sent arrives in time for Christmas

chipmonkey Fri 21-Dec-12 00:12:15

I was not expecting a second package but another one arrived yesterday!
I am not sure if I am supposed to say who my Secret Santa is but I do "know" her. We are already MN buddies and sadly have the worst thing in common. We have both lost our precious children.
I honestly don't think she could have put more thought or love into that parcel if she had known me all her life.
The most beautiful shawl/wrap that actually goes perfectly with one of my dresses.
Sciency gifts for my older boys that they love and games for my younger two boys that went down very well!
A beautiful Christmas tree ornament for my girl, which I had been looking up online but never bought, one which represents my girl perfectly.
And a voucher for a restaurant which is a ten minute walk from my house and does the best pan fried chilli prawns ever, and dh and I can both drink wine and walk home! This in spite of the fact that she lives in another country.
If Carlsberg made Secret Santas, they'd make them like K!

giraffesCantFlyLikeReindeer Fri 21-Dec-12 00:22:56

MN219 Thank you so much for my lovely gifts. Was very surprised to recieve them - had not been told I was going to...MNHQ already had my address though so must have got it from that. Very kind of you and made me smile smile xx

SecretBanter Fri 21-Dec-12 00:37:48

I know my recipient doesn't know her number, but I posted MN106 today to a MNer in Hampshire. I want her to be able to see this message once she receives it.

So sorry for leaving it so late! When I signed up to donate, I had more money than I do now and being complacent and leaving things til the last minute like I usually do, I didn't realise I would have a lot less money now blush - car trouble = costly! So I'm sorry it's not much and I'm sorry I couldn't buy for your boys, only for you. Nevertheless I hope my gifts give you a smile.

I have just read through the first thank you thread and saw your number come up there too, so I think you may have 2 secret santas grin

I really hope your gift arrives in time and that you and your boys have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic 2013 x

SecretBanter Fri 21-Dec-12 00:40:23

Oh and I forgot to say - MN106 - the smaller parcel is something handmade by me, with love, and I hope it will remind you of the nest of vipers every time you look at it wink

Santa041 Fri 21-Dec-12 00:55:09

So the saga of your present continues (I posted earlier about a computer glitch confused) Anyhoo it appears you will get 1.5 gifts this year! They had doubled the order but one thing was out of stock - if that makes sense, it probably will once two parcels arrive. So you will have a double of one gift - please don't worry - re-gift, keep both for yourself, whatever works. All I know is just as life is too short to stuff a mushroom, its too short to worry about this grin
Have a fabulous Christmas!
<<Perhaps I should NC to Santa041 but just not very good at it>>

MN171 - many thanks for package that arrived yesterday. Still haven't opened my wrapped parcel but am off to spend my gift voucher tomorrow.

Many, many thanks and I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and New Year xxxxxxx

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Fri 21-Dec-12 09:20:57

How about RowanBerries for a Christmas name - would that be suitably festive ? smile

A message to Mumsnetter 219 in Glasgow - I got a wee parcel off to you yesterday and hope it may get to you in time for Christmas.

I hope it does but if not perhaps you can see it as a New Year/ winter solstice present to cheer you through the dark days of winter and welcome in the longer, warmer, brighter days of summer smile

Wishing everyone a happy winter solstice today
(and hoping the Mayans got it wrong !)

ShowOfHands Fri 21-Dec-12 09:44:24

Oh thank goodness there's another thread. I've been waiting a few days as I couldn't load the last one anymore (my netbook is hamster powered).

I was really, really shocked to receive another parcel the other day and I cannot stress enough how perfect it is. DD was in desperate need of new PJs (she honestly complains of 'windy ankles'; we don't correct her grin) and they are not only the right size but also the best design you could have chosen. She will be thrilled when she opens them on Christmas morning. I will photograph it and add to my profile. DS's PJs are ACE. I am only disappointed that they don't come in my size. They are wrapped and I will explain to dd where they came from on Christmas morning. I cannot wait.

You can also be very pleased that you've saved Christmas for my Dad, Grandma and Aunt. I usually make diabetic Christmas pudding for them but this year with things being a bit tight I haven't managed to buy the ingredients. The voucher has been spent on ingredients and tomorrow morning I will whip up a diabetic Christmas pudding for the three of them to enjoy. You've made a lot of people very happy.

And finally, I'm not sure if anybody remembers me mentioning it on the other thread but it's been a rum few weeks with my Mum's cancer coming back. When I typed the last message we were waiting for some histology results. Well....

Surgery over, no more treatment needed. On Christmas Day I will sit down to dinner with my parents, grandma, aunt, dh and the dc and we will raise a glass to the wonder that is MN. It's going to be a good 'un.

Happy happy happy Christmas to SS174, the lovely, wonderful MNer who nominated me, MNHQ and the Hangers On.

Roll on 2013, year of the unicycle.

janglebells2013 Fri 21-Dec-12 09:51:17

i cannot believe when the postman gave me a card addressed to the mumsnetter of the house.... it was such a lovely card and im so thankful for the amazon voucher, i can't believe someone who doesn't know me would be this kind at Christmas... seriously. thank you SO much. i always shop on amazon and there are things i need (and want) off there. you really made my day.....

and to whoever nominated me - i would love to know who it was as i have been a nightmare, always going on about all my stupid problems. ive had a difficult year and have received so much support from everyone here, i don't understand why i was nominated but thank you ever so much, its really cheered me up smile smile smile smile

<<sob>> So delighted to hear about your Mum being cancer free - what a wonderful Christmas present for all of you.

My Mum recently diagnosed with Alzhaimers - she is now taking what she calls her 'miracle tablets' they seem, for now, to have halted what was a rapid decline. She just rang me for the third time today asking what time do 'I want them' for their Christmas dinner grin Her words 'I dont know what time you bloody said....I know I am a pain in the bum but I may have to ring you again before the day!!!' LOL....and she will and I dont care!

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Fri 21-Dec-12 09:58:21

Hi shabba - just a thought that maybe next time she calls you could suggest she writes it down ? Does she have a really obvious notice-board/ calender she can check things on ? Christmas present possibilty ?

Lovely posts from everyone here !

MN205 Fri 21-Dec-12 09:59:07

MummyDoIt- thank you for being so so lovely and thinking of me, I'm really touched by your generosity. I've messaged you too- I hope you and your family have a beautiful Christmas, you really deserve it xxx

Flisspaps Fri 21-Dec-12 10:01:59

Show, that's bloody brilliant grin

She writes it down and then looses the piece of paper or cant remember what its about. I told her months ago we are not crying about this - crying will not solve anything - we are going to 'kick it in the balls over and over again' and spend our time laughing!!

(Apologies for kicking it in the balls on a lovely Christmassy thread)

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Fri 21-Dec-12 10:12:02

Hello Delta (MN091), no point in writing my real name as I very rarely post on here, am a serial lurker however, and have enjoyed being part of this secret santa mallarky, even if I am very tardy at getting things posted. I'm glad you have enjoyed your parcel, I hope the presents under the tree are okay, I have a DD(11) myself but she isn't your run of the mill 11 year old so hope that your DD likes her present, and no experience with little boys at all, so here's hoping. Your response made me a bit weepy and I'm so very pleased to have made your Christmas at all special. I will be looking out for you on the boards next year and wishing you every happiness in 2013.

ToReggie Fri 21-Dec-12 11:28:18

Hope this doesn't out you, there was no from MN number on your lovely parcel.

What fantastic choices you made for my DC! They will love those things, thank you very much. Hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas, I am really looking forward to ours here.

beans37 Fri 21-Dec-12 11:29:19

This is MN011 saying an enormous thank you for my lovely lovely smelly candles. I haven't opened the presents for my DDs yet as thought would save them for Christmas Day, but honestly, I'm so grateful. How very very generous and kind. Thank you.
I've had a bit of a rubbish few months as my beloved Dad died and I miss him so very much, so this is a real spirit lifter. Thank you thank you thank you.

beans37 Fri 21-Dec-12 11:31:20

Oh and also thank you to whoever nominated me. Very very touched. A I allowed to now who it was? X

Jangling bells I am hoping you we're my recipient as I sent an amazon voucher and card. Sorry it took so long, I had no idea amazon would take a week to deliver a voucher! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas .

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 21-Dec-12 12:40:08

I didn't think I would be on here posting my thanks AGAIN! I felt blessed and overwhelmed having two secret santas, and they were both wonderfully generous.

But the door went again today (I was still in bed having a blissful lie in which had turned into a "crap now I am too sore to get out of bed" moment, where I was drifting in and out trying to make a decision.) I hauled my ass out of bed, shouted from the top of the stairs I was coming, then got to the door as quickly as I could, before realising I was just in my pants. Cue trying to sign the recorded delivery thing half round the door. I am pretty sure he saw my granny pants.

So anyway, back to thanking you. I opened the bag to check first, and I got the charger base. I'm completely clueless btw, no idea what it was... I was going in my head oooh a Christmas light thingie maybe. Then the plug. Then the console, and I just stood there with my jaw hanging for a bit thinking, WOW! My son is going to be absolutely off his head with glee, he really loves gaming. And my DD will think that you read her mind, she was asking for similar, and getting very angry that we couldn't afford it (she has special needs, so anger is just the same as upset in this scenario).

The gifts are lovely too, and perfectly suited to both, DD the artist especially. And I am agog that you are still sending me something after all your generosity in the initial parcel.

I have to admit to sobbing. I was really touched to receive this unexpected parcel. Poor Salvation Army guy that knocked shortly later got me in my pants and sobbing, so I think he must have had quite a shock.

Mumsnet and those who sail in her, have made my year this year. So much so that I am devoting my 2013 to doing random acts of kindness, and will be blogging about it too. Thank you, thank you, thank you... Merry Christmas to every single one of you. I hope to be able to brighten someone's year next year. grin

AnotherSecretSanta117 Fri 21-Dec-12 13:46:44

Madsometimes : posted this yesterday just before the "old" thread closed", so thought I'd repeat it.

"Finally posted my wee contribution yesterday blush

Hope you don't suffer too much from the sugar rush enjoy the home made Scottish speciality. smile

I'm told a satsuma helps cleanse the palate so you can eat some more - although I've never tried that theory out 'cos I have such a sweet tooth I can always have "just one more" blush

Glad you like it! smile

blizy Fri 21-Dec-12 13:47:58

Oh my word, I just took delivery of another parcel! The generosity has completely overwhelmed me. I don't know your SS number but my number is MN018. Thank you so very much for the wonderful gifts, how did you know that soap and glory was my fav? Dh and I will enjoy munching on the yummy chocs too. Thank you again, the generosity of complete strangers has truly humbled me. Nest of vipers my ass! grin

WorraLorraTurkey Fri 21-Dec-12 14:25:35

Oh wow, another parcel arrived today - straight from Argos Direct with a gorgeous bottle of aftershave in!

It's perfect and my DH will love it. I'm going to tell him it was from a very generous MumsNetter.

So thank you so much whoever you are!

Merry Christmas grin thanks

onemorehohoho Fri 21-Dec-12 15:39:14

Am so glad the parcel was ok for you all.

Have a lovely Christmas, with all your family. grin

MN125 Fri 21-Dec-12 16:12:01

Thank you so much for my flowers, they are beautiful and the foliage smells of christmas! Dd was over the moon that they are her favourite colour (which is actually ds1's favourite as well). grin

They have pride of place in the centre of the dining table and look absolutely lovely there.

Merry Christmas! smile

SchoolShock Fri 21-Dec-12 16:33:52

Awaiting arrival of MN175 which I posted on Monday. smile

RedRosie Fri 21-Dec-12 16:47:19

I am - apparently - MN159 and I have just received an extremely generous gift.

I have no idea who it is from, or what I can possibly have done to deserve it (apart from some bad poetry earlier in the year - it could be a bribe to stop any further poetry ... grin) and I am in no material "need".

But it made my day. Thank you. For one reason or another I've not spent much time on MN in the last six months, but I will be back, Oh Nest Of Soppy Vipers.

I will also make a donation of equivalent value to Kids Company, in order to honour the donor and cover all bases in case this was a case of mistaken identity and it as meant for a more deserving MumsNetter.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I sent my box to mn014 on Wednesday. Wish I had done it recorded as im worried I left it too late for normal post.

MN109 Fri 21-Dec-12 16:50:47

SS to MN109 - I thought I'd let you know that your parcel arrived today. I wasn't in so it's waiting at thelocal Post Office. I'll go and get it tomorrow.

Very excited! Thankyou. x

LadyMaryChristmas Fri 21-Dec-12 16:53:47

MN108 Your card arrived today, I'm so very grateful. smile I'll spend it tomorrow on wine as ordered. I really do hope that you and your family have a lovely Christmas, I'll be raising a glass to you grin

crikeybadger Fri 21-Dec-12 18:11:45

MN045, a huge thank you for your amazing, overflowing box of presents that came today. It was full of so many wonderful things and we couldn't resist opening them this afternoon when everyone got home.

The boys have been so excited by all their gifts and have spend a very happy afternoon whizzing their cars around the house and have used their cups at supper time tonight.

Your gifts for me are spookily apt- the bracelet matches perfectly with a jumper I got the other day, I 've been thinking about getting a graze box for a while now and the make up is perfect as it's something I never quite get round to buying for myself, oh and the pre fabricated ginger bread house is just lovely. I had intended to make one and have bought all the bits to stick on one but just quite hadn't got round to it (as ever!). It will be a great thing to do over the weekend as well as all the other festive crafty things you sent us.

Thank you to whoever nominated me, I still don't really know why someone thought I was worthy, but thank you anyway, it was very much appreciated.

Thank you to DGG for choosing such fantastic presents, for wrapping them and sending them to us. You are a very kind person and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas x

redrosie I've worked for kids company in the recent past and know your donation will be very much appreciated by the exceptionally vulnerable children and young adults that kids company works with. Thank you for paying it forwards. smile

Merry Christmas lovely MN! smile

Marking place for tears and smiles news that my parcel has got there...

Excellent news, SoH!

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Fri 21-Dec-12 18:43:23

Redrosie, you are luffly! I'm not you SS or your nomination, but you made me laugh this year with your poems! I am sure it isn't a case of mistaken identity.

