Mumsnet Christmas Appeal: the thank you thread

(1000 Posts)
SandyMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 28-Nov-12 13:15:00

So the spreadsheets have been completed, the matches have gone out, all is done. [gin]

We're all waiting with bated breath. If you're a recipient and you'd like to pop back on here when your gift arrives to thank your donor then do remember to look out for your MN code which will have been included in the address on the packaging and include it in your post. The person who sent the gift will then be able to know it's you.

If anyone has any questions about anything to do with the Mumsnet Christmas Appeal then do please email Santa.Claus@mumsnet.com.

Ho Ho Ho!

Worth saying that if you wish to stay anonymous you can change your name to recipient1943 or whatever when posting.

Blimey I thought someone had already bought, sent and someone recieved, was panicking then!!

SantasHugandRollintheSnow Wed 28-Nov-12 14:42:20

I've already bought and posted <looks smug>. I've also done all my other Christmas shopping other than food, I am a total swot

CelticPromise Wed 28-Nov-12 15:35:58

I signed up to donate but I haven't had a match. Are there any more to go out?

ratbagcatbag Wed 28-Nov-12 15:45:03

I'm still in the deciding what to get camp at the moment smile

Melty Wed 28-Nov-12 16:37:16

Weirdly, I got 2 matches. I must have refreshed when I shouldnt or something..

Himalaya Wed 28-Nov-12 16:39:33

Do the matches come by PM, or email? I haven't had mine yet?

SantasHugandRollintheSnow Wed 28-Nov-12 16:50:25

Had mine by email from Santa wink

NicholasTeakozy Wed 28-Nov-12 17:16:36

Got my match yesterday, bought a thing today, tracking down a specific thing tomorrow, adding a few bits and bobs and will post at the weekend. I really hope I get it right.

Celtic, I had mine by email from Santa Claus. I nearly didn't read it, as I thought it was spam.

gonerogue Wed 28-Nov-12 17:50:52

Have mine bought too, really excited to see whether the recipient loves it.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus Wed 28-Nov-12 17:51:09

Just found my match in my emails, I had been looking for it in PMs!

CelticPromise Wed 28-Nov-12 18:14:21

Got one now, thank you Sandy!

MOSagain Wed 28-Nov-12 18:16:40

Explain this please. I am happy to buy and send something. Am I too late?

BabylonPI Wed 28-Nov-12 19:04:11

I got my match today and will be posting early next week.
This is my first Christmas as a Mumsnetter and it's lovely! grin

KnottyLocks Wed 28-Nov-12 19:17:03

Rose, the deadline has gone but might be worth you PMing SandyMumsnet to see if there is any way you can still donate smile

RecipientX Wed 28-Nov-12 19:26:13

I've been nominated and I am truly grateful for the thought, let alone any actual stuff-type-stuff. Lovely givers, thank you all, because when things are a bit of a struggle it's a comfort to know that I'm not totally alone and that someone I don't know is wishing me and my DCs well.

You are a (collective) star.

Ok whoever I got. I'm sorry. I will post it next week, I absolutely promise.

I've bought it (today) there's no way on earth I will get to post office before Monday. Please can everyone not be super organized and have sent theirs already and make me look like an unorganized uncaring mess who can't get to the post office before it shuts.
Thanks.

KnottyLocks Wed 28-Nov-12 19:46:33

Tantrums, I'll be at least a week or two behind you smile [selfless ]

Thank you.

I'll be posting in two weeks, am [shocked] at those of you posting immediately! I had to go to Amazon to buy some bits to post and ill need to pop to the shops on Saturday morning to get some bits from Montezuma's and other places too grin Hopefully it'll have come together by the end of next week hmm

NicholasTeakozy Wed 28-Nov-12 20:17:37

Don't worry Tantrums, despite Google search I can't find the specific thing I want to get for an MNers DS. I shall have a think about getting a related thing instead and hope I get it right. According to my own DCs I do in the main...

it will be two weeks till I get paid and can buy stuff so don't worry Tantrum

MrsWembley Wed 28-Nov-12 20:39:12

Omg, are people really that organised!shock

I have just picked up the email and am in the process of discussing the gift with DP. There's a present for a small boy involved and he has insight...

crazynanna Wed 28-Nov-12 20:43:43

Done and posted! wink

<swot>

SantasHugandRollintheSnow Wed 28-Nov-12 20:46:40

I am on mat leave and it was pretty clear from the email what was wanted (but not in a grabby way at all, in a really grateful and humble way) which meant I could do it quite quickly.

ThatDudeSanta Wed 28-Nov-12 21:00:12

Can I say a huge thank you for my Amazon vouchers. It was such a lovely surprise and so thoughtful not only for whoever nominated me but the lovely person who sent me the gift. I haven't decided what to spend the vouchers on yet but I will have great fun looking.

Thank you again and I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas.

ArtexMonkeyDude Wed 28-Nov-12 21:19:21

Me too Dude grin

littlemoon14 Wed 28-Nov-12 22:00:10

DudeInaTutu Wed 28-Nov-12 22:37:20

i would really like someone to explain how you go about giving to the appeal because despite being on here lots, the whole giving to the appeal thing passed me by and i dont want that to happen next year. anyone? pm would be fine! ta muchly!

KenDoddsDadsDog Chile Wed 28-Nov-12 23:01:15

I have my match, just deciding what to buy smile

SantasHugandRollintheSnow Wed 28-Nov-12 23:54:45

RibenaFiend Thu 29-Nov-12 07:34:59

It's my first Christmas as a mumsnetter too!

I've got my email from Santa grin and I'm now really excited to go shopping.

RibenaFiend Thu 29-Nov-12 07:37:48

SantasHugandRollintheSnow That's really lovely. I naively put that I was totally flexible as to who it could be for and now I have no direction other than "To the shops!!" <plays a fanfare on a small plastic kazoo>

SantasHugandRollintheSnow Thu 29-Nov-12 08:25:45

ribena I treated it like any of the other presents I have bought as I thought that was the point I clearly missed it haha. Good luck in the shops smile

Trazzletoes Bosnia-Herzegovina Thu 29-Nov-12 09:06:16

SantasHug I don't think you've done anything wrong! I think some people wrap and some don't...

Ooh I will wrap mine all sparkly like grin

I like sparkly gringrin

RandallPinkFloyd Thu 29-Nov-12 10:36:09

Posted yesterday, made me feel festive for the first time this year smile

Fillybuster Thu 29-Nov-12 10:39:23

There's no right and wrongs in this game smile I tend to wrap anything that's intended for the MNer of the house, but not stuff that's for the dcs, so they can decide how/when to allocate it, as not everyone is going to be delighted when their 2 yo dc opens a box of chocolates at 5am on xmas morning grin

madhairday Thu 29-Nov-12 11:17:59

Some of you are being ultra organised and quick here!

Mine may take a while yet...hopefully the December post will be working well grin

love this!

Thank you to my nominator and my wonderful secret santa, I have been having a very rough morning everything seams so bleak but when I opened my envelope and read the little note it has made me feel so loved. THANK YOU

Solo Thu 29-Nov-12 13:19:00

Melty so did I. Was going to be a struggle to do one, so two will be a bit harder...<tightens belt> smile

MOSagain Thu 29-Nov-12 13:39:19

solo do you want to pass one of yours on to me? I offered to buy for 4 children (as I have 4 and always like to buy for 4 other children, one from each of mine if that makes sense) but my match which I've received is only for 2 children. More than happy as I was expecting to buy more. FB or PM me x

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 29-Nov-12 13:50:52

I love Christmas. wine smile

Now I know what I'm getting, part of it needs to arrive here, then I can get me to the post office, I fear I'm not as organised as some!

Oh sugar I didn't realise we were supposed to do it asap... was thinking to send my pack some time in December 2 days before Xmas <runs off to sort something out quickly>

Galena Thu 29-Nov-12 14:36:12

Ali - I was sort of in the same situation, but DH and I think we remembered smile

RuckAndRoll Thu 29-Nov-12 14:44:22

Just ordered mine online - got it gift wrapped and delivered straight there - although I've just realised, I hope they don't put a reciept in with my details on!

Galena Thu 29-Nov-12 14:46:19

I was worried about that Ruck, so got it delivered here, and will post it on.

catgirl1976 England Thu 29-Nov-12 14:46:33

I have signed up to give a gift but I haven't had a match

What should I do?

Galena Thu 29-Nov-12 14:48:33

Catgirl - check your emails... You're looking at one from 'Santa Claus' - May be in Spam...

Brain Surgeon, I dont get paid for 2 weeks so mine will be going out special delivery then, as long as it gets there before xmas I dont see a problem really.

catgirl1976 England Thu 29-Nov-12 14:51:07

Ah...I never check my spam - just delete

Have e-mailed MN so hopefully they can re-send

RuckAndRoll Thu 29-Nov-12 14:51:33

Galena too late to change now. It says they don't include a receipt so hopefully won't be all my details, if it is, hopefully the MNetter can ignore it just enjoy the gifts :-)

Hi Scrazy,

Hi BrainSurgeon,
No need for a quick dash, after all it is still November.... This should be a joy and stress free, so take your time! And thank you Everyone!

RecipientMN073 Thu 29-Nov-12 16:22:52

Recipient MN073 here... Thank you so much, secret Santa! I was absolutely amazed to be nominated, and would like to thank both my nominator and my sender. I haven't decided what to get with it, but I think it will be something for me to enjoy. smile (Obviously I've namechanged so my nominator won't know that I'm thanking them, but I am!) grin

stickyj Thu 29-Nov-12 16:24:21

I have started collecting "items" for a box of stuff I need to send. Sorry, but if I say what is in it, I might out myself. Years and years ago, my lovely DH delivered a present, are we still allowed to do that? I thought I might send a little letter asking the mumsnetter when they might be in and combine it with a weekend trip to near them. Any ideas/suggestions?x

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 29-Nov-12 16:37:21

Sandy, I think we should move you on from gin to sloe gin. Tis more seasonal.

BrainSurgeon Thu 29-Nov-12 16:37:47

MOSagain Thu 29-Nov-12 17:14:12

<wonders when the lovely MNHQ will give us festive smileys?>

PigeonStreet Thu 29-Nov-12 17:57:10

Just sent the first part of mine too. I hope they receive it very soon. Just need to pull my finger out and finish packing up the second parcel for them...
I feel all warm and fuzzy (could that not be turned into a smiley MNHQ?)

JenFrankincenseAndMyrrh Thu 29-Nov-12 18:47:46

Mine arrived today, I just need to work out how to package it up and then I'll get it sent out. Methinks bubblewrap will be needed and hopefully it gets there in one piece as it looks really pretty at the moment smile

FiveFlowers Thu 29-Nov-12 19:46:36

Well, I have been feeling down and depressed for longer than I can remember but today I went shopping for pressies and I enjoyed it so much I can't say.

