So what do I need to not miss this holiday season? I think I enjoy this moment with my tv guide more than actually watching the stuff! Come join me,
So far I have:
Call the midwife
The Dambusters
Young Victoria
Gremlins
Babe

What are your 'must not miss' Xmas watches???

spookysal Sun 16-Dec-12 18:39:12

Haven't got my copy yet but am watching so I can mark them off!

Love all yours!

DoubleMum Sun 16-Dec-12 18:57:05

Room on the Broom and the new Snowman. Dr Who. DD will definitely want to watch Strictly as her all-time favourite Chelsea Healy (or however you spell her name) is on it.

DoubleMum Sun 16-Dec-12 19:08:23

Tangled, The Princess and the Frog and Shrek Forever After, since we don't have any of those on DVD. A Christmas Carol which is fab, and Muppets Christmas Carol.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Swedish TV versions).
Might have to record Spartacus and Ben Hur for a rainy afternoon or two.
If you haven't seen Nativity, it's great, much better than Nativity 2.
Mr Stink.
Outnumbered.
Miranda.

pugsandseals Sun 16-Dec-12 21:45:21

Making notes, keep them coming! Also adding Twilight & Lord of the Rings - just to vet them before DD asks to read them of course wink

DoubleMum Sun 16-Dec-12 22:14:58

I didn't realise Twilight was on, I quite fancy watching that!

Stinkystockingedfeet Sun 16-Dec-12 22:19:29

Christmas Eve filmfest with the ds's:

Nightmare before Christmas
Muppet Christmas Carol
Nativity

fuzzpig Mon 17-Dec-12 20:19:18

Haven't looked properly yet but a few I am really excited about:

Strictly final
Miranda
Room on the Broom (I actually shrieked when I first saw the ad!)
Ripper street
Doctor who
Mr stink
Snowman and the snowdog

We don't actually watch all that much telly usually - we are a DVD mad family and have loads for Xmas - but the Xmas Radio Times is a little tradition for me - I always buy it despite never buying it at any other time!

Meglet Mon 17-Dec-12 20:20:46

Are the Harry Potters on this Xmas? I know they were on last year, ITV IIRC.

Doogle2 Mon 17-Dec-12 20:21:25

New series of Mrs Browns boys, outnumbered and Big Fat Quiz of the year for me grin

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Tue 18-Dec-12 10:35:06

Can't see where our RT has got to at the mo but some of these sound great !
When I was a kid I enjoyed going through my Grandpa's copy and starring everything that looked good. Actually I think it was the listings in his Daily Telegraph which I liked because it had recommended and not to miss or something similar ?!

Anyway most looking forward to ....

Call the midwife
Downton Abbey (is that a clash already - have a feeling it could be ?)
Strictly Come Dancing
New snowman with snowdog
A Christmas carol (a classic - hope it's on on Christmas Eve ?)
Room on the broom - should be fun !
Oh, and have been loving Outnumbered with the DC's recently - so a Christmas one should be good smile
Also Miranda (my friend after the MN webchat !)

Doshusallie Tue 18-Dec-12 10:43:37

Room on the Broom
A Christmas Carol
Snowman and SnowDog

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Tue 18-Dec-12 10:51:46

Also enjoying some of the lovely Christmas cooking - like Nigel Slater's 12 things of Christmas - Mmmmm ! Will enjoy catching some Nigella at some point too smile Maybe some Michel Roux junior if he's about again over the hols ? DS is always hoping it will inspire me to cook wonderful things but so far I fear I've not lived up to his expectations !

TreadOnTheCracks Tue 18-Dec-12 10:51:50

MegBusset Tue 18-Dec-12 13:35:08

Oh yes me too, I have got my RT but not had a chance to go through it yet.

I am going to buy my first EVER Radio Times - as I don't want to miss a thing!

Room on the Broom, Downtown Abbey, Eastenders, Strictly plus some kiddie friendly Xmas films all going to be watched/recorded/rewatched.

Vagaceratops Tue 18-Dec-12 16:25:37

Call The Midwife

The thing with Robson Green

LittleAbruzzenBearLovesYuleLog Tue 18-Dec-12 17:48:08

We will be out of the country so I can only record up to Thursday night next week. [panic emoticon]

marjproops Tue 18-Dec-12 18:38:56

Dr Who- christmas special and any other repeats

Horrible Histories prom and Christmas special on cbbc

Nativity and all the Shreks.