Got a poem for us now??

RedRosie Fri 21-Dec-12 19:49:39

Glaikit - you are a soppy mare!

In the dark days of December
Can you think of anything worse?
'Tis agony to remember
The crimes of Rosie's verse... grin

Seriously. Thank you so much to whoever nominated me (although I'm still sure it must be in error!) and to whoever sent this generous gift.

I will indeed pay it forward, as will many others I'm sure.

IShallCallYouSquishy Fri 21-Dec-12 19:53:24

I'm really hoping my recipient received her parcel. I took it to the post office 2 weeks ago and worried something may have happened. I don't want her to think she's been ignored. Hopefully it has been received safe and well and she's not had chance to come into MN yet.

Madsometimes Fri 21-Dec-12 20:03:25

And of course AnotherSecretSanta117 thanks for the lovely Christmas tree decoration.

I was slightly blush because this is the second parcel that I have received this Christmas from a MNer. Actually the third because Breastmilkmakesafablatte also sent me something, but separately from the appeal. Possibly the famous MN spreadsheet has gone wonky this year, because a few of us are double recipients.

So a massive, massive thanks to both my generous donors. The kindness of strangers is such a wonderful thing.

slatternlymother Fri 21-Dec-12 20:18:47

Marking my place waiting for MN172 really hoping you got your parcel which I posted 1st class on Tuesday. I'm worried the weather might've held it up and I hope you don't feel forgotten.

MN187 here.

I literally don't know what to say blush I picked up a recorded delivery package from the sorting office yesterday (3rd time I've been up there picking bits up this week thanks to my online shopping present spree, of course it was the only time I was asked for ID..."er, what, proving I am "The Mumsnetter of The House? Could be tricky..", I've not opened the lovely wrapped contents yet but thank you so very much, so so generous of you smile I thought that was beyond enough....

Then whilst tidying up earlier, I found an Amazon package amongst the debris on my dining table addressed to the MNer of the house. DP was helpfully vague when I asked when it turned up but thinks it may have been yesterday so sorry if anyone's been waiting for a thank you, but here it is, thank you, thank you, thank you! I have no clue what to put the voucher towards so am going to have a good think instead of being my impulsive self, inspired by someone else upthread who cryptically said their purchase could be life changing, I want to use it for something important too!!

I am terrible with words but hope my nominee/senders know how very very much your thoughts and actions mean to me and little Mud (and DP Mud too, who's thoroughly astounded by the whole thing!) I know I've said it before but count me in for the 2013 appeal, like, now! Thank you again smile

ElizaBecca Fri 21-Dec-12 21:06:18

I'm hoping MN027 recieves her parcel before Christmas, as although its an international posting thing, I did post it well before the final date for doing so.....although I realise she doesn't yet know she is MN027....

SLATTERN recipient "MN172" here, finally got a moment to sit down and thank you so much for my parcel which arrived this morning smile
Gosh even the postage cost made my eyes water, so the generous vouchers you included, well blushblush
SO very kind of you, even just taking the time out when its manic at this time of year, to think of someone else (especially someone you dont know) and put effort into buying presents, writing letters and schlepping to the PO which is going to be heaving this week, is such an amazing thing to do when youve all got kids, family and friends of our own to buy for.
Im truly touched just for the thought, time and effort and thats without the expense you went to - thankyou
The vouchers are very needed and most appreciated, the 2 gifts for my LO were lovely and the Christmas DVD is going on this weekend and one I love smile. Like others I dont feel very worthy of being nominated, I only post on one thread which is antenatal, so I assume one of the lovely kind mummies to be on there nominated me as my not-so-D-DP left me when I was 33 weeks pregnant and not having any family support I had no-one in RL to talk to and was very down sad Christmas will be tough not only financially but emotionally too for me and my 3 lovely DD'S but I have a beautiful 5 week old DS and we will be ok im sure. Reading through some of the previous threads, I havnt got it too bad and should count my blessings for my healthy DC's and its EX DP's loss wink Mammouth post sorry, but signing off with a huge and heartfelt thankyou to my nominator and slattern (love the name) for including me in a lovely MN tradition, I feel honoured. thanks to you both x

Catgirl, thank you so much for the gifts, they arrived this afternoon and brought tears to my eyes, just before I had to dash to collect DD from school. It has been non stop since then, so I only just got on mn. My presents are lovely, the soap smells amazing, the dc's gifts are waiting for Christmas Day smile.

Such a lovely thing, mn secret santa, it is my first time as a recipient and whilst I am not in need, I really appreciate the thought behind the gift, so would also like to thank my nominator (I suspect I was nominated as Tombleeboo), there was no need but thanks anyway smile

It was my absolute pleasure!!
Happy Christmas to you and your boys xx

ChipMonkeysSecretSanta Fri 21-Dec-12 22:23:54

Hurray Chip that your parcel got to you before Christmas. I am so glad that everyone in the family likes their pressies, it was great fun to go shopping for them. I must also admit to judicious use of Google Earth to find your local restaurant - I don't think I've been the only Secret Santa to do something similar grin. I was also so pleased to know who you were and to be able to include something for your beautiful Sylvie-Rose.

Christmas is a difficult time for bereaved parents - anyone who has suffered a bereavement really - as it's a time when your loved one's absence is acute. I'd like to say to everyone, when talking to bereaved family and friends this Christmas, please always acknowledge the person who has died and that we will be missing them, it means so much to us. It can be a line in a card, or a squeeze of the shoulder as you say you remember them, small gestures mean so much.

This has been my first year being involved in Secret Santa and it is brilliant. Thank you so much to SandyMumsnet and all of the elves who have been involved in the logistics of it all, you're fab xx

catgirl1976geesealaying Fri 21-Dec-12 22:28:42

MN196 - it is a complete pleasure grin

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and your DCs enjoy the little bits x

newbielisa Fri 21-Dec-12 22:56:59

Haven't name changed as don't bloody know how to.

MN216 - sorry for lateness, signed up before dd2 was born 6 weeks
ago and have been in newborn fuzz/fog since (plus I procrastinated
as wasn't sure what to get a 14 year old boy and 21 year old Man or even a 10 year
old boy.

One of the gifts for one of your older DS should arrived today or tomorrow
and the other 2 DS presents have been ordered and will hopefully
reach you before Christmas.

triplets Fri 21-Dec-12 23:26:40

Over the moon Showofhands to hear Mums news, that got to be the best Christmas present ever..........fingers x`d my dh`s ct scan in Jan will bring us good news too...........have a wonderful Christmas. xx

rubyrubyruby Sat 22-Dec-12 08:05:55

I'm hoping my package arrives before Christmas - I posted last Friday but it has a long way to go!

slatternlymother Sat 22-Dec-12 09:37:29

shanelle I spent so long trying to think what to put in, I didn't know your DS was so young; the email said he was under 1 so I really was guessing! I have a 2yo DS myself though and I let him help choose!

As for your DD's I can only apologise for unimaginative vouchers; I was going to do River Island, but then I panicked and thought 'what if they're tomboys?' I didn't know their sizes either, and they're all so different. I thought at least with vouchers, you can take them to lunch at the cafe and get something from the food court afterwards. I have no idea why it's on 2 cards btw; I blame DH for that one!

I'm so sorry your partner left you; that is truly fucking awful. I cannot imagine what you must be going through. What a loser. angry

You are in my thoughts always this Christmas, I really hope you have a lovely time with your children and that the New Year marks a turning point.

shanelle5 Sat 22-Dec-12 10:30:23

Thankyou slattern what a lovely message, you are very kind.
That shop has lovely food and usually WAY out of my price range so Im very much looking forward to going in there this weekend and treating us all to some goodies gringrin So please dont apologise for the vouchers, your efforts and thoughts are MORE than enough and mean a lot to us. Its always difficult to buy for other peoples DC when you dont know them too well at all let alone when they are older like my DD's but they will be delighted with smellies and chocolate tghings which I will pick up for them from M&S over the weekend xx

Recipient098 Sat 22-Dec-12 10:35:46

Im just popping back on to say to the lovely lady who sent me all the clothes, I wish you could have seen DD yesterday, in the Blue Woolly Dress with the matching knitted hat, she looked so beautiful in it smile, thank you again.

SantaFlashesHisBoobsALot Sat 22-Dec-12 10:43:09

Just wondering if MN203 had arrived? Was sent to Grandma. Sent another parcel on the same day and that got there two days ago, just a bit concerned.

slatternlymother Sat 22-Dec-12 11:10:37

Oh Shanelle I hope you manage to get some nice bits, and honestly I wish you all the best. You are in my prayers and I truly, truly hope that 2013 is a fresh start for you and your lovely family. Xxx

GetOnYourDancingShoes Sat 22-Dec-12 11:15:41

MN076 here.
I was really surprised to be nominated (I really don't deserve it) and was amazed to receive two parcels this morning! shock

Thank you to the lovely people who took time out of their busy lives to think of me and send such lovely gifts.

The first package had yummy chocolates, posh tea and a giftcard for M&S. The second had selection packs for DD and DS, which will be greatly appreciated, and a lovely Sanctuary Spa gift set for me.

I have squirrelled them away and intend to spoil myself silly this evening when they have gone to bed. Thank you!

I always feel a bit 'Bah Humbug' about Christmas...I miss my DS2 terribly and don't see much of DS1 and DS3 as they are all grown up and have their own lives. Thank you for cheering me up and boosting the old Christmas are amazing! grin

GetOnYourDancingShoes Sat 22-Dec-12 11:22:25

In my excitement I forgot to thank whoever it was that nominated me. (still don't know what I did to deserve it as I rarely post anything of interest)

Thank you thanks smile

fuzzpig Sat 22-Dec-12 11:39:18

MN072 here, I received another parcel today! shock But can't see their SS number. So I hope whoever you are, you see this!

Thank you so much, I am really really grateful you took the time to choose presents for us. I am very excited about using the sanctuary spa stuff as I've never tried it before grin

The DCs are very excited about the wrapped presents for them and I am especially impressed with the ribbony bows on top! Puts my wrapping to shame blush

I am in a lot of pain today (having done my first full week of work since I first got ill in summer) and it's been hard to join in with all the excitement decorating the tree etc... and then out of nowhere a lovely parcel arrived, and reminded me that someone out there has been thinking of us. Thank you so much whoever you are! smile thanks

SantaSandyMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 22-Dec-12 13:52:28

Rowan, thank you for starting another thread as I'm still waiting to be reassured my parcel posted on 1st December has arrived.

I'm really worried now and hope my recipient isn't thinking I haven't bothered sad

Not looking for thanks, and I appreciate there are reasons for not 'chasing up' but is there any way you can discreetly find out if gifts have been received?

Hi FiveFestive,
Did you get our mail? So sorry you are still concerned.
Please drop us an email at

MN109 Sat 22-Dec-12 14:23:50

Dear SS to MN109,

Thankyou so much for your lovely parcel. Not only was it very kind and well thought, but done with such a spirit of fun that it really made me giggle. I really enjoyed opening it. I have had a little feel of my one and I can guess. I'm saving it for a quiet moment to enjoy all by myself. Getting the parcel today has really given me alift and made me feel very festive.

The presents will really be enjoyed by the children again and again. Thankyou so much.

Happy Christmas to you and your family. I hope you have a great time and that 2013 brings you all you all you wish for. smile

Amazoniancracker Sat 22-Dec-12 15:03:17

Message to SS From MN206

Wow! A massive heartfelt thank you to my dear Secret Santa for such perfect and lovely gifts.

Ds will be taking the easel into hospital and the little bottles are a brilliant idea - I can fill them with scrubs, shampoos etc for when we have overnight stays. I just wouldn't have thought of that!!

And the gorgeous goodies from Lush, ooooo, what can I say?! Wonderful.

Whoever you are, you are so kind. Ds and I have had a tough year but your surprise pressies have cheered us both up enormously today. We hardly leave the house at the moment except for treatments so to know that someone has thought of us outside our small circle is really amazing and moving.

A thousand thank-yous. thanks smile

Wishing you and your family a very warm, joyful and fun-filled Christmas.

Love UA and littleamazonian. xx

chocoreturns Sat 22-Dec-12 15:33:19

hello again, it's MN038 here with another HUGE thank you. I don't even know where to begin - to get another gift just made that lump in my throat well up and I confess I got teary all over again.

DS1 is having the most wonderful time 'educating' his little friend Macie about how to make the driver drive his train, throwing himself all over the place in fits of giggles when it comes chasing them both. He is beyond delighted. I am beyond touched. DS2's present is wrapped and tucked under the tree (no such luck sneaking DS1's past him! Soon as the parcel arrived I was followed around with 'What's that mummy?' on repeat until I showed him!) The yummy chocolate for me has been safely stashed out of the way of little eyes and hands.

You have made me feel so completely loved and I'm overwhelmed with the kindness of strangers. Although I feel I know so many of you so well from all the wonderful support you've given me this year, I know that the person who sent me this lovely parcel doesn't know me at all - which makes it all the more special.

You are AMAZING, mumsnet is amazing. I hope you know how special you are, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. With love to your family at Christmas too XXX

scarlet5tyger Sat 22-Dec-12 15:44:20

Hi, mn168 again here. Yesterday I received another lovely gift which I'm (so far) resisting the temptation to open this time! I was over the moon to receive one present so to get a second is really overwhelming.

So a huge thank you to my corpulent Christmas elf grin. I hope you have many lovely treats yourself xx

BOFingSanta Sat 22-Dec-12 15:58:06

MNHQ- thank you for organising this, and just for being lovely. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. Big love and Merry Christmas to you all xxx thanks

LatteLady Sat 22-Dec-12 17:18:34

I have just received a second gift... I was just plain over the moon to receive one but two - runs round the room juggling Christmas balls!

So thank you donor 25, it was actually put through next door's letter box yesterday, but now I have it... I am being sooooooo good, it is sat in its jiffy bag under my tree... And I cannot feel a thing... it doesn't rattle, it doesn't squelch but it does make me feel so happy... maybe I should not open it and just enjoy the anticipation... but you know I will on Christmas morning!