It's been a looong time since I've had a baby to buy for (and something for mum of course!) and it was really, really fun.

I just hope so much that what I got is ok.

Will take it to post office at weekend.

ParceQueJeLeVauxBien Thu 29-Nov-12 19:48:06

I love, love, love this part of MN. Really makes me feel that this is what Christmas should be all about.

<sobs>

I have been nominated who knows why but I was in tears when I found out!

I shall have the tissues ready everytime I click on this thread to read what you luffly people have done!

<hands tissues to Parce>

FeijoaVodkaAndCheezelsDude Thu 29-Nov-12 20:10:56

Aww, just checked my email. I nominated someone utterly deserving and lovely and have had no confirmation (not able to buy this year). I have seen else where she has been matched, so will be receiving something.

I can only guess she's been nominated by someone else as well?

thegreylady Thu 29-Nov-12 20:49:56

I am a bit nervous-will be posting mine tomorrow and just hope it will be ok.I have spent same on each dc but big one looks much less than little one!
Have put in pack of wrapping paper so recipient can enjoy wrapping stuff herself smile
Have wrapped hers though.

thegreylady Thu 29-Nov-12 20:52:49

I am buying for 4 dc so spread a bit thin but really really loved doing it smile

SoftKittyWarmKitty Thu 29-Nov-12 22:18:15

I originally said I'd buy for one DC because I had a spare present ready to send but my match has three DC - does that mean a different donor is buying for her other two DC? It's the first year I've taken part so I'm not totally sure how it all works but sod it, I'm going to buy them each a little gift smile. Then if someone else also sends them a gift they'll have more to open. DS can help me shop this weekend.

1978andallthat Thu 29-Nov-12 22:22:04

Marking place.

I have got for the kids and Mnetter but not for a dp/dh as don't know if this recipient has one. Hope that's ok and there won't be a very left out feeling family member.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney Thu 29-Nov-12 22:32:33

Posting here so I remember to be organised to send my parcel soon!!

Tis all exciting and warming and luffly!!

PeskyRat Thu 29-Nov-12 23:08:29

ok, so first time donator here.

all this talk of exciting parcels and packages etc, erm, I think I offered to send vouchers.

Are vouchers ok?

Does my 'receiver' know and is happy to get vouchers.

I'm being stupid here aren't I? blush

Are we supposed to get a confirmation if we nominated someone? I nominated someone. If she said no, do we still get to know? I'm full of festive questions. I think she might have said no...

Softlysoftly Fri 30-Nov-12 00:26:30

Do we find out if our nominee has been chosen/matched?

I think I might have been too specific about my donations they have to go to MNHQ not an individual blush.

can't believe some recipients already have something!

Galena Fri 30-Nov-12 08:34:18

PeskyRat, vouchers are fine - for some MNers, they will just help pay for a nice Christmas dinner, or allow them to buy something extra for their child that they know he/she will want.

Those of you asking about if you nominated someone, I don't think you do get confirmation about whether or not they are receiving. I think everyone who was nominated got an email asking for some more information. Then there were lots of people who offered to buy something (apparently there are usually more givers than getters) so some recipients have been matched with more than one Secret Santa. Some people offered to give without nominating anyone, etc. If you nominated someone and they chose not to fill in the information, then I guess that's up to them.

Sorry, that all made sense in my head - I hope it makes sense on screen!

PeskyRat Fri 30-Nov-12 09:08:34

Thank you Galena. That's put my mind at rest. Vouchers it is smile.

Hello. And yes, EVERYONE who was nominated has been asked to give us their details so they can receive a gift.

Some people were a bit bashful, so we sat on them until they coughed up their details.

One or two couldn't be persuaded, though. However hard we tried.

So, yes, with one or two exceptions, everyone who was nominated will be receiving a gift.

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 30-Nov-12 11:10:05

Just out of curiosity Helen, could we nominate folk who work at MN?

AllIWant85 Fri 30-Nov-12 12:24:34

I'm ready to send my parcels but I don't really want to put my return address. Is there a mumsnet address I could put as the return address so if it can't be delivered it would be returned to HQ?

RecipientMN097 Fri 30-Nov-12 15:24:21

To sender of gifts for MN097:
Thank you for the package - it arrived today.

The contents had obviously been chosen -and wrapped- with care; very kind of you.
The clothes for DS will be great for spring and DD is wearing the cardigan from hers now (she's rather dinky so sleeves folded up... but she couldn't wait and won't let me take it off...!)
I am crazily pleased about the thought of making paper chains with DS with the set - and I am going to try and get the colouring pages photocopied so they can go their hardest over Christmas (and I can save the master copies for next year, ha ha, thrifty).
All in all 2012 has been very rather rubbish and we have had a few of months of poorliness too - so your thoughtful parcel was much appreciated.
Thank you again - and a very Happy Christmas to you & yours too [ grin ] grin the card will go up with the others too thanks thanks

Oh and a thank you too, to the person who nominated me. That, in itself, was lovely! I was shock blush and grin all at once!

I was really disorganised this year, and didn't get around to offering to send a gift. If MNHQ are ok with you sending the details, I would be glad to send an extra present to your recipient.

But don't feel bad about sending a small thing - it is the thought that counts.

SantasHugandRollintheSnow Fri 30-Nov-12 23:03:13

crazy mine has too and it made me feel all Christmassy. It's like the episode of friends where joey tells phoebe there are no selfless good deeds as it made me feel great grin

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 30-Nov-12 23:06:37

You lot are awesome. Just saying. grin

Dawndonna Fri 30-Nov-12 23:10:19

Thanks to those who did the supermarket research, I did too, and yep, it felt a bit creepy!
My box will go on Monday. I really hope I've got it right, I've had great fun doing the shopping.

Viperidae Fri 30-Nov-12 23:49:40

I tried the supermarket research and what shops are in the local town but then overthought things too much and worried about transport, preferences, etc so much I've confused myself. There seems to be an Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Morrisons all similar distances from my mner which confused me!

In the end I have decided to send vouchers, boring though that is! I hope it doesn't look like a lack of effort but I didn't realise how hard it would be to buy for somebody I don't know but I'm sure it will be appreciated anyway.

triplets Sat 01-Dec-12 00:41:46

I haven`t rec`d a match yet, have checked junk mail etc............help pls MNHQ!

I was nominated for this and as member for less than a year filled my details in like a good girl, I didn't realise what a huge effort and organisation goes into it, I am humbled that someone would think of meand my family. Since none of you will know who am thanks to the code I feel I can share my story I post on here for advice and release mainly as up until recently I was full time caring gory terminally ill mother ,
2 weeks ago she passed away not entirely unexpected but still a big shock . Between her being admitted to hosp and it happening dp has had 2 weeks off worktto deal with the children so money is tight and I'm currently typing from my hospital Ned after comin in as an emergency to have my throat drained. Im not trying to make anyone feel bad for us but this nomination has come at the worst times we have ever been thrpugh and shown us that people Still care ans are decent. Although right now life reads like a series of unfortunate events I am lookin forward to goin home to my children and celebrating the season just knowing that someone wanted to make a difference to us, so thank you. From the bottom of my heart

trumpton Sat 01-Dec-12 06:01:07

Ah waiting I am thinking of you . Hard times can only get better. I looked after my dad and was quite ill afterwards . I think we just get so exhausted that our bodies get ill to make us lie down ! Look after yourself . You will always be your mother's little girl.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I am running on lack of sleep with tiny Phone pad so apologies for typos. Hoping to go home today once the drains are out

MOSagain Sat 01-Dec-12 08:36:40

soupy I was stubborn too. I said that unless MNHQ could find me a nice new husband, preparably Daniel Craig then there were far worse off people that should receive grin

Now where the hell are the Christmas smileys? Its December now!

SoupDragon Sat 01-Dec-12 08:38:24

Soupy! You? Stubborn ?

I know, hard to believe isn't it?

stop being so organised you lot your making me look bad!

To my receiptor (sp?) I promise you will get your present before Xmas, probably special deliver two days before blush mine will be the terribly wrapped one with spare paper for you to rewrap. I can not wrap for puffy!!

Marking my place to make me get my arse into gear.

Glad the supermarket/shop stalking had been deemed not creepy grin I've been to where the MNer lives in the past and know that shopping choices are limited.

Just out of interest, if all else fails, where would I get Amazon vouchers from? Can you physically buy them?

SallyBear Sat 01-Dec-12 10:29:51

I'm sure I saw them in the gift cards section in Sainsburys yesterday. I was buying a Cineworld voucher for a friends DS.

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 01-Dec-12 10:36:38

Amazon vouchers can be bought online from them and then you down load them and print.

wow wow wow.

Thanks so much for this. Just received a lovely parcel full of thoughtful pressies that my DD will LOVE.

Still not sure what I did to deserve it but I'm so grateful and will most certainly be on the donating end next year..

Now I'm all teary and just in total wonder at the generosity and consideration people can treat each other with.

Cor that was gushy - but sincere and heartfelt all the same. Thanks again!

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas!

The only number I can find is 932.

So, whoever you are, thanks. I really appreciate it.

And maybe I can stop wallpapering my kitchen with post-it notes...gringrin

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Sat 01-Dec-12 11:50:31

waiting sorry you are having such a horrible time, I hope you feel a bit better soon, I am similarly in one of the darkest periods of my life, and the nomination has been like a ray of light. Knowing there are people out there that listen to my story and care enough to do this, it's spurring me on to keep going, and has made Mumsnet one of my favourite places to be. I know when I am in a stronger position I'll be paying this sort of generosity of spirit forwards.

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Sat 01-Dec-12 11:52:04

Aw Couthy I'm grin too.

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Sat 01-Dec-12 11:53:24

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus Sat 01-Dec-12 13:36:21

Okay, going to get other bits for my parcel today. smile I have a small boy to buy for and I am totally stumped.

SoftKittyWarmKitty Sat 01-Dec-12 14:46:50

I bought my gifts today, it was fun buying some someone else's kids smile. I was a bit stumped buying for one of the DCs which is a girl, as I have a DS so I've got no idea what girls are into, so hope I got it right. Just want to ad a few bits and will probably post on Tuesday.

Those of you who've posted already, did you put your address on the back of the parcel? I usually put my details on the back of any post in case it gets lost or undelivered but not sure if I should for this - what do you think?

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Sat 01-Dec-12 14:50:16

Depends on how small. I've seen loads - Octonauts, Mike the Knight, Fireman Sam, Ben 10, Spiderman, Marvel Heroes, Moshi Monsters, Dr Who, Hex Bugs, Jokes, Science Experiments, Dinosaurs, Space Travel, Horrid Henry, Football, Lego, Meccano, Horrible Histories. Spilling my brain here, lemme know if you want me to stop, lol.

I've had trouble with my little boy, so put a lot of thought into it hehe. Managed to get him Secret Seven books 1-10 in a second hand shop.