MamaMimistletoe Tue 18-Dec-12 22:08:50

Many of the above + the new christmas Royle Family

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast Tue 18-Dec-12 23:07:38

Ooh I didn't know there was going to be another Royle family for Christmas -

will definitely be watching that rather than the Queen's speech grin

(actually I probably will have to see what Queenie has to say at some point - hopefully a nice highlights of the year, or highlights of her 60 year reign combo ?)

Horrible histories one to look out for here too - DD(13) and DS(11) know all the words to their songs and hence can tell anyone the order of the Kings and Queens of England. I'm very impressed !

< hums .... William, William, Henry, Stephen, Henry, Richard, John .... >

DoubleMum Wed 19-Dec-12 07:27:08

When is Horrible Histories please, I can't find it.

Walnutcakelover Wed 19-Dec-12 11:00:38

Is the horrible histories the one from last year? because they did a christmas episode just on songs.

DoubleMum Wed 19-Dec-12 11:04:21

Sorry have found it now, seems to be on on different channels, and different times in different regions. Can't tell if it's the same as last year though.

dinkystinky Wed 19-Dec-12 11:05:48

The Snowman and the Snowdog

Walnutcakelover Wed 19-Dec-12 11:11:57

Thanks doublemum

MyMamaToldMe Wed 19-Dec-12 12:19:22

Thanks Audrina!

MyMamaToldMe Wed 19-Dec-12 12:21:59

LittleAbruzzen - if you have an iPhone, there is a Sky plus app which you can link in to your Sky account and record from that.

stacysmom Wed 19-Dec-12 12:56:56

I was lucky enough to see the new Snowman and the Snowdog at the cinema a couple of weeks ago. It's just wonderful. Disclaimer: may require hankies.

RabidCarrot Wed 19-Dec-12 13:58:14

Call the midwife, I am hoping to watch that and Dr Who

annamulle Wed 19-Dec-12 14:55:08

If, like me, you don't have time to watch many full shows here are some shorts that are worth viewing:

Touching Christmas charity video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmv65ZBRZyc

Very funny rapping mum: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNVde5HPhYo

Enjoy!

ladydepp Wed 19-Dec-12 14:57:10

Can't believe no one has mentioned Cbeebies panto! A must for me dd.

marjproops Wed 19-Dec-12 16:47:32

Horrible histories Christmas special this Friday 4.30 CBBC

Horrible Histories Prom next Monday at 2.55 CBBC

Think they are repeats/old ones but we're new to HH this year so new to us!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes Wed 19-Dec-12 19:44:08

We always buy the Radio Times at Christmas but end up watching very little that we don't normally watch, which is the Disney channels and Strictly for the DCs, Corrie for me and Dr Who for DH. Will definitely be watching Downton. Never seem to get time to watch films too much time on MN

Tried to get the DCs to watch the Gruffalo last year and got zero interest even though they loved the book, so I won't be bothering with Room on the Broom (again, they loved the book but we went to see it at the theatre and got zero interest, including from me, right waste of money that was).

serin Wed 19-Dec-12 20:09:23

Merlin
Merlin
Merlin

Whole family is hoplessly addicted to this programme (and its gorgeous co stars wink)

Oblomov Wed 19-Dec-12 22:04:53

iloveeverton Wed 19-Dec-12 22:48:41

Can't wait for Homeland finale on sunday!

Have just sky+ most of the suggestions above! yey grin

pugsandseals Wed 19-Dec-12 23:00:40

Stacysmom is the music any good? As a music teacher I have spent the last couple of years listening to beautiful children playing songs from the snowmand & rescuing me from the horror of yet another rendition of Jingle Bells!!!!

Longtime Thu 20-Dec-12 00:04:43

serin, yes Merlin! I've only just found out that the second part is on Christmas Eve!

iloveeverton, I've already seen the Homeland finale, it's great!

MildredIsMyAlterEgo Thu 20-Dec-12 00:21:44

I will NOT be watching Dr Who, I've seen the trailers and those scary snowmen freak me right out. Hello, they've got teeth, what's that about?

yy to Room on the Broom, can't wait smile