Thanks Donor 25 for your kindness and generosity... do you know I haven't sniffed it yet... right I am off to sniff! smile

OhYouMerryLittleKitten Sat 22-Dec-12 19:25:45

Thank you so very much for my very generous vouches MN144 smile they have put a huge smile on my face! My favourite place is in the bath and I know exactly what I am going to spend mine on - luxury bubble bath just for me! - what an indulgence!
dd was very impressed with you knowing which store we had in town for her voucher. She is just getting into clothes shopping, so it will be interesting to see what she chooses grin

Thank you too to the person who nominated me. It means a great deal to me.

Some very un-mn hugs and love to you all.

WorraLorraTurkey Sat 22-Dec-12 20:58:27

newbielisa MN216 here...sorry I forgot to include my number in the thank you upthread! blush

Honestly your gift was so very generous, there's really no need for any more! shock

And especially when you have a newborn to concentrate on...not to mention all the other mayhem that goes with Christmas!

Your gift was perfect and more than enough thanks

Congratulations on your new baby and Merry Christmas to all of you! wine

MN079 Sat 22-Dec-12 22:02:26

MN079 here, with huge thanks for the lovely gift that just arrived! thanks

The gift brought tears to both my and DH's eyes (no small feat!) as we read together to DS, so thank you for a very special moment as well! Such a thoughtful gift! smile Merry Christmas to you and your family!

lalabaloo Sat 22-Dec-12 22:44:58

MN076 and MN072 I'm so glad you both received your parcels and you are pleased with them.

MN076 I'm glad the DC are excited about chocolate, I didn't know whether they might be chocolated out by Christmas time! Make I hope you have been relaxing in the bath tonight! I'm sorry I don't recognise your username so I'm not sure if we have crossed paths on here before. Merry Christmas!

MN072 I should confess that actually I didn't wrap the presents, a kind lady at a charity present wrapping stall thingy did! I hope you are also spoiling yourself tonight smile the presents for the DCs are only small token presents, but I hope theywill enjoy them. I recognise you from some of your posts, how are things going? Have a wonderful Christmas!

<off to finish present wrapping if I can see through the tears...>

breadandhoney Sun 23-Dec-12 00:58:38

I've just found your message on the first thread. I am so glad that your gift arrived safely and that you are already planning how to spend your voucher. I do hope your dd enjoys her present too. It was a pleasure putting something together for you both.

Wishing you a peaceful Christmas and a very very very happy new year smile

GoodKingWenSOLOslas Sun 23-Dec-12 03:15:53

fuzzpig Sun 23-Dec-12 07:18:58

Thanks lalabaloo, I'm glad you saw my post smile and don't worry about the wrapping thing, I am very pleased that some money went to charity 'on my behalf' if that makes sense. We have one of those wrapping stalls each year that I never get round to using!

Things are getting more sorted for Xmas now, haven't done any of the things I wanted to, house still a mess, but given the circumstances I think we've done well just to get the tree up let alone anything else! smile x

SS038 Sun 23-Dec-12 08:22:19

chocoreturns you are more than welcome! I was worried it wouldn't arrive on time, so pleased it did. Have a wonderful Christmas with your boys smile

ChristMouseTimeMistletoeNoWine Sun 23-Dec-12 12:37:11

<runs in>

<throws Christmas glittery shapes all over thread and shouts>....

Merry Christmas to you all, to those who very kindly donated, to those who so kindly nominated and to those who are just having a really rough time of things but are maybe smiling a bit more thanks to the wonder of MNHQ setting all of this up in the first place.

HUGE hugs for MNHQ! xx

KnottyLocks Sun 23-Dec-12 13:52:51

So, it appears I am MN106 smile

One package has arrived and another is being redelivered as the Post Office wouldn't let me have it, pesky people!

To my Secret Santa,
thank you so very, very much smile I have opened your lovely gifts as I couldn't wait! I LOVE the little heart you made: it is gorgeous and is now hanging proudly and beautifully in my home. I will indeed think of this amazing nest of vipers when I look at it. And as for the Italian treats....Phworrrrrr grin I have been dropping very heavy hints to DH about the very same things. I shall demolish nibble them delicately and think of your kindness. Bless you. I am chuffed to bits grin Wishing you and your family the most lovely Christmas. x

To my nominator:

I am so very touched to be nominated, I really am. Thank you.
I assume it is for being (as my youngest would say) 'a bissy bossy' Woolly Hugger grin as to be honest I don't find too much time to wander far from the wool related threads at the moment.
Woolly Hugs would honestly not exist as they do without the most amazing Blanketeers: a warm-hearted, funny, generous bunch of crafters, donors and pompom wavers who offer their skills, time, money and support. They help to create the most amazing things made with love, to give comfort to others at their most difficult time. That is remarkable. They are remarkable. I'm very proud to play a small part in that and what can be achieved when people work together as they do here. Humanity itself.

Thanks to Mumsnet, I have also met some fabulous women many of which are now good friends. Sadly, some of the most inspiring of these women I have only met due to their devastating loss. How I wish that were different.

Mumsnet can be sparky, supportive, funny, a tad spikey even <whispers> viperish grin at times but it is never without heart. smile

Wishing a peaceful festive time to all my fellow Mumsnetters and their families and a new year filled with love. x

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Sun 23-Dec-12 14:10:33

Knotty! I shall now call you bissy bossy! Without you and pistey the woolly hugs would be in no way the success they are. You deserve your gifts so much!

I nominated you, but I'm sure I wasn't alone.

And boo to the post office! Perhaps next year MNHQ could ask for surnames to be put with the addresses, only if the recipient is happy to of course. Would prevent the m traipsing to the post office only to have to reschedule delivery.

Merry Christmas to one and all! wine

MOSagain Sun 23-Dec-12 16:08:50

Totally agree with Glaikit bissy bossy, you and pistey are the best xx

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sun 23-Dec-12 17:00:09

Oh Knotty I'm so pleased it is you! My parcel is the one that the Post Office still have - I hope you get it tomorrow!

Merry Christmas x

Anyway HQ can let me know my number?

I've had the most lovely parcels for ds, dd and dc3 (who arrived wednesday and is a Girl smile) and a pressie for me but in the chaos of getting ready for hospital etc the packaging has gone, also it went to the sorting office so I'm now stupidly late in sending my thanks so sorry blush.

Anyway, a huge heartfelt hormonal thank you to the lovely mner who sent such thoughtful gifts for a ds age 5 and dd age 3 and newborn dd and me, I've managed not to peek at mine! Honestly they are so perfect for them dp asked if it was someone who knew us, ds asked for the london 2012 double decker bus but when I finally got round to going to get one they'd gone, so that and the taxi will really really please him, and dd is obsessed with those yoohoo creatures! Every thing is so perfect for them they will love it I was very emotional opening them, Really thank you SO much! I'm, well more likely dp, will be wrapping them tonight with the paper you included and were putting them in there stockings from santa. I hope from that my secret santa knows they've arrived if hq can't post my number, so sorry again for such a late response.

SecretSantaMN202 Sun 23-Dec-12 19:47:28

Checking in on here in the hope that my recipient has received her was posted over a week ago so I really hope it's arrived.

MN203 Sun 23-Dec-12 22:24:59

santaflashes I just arrived at Grandma’s today and found to my amazement and delight a wonderful box of gorgeous presents from you! I really wasn’t expecting this because I had received something previously that was an amazing surprise too, and I had absolutely no idea there was something else on the way smile

Thank you SOOOO much! I sneaked a peep into one of the golden parcels that your lovely card mentioned were for me and discovered a gorgeous box of beautiful truffles which Grandma and I laid into immediately [yum] [greedy]

The other pressies, for DCs and me, I have placed under the tree ready for Xmas morning. I know the DCs will be completely thrilled and amazed, as I am and I can’t wait to see what’s in them! And the DCs will love the singing penguins!!! They adore their teddies and these are so sweet grin

Many thanks again for your kindness and thoughtfulness. I wish you and yours a beautiful, love filled Christmas and I send you love and thanks from my DCs and me. They haven’t had the easiest of years and they really deserve this special and surprising treat smile

TrazzleMISTLEtoes Sun 23-Dec-12 23:12:55

Thank you so so so much. The voucher arrived yesterday but I've been rushed off my feet and haven't had a chance to post my thanks until now.

It was lovely to be nominated. (Thank you, kind nominator) I've been on Mumsnet for a while but only really started posting this summer. We've had a tough few months with DS being diagnosed with neuroblastoma (one of the most aggressive cancers) in October. He is doing well for the moment but we will be spending most of the next 12 months in hospital, all being well.

The voucher was very generous of you and I will use it to buy some nice smellies for DH and me. It's nice to have something lovely to use at the hospital, and also nice to have something to spoil ourselves with at home.

Thank you thank you thank you and I hope that you and yours have a wonderfully merry Christmas x

OscarSwoosh Mon 24-Dec-12 00:52:58

I'm the sender and maker of the heart and Italian nibbles (oh, I didn't make those, just the heart!) Thank you so much for your kind message, I'm so happy you like it smile
I don't know if you saw it, but I left another message much earlier on this thread for you after I posted the parcel, under the username SecretBanter.
I'm not familiar with your MNname but I am aware of the woolly hugs and blanketeers and even though it's not something I've been involved in, I'd like to thank you for all that you do, it's such a lovely and wonderful thing thanks

We are just about ready for Christmas here, apart from a sudden change of plan involving some family members coming here for dinner on the day, meaning we have to brave the Christmas-Eve-Tesco-Nightmare!

Have a wonderful Christmas and a merry new year grin

muddydevilsonhorseback Mon 24-Dec-12 02:14:26

MN091 here again - I just got a second parcel this morning from C AKA the Christmas Elf grin

Thank you so much for the lovely card and the gifts for the DC grin

I've popped them under the tree and the timing was perfect. I'm actually starting to feel all excited about christmas now. Was having a little wobble about the lack of gifts for them but they have a lovely pile now thanks to your generosity.

I really hope you all have a wonderful christmas and a happy new year!

PavlovtheCat Mon 24-Dec-12 11:06:04

I am the proud owner of a fabulous parcel MN150. It arrived all wrapped with parcel string like in the olden days, and I just got home in time to stop the poster taking it to the sorting office. I said as I saw him writing the card out on my wall 'is that for Pavlov?' And he replied 'are you the mumsnetter of the house?' And I said yes, he grinned and gave it to me!

I have not opened it yet, I am going to wait until tomorrow!

I want to say a humongous thank you. And sorry for taking so long to come and say it has arrived safely. I have had huge back pain this week and been a little out of it.

I did not name change as I wanted the king and generous mner know who they bought for and how appreciated it is to be thought of. xxx

PavlovtheCat Mon 24-Dec-12 11:10:51

And I also want to say thank you to the MNer who nominated me. I have no idea why, but on such popular forum with so many amazing and deserving people, I am overwhelmed to be thought of.

MsNobodyAgain Mon 24-Dec-12 11:24:47

MN132 again. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! to my flower sending SS.

I'm in proper tears! blush

The flowers have just arrived with your lovely message. They are beautiful. Thank you so very much.

Today started at 3am for me with various worries/health issues with DS2. The flowers couldn't have arrived on a better day.

I hope you see this message.

SecretSanta MN075 Thank you very much for the W H Smith giftcard. My children say thank you as they would like to choose a book with the gift card. x
This has been another bad year for us but I feel very special when love arrives from a MN. Peace and Light in abundance to you and your family x

Calling MN051....I really hope you got my parcel. I posted it on wednesday and they said you'd get it before Christmas as I don't live far from you

I just wanted to know that your secret santa may be a bit disorganised but she hasn't forgotten you x

Raeray Mon 24-Dec-12 13:56:34

Msnobody you are more than welcome. I was bit worried you hadn't got the other little parcel but have just seen your message on the old thread hidden at the end of it!
Hope ds2 is feeling a bit brighter as the day goes on and that you all have a brilliant Christmas. grin

Raeray Mon 24-Dec-12 13:58:15

Ps also a wave and a merry christmas to tallwivglasses who was my match last year!! grin

SS110 Mon 24-Dec-12 14:31:50

LatteLady I suspect that I am Donor 25 (my house number is 25 and I wrote from 25 POST CODE on the back, it was addressed to MNer 110) but your description matches what I sent (jiffy bag with not much room to manoeuvre in it!) and it was you I posted to. I managed to stalk work out who you were from the details in the message from MN and a bit of googling.

I do hope you like it, I'm sorry it's not a big fancy thing!

Merry Christmas to you x grin

Trumpton Mon 24-Dec-12 14:34:18

Thank you so so much for the parcel of delights . I was taken to Tiger by my lovely niece who wanted to show me her favourite shop . I had flown into England with just hand baggage so was only able to gaze longingly at all the goodies that I can not get here .
I kept squeaking with excitement as unpacked more special gifts .
Thank you, thank you .
I will enjoy all of it . <<eyes up gingerbread house and gets icing set out >>
You really could not have chosen better for me even if you knew me !
Please have a wonderful Christmas from a very happy trumpton x

Hi Raeray - your parcel inspired me - there's something for each of 051's family. I was really annoyed I didn't have time to put the pombears in though!

Honestly, a year on and I still remember the excitement. A merry Christmas to you x grin

MsNobodyAgain Mon 24-Dec-12 15:50:51

Raeray, I am so glad you have seen my thanks.

DS2 seems fine. I think it is just a cold. Phew!

mn014 Mon 24-Dec-12 17:43:26

I was told by MNHQ I would receive 3 parcels. I have only received one. I'm very grateful but felt I should let my SS know in case they are wondering why I haven't thanked them all.
Happy xmas to all MNers!

mn014 Mon 24-Dec-12 18:00:40

me again, just checked royal mail, it says last recommended posting date for standard parcels was 13th December.

OlaRapaceFru Mon 24-Dec-12 18:06:21

I'm slightly reluctant to post this too, as I don't want to sound 'grabby'; but I'd like my Secret Santa to know that I'm not being impolite by not acknowledging my 'gift'. Nothing has arrived yet. So I'm not being rude - I guess it's still stuck in the 'pesky Post' somewhere.

But Merry Christmas to my Secret Santa - and also to my nominator.