Secret Santa MN049

Oh my gosh, I've never known such kindness! When I was nominated for the Christmas appeal I felt a bit embarrassed as I don't feel I deserve anythingblush However, I also felt really blessed as money is tight at the moment and anything at all would have been so so appreciatedsmile

I can't believe what I have received today, I actually cried! Beautifully wrapped presents for my sons ds1 + ds2 and gifts for baby ds3 too!
As well as the presents we also received socks! I had informed mnhq when asked for ideas that the boys were short on socks, well, I don't think we'll need to buy socks for a long time!! Loads of lovely socks for all 3 of themsmile There's also a lovely Christmas DVD for the DC!!
As if that wasn't enough my secret Santa sent a lovely Christmassy Yankee candle for me and, my favourite bit of all.. A beautiful Harrods gingerbread house teabag tidy!!! It's gorgeous, I've never even been to Harrods!
I feel so so blessed today, thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart smilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmile

Who ever you are, I hope you have an absolutely amazing Christmasgrin

Galena Sat 01-Dec-12 16:06:13

Those of you unsure about return address, you should be able to put your initials, the house number and postcode. If the parcel needs to be returned, the post office should be able to return it that way. Up to you though whether that's still too much info!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney Sat 01-Dec-12 17:07:59

Am looking through my cupboards to see if I can find a couple extra things for the MNer to add into the main present for the nominated DD, hope this is ok. Can't afford Harrods standard tho, heck, feel bad if my recipient doesn't get much blush

JustFabulous Sat 01-Dec-12 17:26:00

Sorry if I did the wrong thing, SoupDragon blush.

SoupDragon Sat 01-Dec-12 17:51:39

Oh no, you didn't do the wrong thing - it was nice to be nominated. It would just be hugely inappropriate for me to accept smile

Fillybuster Sat 01-Dec-12 17:51:54

I just did the 'ebay standard' thing of putting my house number and postcode on the back - I don't think you even need initials. That seems fairly anonymous....although given that I idiotically signed the cards I stuck inside (from filly, not RL name) I really hope that no-one decides to turn detective.... grin

SecretSanta049 Sat 01-Dec-12 18:23:34

Gosh I only posted that yesterday! Believe me, it was a joy to do.

I've never been to Harrods either but I saw it online, thought it was so pretty and so reasonable when it arrived that I ordered a couple more for special presents. Just thought I had better point that out! The local courier was surprised to be delivering Harrods boxes to my estate too grin

So, so happy, has made my week smile <wipes tear>

Merry Christmas!

MNHQ please can I have a reminder of what I I offered brain muddle. Have tried pm and emailing Santa but no response sad thanks

Madsometimes Sun 02-Dec-12 18:07:57

So where do I begin? It must be with an enormous thank you to wonderful MNer MN117.

Yesterday morning, a package came, addressed to the Mumsnetter of the House. With characteristic unrestraint, I tore off the packaging and inside was a wrapped present. I opened it to find a biscuit tin, with instructions that there were not biscuits inside. Inside was a treasure trove of gifts. There were fake moustaches for my children, which they adored. There was a Sancturary face-mask, bubble bath, body mist, wine, table confetti, and some beautiful chocolates from the the part of the county that this MN comes from. Not sure if I'm allowed to say where, because it's quite a small place, mostly celtic I think. Very special, and a place I would love to visit one day.

I was given strict instructions to run bath, and add bubbles.
Apply face pack
Pour wine
Oil well
and slip into bed with chocolates.

And if that wasn't enough, the lovely person also added a voucher too.

So thank you so much. It was such a fantastic lesson for my children too. At first, they obviously wanted to know who the presents were from. I explained that I didn't know this person, but that it was someone extremely kind. It was really quite extraordinary to see their faces as they registered the concept of the kindness of strangers.

This time last year, I was really very poorly, and in the past year I have got so much stronger, such that now I am totally back to normal. This was a final wonderful end to my year of recovery. Once again, thank you so much.

Snapespeare Sun 02-Dec-12 18:18:19

I think I've got something in my eye.<sniffle>

Madsometimes Sun 02-Dec-12 18:26:54

That's exactly how I feel. I felt like I would like to have returned a little kindness. Obviously it's too late for the MN Christmas appeal, but there is the refuge appeal, and I have donated to that.

BOFingSanta Sun 02-Dec-12 18:30:12

I'm so glad you enjoyed your present. It's the first time I have joined in but I saw the appeal last year and really wanted to contribute this year. smile

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname Sun 02-Dec-12 19:30:32

Thank you so much MN060! thanks What a lovely thing to come home to yesterday. I'd had a pretty miserable day, bumped into STBex H and his OW at the garden centre where we were all buying Christmas trees. First time I'd seen OW. sad So really pleased to come home to two letters, one pressie from you, one from the hospital telling me DS2's 24 hour heart monitor results were completely normal. grin

Snapespeare Sun 02-Dec-12 19:34:38

I joined mumsnet about five years ago (?) because I read about the appeal in some paper or the other and thought it was just a lovely thing. Since then it has been my priviledge to 'meet' some amazing women, i've been supported, been told off when I'm wrong and have always been amazed at...the collective resilience. How hands are held and sound, strong advice given. I still think the appeal is an amazing thing. To know that someone cares when things see ally shitty can absolutely lift your day. Thanks to all the givers this year and compliments of the season to all recipients.

Alongside campaigns, blankets & the deluge of support when people are going through horrific times, this makes me very, very proud to be a mumsnetter.

I received a note from MN, saying I had been nominated and would I please accept & send them my details. It was so lovely to have been nominated - it's just so nice knowing that someone thought of me smile Thank you, to whichever lovely MNer it was x

I was going to say 'Thank you, but really there are other people in far more need than I am' but MN was very clear in their email that it wasn't all about people needing help, but also people wanting to say thanks or whatever and they made it feel quite rude to say no, so I accepted the very very kind nomination smile

What a lovely nest to be in.

MN050 I received your lovely parcel this morning. I want to say a HUGE thank you I really didn't expect it to be so generous.
DS loves his new presents, they'll keep him amused all day (which with a 3 week old dd to feed is a big bonus!)

Every single item seemed so well thought out, your generosity and kindness is overwhelming and I really hope you have a lovely Christmas too.

Thank you again smile thanks

SoftKittyWarmKitty Mon 03-Dec-12 11:47:28

Are we meant to wrap the presents up ready to open at Christmas, or leave them so the MNer of the house can see what they are?

Dear Worra Have name-changed as am not sure of the etiquette but just wanted to say I am so glad the parcel arrived OK and had the desired effect. Was a bit worried because other Secret Santas seemed to be putting in so much more thought and effort and vouchers seemed a bit of a cop-out but I wanted to make sure you could get something that would be really wanted. Hope you have a lovely Christmas - if you were nominated for being an all-round good-egg then thanks for contributing so positively to Mumsnet and if it was because you have had a tough year, then I am glad to have spread a little Christmas cheer in your direction. smile

dingdongMadHairDayonhigh Mon 03-Dec-12 13:13:22

ooh this is so lovely to read <wipes eyes>

My parcel all ready to post, will try and get to the PO tomorrow.

luffly lot. smile

SecretSantaMN119 Mon 03-Dec-12 13:29:50

MaryAnn I am so pleased you like them.
I was really worried after reading of the lovely perfectly wrapped gifts on here.
I hope you have a lovely Christmas.

You chose perfectly and lovely card too- am very lucky smile

Purpleknickers Mon 03-Dec-12 14:23:26

Awww loving this thread ... thanks mumsnet towers for organising it all. I have sent mine today but the lady in the post office was very stern with me as for the country it is going to I apparently had to put my full name and address on it. I said no no no this has to be anonymous and just put my house number & postcode. She tore the label up and insisted ... I'm sorry Santa blush

But anyhoooo I hope my match is pleased grin

WorraLiberty England Mon 03-Dec-12 15:50:46

MN216 I probably should have name changed too but couldn't be arsed to work out how to do it blush

I have no idea why I was nominated or who by but your gift certainly wasn't a cop out, it was perfect - thank you. And the two shops the gift cards were for, are almost next door to each other in the shopping precinct so double win! grin

Thanks again and Merry Christmas grin wine

SecretSanta170 Mon 03-Dec-12 17:43:37

SecretCervix MN170 I'm so glad you liked the presents for your dd. I really enjoyed choosing them.

Of course I don't mind you wrapping them up for her - I just left them unwrapped so you could check they were suitable. (You can tell her they're off FC if you like!)

Sorry to hear you've had a rough year - you're not someone I've come accross on MN so I didn't know (I'm more of a lurker really). Wishing you and your family a Very Very Merry Christmas smile

<<now I seem to have a little something in my eye>>

SantaMN084 Mon 03-Dec-12 18:17:48

SecretCervix MN170 I nominated you (and MNHQ tracked you down after a name change wink). I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a much happier 2013 smile

MN084 I posted your present today. Another stalker here tracking down nearby shops grin I'm sorry it's not more but I hope you like it. And sorry about the glittery card!

cheesesarnie Mon 03-Dec-12 20:28:09

FairyPenguin - you are so lovely smile. Thankyou so, so much! Do you know how amazing it is to explain to the children that a complete stranger has sent such a lovely gift!

SantaMN050 Mon 03-Dec-12 20:40:25

DesperateHousewife21 - I've PM'ed you smile

NiniLegsInTheAir Mon 03-Dec-12 20:46:11

MN140, so sorry, I missed your parcel's delivery and have only just picked it up! Thank you so much for DD's present, it's a toy she hasn't got and one I had myself as a child so always wanted to get her one smile. I'm really looking forward to giving it to her on xmas day!

Wishing you and yours a very merry and peaceful xmas! thanks

MN140 Mon 03-Dec-12 21:23:12

It's was a pleasure Nina.

I have a DS of a similar age and he loves his so I hope she likes it.

I hope you don't mind that I didn't wrap it, I just wanted you to be able to see it in case it was a duplicate or you didn't like it.

It's only a small gesture but it was sent with love, Merry Christmas x

NiniLegsInTheAir Mon 03-Dec-12 21:47:40

That's fine that it wasn't wrapped MN140, I love an excuse to wrap gifts! grin If anything it will stop her from running off with my phone! Thanks again, and merry christmas thanks

RibenaFiend Mon 03-Dec-12 21:51:20

OOOH!!! I'm posting mine out tomorrow! Very excited but a little apprehensive as I possibly got carried away and it's a little on the heavy side! smile

flowerytaleofNewYork Mon 03-Dec-12 21:59:31

Well I was nominated, and was very shocked, embarrassed and slightly teary.

I'm not at all in need financially, but I did accept. MNHQ made it clear it was about thanking people for support they've given, and also asked that nominations be accepted in the generous and appreciative spirit they were made.

So I did just that - I would have felt a bit ungracious not accepting tbh.