MulledwineGless Mon 24-Dec-12 18:07:51

This is why it would be useful for MNHQ to let the nominee know their number when they send the email letting them know they ave been nominated

Such a shame that some presents have not been received by Christmas. I can't help but think that part of the problem was that the matches were sent out extremely late this year. I've been a donor the last 4 years and in previous years had been living in the Middle East and there was no way I'd have got a parcel sent back in time. Maybe MNHQ could bear this in mind and perhaps send out matches a little earlier next year?

Fabulous job done though MNHQ thanks and wine

mn014 I posted a parcel first class post last Wednesday, I wish I had sent it tracked now, im so sorry, will send something else as soon as post starts again sad

ThePlEWhoLovedMe Mon 24-Dec-12 18:33:03

For anyone waiting for a gift....I sent to someone just NW from Glasgow - Didn't post till Friday but was hoping it would arrive this morning.

hello - i'm MN188 just wanted to let my SS know nothing has arrived yet hence me not posting till now (wanted to give it right up to the last postman day).

don't worry - will be a pleasure to have something after christmas and i just feel really blessed to have been nominated smile

like someone else said i didn't want to think that some generous mn'er was scanning these threads wondering why their recipient wasn't speaking up.

hang on! i've posted thinking i already posted before i don't think i did! i did receive a parcel for ds a little while back with gross stuff that he'll love grin i meant that i was told i'd receive a second parcel and that is the one that hasn't arrived.

i had it in my head i'd posted thanks for ds's parcel but i don't think i have - sorry. muddle headed with going back to work and christmas. so sorry to be rude and not say thank you until now.

ds will be making the bouncy eyeballs with my teenage nephew on boxing day smile

LuckyrecipientMN042 Mon 24-Dec-12 19:34:45

To the nameless donor of the very generous present that arrived today, thank you very much indeed. I still have no idea what I have done to merit being nominated, but am very touched to receive such kindness.

Wishing you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

mn014 Mon 24-Dec-12 19:57:07

whistling waves, don't worry, I'm sure it will turn up, it will be a nice new year's present, I'm just grateful to have been thought of at all smile thanks

Just checking in to see if my parcel to MN143 has arrived. It was posted a week ago to a mumsnetter in London. I have looked through this thread and the end of the last one...

Not looking for thanks but hope it arrived.

PollyIndia Mon 24-Dec-12 21:53:08

I was MN220 I think and I was so touched and overwhelmed when I got my gift. Thank you so much, whoever you are. I can't believe the generosity.
I hope you have a very merry Christmas and the happiest of years in 2013. In fact I wish that for all of us.
Merry Christmas xx

DeltaUniformDeltaEcho Tue 25-Dec-12 07:20:18

Just wanted to pop on and thank Secret Santas 091 properly now that the kids have opened their gifts.

I have one very excited DD...or maybe a stray bear from the zoo... she is absolutely chuffed with her hat/scarf thingy!

DS has been happily colouring in his magic painting book too.

And wow - I have a lovely new bag!

We feel very very spoilt today.

Last night I put their gifts under the tree. I had gotten them 3 each and I know it's not about the amount but I must admit that I felt a little sad at the little pile. But adding the wonderful secret santa gifts really made it look more like a normal christmas.

You, and every secret santa here have done a wonderful wonderful thing. It really is the thought. The biggest gift we've had this year has been kindness. And It's been the best christmas for it.

Happy Christmas all xxx

catgirl1976geesealaying Tue 25-Dec-12 10:12:58

Thank you so much for your beautiful, thoughtful and lovely gifts! thanks

DS will be wearing the outfit to my parents today for Christmas dinner - it fits him perfectly and he looks adorable in it!

I love my scarf and gloves (also getting a Christmas outing today) and I will demolish the chocs and biscuits later on grin

I hope you and your family have a wonderful brought a tear to my eye with your wonderfulness x

Just wanted to pop on and say a big thank you to secret Santa MN010 . You are so kind. DS looked very snug in his snow suit and I will enjoy spending my voucher. The sleep suits are lovely too. Such kindness from a stranger is quite overwhelming smile Thankyou again xx

GoodKingWenSOLOslas Tue 25-Dec-12 12:36:34

Thank you MN179 for the gorgeous Hotel Chocolat chocolates (new experience) and the book! I shall enjoy both and despite my extensive library, I don't (didn't!) have that one in it smile

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

RedRosie Tue 25-Dec-12 14:48:39

A thank you once again from MN159, to whoever nominated me (why?) and to whoever donated ... I hope they - and all of you - are having a wonderful Christmas, and that 2013 brings good things for all.

ChristMouseTimeMistletoeNoWine Tue 25-Dec-12 15:53:58

Celebmum - Nemo says thank you VERY much thanks for his Cars and his Duplo!! Both are fantastic and he LOVES the fact that the Cars have little suckers on! Extra bath time fun for sure!

I can't thank you enough, I hope that you're all having a nice a day as we are, Nemo is better than he was, still not well but better, so it's nice to see him playing today, for the first time in what feels like weeks.......

Merry Christmas lovely lady,

Mouseface (*MN127*) xx thanks xx

Sorry, I mean what sprouts just said. ...Christmas brain alert!

OlaRapaceFru Tue 25-Dec-12 17:04:49

I'm MN145.

And I'm also utterly, utterly mortified blush

DP took delivery of your parcel a few days ago, while I was out. Unfortunately he thought it was from his adult DD to me/us, so he saved it up until today, when family presents are given out! (In his defence, he didn't know about the MN Secret Santa!)

So ... thank you so, so much for your lovely gifts. I'm absolutely overwhelmed. How amazingly kind of you. Luxury chocs, fab skincare stuff and a gift voucher - plus a present for my step-grand daughter. You are too, too kind. Thank you thanks thanks

I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year.

OlaRapaceFru Tue 25-Dec-12 17:13:06

Ooops, just looked at your note with the gift voucher - of course I will buy clothes for DSGD with it!!!

CrackleMauve Tue 25-Dec-12 18:23:36

I am SS145, so glad you got it ok! Spend the voucher on whatever you fancy, think the sale is meant to be good this year!

Merry Christmas!

Just bobbing in to say Merry Christmas.
For many of us here at MNHQ, this thread makes our Christmas too. You're all lovely lovely people <sob>

Wishing you all the best for 2013.

JugsMcGee Tue 25-Dec-12 19:14:53

Santa MN202 here. Hope your gift arrived ok. Sorry it wasn't a lot. Hope you've had a lovely Christmas smile

imdreamingofaskyebluechristmas Tue 25-Dec-12 20:25:01

I said thanks already but I'll say it again. SS176 - thanks so much for the presents for my DD. one of the first things she played with was the sticker dress up dollies and she can't wait to get her hands on the stamps. (Put them away until tomorrow as best dress and ink pads don't mix!) grin

I hope that my vouchers arrived for MN 043.

Jamdoughnutfiend Tue 25-Dec-12 20:37:47

Mn042 - hope your voucher arrived and you had a merry Christmas

SecretSantaNo1toMN110 Tue 25-Dec-12 20:52:28

This is a message for Lattelady - I think I am the Secret Santa who sent you the first (rattling) package. I missed it in the first thread because you'd put MN 11 instead of 110. Not to worry, just glad that I found you and that the parcel arrived ok, was worried that it hadn't! Hope you have had a wonderful Christmas Day, and that you liked the pressie once you'd managed to get into it!

Lots of love from SS110.

Jamillalliamilli Tue 25-Dec-12 20:54:05

Huge apologies to also to both my nominator and the lovely person who responded.

Our address here’s temporary and there’s been a slight misunderstanding about mail, and I've just been told it’s been sitting in a pile of assumed to be Christmas cards for a week. blush

I’m not sure which number is the code? There’s not a number in the address but some around the bar code. I think it's S22 (if that’s not it then 177? There isn't a number with MN before it)
You've included the message From one ‘person in X area’ to another! and I really hope you see this and can identify yourself.

We've just opened presents and cards here and there it was a wonderful surprise as things have been all over the place here and I didn't know about the nomination until after the closing date and didn't get the message telling me to send details anyway until late either, so wasn't at all sure it would happen and other events pushed it from my mind.

I can’t tell you how much it means, not only the voucher which is hugely appreciated, and very kind of you, but also the card and the knowledge someone out there wanted to do this. It really means a great deal.

I hope you’re having a lovely Christmas, I've been making it for everyone else, as you do, but you've really made mine. thanks

Jacksmania Tue 25-Dec-12 21:10:57

DS opened your gift this morning and was delighted smile
He's covered several huge sheets of paper with dinosaur stamps already. I'm going to teach him the card game later, he's already made me read him the names of most if the dinosaurs.

I've already posted a thank you on the first Secret Santa thread, I hope you saw it, but wanted to post again and tell you how much he loved it.
Thank you and merry Christmas to you and yours!
Love, Jacks

SecretSantaMN202 Tue 25-Dec-12 21:24:55

Do all the Secret Santas have a different number? I'm having an identity crisis because JugsMcGee says she's MN202 too shock.

Oh well, my recipient has received her parcel so it doesn't really matter if I have a twin!

PamSco Tue 25-Dec-12 22:13:24

I wanted to say a HUGE thank you for my present from the wonderful lady who sent the most amazing gifts. Beyond generous.

The note said you and your loved ones had been ill, I hope you are all better now and have enjoyed the day. We were ill to, same norofrenzy, so we only got the parcel yesterday from the post office along with all our internet shopping smile

Your present for my DS has gone to the top of the pile as his favourite - he is currently asleep clutching the little cat. Sweet.

Thank you again.

PamSco Tue 25-Dec-12 22:14:46

btw i don't know if i'm mn149 or you are!

MN107 Tue 25-Dec-12 22:44:36

Dear gift giver (I am not sure if I am MN107 or you are!)

Thank you so much for the beautiful gift you sent me, - I will feel very pampered using all those lovely things smile

And what a kind and special person you are to be so generous to a stranger, I feel touched and overwhelmed by your lovely gift and your generosity.

My family all send their love too - my DS said 'isn't mumsnet nice' smile and he's right MN is a great place, full of great people like yousmile

I send all my good wishes to you and your family for Christmas and New Year, thank you again and bless you xx

MN086 Tue 25-Dec-12 22:51:13

A massive thank you to the very kind MN063 for the voucher. I am still so overwhelmed by your generosity and the lovely message in the card too smile

And also another really special giftbox packed with thoughtful and much welcomed gifts. The handwarmers have already been bagsied by the children. I'm crap at thankyou's usually because I just can't find the words and I'm not used to the fuss and attention blush

But it made my day, I am glowing with the knowledge that you kind people care and are happy to make the effort for someone else to make them happy too.

I can't believe it, I really can't smile smile smile

Thank you so much, wishing you and yours good health and happiness over the coming years.

Happy Christmas xxx

Merry Christmas from me. This thread made my year. Bless you all.

YankNCock Tue 25-Dec-12 23:31:04

To both my Secret Santas SS217, just wanted to say thank you again. Everything you both sent was spot on for the boys, and I'm happy to have some fancy creams and bath stuff for me, I never tend to buy it for myself! There was one book DS1 already had a copy of, but it was great because I was able to re-wrap and give it to my neighbour's little boy who I'd not been able to get much for. Really hope that's ok and you don't mind. They don't have any family nearby and neither do we, so for the 2nd year in a row we had Christmas dinner together. They cooked, since we did it last year.

Between my mumsnet secret santas, a very special shiney friend, my neighbours, my brother, and my dad, we've been very blessed with gifts and a Christmas meal we would not otherwise have been able to afford. I was feeling a bit rubbish about it all today, but DH said 'It's better to give than receive, sure, but someone has to be the recipient'. I hope next year I can be as generous to someone else as people have been to me this year.

PS - I hope the Christmas cards arrived and it wasn't too stalker-ish!

chipmonkey Wed 26-Dec-12 01:22:31

MN036 here again!
Just wanted to say thank you to HariboJo again as ds1 found a Next voucher when unpacking the Wii, which I hadn't seen. That was doubly thoughtful of you.
Also, such a funny thing. MIL picks up computer games in the shops and doesn't check what console/computer before. So last night, Christmas Eve, he came up to me with this game she had bought him, for the Wii. And of course he was so disappointed that the game couldn't be used. This was a complete fluke, MIL didn't know about your lovely gift! And he was so happy to come down this morning and find your lovely present and be able to play the game. I think the Christmas fairy must have whispered in MIL's ear!grin

Santa109 Wed 26-Dec-12 10:08:55

I'm glad that you liked the gifts! I hope that Christmas was lovely for you and wish you all the best for the new year smile

MerryLindor Wed 26-Dec-12 11:08:55

Thank you again for the fantastic gifts. The DC loved their PJs and the hot water bottles. DD gave the dog the little teddy in the pocket of her hot water bottle and she has been cuddling it since.

I've stashed my chocs well out of sight of the DC. They are AdultChocs, not to be wasted on them!

My DH and my parents were amazed (again) by the power of MN smile

LatteLady Wed 26-Dec-12 11:10:16

I just want to say a further thank you to the lovely Mumsnetters who made my Christmas... I have a box of Milk Tray (am still looking for the man in black to go with it) and some fantastic sewing accoutrements. Not just pretty pins, which I am itching to use but a fabulous handbag charm and matching button necklace, how did you know that my signature necklaces are button necklaces? I now need to track down the tape measure ribbon... it is just wonderful.

Thank you both for making my Christmas... your kindness has warmed me through and through, thank you xxxxx

PavlovtheCat Wed 26-Dec-12 12:25:21

MN150 just coming back to say DD loves her bracelet making kit and DS (and DD!) LOVE the Hungry Hippos game, which we are going to play in a minute.

You are very kind, thank you so much. I hope you and your family had a great Christmas yourselves and have a fabulous 2013. xx

MN011 here. Just wanted to say thank you so very very much to my lovely SS, who not only gave me loads of smelly candles (in a good way!), but also gave my DDs a wealth of fantastic Disney Princess stuff, hair accessories, Gruffalo bits, Mr Man and Little Miss books and an alphabet jigsaw and a fantastic watch! DDs in a happy little world playing with them, so thank you so very much. So kind.

A huge thank you to travailtotravel for my lovely gifts.

The lipbalms were perfect- I am a lipsalve addict, you couldn't have chosen a better gift if you had tried.
I loved the little snowman and the chocolates look delicious.

I haven't spent the vouchers yet, but I'm looking forward to buying something nice in the next few weeks

Thank you for everything - I hope you and your family had a great Christmas.

MN044 Wed 26-Dec-12 15:26:35

I had 2 fab parcels turn up on the same day and posted a thank you last week- but I'm here again to say a giant thank you to both secret santas. The dc have loved everything that was sent. My ds thinks the box of practical jokes is hilarious and thanks to you I now have a very realistic looking 'poo' sittign in the corner of my living room grin and a whoopee cushion being put underneath me at every opportunity. My dd has already started the knitting and all chocolates sent have been scoffed blush Ds2 has been very poorly for a few days, but the blow up push along thingy has been a big hit and has been the one thing he's opened as the rest is under the tree waiting for him to feel better.I haven't even mentioned everything as I'm not feeling particularly eloquent today thanks to the baby passing on his wonderful germs and am sat here in a darkened room, but I wanted you to know we had such a lovely christmas which just a few months ago didn't seem at all possible. thanks

MNPdoesYULETIDE Wed 26-Dec-12 16:04:03

Dear SS104, Just wanted to come back again now that we have opened our presents. Thank you so very much for your generosity. We will enjoy spending the voucher and eating the chocolate. My 17 year old daughter is delighted with the bracelet, and I love body shop things so your choices were perfect. I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and wish you a happy 2013!

SecretSanta156 Wed 26-Dec-12 19:31:32

Rabbits I haven't been back to the thread since you got your parcel, but I have just caught up with both threads, and saw your post about your DCs opening the presents before they went away for Christmas. I'm so glad you all liked everything.

I hope you are having a good Christmas yourself and wish you all a Happy New Year from the SS156 family.

fuzzpig Wed 26-Dec-12 20:36:53

Hello again gonerogue and lalabaloo from MN072 smile

Just wanted to say another big thank you as we opened the wrapped presents yesterday.

Gonerogue, thank you so much for the lovely toiletries, I'm very much looking forward to using them! And I'm now the envy of my mum ("ooooh molton brown!!!") grin am excited about digging in to the shortbread too, since I love it but never buy it myself. thanks I confess we haven't given the DCs the lovely toys yet - I am going to do this tomorrow though as they will be very sad that I'm going back to work (I'm sad too!) and they will be kept very busy by them. I have been too achy to get into town for more wrapping paper so they are unwrapped blush but they will still love them. DH will really enjoy the knex too grin. The chocolate coins that went in their stocking were finished today - they insisted on sharing them with mummy and daddy, bless them smile

Lalabaloo, the DCs loved their presents - DS instantly set up the train track and kept winding up the train! The make your own cracker kit was spectacularly well timed too - since I was unwell on the weekend, I didn't get into town for the last few bits, and was a bit disappointed we therefore had no crackers. DD leapt on them and loved colouring them in and sticking the stickers all over the paper hats. I snuck them into the kitchen to put a little chocolate snowball thing in each one so DD was extra surprised when we pulled them all at lunch! It was fab that we had crackers after all, thanks to you smile thanks

My parents visited today and I told them all about the MN appeal... the first thing my dad said was that we should write to Matthew Wright about it to show we aren't a nest of vipers wink

CharlotteCollinsislost Wed 26-Dec-12 20:56:19

Dear SS032 (I think),

Thank you so much for all the lovely goodies. I thanked you when the parcel arrived, and today I opened it. Yesterday was a good day, but my h has a habit of sucking the joy out of things that are important to me, so I saved it to open with just the dcs today. What lovely things. They made me feel special. smile The kids love that movie, which they've seen once, so they're delighted to have their own copy. And we had fun with the game - it's just right for us all, lots of fun.

Thank you again for your kindness to a stranger.

JugsMcGee Wed 26-Dec-12 21:41:24

MN202 - there were more donations, than nominations so some lucky people got more than one gift. I had to double check my email when I saw you post on the first thread!

JugsMcGee Wed 26-Dec-12 21:42:37

Did you think I was trying to say I'd sent the present you sent? confused

MN023thankyou Wed 26-Dec-12 22:35:17

Dear ssmno23 I was so overwhelmed by your kindness in sending us such a huge box of goodies and presents smile Everybody was thrilled as I knew they would be with the gifts you sent especially me grin to recieve a present I havent had to drop hints and pay for is amazing. They were so well chosen as if you know us. Let me know if you do and I will thank you in rl!

Sorry for the delay in replying, we have had a lot of trouble with our broadband but as you know I asked my sister to write to you. She was wishing the parcel had gone to her house smile

As the poster above said, thank you so much for helping us out especially as we are strangers thanks

I hope you had a Happy Christmas and someone gave you nice presents too xxxx

SecretSantaMN202 Wed 26-Dec-12 23:52:11

Oh no JugsMcGee, hadn't crossed my mind to think that you were saying you'd sent the gift that I had!
I was under the impression that each sender had a different number; so one recipient might receive from MN202 and MN123. Evidently I was wrong <although I'm not clear on how that would work, luckily I'm not in charge!>. Sorry blush.

imdreamingofaskyebluechristmas Thu 27-Dec-12 00:51:39

I think the number refers to the recipient, so therefore could easily get more than one Santa with the same number

JugsMcGee Thu 27-Dec-12 09:56:28

Oh good! For a second there I was worried! I should've asked for a brain for Christmas blush

SecretSantaMN202 Thu 27-Dec-12 11:33:02

No, it's definitely me who should have asked for a brain blush.

In my, quite dense, brain I was sure that it made sense for the Santas to have different numbers so the recipients could let them know that specific parcels had arrived.

WorraLorraTurkey Thu 27-Dec-12 12:11:44

newbielisa, MN216 here again. Thank you so much for the lovely build it yourself air powered car! It was perfect for my DS and he says to thank you too...he absolutely loves it! grin

Happy New Year and thank you again flowers

LightHousekeeping Thu 27-Dec-12 17:30:07

Is there a way to find our whether gifts actually arrived?

Stitchthis Thu 27-Dec-12 18:38:59

If you know your secret Santa number, you could say so here. Then maybe your Mumsnet recipient will get in touch.

MN102 Thu 27-Dec-12 18:40:12

I just wanted to say yet another huge THANK YOU to my secret santa's for the presents just for me.

The booze has been drunk, the chocolates munched, the photo frames have pictures in and the smelly stuff is ready and waiting for a quiet bath. You are both lovely, lovely people to have been so generous to me and my children, so thank you again.

I hope your Christmas was wonderful as you both deserved it to be.

DutchOmainthestable Thu 27-Dec-12 20:13:57

Through circumstances no presents got opened till today. I am absolutely stunned by the generosity of my MN057 giver. The beautiful scarf and the earring and pendant set, just lovely, but the Asda token as well.... Thank you, thank you, thank you.

CakathecorpulentChristmasElf Thu 27-Dec-12 20:32:21

To Delta Code MN091

Thanks for your two lovely messages. Great to know the parcel arrived OK and that your dc liked the presents!!! (Can't take credit for your bag though - that must be some other (most likely slimmer grin) Christmas elf!!) Really, really great to hear that the presents helped to make your Christmas a happy one but you sound like such a great mum that you were evidently doing that all by yourself anyway! Wishing you and your family all the very best for 2013!!

To Scarlet Code MN168
Thanks for your lovely message. Relieved the parcel arrived OK but a bit worried about whether you will like the contents or not as they are very er, specific. (This is the first year I have done any Secret Santas and I wasn't sure how the system worked, so present was bought before I knew how presents and recipients were chosen!) Here's hoping the kind elves at Mumsnet Towers knew that contents were appropriate for you!! Hope you had a great Christmas and wishing you all the very best for 2013!

SantaFlashesHisBoobsALot Thu 27-Dec-12 21:37:37

203 Phew, I am so glad it got there okay, was worrying the entire time I was away!!

Hope you (and everyone else) had a very merry Christmas.

MN203 Thu 27-Dec-12 22:54:21

Hi SantaFlashes, I have just returned home too grin. Just wanted to add - it was so exciting for the kids and me, opening our lovely gifts on the big day. The dcs were enchanted by the whole idea of being mysterious DS and DD smile and they really loved their presents - DS painted his elephant today and it looks gorgeous. I loved my biscuits, jams, chocs and smellies and I really, really appreciate your lovely and unexpected gifts - can't believe how lucky we've been smile I hope you and your family had a great Christmas. xx

SantaFlashesHisBoobsALot Thu 27-Dec-12 23:45:56

Ah that has made my night smile I was blessed enough to receive a gift last year, and I loved being able to send something back this time around. Buying presents for complete strangers made me feel all festive grin I really hope 2013 is kinder to you than 2012. Love to you all. x

Feeling sad for those still waiting, I don't know if my parcel is still one of those as yet undelivered. If you are in kingston upon thames please let me know so I can chase it up with post office!

Hello secret santas - I just wanted to come on here are say an extra big thank you for the gifts. This Christmas was pretty special because for the first time ever, 13 year old DS1 understood about opening presents (warning - that links to a blog but does describe out Xmas day). What I hint at in there is that I hadn't actually wrapped much for him, but having developed an understanding of presents he was really keen to open the secret Santa ones. He loved them as well. You really did contribute to an extra special Christmas (even if Arthur did die smile )

it's awkward isn't it? i feel like some awful ingrate wondering where my gift is but it's actually that i don't like the idea of someone having spent money and sent stuff only for it to not get here. my ss hasn't appeared on these threads.

if they are lurking and just didn't manage to send it then please don't worry.

wish there was some way of mnhq checking for ss's/recipients whether the other has sent/received parcels.

LightHousekeeping Fri 28-Dec-12 19:03:31

Mine was 211. It wasn't much but I do hope it arrived. Posted on the 12th.

If ss186 is around and wondering...nothing from my postie...

SS206 Fri 28-Dec-12 21:15:12

Hello UA. Soooo sorry I have"t been on sooner to say how pleased we are that you liked our gifts - rl and all that, I haven't had a chance to get onto my laptop to name-change.

When I say 'we', I mean DP and I, coz he has had just as much input into this as I have (though I was the one who went to the shops and the post officewink). He found the easel ages ago and got one for our DD and another for a friend of her's birthday present, so we already knew it might work for someone in a hospital bed. The bottles were again thinking of you making impromptu overnight stays in hospital. And as for the rest, I luff Lush and want to educate the world, which is why you got that thatgrin.

I hope next year turns out better for you all. Much love and all our thoughts...

Here too. SS069 have you got your gifts yet? Please let us know sad

LightHousekeeping Sat 29-Dec-12 01:11:56

There should've been as easier way to check. I hate the way it makes me feel when all I really want to know is if they got there or if I should be going to the post office and chasing it up.

How do you know what your SS no is? I'm sure I was only given a no for the recipient confused

LightHousekeeping Sat 29-Dec-12 01:27:53

I think that's the only number you need

HecateQueenofWitches Sat 29-Dec-12 09:16:19

I know. It could be people have gone away, have no internet access, or there's a personal problem etc.

But you can't settle until you know that what you sent was received. By the person who was intended to receive it!

In my case, it was signed for well before christmas. Since the recipient hasn't said so (even if she bloody HATES it and intends to ebay it! grin ) I am of course worried that royal mail dumped it in a bin and faked her signature, or a neighbour took it and she's got no clue, etc.

membershipcard Sat 29-Dec-12 09:24:53

I thought there was that the same number was given to both, so the receiver is known as MNnumber and the sender as SSnumber.

I posted mine 2 weeks before Christmas, the MNer hasn't posted to say if it has/has not been received.

MulledwineGless Sat 29-Dec-12 09:27:33

I have emailed MNHQ about this - will update if I receive a response

Will give some clues....
Postcode starts with UB
2 children, boy 7 and girl 4.

Feel like a detective grin

PavlovtheCat Sat 29-Dec-12 10:49:59

I did not know my number, until the item arrived with it marked on it.
Just in case you have not seen my posts earlier, I had lovely gifts from MN150!

Spartak Sat 29-Dec-12 11:25:40

I've not heard from the person i've sent to either. It was tracked and signed for although the signature was not readable. Its insured as part of the tracking fee so if it had gone missing I would be able to claim and send again.

Maybe next year the SS could email MNHQ when the parcel sent, recepients could email when received, so any discrepancy could be chased up.

I'd hate to think that the person I sent to thought I couldn't be bothered.

MN 051 I'm starting to get a bit sad now. If you can't remember your no, here's some clues - you live in the NE and have 6 kids, 2 of whom still live with you.

If the parcel hasn't arrived yet, please post on here so I can chase it up (I got proof of postage at least)

I think next year I'll buy something smaller so I can afford to send it by registered post.

At what point do we ask MNHQ to chase up email our sendees?

"It would be handy if we knew our SS numbers, then we could come on here, and hopefully the donors would see our posts."

Can anyone tell me for certain if the SS no is the same as the MN no?

Okay, getting a bit obsessed now. Stepping way...

Stitchthis Sat 29-Dec-12 12:27:02

hecat any more clues?

MrsDeVere Sat 29-Dec-12 12:29:53

I haven't heard either.
Maybe the recipient was a regular but is now not on MN much? Maybe they haven't seen the thread?
I really hope they got their stuff though. I would be sad if they didnt.

Spartak Sat 29-Dec-12 12:34:19

Would it be possible for MNHQ to send out an email to all who were nominated reminding them of this thread?

HecateQueenofWitches Sat 29-Dec-12 12:39:04

boys are 7 and 9

Don't want to put location as don't want to risk outing someone.

I would imagine that they have just gone to family for christmas or something, it's just that it has been signed for and until they confirm that it was them and not some dodgy neighbour who's kept it, I won't be able to rest grin

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 29-Dec-12 13:55:50

Hello. Just a quick post to thank everyone once again for your kindness and generosity.

We can see that there are some people on this thread who are worrying that the parcel they have sent has not arrived or has not been acknowledged.

We do understand but we would also ask you all to be patient a while longer.