Anyway, just wanted to say much thanks to whoever nominated me, and if it's because I've helped you, I'm so glad, and hope it made a difference to whatever situation you were in.

smile

I'm ever so curious as to who nominated me, I havent been here long although do post on a few boards frequently mostly about my mums illness before she passed away. Whoever you are you are lovely and have made a bleak time somewhat easier knowing we are thought of.

McPhee Mon 03-Dec-12 22:17:04

I'm curious who nominated me too

PeskyRat Mon 03-Dec-12 23:13:39

What happens when a gift is bought, delivered to recipient (according to online delivery status) but no thanks if forthcoming on here?

Keep thinking it may have been posted through letterbox (vouchers) but not actually received IYKWIM?

I'm being impatient I know, but it's my first time donating and I'm itching to know it's all gone smoothly.

aristocat Mon 03-Dec-12 23:24:37

Love love this time of year smile Will be posting my parcel later this week too ......

BOFingSanta Mon 03-Dec-12 23:29:31

I wouldn't worry, Pesky- if they're anything like me they don't open post for days. Hopefully you'll get some news soon.

MNSantaRecipient031 Mon 03-Dec-12 23:39:20

I am so honoured to be thought of and to receive a nomination.
Thank you so much to MNSanta031 for the vouchers which will certainly put a shiny spin on what might be a strange and sad Christmas for this household.
Your generosity is overwhelming and I shed tears of just pure emotion when I opened the envelope and saw them. This has totally made our Christmas.
Words are really not enough. I hope your Christmas will be delightful.
Thank you, with tears and snuffly hugs.

MerryLindor Mon 03-Dec-12 23:53:36

Madsometimes made me cry. What a lovely gift

SantaMN191 Tue 04-Dec-12 00:24:56

I need to just leave a message for the soon to be recipient M191.

I posted to something to you today. And I forgot to add in receipts that you need. So I only had a teeny tiny christmas card left in my bag (I was about to get on a plane - so trying to post before I left.)

Anyhow, I put the receipts in this tiny card, wrote your address on it in tiny fairy writing and posted it along with the main envelope. But I forgot to write anything in it. So if you get it first, it looks like I have sent you a folded receipt with no explanation. blush

I really hope they both arrive at the same time.....the other has a note in it, I promise!

Let's not even broach the subject of me posting the remaining book of stamps and my boarding pass in the post box also....

I really am a complete and utter boob! Can I be excused for having to get up at 5am. <<knackered>>

PeskyRatInASantaHat Tue 04-Dec-12 00:29:58

Thanks BOF.

I know you're right of course.

I've just got to get me some patience!

Santa169and217 Tue 04-Dec-12 00:30:59

MN169 & MN217

Posted your parcels today by Royal Mail.

SelotapeInMyHairExtensions Tue 04-Dec-12 00:36:36

Yo
u posted your boarding pass? Sorry but grin (thats the sort of thing I do)

SantaMN191 Tue 04-Dec-12 00:52:43

Yep, and the rest of my Christmas stamps. 10 minutes after mail collection.

And it was a fancy post box with a clear back??!! So it lay there mocking me.

Thank goodness for understanding ground staff!

Ok, quick question.

I've bought my gift and am about to post it today. But... I bought for the actual mumsnetter. And now I've read the thread I feel a bit bad I didn't buy for her DCs as well.

Do you think it would be ok to just send an amazon voucher for the DCs to share? It will only be for £10 though, what do you think?

Rachel130690 Tue 04-Dec-12 06:35:28

Can't believe you posted your boarding pass. That will be a strange one to receive smile

This is truly amazing.

IShallCallYouSquishy Tue 04-Dec-12 07:39:13

Right, presents are wrapped, I just need a box to put them in then its off to the post office. Hope my recipient likes them, though feel bad it's mainly for her DD. Was going to get a supermarket voucher but my stalking showed that her nearest one doesn't have a store in my town. Feel I should get something more for the MNer.

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname Tue 04-Dec-12 08:17:59

Don't worry if you don't get a thank-you. It took me a few days to find this thread. I'd forgotten or never knew there was a thank-you thread, so your recipient may just be hopeless but grateful, like me! blush

CuriosityCola Tue 04-Dec-12 08:35:18

tantrums I'm really worried about this as well. My mumsnetter has put in special requirements that she has a number of children...babies and older...two are adult. I need the confused emoticon back. It makes the voucher I bought seen a little rubbish if it is split by the number of people given (5+), but I can't afford to buy that many people. Am I going to ruin someone's Christmas treat?

SeasonallySnowyPeasant Tue 04-Dec-12 09:45:00

Of course you won't curiosity, you silly sausage! You aren't laying on Christmas single-handedly for the recipient, just sending them something to make them smile smile

jetstar Tue 04-Dec-12 10:45:19

Lovely thread grin

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney Tue 04-Dec-12 10:54:28

CuriousityI can't afford much either, but I am thinking if its sent with love and good spirits and received in the same way, then that will always be enough.

santarecepient031 I don't know anything about you, but your thank you was so full of honest emotion that I welled up and am a bit blubbery now. Alone in the house except for the dog who is looking at me like this confused you captured the spirit of the appeal in your post, a very happy Christmas to you and yours.

Right off to try to find a box to send to my recipient!!

Thank you very much to my donor, the number is MN034, the parcel arrived about 15 minutes ago smile. I've given the lovely advent calendar to ds2 to open the doors as, oddly, he is off school sick today with his asthma so it really cheered him up. It's really made my day, so thank you very much. Christmas time is always difficult for us now after losing Scarlett 2 years ago, she was born 2 years ago on Thursday and so this has come at a very good time.

Thank you to whoever nominated me too, such a lovely thing to do.

MN169 Tue 04-Dec-12 11:48:57

Just came on to say thank you to whoever the lovely person was that donated to me. smile

I'm still all bubbly at the thought of just being nominated and now that there is a gift here it has made me realise just how lovely this place is, it really put a smile to my face today when it came. Things have been hard recently this really helped for me to know that there are always people there.

I have kept one of the gifts for Xmas but DS managed to get to the Duplo brick package when I wasn't looking. hmm I couldn't take it back off him once he got the paper off, so he currently is having a brilliant time and has spread them all over the floor. grin The other gift is now being kept high up so the monkey doesn't get to it!

Thank you again, it was such a lovely thing to do. And thank you to the person who nominated me, I know you wont know who I am under the NC but thank you it really meant a lot. smile

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Tue 04-Dec-12 12:14:01

grin

I can't stay away from this thread, it's as lovely to read as finding out I was nominated was, and I can't wait to put a proper thank you up to my nominee and my santa.

Every post is like a little reminder of how lovely this time of year can be.

Keep 'em coming.

grin

I'm not going to name change for this as i wanted to thank my nominator as well as donator.

Mn recipient 191.

When i was nominated, i was worried that people would assume i was experiencing hard times and that there are far far more deserving people on mumsnet than me. Mnhq persuaded me that the gift is there as a lovely boost. Well, it has been.

I just wanted to explain to my donator/nominator that i had a terrible start to the year when i had my dd2 and got multiple blood clots in my lungs with days of being undiagnosed. I spent a while in hospital where my dd1 then refused to acknowledge me as i couldnt come home. After warfarin etc i'm fully on the mend and my dd2 is a blessing in our house. Dd1 is talking to me again.

But over the last two years, my dh's business went bust, people threatened to kill me and my children and we were forced to sell anything if value to rent a new home. This year my dh finally got a "proper" job, we moved into a decent house and are in the catchment for a lovely school for dd. ive relocated to a lovely area and life is good. Our finances remain a battle and today dh texted me to wish him luck as he went to court to file for bankruptcy. That is the best way for us to rebuild our lives.

I texted good luck opened my door to a very very generous card of vouchers. I'm not ashamed to say i sat and cried. I'm sorry my post is long but i really wanted to convey just how much it meant to have such generosity from a stranger. We are by no means destitute, and our life is amazing at the moment but your gift was the cherry on the cake for what feels like a new life emerging. Thank you .

SecretSantaMN187 Tue 04-Dec-12 12:30:04

I just wanted to let my recipient MN187 know that a second parcel is on its way to you. You should have received the first parcel a couple of days ago straight from the shop.

Oh and Doctorswife I really wish you and your family a wonderful christmas, the only way is up!

iwantavuvezela Tue 04-Dec-12 12:36:12

To my recipient MN063 - your "parcel" will be coming to you early next week - i have been away, and just wanted you to know that someone is thinking of you and preparing something for you!

SSMN187 shock I was just coming online to say ohmygosh thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm so sorry I've not had a chance to say thanks yet as we were on holiday until late on Sunday night and I'm only just catching up with online type stuff.

It was the loveliest surprise to come home and find a massive box, I don't think I made much sense explaining to DP where it had come from, but it was hard to justify to myself why we deserved it! DD is going to LOVE it, thank you so much, it ties in perfectly with her present from us smile

And you may have just made me cry a little with your message there about sending another parcel blush , you really really didn't need to do that!! You've been so generous already! I haven't read the whole thread yet so am going to go back and do so now. But, just wow, thank you so much you lovely lovely lady thanks

SecretSantaMN187 Tue 04-Dec-12 12:49:43

The smile I have now reading your post StopEatingThatMud will stay with me until Christmas. I'm glad you think she will like it.

You are so very very welcome

I love Christmas on MN grin

SecretSanta091 Tue 04-Dec-12 13:41:07

In the hopes that recipient MN091 is reading this post - I am very much looking forward to being part of this initiative and sending you and your DCs something for Christmas. My concern is that the presents will be very different depending on whether you have been nominated as a thankyou or because you are in need (or, indeed both). The e mail didn't give me any clue as to what you would like, or what would be useful. If you do read this post and could give me a hint whether you need basics or pampering, I would be really grateful - over thinking it I'm sure but I really want to make a relevant contribution to this heart warming scheme.

I seem to have something in my eye...

This (and the blankets) is Mumsnet at it's absolute best.

SecretSantaMN191 Tue 04-Dec-12 14:18:22

TheDoctorswife46 so glad they arrived safely, and so quickly.
Yesterday was a bit of an experience, as you may have read below!

However, I don't feel so much of a boob anymore.

Well a bit actually because DH thought I'd lost the plot when I started blubbing inexplicably at my iPad. blush

I wish you and your family a very peaceful Christmas, and my thoughts are with you today, I hope it goes well for your husband, he sounds very blessed to have such a supportive partner.

Take care of yourself x

ThankYouSecretSanta148 Tue 04-Dec-12 14:22:54

A very big thank you to secret Santa 148.

DP had left the parcel in the kitchen as I was asleep when the postie arrived. I came downstairs and spotted it and started muttering and swearing about my DP buying stuff we couldn't afford from eBay. But it was addressed to ME! shock grin

The presents are so perfect, I swear you must know my DC! One of the things had even been on my DS1's list for a few years and I felt bad that once again I hadn't got it. But there it was! You kind, generous, psychic, genius you. grin

AND a voucher for meeeeee. Without sounding all pathetic and woe is me but I don't usually get Christmas presents for me (and I genuinely don't mind) so it was so so nice to get a gift. I'll enjoy picking myself a treat. Thank you, thank you.