We know, from previous Christmas Appeals, that some parcels do take an age to get to their intended recipient - often because they've been taken to a sorting office and haven't been picked up yet.

We also know that many of the recipients of parcels (the MNers who've been nominated) are going through all sorts of horrible/upsetting/difficult stuff in their life and, if you're in that sort of situation, it's not always easy to find the time/opportunity to come on this thread and post a word of thanks.

It's lovely that so many nominees do manage to post their thank you but we do hope that folks understand it's not compulsory and not a condition of being nominated.

We're sure the vast vast majority of parcels have been (or will be) received with huge gratitude - whether that's reflected on this thread or not.

And if you're one of the very few donators who haven't yet had a thank you, please take comfort from the fact that everyone here at MNHQ (and, we're sure, other MNers round the country who are reading this thread) is stunned by your goodwill and generosity and thinks you're wonderful.

We know it's not the same as a thank you from your recipient but we hope it'll make you feel all nice and fuzzy round the festive edges this Christmas.

HecateQueenofWitches Sat 29-Dec-12 14:08:38

It's not about a thank you, please don't think anyone is sitting here like lady bountiful and demanding thanks grin. It's about really worrying that someone thinks they weren't bothered with, when you did actually send them something.

I would hate to think someone was sitting there, after having been told by mn that they had been nominated, and nothing came, and they felt they couldn't possibly say anything because it would seem grabby - when they HAD been sent something but it had been lost in the post/signed for by a neighbour and kept/shoved under a box by a postman/returned to the depot and waiting there

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf Sat 29-Dec-12 14:37:57

Also, adding to what hec said. If something has been lost by the Royal Mail, yu have some recompense with them. Up to £40 for standard postage and more if its signed for. Which some of the missing parcels here have been sent using.

If a parcels hasn't been relieved surely the sender should be able to make a claim against the loss?

ThePlEWhoLovedMe Sat 29-Dec-12 14:38:29

Indeed Hecate.

I have not yet confirmation that my gift was received, however last year the same thing happened but given time my recipient was able to come and let me know it was received and liked .... so I have not given up hope completely yet.

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 29-Dec-12 17:01:58

Yes, we appreciate that. And we have been in touch with some nominated folks who haven't received their parcel yet to more or less say the same thing: please be patient; we're sure it'll turn up.

If it helps, we know from previous years that the mismatch between sent parcels and posted thanks is not - in the main - because parcels go missing. It's nearly always either a gone-back-to-thesorting-office/depot sitch or just the recipient simply not having had the time or the opportunity to post to say it's arrived.

i take some reassurance from that mnhq smile my worry was that i didn't want to think that my sender thought i couldn't be bothered to say thank you for something that hadn't actually arrived - and also i don't like the idea of the post office getting away with 'losing' parcels.

we'll all have to see what next weeks brings - i know i've had christmas cards in early january before that people swear they sent weeks ago.

KnottyLocks Sat 29-Dec-12 17:47:01

I'm back from a place where 3G and internet barely exist, hence the delay in posting my thanks.

Alibaba! You are a very lovely and generous elf, if rather naughty grin

The boys loved their gifts, thank you. The eldest is a sciencey bod and the little one just loves puzzles so just perfect for them. Smellies for me - gorgeous and the only ones I had this Christmas. I smell divine. Just need to work on my looks now grin

Then I spotted the gift cards, hence you being a naughty elf!
So very generous of you. The Amazon Wish list is being pondered over tonight!
The foodie one will buy delicious treats for New Year and a few lovely bits and bobs. Very exciting.

We shall certainly be raising a glass to your good health and happiness, that of all the other wonderful Secret Santas and nominators, and MNHQ for making all this happen. wine wine wine

Thank you so very, very much. Bless you. smile

mn014 Sat 29-Dec-12 18:03:36

hi, I think I know who my 3 SS are, I can see they have been posting wondering what's going on so I'm on to say that still only one has arrived. Don't know if the sorting office is open on Monday (new years eve) but I might go down and ask if they have anything. I'm near Glasgow if that helps ID me

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 29-Dec-12 19:05:12

Knotty you are so very welcome grin

I'm glad the boys liked their things, mine are a bit younger so I wasn't on totally familiar ground!

A Happy New Year to you and your family smile

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas Sat 29-Dec-12 21:14:33

Hello, sorry I'm late getting here blush

My envelope arrived weeks ago, but i thought I'd save it for Christmas day, knowing my dh and his marvellous attempts at presents and that it'd be a looong day with family to entertain on top of 3 children 2 and under grin

I'm so touched and happy with the Amazon gift voucher and message, thank you so much. I'm not half as deserving as most people on the thread, but it has been a stressful, busy and hard year this year. In fact, in hindsight I wonder why I wasn't more worried about how I'd cope with a toddler and twins with an 18 month age gap. So just to be nominated, and then to receive a lovely card and message from a generous mn-er is wonderful. It certainly cheered me up and I hope next year I will be a donater to give back and make someone else's Christmas. smile

So thank you to my secret Santa, and i was mn055 thanks

MrsY Sat 29-Dec-12 22:56:49

To MNSanta131 -

Firstly a huge apology for not thanking you sooner - the last few weeks have been stupidly busy + very difficult emotionally.

The presents were all fab, thank you so much. You obviously put a lot of thought into them all. My daughter loves all her bits - she's always drawing and she cannot wait to do some cooking (once we've unpacked the kitchen stuff)! Needless to say, the chocolate coins went down very well smile

The candle is lovely, and the tree decoration is very sweet, it's lovely to hang something on the tree for our son.

This Christmas was the worst we've ever had, and there was a huge hole where our son should have been, but we lit the candle and it was nice to know he had some presents as well.

Thank you too to the MNteam for organising this. Anda big thanks also to whoever nominated me. I certainly don't feel I deserved it (I am really just a lurker) but I am very touched that someone thought of me and my family.

MrsY xxx

i'm so sorry for your loss mrsY. christmas can't have been easy.

CharlotteCollinsislost Sat 29-Dec-12 23:31:34

So MN032, I have finally found time to open the presents you sent! I had to do it on my own, or risk the whole thing being tarnished by sarcastic comments and the like.

I am overcome by your generosity and all those lovely things! I really can't believe it. MN has helped me so much in facing up to being in an abusive marriage - and now this is the icing on the cake, really. I'm planning to leave my H (he doesn't know yet) as soon as I can, and start again in a small house with my dcs. Your presents will be little treasures in that house to help me start to feel better about the world around me and myself (it's a good world; I'm a good person!).

Truly, it means so much to me. Thank you.

MrsY Sat 29-Dec-12 23:55:49

Thanks swallowedAfly, it was pretty shitty, but we knew it would be.

CheerfulYank Sun 30-Dec-12 05:12:53

Oh, so happy I found this! I lost the number sad but someone sent me a lovely card AND an Amazon voucher AND tea AND some robots for my son! It was so so lovely of you and we liked everything so much. DS is keeping the tin bus the tea came in for a bank. He also brought it to preschool for Show and Tell Time and the teacher had him show the class where England is on the map. DS was quite pleased with himself. smile

Thank you, thank you! I really hope you see this, whoever you are! thanks

CheerfulYank Sun 30-Dec-12 05:19:25

It might be 033? Whoever you are, it got here in plenty of time for Christmas and we loved it. smile

MrsY Sun 30-Dec-12 09:37:32

CheerfulYank, I hadn't known to look for a number, but when I saw this thread I asked MNHQ to check what number I was.

SecretSanta033 Sun 30-Dec-12 09:46:16

I'm so glad the parcel arrived and you liked the gifts, CheerfulYank! It was quite exciting sending it off at the post office and imagining it winging its way across the Atlantic.

How nice that your DS took the Routemaster money box in for Show and Tell - I always remember Show and Tell from American children's books so it's lovely to hear they still do it.

SecretSantaMN164 Sun 30-Dec-12 10:01:08

Saintly - I'm so glad you liked the gifts - and that DS1 enjoyed unwrapping his presents this year smile. It was lovely to read about your day on your blog. Happy New Year!

MrsY Sun 30-Dec-12 13:47:29

Thank you, MNSS131. I'm really sorry it took me until now to thank you, and please apologise to your DH from me. Oh, and sorry for the postcode issue, that's what comes of staying in one house as you move from your old house into a new one.

She's busy telling my mum about the rocking bread on the tree! and planning what goodies to make now I've unpacked some more boxes.

I'm really touched. x

simpson Sun 30-Dec-12 23:04:21

Thank you very much MN175 sorry it's taken so long to respond (your parcel arrived safely on 23rd) but have been without Internet access sad

DS loved his books (he opened them on Xmas eve after his bath) and has been making paper aeroplanes constantly grin

DD also opened hers on Xmas eve and loved her books too....

A massive thank you from the Simpson household....

I will definately be spending what you sent on myself, thank you thanks

I have popped a thank you card on the post smile

BTW the kids loved the reindeer dust and it was used on Xmas eve smile

MN187 here.

Back after the xmas opening spree. I've not been back sooner as I've been trying to find the right words to express how incredibly grateful, humbled and just, well, shocked we were at the thoughfulness and generosity of our nominator, senders and the organisers of the whole appeal.

PigeonS DD's hat was the loveliest lovelist thing, well, EVER. I will try to get a picture of DD in it so you can show your DD, we both love it, thank you smile

And all the other gifts, in both parcels, too many to mention, the post office that is a great hit already, the ladybird book that matched one we'd bought DD from the same series, the fisher price phone that me and DP remember from our childhood and brought big smiles all round, the chocolates (even though bloody Muddy Dog pinched them and enjoyed rather too many than can be good for her when I wasn't looking last night!), the vouchers that I still don't know where to begin spending. I'm contemplating getting some wool off amazon to make an Attic24 blanket for DD as a bit of a (hopefully, anyway!) heirloom with a story behind it. I don't want to go on and on as it almost feels like bragging?!

I have a horrible feeling I went a bit mad in the post xmas clear up and may have tidyed one of your addresses so bear with me, thank you cards WILL be on the way, I may just have to sort the recycling bin first!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't know what else I can say? thanks

fuzzpig Mon 31-Dec-12 09:19:43

Gonerogue if you're still around I just wanted to say my DCs opened their gifts from you! I managed to get some wrapping paper after work and they opened them when DSDs arrived for their '2nd Xmas' yesterday smile

They really are fantastic - DS loves his little farm vehicles, he is mad about anything with wheels! The knex cat caused much hilarity too.

DD was most impressed by the writing kit - she's never had a lockable diary before! She has already written lots in it. It's perfect timing - her reading and writing have really taken off recently and having lovely things to write with is adding to her enthusiasm to practise. And she was over the moon with the mini lalaloopsy dolls - I think some of her school friends must have them as she's never seen an ad for them, but she opened them and squealed "how did they know I wanted a lalaloopsy?!" grin she took them to bed with her too.

Thank you so much smile thanks mn072 xx

MsVelvet Mon 31-Dec-12 12:00:19

Hi, i have just been linked to this thread, i was nominated ages ago, filled in my requested information and then nothing, i was quite excited but feeling a little meh about it now, have i been forgotten sad or did they change their mind, not quite sure how it all works or whatever, but i don't know what else to do, not received any thing from the post office, or anything at all. Did send a message to MNHQ a few days or so ago, but not got a reply from that either. Thanks for any help smile

BellaVita Mon 31-Dec-12 13:22:44

katemiddy, and there are also people on here who haven't been thanked either for sending a gift.

I am a little shock at your post. You do not know the reasonings behind late postings etc, so please hoik your judgy pants in.

HappyNewSkyebluesapphire Mon 31-Dec-12 13:24:02

katemiddy - I have no idea if my gift arrived or not, I have not seen a thank you on here. The nominees dont know their numbers until the gift arrives...

MNHQ puts a lot of work and effort into this. Have you contacted them to look into it? Your Secret Santa could have sent something and be unaware, or it could still be in the post to you.

Im sorry, but you do sound ungrateful. I understand it is probably disappointing, but there could be a very good reason why you have not received something yet.

Contact MNHQ and ask them to contact your Secret Santa, before you put miserable comments on this wonderful thread.

BellaVita Mon 31-Dec-12 13:31:02

After thinking about it, I actually find your post offensive.

I was a donator. It could have been me that was not able to send something. Shall I tell you why? My DH had a routine operation on the 13th Dec and had to be readmitted a couple of days later to hospital with complications. He IS STILL THERE! I work, had a poorly son off school - my other DS and I had to do his morning paper round before work and school and still find time to fit
DH in. I also hosted Xmas too as food had already been ordered/bought. DH has been to theatre 4 times since the 13th Dec.

Luckily I had an Xmas shopping day from work before all of this happened and managed to buy my gifts for my mumsnetter then and get them posted.

MsVelvet Mon 31-Dec-12 13:36:55

BellaVita you sound like you have had a right old time of it, hope things are getting better now for you

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Mon 31-Dec-12 13:43:21

I'm sorry the Secret Santa idea hasn't worked out well for you katemiddy and has maybe left you feeling disappointed, and even more sorry that you've had such a bad year.

However I think you really can't split people tidily into those in need (to be nominees/recipients) and those completely happy, rich, and capable people to be the donators of presents. Some people who volunteered to give something may have some problems of their own. You say "there's really no excuse" whereas I think actually there could be hundreds of excuses, some of which you'd probably find very valid, others much more everyday such as yes, things got a bit busy before Christmas, or I was getting a bit stressed about it all and left things a bit late this year.

I was a late poster for which I do apologise to all, especially my dear recipient. I'm hoping my parcel may have arrived by now, or surely will do soon ?
I wish I'd put more in it now too as it's only a little something.
Hoping those still waiting for something could see it as a little token to hopefully welcome in a brighter New Year for all x

Dysgu Mon 31-Dec-12 13:47:30

I too am rather sad at reading the post from katemiddy and it even crossed my mind that perhaps I would not volunteer to donate next year if this is the kind of response.

DP posted our parcel a couple of weeks before Christmas after I had spent time with our two DDs choosing the gifts to enclose, wrapping the gifts, putting in a few extra bits and pieces and a gift and voucher for the MNer of the house.

I check back here fairly regularly to see if someone has said that the parcel arrived but there has been nothing. I hope the parcel did arrive and that it made a small difference to the festivities in the recipient's house.

However, should it not have arrived, I did find myself thinking that I hope katemiddy is not my recipient and I feel bad for having that thought. This is the third year that we have donated and, whilst this has not always been an easy year for us and we hardly have a lot of spare, we have always told our DDs (now 6 and 4) that we do this to help a family having a tougher time of things than us. We donate with every good intention and I will not be mentioning to DDs that some recipients feel so negative about the whole thing.

GlaikitFizzHogmany Mon 31-Dec-12 13:57:09

Katemiddy, if you read through the thread there are many donators who have no had any acknowledgement that their parcel has been received. So before you start bumping your gums about "better off busy people" and yr own disappointment consider for one moment that your parcel is one of the ones in transit.

And from a personal point of view, yes I'm busy, yes I may be in better circumstances than some people but my life isn't a bed of roses. For you to assume otherwise is narrow minded. Also if I had nominated you, I would be embarrassed that you come here and bash the donators just because you haven't received your gift yet. Have y ever heard its the thought that counts? Someone out there thinks you were deserving enough to receive a gift. Whether or not you have received it yet is by the by.

It's the season of good will. Maybe email sandy and ask her to follow up your SS. Rather than bring down the spirit of this thread.

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 31-Dec-12 14:05:16

We have deleted katemiddy's post because we don't think it's really on to attack other Mumsnetters for their lack of generosity - particularly on this thread.

If you contact us, katemiddy, we'll be happy to do what we can. But we can see that you've already received one parcel, so we do hope that will spread a bit of a warm glow.

And, just as a general note to all: we do appreciate that it's disappointing to know you've been nominated and then not to have received anything (yet) and that's it's also disappointing to have sent a parcel and then not to have had any thanks/acknowledgement (yet).

But we do want to stress that the Appeal is run entirely on goodwill and kindness. And, despite best intentions, things may inevitably go awry.

Donors may find they're no longer able to send a parcel (though most of those are kind enough to let us at MNHQ know, so we can try to make other arrangements) and recipients may be unable (for all sorts of reasons) to post their thanks/acknowledgement.

We do think it's important that everyone who takes part in the Appeal - either as a donor or as a recipient or both - does so with no expectations. We'd hope that donors would be happy to give, even if their giving might, sadly, not be acknowledged, and recipients would be happy to have been nominated by a fellow Mumsnetter, even if, sadly, their gift never arrives.

This is a truly lovely thing that so many MNers do for each other at this time of year. But, in an operation of such a huge nature, there will always be the odd thing that doesn't quite go right.

It would be such a shame for the overall wonderfulness of the Appeal to be undermined by the odd little cock-up.

GlaikitFizzHogmany Mon 31-Dec-12 14:16:35

Thank you Helen, wine have a good one!

Dear Helen and all at HQ,

Being nominated and then receiving beautifully thought-out gifts from WillYuleDoTheFandango and SantaFlashes has totally made my Christmas.

Thank you to MNHQ, all the organisers, my kind nominator and of course, very particularly to my lovely donators.

As Helen says, it's the spirit of goodwill that makes this SS scheme special, along with the lovely gifts smile.

Thank you xxxxxx thanks wine brew [choc]

HappyNewSkyebluesapphire Mon 31-Dec-12 14:37:44

Thank you MN for deleting that comment. I hope that everybody receives their presents. Like you say, there may still be some in transit, or peoples circumstances have been such that they have not been able to post.

I donated, I nominated and I was nominated. I thought that SS was a wonderful idea and tried to spread the word as much as possible.

It was lovely just to be nominated and I would not have minded if nothing had turned up. As it was, MN176 sent two lovely items for my DD, which she has had great fun playing with.

I intend to nominate and donate again next year and I hope that you carry on with this wonderful idea.

BellaVita Mon 31-Dec-12 14:41:05

Well boo hoo for katemiddy only getting one parcel.

wavesgoodbye Mon 31-Dec-12 14:56:20

I'm a bit cross now tbh.

I donated, I am not wealthy in fact we are struggling, living in a one bed flat with my dc after being made homeless and on a very low income but people on mumsnet really helped me on a practical level and some lovely person sent clothes for dd and i wanted to help someone else.

I had sold some things on eBay to fund Christmas had a small amount left.

My dd got gifts from only myself and my parents, she has no one else. Her gifts were second hand, if it hadn't been for my parents she would have had not much. My gift to dd was £30 that was her main gift from me.

My parcel hasn't arrived as my nominee has posted so, i sent it a week before Christmas and apologised for this. I couldn't post till then as i was waiting to have enough money to post it, i was told it would get there in time. Again i felt awful and would as i have said sent something else. I also didnt post until then as dd was in and out of hospital having brain scans and such.

So im very upset at reading that im a wealthy too busy person.

Me and my dc have £68 to pay for food and electricity until i get paid on the 18th of this month so i am far from wealthy!

Thank you Helen x

I am going to tape my gob up now blush

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Mon 31-Dec-12 15:04:04

That was so good of you to be a donater this year waves

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

I do like to give something to others at Christmas.
We always do the Christmas shoe-box appeal too, with the DC's.

Even when you have fairly little yourself it gives some perspective and meaning to the season I feel to give something to others.

didn't read what kate said but sounds bad.

honestly i don't think people should donate unless they can afford to do so and are aware they may not receive a thank you and people who are nominated should accept it doesn't mean it's set in stone you'll get something.

things have gotten daft on here from both sides.

i actually wonder if a thank you thread is a good idea after reading this.

CheerfulYank Mon 31-Dec-12 15:11:58

Well if that's the only negative comment I think a thank you thread is still a lovely idea. smile

I knew I'd been nominated but didn't know that meant I was definitely going to get something, so it was such a lovely surprise. (Thanks again 033 smile ) I wasn't sure how to thank my SS so finding this thread was great!

I don't think we should let one nasty/frustrated comment ruin a lovely idea and thread.

MrsDeVere Mon 31-Dec-12 15:28:23

A Blimey from me too!

I sent a modest parcel. I wanted to be involved but asked MNHQ to perhaps double me up with someone who could offer a bit more. I didn't want someone getting a raw deal because I couldn't afford much.

I have not seen my recipient on here. It would be nice to know if my parcels got there but I don't need a thank you. Its not always easy for people to say thank you. Some people do not have regular access to the internet and life can take priority over coming on MN <wash my mouth out!>

I hope my parcels got there, I hope they bought a bit of good cheer. Thats it really.

wavesgoodbye Mon 31-Dec-12 15:38:13

I understand what you mean about if you can't afford to donate but i already had a lovely gift a friend had sent for dds birthday that was too young for her so I sent that and used the ebay money to pad it out slightly for the mum , it wasn't a lot but I thought it might cheer someone up.

I did this as when I went through a really bad time I had lots of messages of support and help from Mumsneters and like i said dd received a package with basics we desperately needed. They also offered to pay for dds school trip but I didnt want to accept.

Things aren't quite as bad as then although still pretty grim and I wanted dd to know how great Mumsnet was and pay that kindness back.

Lighthousekeeping Mon 31-Dec-12 18:24:49

Mine lives in Fareham. I posted it weeks ago. I'm not bothered about a thank you. After reading this thread initially I did think that I hadn't sent enough. I don't know my recipients personal circumstances, some of you seem to but all I got was the age and sex of the child. Was that the same for everyone? All I need to know is do I have to chase the post office up for this? I don't seek gratitude btw.

HecatePropolos Mon 31-Dec-12 19:41:26

It isn't about thank you. I don't know why it keeps coming back to it being that people want thanks. That's baffling.

I didn't see katemiddy's post before it went poof and think I'm probably glad.

Bit worried I'd posted just before about receiving more than one parcel, I hope it didn't come across as gloating sad I didn't expect to receive one parcel, I didn't expect to receive any! I still don't know why I was nominated, I don't think I was in all honestly, I can only come to the assumption it was probably DD being poorly which is hardly something I would wish one anyone.

I without a doubt will donate next year, if our financial situation is similar to this year it won't be a grand gesture but for me personally it truley was the thought that went into those gifts and nominations. I could have received an unwashed hole-y sock and still have had a little cry I think.

And yes sometimes royal mail et al cock up and things disappear into a black hole somewhere, it's still no reason to be so bloody ungrateful.

There really is no pleasing some people.

BellaVita Mon 31-Dec-12 19:55:09

Lighthouse - that is the same info I had too.

wavesgoodbye Mon 31-Dec-12 20:11:28

I got quite a lot of info on dc age, what the dc liked, family situation, why they had a rough year.
I guess it depends on what info the person felt comfortable to give.

Agree I didnt want thanks from anyone, just to make someones Christmas a little better.

I actually searched and that was katemiddys only post so now I don't know if person was for real, why would you chose a name hangs just to attack people trying to do something kind.

Or maybe I just don't want to think someone would be so nasty especially when they had received one gift already.

BellaVita Mon 31-Dec-12 20:30:44

She said she had namechanged because she knew she would get a pelting so she didn't want to post in her real MN name.

GlaikitFizzHogmany Mon 31-Dec-12 20:46:45

However mnhq must have been able to see who she is really because they said she had already posted saying she had received one parcel. Make of that what you will!

LadyMaryChristmas Mon 31-Dec-12 21:07:03

The size of the gift doesn't matter. All that matters is that it was sent with love, care or gratitude. Don't allow one person to destroy the meaning of the Christmas Appeal. It must bring so much happiness to other mumsnetters, we're not all like this. thanks

wavesgoodbye Mon 31-Dec-12 21:08:38

I know Glaik and based on that it makes me think its the person I sent to which makes me feel like utter shit.

BellaVita Mon 31-Dec-12 21:20:28

Please don't feel like that.

OComeAllYeFaithBaby Mon 31-Dec-12 21:24:47

Ok so MN088 recipient here! NC for Christmas but a similar variation of this name. I have opened my gift(s) and want to say a big THANK YOU! Both to the mystery person who nominated me and to BiscuitNibbler for the gifts. Seriously, it's as if you know me! The slippers are lovely and my shoe size! I already wear the Just Pink fragrance so getting the set is wonderful. I've been after gloves just like the ones you sent and never got round to them. The chocolates, erm, disappeared?! So, so luffly to be a recipient in this - I didn't even know it existed. I'm chuffed to bits that someone felt it appropriate to nominate me and delighted with the gifts so thanks! thanks

Lighthousekeeping i think you may have been my secret santa 211?? If so your gifts were gratefully received, I did post a thank you on the old thread but didn't namechange so you may not have seen. Just checked I posted on 19/12/12 at 20.09. I am mortified that you have been worried.

I hadn't clicked in to this thread since, don't know what made me tonight but I did and Fareham jumped out at me!

Please please rest assured your gifts were so lovely and a really fab pre christmas boost. I hope you had a lovely Christmas and a happy new year thanks

BiscuitNibbler Mon 31-Dec-12 22:15:19

OCome I'm so pleased the gifts suit. smile

I hope you have a fantastic 2013 and best of luck in April! My DD is an April girl so I will be thinking about you on her birthday.

CheerfulYank Mon 31-Dec-12 22:29:21

Oh waves, do not feel like that. It was lovely of you to donate and brighten someone's Christmas! smile

wavesgoodbye Mon 31-Dec-12 22:44:43

If its any consolation to katemiddy I won a mumsnet competition in October and was asked by the company to chose what I wanted, I picked stuff to fill dds Christmas out a bit as she had nothing hardly from me but they didnt post until the Friday before Christmas and that too is stuck in post somewhere.

So if its any consolation between that and her father and the brain scans dds had a pretty crap Christmas too.

MulledwineGless Mon 31-Dec-12 23:14:46

Possessions rather than time and emotional effort. You have done a fantastic, generous thing, please don't forget that

Recipient182 Tue 01-Jan-13 00:39:03

Hello. I am Recipient 182 and want to wish my SS a very happy new year.

Our year has been the most challenging year of my life and has cost us emotionally and financially. Sadly, whilst going through our own crisis my Uncle also passed away just before Christmas and so I wanted to invite my adult cousins and aunt for Christmas to make it a bit 'different'. I suspect the posh chocolates you sent were for me but I can't tell you how good it made me feel to use them to make up some stockings for our visitors.

The presents for our children were spot on and dd in particular has been wearing the socks EVERY day since Christmas. So thank you for your generosity and for making our modest pile under the tree a less modest pile and convincing my kids that they must be very good and special.

Recipient182 Tue 01-Jan-13 00:45:48

Incidentally, wrt the recent posts on this thread, I received my parcel on Christmas Eve. I had known for some time I had been nominated and I was overwhelmed. That was enough. The actual gift was a delightful bonus.

ss76 Tue 01-Jan-13 00:46:08

Hello GetOnYourDancingShoes.

I'm glad you came onto this thread - it's so lovely to meet you, I really did wonder and wonder who you might be.

I hope you had a lovely Christmas and are about to step into a wonderful New Year.

Much love to you. xx

And MumsnetHQ - for everything. One day, a crater on the moon will be named for you all. Or perhaps a rose. Or a particularly effective new wine.
Whatever ... you are all fab.

As are all of you lot for taking part in this: those that have touched other people, and connected, those that have responded. the listeners, the talkers, the people who do things, and those that share. All of you making up what mumsnet is best at. Happy New YEar to all of you. xx

SecretElf098 Tue 01-Jan-13 01:04:25

To Recipient 098,

I hope the clothes came in useful. I'm sorry it wasn't more but it was what I offered when MNHQ asked us to say what we could offer.

Wishing you a very happy new year!!

waves she's not the only one whose had one parcel already so don't assume she's your recipient.

also whilst i didn't read the offending post for all we know the person is having a totally shit time and their head is in a mess and it lashed out towards this stuff rather than the real stuf itms? it reflects on the state of their head rather than the secret santa business i reckon.

do you know whether it's a dyson hoover or a packet of wipes it's always really nice getting something that says, 'to the mumsnetter of the house' grin i don't think it's just me is it? something lovely about seeing your presence here manifest into real life and something coming just for you.