We've had a stressful few weeks recently and this was just the pick-me-up we needed. My DP is completely bamboozled by the whole idea of it and totally amazed at what a kind person you are.

I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas, you deserve it. thanks

<weeps a little>

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Tue 04-Dec-12 14:32:28

I don't think we know what number we are until we receive our parcels SecretSantaMN091

But I think you are lovely for asking that. x

SS191. I only just twigged that that saga with receipts etc was for me. Its given me such a laugh. Honestly, thank you so so much for such a kind gift. It really does mean everything to me today.

Next year i'll be on the donators list. Merry xmas everyone xxxxxxx (unmnetty kisses they are so nerrrr)

SecretSanta091 perhaps MNHQ can give you a clue?

MrsDeVere Tue 04-Dec-12 17:12:16

* curiosity* I have been very kindly nominated and I think I probably listed all DC's on my form just out of habit really. I wouldn't dream of expected a gift for all of them, specially oldest DS who doesnt even live at home!

Funnily enough this crossed my mind today and I thought blimey I hope whoever got me doesn't think they have to cater for my 19 year old son blush

I know very little about who I have been matched with so I am just going for a scattergun approach and sending lots of 'bits'.

Nothing flash because we are not well off but I wanted to be involved this year.

MN147
a ginormous thank you for my present which arrived on Saturday. I am overwhelmed by your generosity towards a complete stranger. I'd got back from hospital late the night before after an unexpected complication and am only well enough today to post.

I wish you and your family a very happy and peaceful Christmas. unmumsnety hugs

overthemill Tue 04-Dec-12 17:34:38

and also want to say just like someone else, that even just being nominated for it was enough really. That MNers had noticed me made me cry - though I do that a lot at the moment - and getting an actual gift was the icing on the cake. Next year, when I am well I will be a donor.

JustFabulous Tue 04-Dec-12 18:55:12

This thread is lovely and has brought back the lovely feelings I had when we were lucky enough to receive surprises in the post. Explaining to the children why someone they didn't know had sent them presents was tricky.grin.

I was a donor last year but didn't offer this year as I was worried last years gifts were crap as I never received a post saying they were received and enjoyed. I felt I couldn't donate again as I couldn't guarantee I could afford much. I so want to be able to join in next year though so will be saving hard.

SecretSanta148 Tue 04-Dec-12 18:56:58

Recipient 148 - thank you so much for your lovely message - I was all a bit teary! It was an absolute pleasure buying the gifts, and I'm so glad they weren't massively off-target. Have a lovely Christmas - and remember that voucher is for you and you alone grin.

RibenaFiend Tue 04-Dec-12 20:41:42

Bless you fabulous I'm sure the recipient was incredibly grateful and was so wrapped in the season that posting her thanks just slipped her mind. We can't all afford to send incredibly expensive gifts. I had a wobble about mine to my DM but as she sagely reminded me, it's the thought that counts, not the amount spent or number of gifts. wine

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Tue 04-Dec-12 21:12:00

I don't speak for everyone else, but I will be too busy being glad someone thought about me enough to send my kids a present, than rating the standard of it. The very fact that someone noticed and nominated me has filled me up, never mind the actual gifts themselves. They are the cherry to me. I am already so drunk on Christmas spirit that it's all amazing from that point forwards.

So stop worrying donors, you are all doing a lovely thing. Thinking of someone else at Christmas is an amazing, kind, charitable thing to do, and you are putting smiles onto a lot of faces. It's not about the presents, it's about the people you share Christmas with, and I've got my cup filled and overflowing with this thread. wine

Milliways Tue 04-Dec-12 21:13:40

All this talk of multiple parcels is giving me a wobble about "boring" gifts, but mine will be in the post tomorrow.

Off to write my Christmas cards now.

santarecipeint70 Tue 04-Dec-12 21:25:41

My parcel arrived tonight and I was overwhelmed by the generosity of my secret santa ..

I was soo touched when mn said i had been nominated. I've had a tough year emotionally but Its not like we are in need and I thought there must be others out there in more need than us but mnhq said it might be someone just wanted to say thank you for support so I agreed to accept the nomination

I didnt know what to expect..but I certainly didnt expect the pile of presents that arrived tonight.
Little one was delighted with the toys and the sweeties. We thought all the pressies were brilliant and we thought the gift card on top was just too generous

But what really made this parcel special was the butterfly you gave us in memory of our darling son stillborn 8.5 years ago.. we are going to find pride of place for it amongst the christmas decorations

When we light our candles we will think of you and yours

so a huuugee thank you from our family to yours

hope you have a fabulous christmas and hope 2013 is good to you all

feeno Tue 04-Dec-12 21:37:36

Recipient MN065 here.

A HUGE thanks to both the sender of the gifts and the person who nominated me. I really and honestly don't feel deserving and almost ignored the many requests from MNHQ to accept and provide my details. They are a rather persistent lot aren't they! plus I was tired of being sat on in an attempt to get me to cough up my details

I absolutely adore the Lamaze toy for DS2 and so does he! (DS1 had the firefly when he was teeny so the peacock is perfect for his lil brother). DS1 is loving his new books and I've scoffed one of the box of chocolates already.

It's been a pretty shitty year and I'll be glad to see the back of it but I'll always remember Dec 2012 as the time that the kindness of strangers gave me hope for the future.

Thank you soooooooo much. I feel overwhelmed by the lufflyness. Wishing all of you a merry Christmas! smile

Forrecipient70 Tue 04-Dec-12 23:07:06

MN070,
I am so pleased you liked the gifts. It was an absolute pleasure to choose for you both and I'm particularly glad you liked the butterfly. I have mine on the tinsel on our bannister in the hall. We see it as we come home.
Not sure if you opened all of them, if so I hope you also found the small one for you inside the bigger one, if that makes sense grin.
Wishing you all a magical Christmas and a wonderful 2013. x

YankNCock Wed 05-Dec-12 01:48:19

I was going to be anonymous, but wanted to say a huge thank you to whoever nominated me too! I've not been on MN as much as I used to be, was very surprised to get the email.

And now to say thank you so much SS217, I received the parcel today. As soon as I saw that it said 'The mumsnetter of the house', I burst into tears and kept blubbing off and on all evening. Then there was husband asking 'where did these come from?', and us both marvelling at the generosity of a complete stranger. We've decided if we're even just a bit better off next year we will sign up to be on the giving end of the appeal. The boys will wait till Christmas to open the gifts, thanks for the cute notes saying what's in them, I know DS1 especially will be happy to have new books and a fun new activity. The baby is less particular, but I'm quite pleased to have some things for him that aren't hand-me-downs :-)

It has been a pretty crappy year, and the last few weeks especially had just about killed any enthusiasm I had for Christmas. Now I am actually looking forward to putting up the tree, I need somewhere to put the gifts!

Thanks again, whoever you are, you've actually given me some proper Christmas cheer.

MOSagain Wed 05-Dec-12 08:17:54

I'm hoping to get mine in the post early next week. Something I wanted to buy was a special order so am just waiting for that. <peers out out of window looking for postman and notices its just started snowing!>

SecretSantaMN065 Wed 05-Dec-12 09:16:38

I'm so glad the presents arrived safely and that you all like them grin

It gave me an enormous amount of pleasure choosing stuff (I took the easy option of choosing things my DS loves wink)

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas smile and that 2013 brings you lots of happiness, health and success!

Thank you so very very much for your fantastic parcel! So well thought out and i was JUST thinking the day it arrived that I need a mobile for the noob now he's starting to look around himself.

Thank you thank you thank you. I am so appreciative and still can't believe I have been nominated. I thought long and hard about accepting/declining the nomination as I am certainly not in need and I didn't want to take away from anyone who deserves/needs this pick me up much much more than I do, of which I am sure there are many. But the email from MNHQ basically told me to be grateful and graceful in acceptance - so I was.

Thank you again and thank you to whoever nommed me. I think I know why.

Next year I will pay it forward, I promise. I wish I'd known about this appeal this year.

Ps I am so sorry it's taken me a couple of days to reply with thanks, but I've been lost in a haze of breastfeeding and fighting 2 & 3 year olds!! not to mention my geriatric dog eating shitty nappies out of the bin boak x

BlameItOnTheCuervoHoHo Wed 05-Dec-12 09:47:57

Secret Santa 016, thank you so much for the present. ds will love it! thanks

Haribojoe Wed 05-Dec-12 10:11:56

Am off to the post office tomorrow with my parcel, got everything crossed that "my family" like it.

I love being part of this and loom forward to it every Christmas, the little Haribos think it's really exciting to buy gifts for a family we've never met.

Ooooh posting this has filled me with Christmas spirit grin

There have been a few recipients posting who seem to feel a bit guilty about receiving, and not feeling deserving...

I'm sure I'm not the only person who will say this....don't.

I can't tell you how much pleasure and fun it's been to be a Secret Santa this year, the "givers" are having just as much fun as the receivers believe me!

DeckTheHallsWithBartimaeus Wed 05-Dec-12 11:43:11

Totally agree binfull

I loved giving to my recipient! We have a very small family so I don't have many presents to buy but I love giving presents!

I have to admit to having searched for posts by my recipient and I couldn't think of a more deserving person!

Santa021 Wed 05-Dec-12 12:54:50

MumsNetter 021, I posted your parcel yesterday recorded delivery and hopefully it should arrive today.

TwasTheDawnDeeforeXmas Wed 05-Dec-12 13:11:14

Posting mine today!

coff33pot Wed 05-Dec-12 13:29:11

Posted my parcel off on monday grin grin Nice happy thread!

NagooHoHoHo Wed 05-Dec-12 14:34:12

Hello smile I am MN134 thanks

This is a truly amazing thing to be a part of thanks

I got a man come to the door with a couple of boxes, he couldn't pronounce the surname 'Mumsnetter' to save his life grin

My DC will absolutely love the gifts thank you, and I am astonished by the generosity of strangers. Thank you thank you thank you. It is so thoughtful. I got a follow up box today with wrapping paper and some more gifts! I feel Christmassy beyond imagining thanks

I am so grateful to be nominated, I hope that means I have made somebody smile over the past year's MN-ing. I know that you lot have made a massive difference to my sanity this past year.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful gifts.
Thank you for whoever nominated me.
Thank you MNers for being fabulously marvellous all year round thanks

wine <cheers>

TheJoyfulChristmasJumper Wed 05-Dec-12 14:51:17

Definitely binfull! I posted mine on Monday and have been obsessively watching the thread to see if it arrived safely it is so much fun being this end of things. smile

NagooHoHoHo Wed 05-Dec-12 14:59:39

I didn't see the give-y thread until the last minute, and the stupid work PC wouldn't let me register blush

I must unhide the MN-stickeys.

MN183 here.

Thank you so much for the gifts for me and the dcs, I'm resisting the temptation to have a sneaky look --it may kill me-, its so exciting to know I have something to unwrap, and the dcs were very excited to put them under the tree. Dd is most impressed with the wrapping paper and has already told me and ds we must open them very carefully so she can keep it for her craft box grin
Also a huge thank you to whoever nominated me, I've no idea why tbh but knowing I was thought of is absolutely lovely.

Thank you so much, the kindness of strangers is most humbling. And I'm blaming the pregnancy hormones for the fact it keeps making me blub smile

NagooHoHoHo Wed 05-Dec-12 16:08:34

Maybe I should POAS? wink

MN050 3 boxes.

They arrived today, I literally couldn't believe by eyes when I saw what was in them all. You have been more than generous, ds was VERY excited about the choc and flumps are his fav!
All the toys on the gift lists you made all sound perfect and I can't wait for them to be opened on the day. I'm very much looking forward to opening my gifts too. This year has been quite tough financially and we could never have done this on our own so you really have made our Christmas.

I hope you and your family have a merry Christmas and because of your loveliness we can too smile

MNer129 Wed 05-Dec-12 18:29:00

Dear Norks,

Thank you so much for the box of thoughtful goodies that you sent to us. The presents for me were wrapped so prettily that it was almost a shame to open them, but I have and they are all fab - thank you. Love the decs too, especially the angel. Please don't tell my Mum that I've opened everything before Christmas though, or I'll be in trouble wink

DD is two and will be fighting it out with MrK for the chocolate reindeer. We will also have lots of fun buying her something sparkly with her voucher. I will in future suggest that she cultivates a liking for gin and we'll raise a glass to you.

Sending Christmas wishes and smooches your way xx

Santa169and217 Wed 05-Dec-12 18:32:12

YankNCock I am so glad they arrived and are ok. Feel free to rewrap if you want to check the titles etc smile

ooh I have finally just wrapped my parcel up to take to the post office tomorrow - I am so excited to go and post it! I wish I had been able to put more in it, if ever I end up with any lots of money I shall definitely be sending the best boxes ever...anyway, it was still loads of fun taking part.

RecipientMN007 Wed 05-Dec-12 19:15:47

A huge thank you to my Secret Santa.

I wasn't going to accept my nomination but MNHQ sent a very persuasive email.
I don't know who nominated me but I was thrilled that someone would think of me.

I've had a truely horrible day so to arrive home to a lovely parcel containing lots of wrapped gifts and some very generous giftcards has really lifted my spirits.

Also, thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely Christmas message - unfortunatley despite the MN007 tag I don't have Daniel Craig lurking anywhere!

SantaMN050 Wed 05-Dec-12 20:31:17

DesperateHousewife21 so glad all boxes arrived intact (sorry about the amount of selloptape you had to get through to get in them!). I enjoyed every minute of creating surprise parcels, and I'm glad you have gotten as much joy from receiving as I have from sending. smile

SecretSantaMN147 Wed 05-Dec-12 20:35:09

Dear overthemill

I was having a bit of a bad day. Not dreadful, just irritating, just lots of little worries and stresses piling up.

I clicked on this thread and was reading through and as I read I was feeling bad that I hadn't done piles of thoughtful beautifully wrapped presents. I'd known that I wouldn't get chance to do anything like that, but I just wanted to play a part and spread a bit of Christmas spirit... It was something quick and easy to buy but so many good wishes for you lie behind it.

And then I saw your post and grinned ear to ear like this grin (because I am of course wearing my Santa hat).

We are indeed strangers, I don't think we've even ever been on the same threads, but thank you for your Christmas wishes for me and my family. I wish you a quick return to health, lots of happiness, a wonderful Christmas and a New Year where everything you ever hoped might happen for you and your family all comes at once. Unmumsnetty hugs to you too - your post made my day.

thegreylady Wed 05-Dec-12 20:35:46

Posted mine Friday-I do hope it arrives-no word on here yet.

shazian Wed 05-Dec-12 21:03:42

MN173, i received your lovely gift today. I cannot tell you how much it means to me, for a complete stranger to be so generous and thoughtful. I had forgotten i was nominated for the mn xmas appeal, so it was the most amazing surprise.

Your card was lovely and i was in tears reading it, it is the nicest thing i ever received from anyone, just to know someone else, a stranger can be so thoughtful and think of you is just beyond words. I will treat myself thank you so much and im sure DS will be over the moon with his present too.

You really have made my week, my hubby was so blown away with your kindness and lovely words too that he was almost in tears, in fact even our youngest DS age 10 keeps talking about the lovely lady and keeps saying mum sure there are lots of nice people in the world smile.

Hope you and your family have the best ever christmas, hope santa is good to you all, very best wishes in 2013.

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart xxxxx

NorksAreTinselly Wed 05-Dec-12 21:40:10

This thread makes me happy grin

BeeMom Wed 05-Dec-12 21:53:15

I received a GC in the post yesterday. Thank you so VERY much... Christmas here was bound to be dismal - now I can get a little something for both of the DCs. You are amazing!

SecretSanta008 Wed 05-Dec-12 21:58:17

MN008 I also posted something last week. I don't have any way of tracking the parcel but just wanted to say that I haven't forgotten you and if there's a postal problem and you get in touch I can easily sort something else out smile

Fillybuster Wed 05-Dec-12 23:10:24

cfc I'm so glad it all arrived...I'm sorry it's only 'little' things, but I do hope you enjoy your bits on xmas day (and remember: no peeking!)

MrsDV - I admit to ignoring the older 2 dcs for one of my 'secret santas'...I wasn't sure if they were still at home, and I had specifically offered something for the MNer (in that instance) rather than the dcs, so I just put in a few things for their littlest dc alongside the 'real' gift.....

<panics that MrsDV will be recipient of probably inadequate gift....>

SecretMN050 I think MNHQ may have got their spreadsheets in a twist....there's a parcel from me heading your way too (if it isn't one of the 3 boxes you mentioned!) Although I don't think I've been as organised or generous as your other donor.....confused blush so please don't be disappointed when you open the one from me!

Fillybuster Wed 05-Dec-12 23:11:26

Sorry, that last bit was intended to be for DesperateHousewife21, not SecretSantaMN050.....arrghhh..... grin

everydayaschoolday Thu 06-Dec-12 01:07:34

Hi Filly Your parcel arrived first for DesperateHousewife21, on Monday I think. Your thank you is at the top of page 10 and she absolutely loved your gifts! xx

Recipient111 Thu 06-Dec-12 09:15:36

So excited - my parcel arrived today! Very grateful as tbh it has been a bit of a rubbish year - a lengthy bout of glandular fever, dh overseas for the best part of a year (9 months to go!) and recurring bouts of depression (none of which makes it onto mumsnet under my usual nickname). Many, many thanks to the generous sender - haven't unwrapped it yet but it doesn't sound as though anything is broken inside! (Fragile sticker!)

Snapespeare Thu 06-Dec-12 09:24:41

Might be sniggering a little at 'recipient 069' Sorry.

grin

SS024

Package arrived yesterday thank you so much, lots of little bits & bobs for Christmas which are much needed & sweets for the stockings which I fear may not last that long as the DD's fell upon them as soon as I opened the bag!!

The gift bags & lovely paper will make it a real pleasure to wrap the few prezzies I've got for family this year -your timing is impeccable as this w/e the DD's are with their Dad so I was going to have a day of sorting out & wrapping while I can. Your card & sweet words made me all warm & fuzzy & yes dear reader I wept! Also my first card of the season.

So thanks too for my nominator <narrows eyes at suspect> norty Mn-er I think I can guess who it was but that was very sweet to think of us.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! wine grin

Fillybuster Thu 06-Dec-12 10:43:25

Thank you for the perfect pressies. God bless you and my nominator. I wish I knew who you both are but I understand the need for anonymity. I'm really stumped as to why anyone would think I'm deserving. Thank you thank you thank you. Xxx

Hello Secret Santa MN156

How would you like me to use the voucher? You haven't specified. It's addressed to me, but I have two children who I can't really afford to buy presents for, so if you have no preference, I can use it to get some stuff off of their wish list? Just wanted to be sure that is your intention, only I would find it difficult to spend it on myself when they need it more than I do.

Thank you so much for your generosity. And to my nominator.

This year has been absolutely awful for me, my health is very poor as I have inflammatory arthritis and kidney disease and I've had all sorts of escapades trying to get care sorted, money sorted (still fighting my DLA appeal!) and then this Autumn housing sorted as we became threatened with homelessness.

On top of that, my DD has behavioural issues which I have been trying to get help for since she was two, and it hasn't been taken seriously until she started reception this year. Finally we are getting somewhere, but it's a long slow process, and she delights in giving me very big frights (like the night she escaped the house and was brought back by the police).

Her long suffering brother, my DS, has his own issues to deal with as he has a mild hearing loss and is getting used to wearing his hearing aid, and to having a sick mummy and difficult sister. He has also now been picked up as potentially having some difficulties similar to his sister by schools SENCO.

Things are a long way from sorted, but we are getting there, we are taking the steps to get there. And Christmas is a time where we all forget about that and have fun as a family, so this will help to bring us that little respite period and to put a smile on our faces.

For that I am truly grateful.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. To my donor, my nominator and to Mumsnet for being the haven that keeps me sane.

bochead Thu 06-Dec-12 11:15:44

MNsanta 021

Thank you so much!

What a wonderful suprise we got this morning. As we are on benefits your gifts WILL make a huge difference to our Xmas this year. More than that though, is the wonderful warm fuzzy feeling we've gotten from your gift.

My son is now determined to be as kind as he can to the smaller kids at school, in the hope of "spreading the good feelings Mum".

It's not often I cry, but I was just so touched by your kindness this morning.

Firawla Thu 06-Dec-12 12:55:55

I don't know who mine is from but i got a red card through today from the postman (i was in!! postman clearly didnt bother to ring the doorbell!) but I'm having it redelivered on sat and i was quite excited even by the red card so sure I will be even more excited when I get the actual parcel!

And there is nothing for any dp as I didn't know if there was one. But I hope you enjoy it all anyway.

dearest cardamomginger

I cant really explain how receiving your card/gift lifted my spirits today - it really is so kind. If i ever needed a boost, the kindness shown here was it. I am absolutely thrilled.

I ummed and arghed about filling in my details to send back to HQ when i got the email to say i had been nominated - i didnt really feel i deserved it, but someone took the time out of their day to nominate, for which i was very touched, and i was equally touched today to receive such a lovely and incredibly generous and versatile gift.

im going to pm you this message too just in case you miss it among all the jolly santas thanking all you lovely mumsnetters.

thank you lovely cardamomginger

I am Secret Santa 156 and I didn't send you a voucher, so I hope that means that you have TWO Secret Santas this year! From your description of you and your family's circumstances you are definitely my recipient.