SantaMN108 Tue 01-Jan-13 15:37:45

ladymarychristmas - I doubt this is in any way still on your ThreadsImOn, but just in case, I think I'm your Santa108 who send the card for the wine. I'm so pleased it got there in time!

Happy New Year! smile

PavlovtheCat Tue 01-Jan-13 16:25:05

swallowed you are so right! I was excited regardless of the content of my parcel, just because I got to take a parcel from the postie with 'To the Mumsnetter of the House'! and everyone who saw it under the tree going 'oooh!' the contents were fab, and the Hungry Hippos set has been played more than most of the other toys bought, but whatever it had inside, the parcel itself was exciting! (I did not wrap with the wrapping paper sent, did not know it was there as I didn't want to open it before christmas day, so we left it in it's brown paper and parcel string!, then found the wrapping paper with it blush).

waves the point of this SS, imo, is to do something for others to show you give a toss. You have done that, you have done something to pay it forward, from your own support received, and had I been the recipient of your gifts, I would have been as overwhelmed as I was with the gifts I got, because someone thought of me and my children and had gone to the trouble and effort of buying, wrapping and posting a gift at a time that is already demanding on finances and time.

Dozysanta Tue 01-Jan-13 16:51:24

Been checking rather erratically but worried my donated parcel never arrived sent in plenty of time. As stated before forgot to put number on!! My SMN was 020 know they had another donor. If anyone one has seen an acknowledgement I would be grateful if you could let me know. Stupidly did not send tracked but could still claim if not arrived and send again.
Happy 2013 to all

MulledwineGless Tue 01-Jan-13 17:08:47

Dozy santa, I'm the other donor for MN 020 and keep checking to make sure it arrived. I posted it 1st class on 14th dec- hoping they have been away for Xmas and new year

LadyMaryChristmas Tue 01-Jan-13 17:14:56

{Waves at *santa 108*} Hi smile I'm incredibly grateful, thank you. I haven't used it yet. The day after I received it ds and I both woke with the flu and have rarely left the house. We're loads better now, just a lingering cough and a lot of snot. I've decided not to use it for wine (I'm going to set up a little fund for that), but will get something that will last. Wine gets drunk, the bottle recycled, but photo frames or pictures will always be here with us. I hope you had a very lovely Christmas and New Year. smile

thegreylady Tue 01-Jan-13 18:18:47

Just want to wish a very very Happy New Year to all mumsnetters.
I loved being a recipient last year and even more enjoyed being a donor this year.
Mumsnet has the true spirit of Christmas-the one I use to explain to older dc about Santa-the spirit of Christmas which makes people want to try to spread a bit of peace and joy.
It was a privilege to be part of it.
Thanks MNHQ smile

Lighthousekeeping Tue 01-Jan-13 18:26:51

Whatever, it was just one gift. I can't take the glory if you got more but, I'm glad you did. Three people from Fareham emailed me. You should start a group. All of them said I don't think anyone else is from Fareham on here smile. I was checking the other thread but must have missed your post when I went away for Christmas. I'm do pleased you got it and sorry I didn't have a tag. I wasn't that organised!

Stitchthis Wed 02-Jan-13 06:50:09

Wow...I missed the post in question but I agree with swallow - you never know the back story.

When I was nominated I burst into tears it was so lovely. To think that somebody had thought of me so kindly. That's been the real gift. Whatever my errant postie gets up to. So thankyou to my nominee and my SS because I know I'm not alone ifyyswim. smile

MTBMummy Wed 02-Jan-13 12:58:35

MN193 - I'm so glad it arrived, and I do hope your DD liked her present.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas smile

RecipientMN005 Wed 02-Jan-13 16:06:31

A very late thank-you here. I recieved a card from the post office on the 20th, but I knew what it was for, and due to losing my mum on the 23rd, I hadn't managed to pick it up until today. Imagine my total surprise when I was handed not one but two parcels, one addressed to the mumsnetter of the house.

The chocolates are fantastic, and will be shared amongst us all, the annual was opened and read until he, very reluctantly, had to put it down because we needed to go buy him some new shoes.

I am so grateful for the gifts, I have now had two, and the thoughts and wishes behind them have meant so much, both before and since the 23rd. I was nominated for supporting someone on here (I know exactly who nominated me and why), and was very reluctant about agreeing to be a recipient as I didnt feel I deserved it, but the gifts from strangers to me and my son have been fantastic and very much appreciated. Thank you to both my santa's.

MN051 checking in, apologies for the delay, I see one of you have been stressed about it. We got all the wonderful gifts, which DD (adhd) saidshe would have to every single item that come out of the box lol. She did however share. There was certainly something for every single one of us in the huge box. When it came I thought it was something else, so waited till the kids were in bed, opened it up and thought, I didn't order Dr Martins haha, then I realised once I peeked. I left it all in the box and when we were altogether we each had a pick. There was a fight over the torch, then the sensory stuff but they had fun doing it, proper geordie style. That chocolate looks fab, we haven't used it as yet, we will when theres a bit more organization and Christmas has gone. I haven't seen anything like it before, but then I don't get out much. Anyway rest assured we got it and we loved it.

I know I also have another secret santa who sent a voucher for amazon. Thankyou so much, it came in really useful.

Such kind hearted secret santas, it amazes me how strangers can be so thoughtful and generous.

As for our Christmas, DS has coped at all, so we have had hardly any sleep in meltdown central. DH's blood sugar levels for his diabieties hit an all time high and I couldn't get my perfume online in the sale!! Apart from that, it's been good as DD1 had our 3rd grandchild, her 1st daughter a few weeks before.

I hope your Christmas has been good and the New Year has even better stuff in store for such considerate sincere secret santas.

Thanks again xx

thought it might be you. Hoped so

<warm, festive feeling>

All the best for the new year, devient x

Adversecamber Thu 03-Jan-13 15:24:53

I have not received my ss parcel yet. However if it doesn't ever turn up I don't personally mind but do worry about a mnetter who has gone to the trouble of donating. It's the thought that counts and all that, just the fact that I was nominated made me weepy and grateful.

Mnetter158 Thu 03-Jan-13 18:45:32

I just wanted to return and thank my secret Santas now I've properly opened my presents, and sorry it has taken so long, between Christmas and DS1 dropping his nap most days, I haven't been able to get on and namechange until today. Particular apologies to the sender of the presents I received in the week before Christmas, that I hadn't been on to confirm they had arrived. They did, and DS1 has been having great fun with the cars, we will all enjoy reading the book together, and my present will be appreciated (and very useful!).
Thank-you again, you have all made me feel very special, and best wishes for 2013!

3girliessanta I meant to return to say a proper thank-you - all gifts opened and loved by all especially the delightful personalised items made in memory of Flora. I have put all the Christmas stuff away today, but could not bring myself to pack away the 2 special items with Flora's name on as I want to look at them when I feel the need for comfort and your kindness has made this possible.
So sorry for the delay - Christmas was going OK under the circumstances until Boxing Day when the lovely cat that we got just 8wks ago as company for my 2 girls (and myself) decided to go out and not return, just like we are not upset enough! No sign of him. So have been a bit pre-occupied with searching for him and making appeals.

3girles so glad your DD's loved their presents. I cried when I received your details through from MN as I knew, no matter what I sent you, I couldn't put a proper smile on your face this christmas and this and future christmases would never be the same again. I'm so glad you liked the items I chose in memory of your darling Flora. I'm so very sorry to read about your cat and hope he comes home soon. I received a lovely parcel before Christmas. I came on the same day to leave a message but just going back through the thread I can see it didn't post. I have no idea what my number was now as the packaging is long gone. My secret Santa probably thinks it has been lost in the post or I'm rather rude. I have just checked back today and found your reply to my message. Thank you. I wish I knew who you were so I could buy you and your DH a glass of wine or a beer.

How do two people get so thoughtful and kind? My exH was an almighty shit.

Ds has his first day at Primary school (he should have started last year) on Monday so am a bit tearful with relief and terror in equal measure today (and tomorrow Sunday).

He is taking the easel in with him, and a tea monkey!

I've just managed to get down to the post office and collect my parcel blush

Thank you so much. It is lovely. The DC will be over the moon when they get home and the books look great.

I'm so embarrassed to be coming back to the thread so late...

A huge thank you from Mnetter 046 for my two parcels! The girls fell in love with their gifts- especially the slipper socks! As for me, I loved the reed diffuser and beautiful bag charm from the first parcel, and I shared the Thornton's chocolates from the second parcel with my pregnant best friend who was having a bad day- so you cheered two mums up that day smile

Thank you so much to whoever nominated, and bought for me. I was really, really chuffed. smile

Don't be at all embarrassed cupoftea - we all luffs ya !

DYSGU - I hope you see this. flowers

I have been away, and came back yesterday to find a lovely big amazon box, carefully prepared with heaps of presents, many for my two boys, which you say were carefully selected by your own two of similar ages.

We came back so late last night, with tired and grumpy kids, we have not unwrapped yet, we will after school today.

I cant imagine being so organized, you know what I mean, with the colour coding and the list, and the spare labels so I could chose what to write.

Your card was so touching, and the contents too. I am simply overwhelmed by such thoughtfulness and generosity.

Many many millions of thanks. I hope you and yours have a fantastic year ahead, and that good karma is coming your way.

Happy New Year!

Dysgu Tue 08-Jan-13 22:49:48

So happy MN143 that the parcel arrived - DP posted it and he is not known as the most reliable (usually chucks a parcel at his assistant with a request to 'post it when you have time please' thrown in)!

We all hope your boys like their gifts when you get some time to unwrap them. You are all very welcome and I hope the boys are over the grumpiness and tiredness - it is always nice to be away but nice to be home in your normal surroundings too.

We hope these small gifts go some small way towards wishing you a belated Merry Christmas and hoping that you too have a wonderful year ahead.

And thank you mnhq of course, lovely ladies.

Your posts make me a little bit sad as my recipient hasn't been back on. I don't want ANY thanks at all just to know it arrived safely because if not I will claim from Royal Mail and b very pissed off with them!

A parcel I sent to Australia the first week in December only arrived last week. So don't loose hope yet!

Purpleknickers Thu 10-Jan-13 16:20:59

I did yes I sent it on Monday 3rd December so I think that was in time ?

I'm now looking at a sad pile of still wrapped xmas presents, (including a pretty scarf, some posh chocs, some peppa pig chocs, a ballerina in a frame craft kit and a John Lewis voucher) and feeling a bit miserable....

There's a second parcel which I sent about 2 weeks later with stuff for the older dcs still out there somewhere - I wonder if that made it into the letterbox as it was smaller?

Mine was MN012 and was going all the way to Canada sent on 3/12 not lurking merely for a thank you as that is not what this is all about. Just want to know that it got there really.

So pleased that my parcel was safely (and gratefully) received.

Thank you Simpson for the lovely card x

Still not received anything from my lovely ss and i really hope they are not thinking i am ungrateful as i have not thanked them yet sad

Msvelvet do you know your number? If not you could email Sandy and then post on here. Those of us still stalking waiting on this thread could then claim from Royal Mail if its gone astray

No i don't know my number, who is sandy? Thanks JustasmallGless smile

Sandy mumsnet who organized it all. This year. She's probably n a heap of gin bottles after the stress of it all!
You could email the normal mumsnet address or the one in the OP?
Hope you get it sorted

MsVelvet Wed 16-Jan-13 14:41:04

My number as i have just found out is MN133 nothing received as of yet still, so if you are my SS then at least you know. Sorry x

MsVelvet - sorry it's not me. My MNer number is MN 020.
I've done a search on both threads and no one has posted to say they have sent it sad
Although over 200 matches were done and I think there are only 10 people posting that they either haven't received or had notification they have arrived. Royal Mail still have a lot to answer for though

The parcel I sent sadly didn't arrive. I've been in touch with the MNer I sent it to, and with MNHQ. Have the receipt so planning to chase it up at my Post Office. I do wonder if our MN SS parcels might be especially vulnerable - just a thought ?

Skyebluesapphire Sat 19-Jan-13 02:53:38

I sent to MN043 and never saw acknowledgement here. I'm not seeking thanks but like others have said, it would be nice to know it got there.

I received from MN176 (or was it 174?)! and never saw that acknowledged either so I hope they have lurked and know that I got their parcel.

And I know of someone on another thread who had no idea about this thread so they could say thanks...

I still think its a great idea and will be nominating and donating again next year.

I sent as well and haven't heard anything. I paid extra to have it tracked and insured - the signature on the royal mail site is just a squiggle - so if it hasn't made it, I could claim and resend it, but I've no way of knowing.

I am very late to this thread, so please accept my apologies.

I just wanted to say a very BIG thank you to MN114 for the lovely gifts I received just before Christmas. To say I was overwhelmed was an understatement - everything was so well chosen and thought about and it was a really really nice surprise.

I wish I could send you a 'thank you' card, but whoever you are, it was very much appreciated and very very kind. I had a difficult evening on Thursday and ate the Green and Blacks chocolate bar in one whole sitting. Lifesaver! grin

Firstly I'd just like to say a big sorry for taking so long to come on this thread to offer my thanks. Very ashamed of myself, hence NC.

I don't know who it was who nominated me/sent me a gift but I am so, so touched.

I've been going through a bit of a time of it recently (just coming out of another breakdown) and to know that someone cares enough to be so kind to me, a complete stranger, has meant the world to me. It still brings tears to my eyes sad

Thank you again, I know it sounds really feeble but your kindness has been like a little chink of light in the darkness [pathetic emoticon] xx

FWIW the recipients do not know their secret santa numbers. Those numbers are written on the parcels and only then do they find out that they are MN050 or so on.

So if your recipient has not been on the thread to say thanks, it could be that they have not received the parcel and have no idea what their number is.

They can email Sandy and request their secret santa number. Then they could post on this thread informing their SS that the parcel was not received so that the giver can claim from the PO.

Perhaps if those who have sent and not yet heard if their parcels have arrived asked Sandy, she can email the intended recipient and just asked if they received anything?

Maybe next year recipients will know in advance what their secret santa number is and an email could also be sent to all who took part with a link to the SS thread and a reminder for recipients to post once they have received their parcel and a request that senders post once they have sent the parcels off. This would give recipients an idea as to when the parcel was posted and how many they should receive.