I posted a parcel off to you this lunchtime - just a few bits for you and your DCs. Almost everything is wrapped up (apart from a couple of late additions to the parcel) so no peeking until Christmas Day smile

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, from SS156 and family x

SarahStrattonIsMN0167 Thu 06-Dec-12 17:47:05

To MN167

I received the most wonderful parcel in the post today. We were so excited that I'm afraid we couldn't manage to wait until Christmas to open it.

It was like opening an amazing treasure trove of all the things I absolutely love. Either you knew you'd got me, and you've spent a fair old time happily stalking, or you are quite simply a genius present giver. I love, love, love every single thing you gave us.

And then I opened your card, read your lovely message, and saw the attached voucher and burst into tears.

You have honestly made Christmas for us. I've never received a Secret Santa before, and it is the best gift I have ever got. That gift is faith in people, I don't know if you've read my threads, and knew that I was having a bad time, but thank you so much. I can't believe that someone I have never met could give me such a wonderful, and generous gift.

Thank you so much, from the very bottom of my heart.

Love

Oh Stratters, you've only gorn and made me cry now.

I didn't know who I was sending it to so don't worry, I haven't been stalking you I promise! You won't know me (I lurk more than I post) but I actually did post on one of your recent threads so I know (now I know who you are) that you have been having a hard time.

I'm therefore really glad I got you and I'm so pleased that you liked the presents. I chose things that I would like myself and you were meant to open it before Christmas so you can use your voucher.

I love buying presents and it's such a joy to be able to give them to someone so deserving and lovely (instead of buying them for ungrateful dysfunctional family members!).

Hope you and your family have a relaxing joyful Christmas and I hope that things are on the up for you in 2013.

I'm slightly overcome that there's more than one donor, this is shockingly generous and I feel extremely lucky with one donor, never mind two.

I'm so very thankful though because you are making my Christmas special at a time when I've been feeling so bad about not being able to do what I usually do at Christmas.

I know it's not about how much you give, but I'd gotten to the point of being so skint we were eating out of a food bank at one point, so I was really concerned about being able to do anything much at all with getting accommodation sorted being priority over everything else.

As it was, I actually organised for them to go to their dads' houses so that I knew they would get something as I wasn't going to be able to afford much at all. So our Christmas celebration is actually going to be in January after they come back, as I am sending them both off on the 20th and spending Christmas by myself (cleaning and sorting through their rooms, joy to the world!). I will be able to hopefully take advantage of the sales before they get back with the voucher, and am thus very touched that I also have a parcel coming. I hope you can wait for Christmas Mark Two - The January Tales DonorsMN156. It's not the cherry on the cake, it's a blooming triple cherry cake with cherries on top!

maillotjaune Thu 06-Dec-12 19:59:21

I'm getting paranoid mine hasn't arrived now, posted it last Friday.

It was only a voucher but I've had cards disappear in the post before so put it in an envelope with a small catalogue and now I'm wondering if someone thought it was junk mail blush

MN158 Thu 06-Dec-12 20:06:13

MN158, I hope it was ok to leave your parcel on your doorstep. Happy Christmas to you and yours from your secret Santa! Ho ho ho.

Ee I'm so excited smile still feel amazed to be nominated reading this thread has injected some much needed Christmas spirit. After losing mum three weeks ago then my stay in hospital I generally couldn't be bothered but seeing you all being so lovely has truly awakened my Christmas spirit. I still feel overwhelmed and sad but you've shown that there is still good going on in the world. To my nominee and ss whoever it will be you are a shiny light when things have been pretty bleak.

MNer173 Thu 06-Dec-12 20:09:36

To shazian this is MN173. I am so glad your card & giftcards arrived safely smile I'm sorry my gift wasn't more imaginative, but I thought perhaps vouchers would be the safest bet!

You are truly welcome - really and truly it was my pleasure. My heart went out to you and your ds after what he went through this year, and especially as is so hard for him to communicate and tell you if he was in pain, and I just wanted to let you and your family know that someone was thinking of you. I will continue to look out for your posts in SN and to see how ds2 is doing.

I will go now as I am welling up writing this <sob>. But I will graciously accept your ds3's compliment about being a "kind lady" he must have mistaken me for someone else, if only he knew what a shouty old witch I really am grin

Wishing you all a very, very happy Christmas xxx

shazian Thu 06-Dec-12 20:26:45

Awww MN173 i could cry again. I honestly appreciate the thought and the lovely card, and obviously the gift cards too, i thought it was way too generous. To be honest i was amazed to be nominated in the first place, but really didnt expect anything like the amount i received thought would be a box of chocs or wee book for ds. Anyway, it just makes me realise as ds3 said there are lots of kind people in the world.

Me and hubby are still going on about it today, i cannot tell you how truly grateful I am, for you to be thinking of me and ds really tugs at my heart. DS doing amazing for now, long may it last after 1 year off school we have got him back in few hours each day, so onwards and upwards. Was bit down as he is 12yrs old in 2 months whilst in hospital for reassessment they did lots tests etc and was told his developmental age is just 6 months to 12 months at most, with not much chance he progress very much.

My mum was filling up too when i told her. You really are an angel, i cannot believe how kind youve been. I will treasure the card forever, and im off into town tomorrow to treat me and ds with your generous gift vouchers.

I never knew anything about this xmas appeal until day before nominations ended, i then nominated someone. However, i never actually knew too much about it never realised i could be secret santa. So i cannot wait until next year and i am going to be SS too and put the biggest smile on someone elses face.

I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

Hope you have a brilliant christmas & best wishes in 2013 xxxxx

I'm really touched. Thank you so much for your generosity. I suspect it shall be used by DS but I'm going to have a good look & see if there is anything I might like too. Or perhaps something we can all share together, like a game. That way, every time we play, I shall be reminded of the kindness of whoever nominated me and of my secret Santa.

Thank you, thank you, thank you smile

valpolliandtheivy Thu 06-Dec-12 21:58:58

You know when directors want actors to cry? And they use the stick of vapour rub stuff under their eye to make them teary?

Fuck that. Just get them to read this thread <snotty mess>

Mnetter158 Thu 06-Dec-12 23:09:57

I wanted to say a big thank-you to both my Secret Santas. Your presents arrived safely yesterday. I was delighted but didn't feel worthy of being nominated, and really don't feel I deserve two such lovely, thoughtful presents (we won't open them 'properly' until Christmas, but I confess I have had a little peek at each of them).
Hand-delivered-Secret-Santa - I must have missed you by an hour at most - I'm disappointed I didn't get to meet you in person to say thank-you, but your parcel was a wonderful surprise when we returned from our walk in the 'snow'.
Secret-Santa-by-post - You are far more talented than me.
I am overwhelmed by the generosity and time you have each spent on a present for someone you haven't met. Thank-you and Merry Christmas to you and your families!

SecretSantaByPost158 Fri 07-Dec-12 08:22:00

Mnetter158 Merry Christmas! smile I'm so glad that you like the presents - I hope they're the right size. I didn't wrap them because I thought you might want to use them before Christmas, so I hope you didn't mind the lack of pretty paper. Have a wonderful Christmas.

BiscuitNibbler Fri 07-Dec-12 09:08:40

I'm starting to worry my parcel never arrived - posted it Monday. sad

I wish I had paid the extra for tracking now. I hate to think of someone nominated, expecting a parcel and then nothing arriving, leaving them thinking no one bothered.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant Fri 07-Dec-12 09:21:15

I don't know if mine's arrived yet either, posted last Friday. I didn't even think of using recorded delivery blush It's going to the other end of the country too. If someone's nicked it, may all the needles fall off their tree angry

rubycon Fri 07-Dec-12 11:06:04

NN163

Wow! What can I say? Thank you so much its wonderful doesn't come close smile I've watched both of the series and am really looking forward to the Christmas Day programme. You couldn't have got me anything better smile

I don't know who you are, or why you nominated me - but you have made my Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you and everyone else who has been so generous. x

MOSagain Fri 07-Dec-12 12:37:58

Its lovely reaading this thread, really cheers me up.
I'm another one worried though that my gift hasn't been received. It was supposed to have been delivered last Friday. Just hope it has got there ok

HappyAsEyeAm Fri 07-Dec-12 12:47:07

MN158, I am your secret santa by hand. So glad you receieved the presents. I didn't wrap them as I wanted you to decide whether they were what you wanted to give to your DC. Have a wonderful Christmas.

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 07-Dec-12 13:22:10

I'm overwhelmed. The gift voucher was lovely and generous from my first donor, and now I come downstairs after sleeping off a hellish night with my DD, who decided to be awake about half the night, and I've opened a box of delights. The little blankets are wonderful for the children, I can't wait to show them.

And the presents, well!

I re-experienced that feeling from childhood where you carefully open the box, with the fizzy tummy feeling, and then that moment where you see the presents, and you know that "he" exists and came for you and there is that wonderful stash of goodies. And you are frozen in that moment, for a second, because it looks perfect and wonderful and you are excited beyond belief, then Christmas day starts and you all dive in and it's family time, bacon rolls on the go with mum, your brothers and sisters squeals of delight.

You've captured that and put it in a box for me, Christmas Magic. I shan't open them, but that feeling, I wish I could bottle it up and take it out every time things feel a bit sad or mad or bad.

To know that people care, that is the best gift of all. I try so hard to capture in words how I feel, I hope even a teeny bit of it comes across so you can know how deeply grateful I am. From the shock of being nominated, until today, I've had a little bubble of happiness that I am keeping hold of, it's getting me through the tougher times. Thank you.

I have put my cards up over the fireplace, and I am looking forwards to Christmas too, having something to unwrap myself, before I call the kids and see how they are being treated. And then having their presents to give to them when we do it all again the second time. grin

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname Fri 07-Dec-12 13:31:34

Don't worry too much, those of you who haven't heard anything. I never knew about this thread or had forgotten blush so it took me a few days to come across it. I've thanked my lovely donor MN 060 Secret Santa last week, but they haven't been on this thread either.

I am hovering on the thread ready to thank my lovely fellow mnetters, thats why i keep reapperaring, and to read all the lovely stories and cry abit. Its just lovely to hear people so happy really lifts my dismal mood to see christmas in motion!

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 07-Dec-12 13:43:44

I can't leave it alone waiting. Each time someone posts I'm all exciting again. This is better than any advent calendar. I wish we could have pictures too. I am going to take some of the kids to share with my donors and nominator, so they can see some of the happiness they've brought into our home. I shall be encouraging them to write thank you notes too as my little girl can now almost write her whole name and is very pleased with herself, and my DS always writes the loveliest things. I can't believe I made them both to be honest, I look at them growing up doing these amazing things and I think WOW!

MN105 Fri 07-Dec-12 13:46:46

smile Thank you so much for the lovely card and incredibly generous vouchers that you sent us. They arrived today. I thought the Pizza Express vouchers were a lovely idea. It will be so nice to go out and have a meal - it is something that we do very rarely at the moment. I will treat the DC with the HMV voucher and book token.

It is such a difficult time for us, and it makes it so wonderful to know that we were thought of by our nominator, and that you were kind enough to go out and treat us to something lovely, Secret Santa. I am very grateful. Thank you again.

I hope that you and your family have a really wonderful Christmas and that 2013 sees your dreams come true. Love and very best wishes MN105. thanks thanks thanks

Its so nice to see everyone come together in a good way. what you have wrote about your dc is lovely rabbits and im sure in years to come they will talk about their gift from a stranger. ds is having a really hard time at the minute he doesnt understand why his nanna couldnt get better and hes finding it all very difficult. When we go out people keep saying how awful christmas is going to be for us which is also having a knock on effect as hes worrying that we wont "do" christmas. Hes a tough cookie but being nominated and having something lovely ,whatever it may be when it turns up to cheer him up with has made my month.
I was nominated before all this happened so i cant imagine why i was but if it makes my ds smile even for a little time im so grateful.

Santa058 Fri 07-Dec-12 14:32:37

Just to let MN058 that your parcels are on the way!! But one went second class and that had a card and note to tell you what the wrapped presents in the other parcel are, but that one had to go first class so will reach you first. Sorry to make it all a bit complicated!

SecretSantaMN040 Fri 07-Dec-12 14:47:20

Mumsnetter040.
Your parcel has just been posted and should be with you tomorrow. Please open, there is an envelope inside that you need to read.
Sincere apologies for the wrapping, I do try hard, but I'm rubbish!

I popped your parcel in the post on Tuesday and so hopefully it will arrive very soon. grin

SecretSanta057 Fri 07-Dec-12 15:27:03

DutchOma You are so very welcome, and I'm glad it's reached you in good time. I'm kinda hopeless with gifting, so this was my best guess.

Big xmas hugs to you and your loved ones smile

FarelyKnuts Australia Fri 07-Dec-12 16:44:03

Don't know how to do namechange on the phone but just wanted to let lovely MN128 know that her parcel is wrapped and ready to go in the post Monday. Its coming from Ireland so hoping it doesn't take too long to get to you!!!

Mouseface Fri 07-Dec-12 17:15:13

Dear MN127

<sobs happy tears>

Wow! Your parcel arrived a few days ago and at first, I was a little taken aback at the size of it, it's HUGE! grin

I'm so very, very humbled to have been nominated in the first place but when I opened the box just now after waiting for little eyes and ears to be busy, I burst into floods of very happy tears!

You have gone to so much trouble! Luxury chocolates, biscuits, DVDs, toys, jewellery, little Christmas decorations, crafty stuff,

We are so lucky, my own relations don't go to this much trouble, yet here I am looking at it all wondering where to start.

<wipes eyes>

Nemo has just had major surgery on his cleft palate and ended up in PICU again with a serious bleed, he bled for 6 hours, it was a really fraught time for us all. Plus it meant DH and I being away from DD for 3 days as we were at Manchester Children's Hospital, so she's had a tough couple of weeks.

He's getting better every day, given that we've only been home for 2 weeks, but he's still in pain and the hole didn't close fully as first thought so we've got to go through it all again at some point

<wibble>

You have made Christmas 2012 in the Mouse house a much more festive one. I wasn't really feeling the Christmas spirit, just shear exhaustion so Thank you from the bottom of my little furry heart, from Nemo, DD and DH too.

You are a wonderful, selfless person, and I shall certainly Pay. It. Forward.

I hope that you and your family have a truly wonderful Christmas and a fantastic New Year.

With lots of love,

Mouse and family xx thanks xx

PS - sorry for any typos, I can't see through the happy tears! xx

imdreamingofaskyebluechristmas Fri 07-Dec-12 17:24:26

I posted mine a few days ago too, but havent heard anything :-(

Mouseface Fri 07-Dec-12 17:24:32

I meant to say "DEAR SECRET SANTA WHO GAVE TO MN127"

I'm MN127, I have no idea who my Santa is as there was no form or number.

I'm rubbish at this but I hope you read this thread and understand that the above message is for YOU!! xxxxx

Mouseface Fri 07-Dec-12 17:30:28

Also, (sorry to take up the entire thread) I've had some lovely vouchers through so whoever sent those to MN127, a HUGE thank you from the bottom of my heart.

They arrived this morning and I have decided that I am going to spend them on ME!!! grin xx thanks xx

I'm so very humbled by the kindness of others xx

FutTheShuckUp Fri 07-Dec-12 17:59:24

FutTheShuckUp Fri 07-Dec-12 18:00:30

Mouseface Fri 07-Dec-12 18:40:14

Fut - that's why I'm confused because I thought my gifts were from MN127, but that's me! grin

So, whoever my lovely Secret MN Santa's are, thanks x 1,000,000 and then some smile xx

TrazzleMISTLEtoes Fri 07-Dec-12 18:51:37

Mouse the donor doesn't have an ID, just the number to write on your parcel so effectively they are just secretsantayournumber

secretsanta071 Fri 07-Dec-12 18:58:00

futtheshuckup hello you are MN071grin

So glad you got your parcel I really enjoyed doing it, it was a pleasure.

thanks so much thanks

RecipientMN181 Fri 07-Dec-12 19:30:30

Thank you so much to the very kind Mumsnetter who sent my parcel. It is fabulous. I love all the little trinkets with the stones and the Angel and the DC loved their chocolate coins. The Gift Cards will be used for all of us to have a treat.

I felt quite teary when opening it. smile Big, big thank you and Happy Christmas to whoever donated to MN181. thanks

RecipientMN181 Fri 07-Dec-12 19:31:45

Sorry not 'donated' that sounds awful. Sent me my lovely parcel. grin

Mouseface Fri 07-Dec-12 19:38:55

Trazzle - oh, I see..... so I should have written "Recipient MN127 here, thank you very much..............."

Silly old me....... grin

Do you know something, I've just read the whole thread so far and the kindness of strangers means so much to so many people, people who you might have walked past earlier that day or week, with the weight of the world on their shoulders.....

The loss of a loved one, terrible news, a sudden change of circumstance, no work, no money, no one.....

You just don't know the difference that YOU are going to make. Sending a gift, a box with something for someone else inside, a smile, a hug, or even an 'it's okay'........

I love MNSS

You just don't know do you what your kindness will mean. smile

Disclaimer: - I am not just typing the above because I've received gifts.

SecretSanta0067 Fri 07-Dec-12 19:46:50

Happy Christmas MN0067.

Glad the package got there safely, not as spectacular as some others I suspect, but I thought that M&S would come in handy either for festive food, or a little treat for you.

The packets for the boys are just tiny stocking fillers, but I hope they'll like them - you are indeed correct in your guess about DC1's contents.

CoteDAzur Fri 07-Dec-12 19:56:09

I am one of the few who couldn't be persuaded to accept the nomination, but still would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have nominated me thanks

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 07-Dec-12 20:00:39

I would love to be able to send a card to anyone involved in the process of nominating or donating to me, so if anyone doesn't mind, you could inbox me your address, unless you wish to remain completely anonymous, in which case I will take a picture of your card and you can have it that way. grin

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 07-Dec-12 20:02:40

And in fact to anyone involved in the entire process for everyone, if you would like. How do I send to the ladies at Mumsnet who endured the spreadsheet?

Hello!
I don't know my MN number!
BUT, BIG BIG Thank You to MN 093 who sent me the lovely box of goodies!
I am not sure why I was nominated, but was very pleased to receive some lovely gifts for myself and ds.
We have had a tough year, and having someone we don't even know think of us so kindly has made me smile.
How lovely to get something nice in the post instead of bills!
Merry Christmas!

Glad my MNetter got their gift and I hope you enjoy it ...

Happy Christmas everyone ... This is what Christmas is all about for me ...

MN125 Fri 07-Dec-12 22:12:16

To Secret Santa 125

Thank you so much for my gift.

I have been having a horrible couple of weeks and receiving an envelope addressed to the Mumsnetter of the House brought a very rare smile to my face today.

As others have said, your generosity has made me want to do the same for someone else in next year's Secret Santa.

I hope you and your family have a fantastic Christmas and a very Happy New Year. smile

thanks

MyNutcrackerSuiteAudrina Fri 07-Dec-12 22:45:36

Fret not, MNers. I was getting worried about one of mine but it arrived safely after eight days. Very nail-biting it is, but there are so many reasons why it can be delayed and why people often can't get to or don't know about the thread.

Pictures would be lovely if people want to post them but this beautiful thank you Mumsnet video from 2010 sums it all up for me smile

For those of you with specks of dust already in their eyes you may want to have tissues and a stiff drink at the ready.

SecretSanta156 Fri 07-Dec-12 22:47:02

Rabbits

I'm so glad the box arrived (and so quickly. I only posted it yesterday lunchtime.)

Your words about it being a box of Christmas Magic really touched me. My favourite book, when I was a child, was What Katy Did at School. Katy and her sister are sent away to a boarding school and can't get home for Christmas, so their family and friends send them a wonderful box with all sorts of gifts in it. Mostly homemade, and all sent with love.

Our gifts to you and your family aren't homemade, but I hope you all enjoy them, which are sent with love from me and my family. I'd prefer to remain anonymous, but if you can post some pics on your profile I will definitely have a look.

Merry Christmas smile

SecretSanta156 Fri 07-Dec-12 22:48:42

Nutcracker That video is just beautiful.

<tissue emoticon>

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 07-Dec-12 23:09:58

I will ensure to have some very lovely pictures for you to see SS156. It will be January when I post them obviously since we are having a special late family Christmas. I'll hopefully still catch you then.

What Katy Did and the other books, were my favourites too. I was very much like her as a child, and I look forward to being able to give the books to my daughter to read in the future, since she's pretty like her too.

RabbitsMakeGOLDBaubles Fri 07-Dec-12 23:10:43

MN047secretsanta Fri 07-Dec-12 23:14:13

Dog Glad they have arrived. It was a quite hard I'll admit grin but not one to be defeated! Hopefully they'll enjoy. Merry Christmas to you and all on this thread both recipients and donors x

SecretSanta156 Fri 07-Dec-12 23:17:02

Very cool!

I wanted to be Katy (apart from the times when I wanted to be Jo from Little Women!)

I love that chapter in What Katy did at School with all the Christmas gifts, and them taking some of the biscuits and a scarf IIRC to the teacher who had been horrible to Katy...I'm going to have to read it again grin

I will definitely be around to see your pictures (lurking under my usual name)

wink

MN084 Fri 07-Dec-12 23:59:44

To SS084

The cards arrived some time today, I got home late tonight freezing cold and soaking wet. A hard day at work, missing my girls and feeling sorry for myself and a lot bit lonely and unloved. The sight of the cards with MNer of the House actually gave me palpatations and I felt (for the first time in years) that I needed a cigarette blush It just fe
