Hi, does anyone know where I can buy an elf soft toy/ornament please?
I want to do the 'elf on the shelf' this year but struggling to find an elf that doesn't cost nearly £30! Found a couple on amazon but estimated delivery is up to 6 weeks.

Any help appreciated.

Can't help I'm afraid but intrigued by what the 'elf on a shelf' is?

lumpybumpylooloo Sat 17-Nov-12 05:52:37

I found an elf on eBay. It was a Gund peppermint elf and cost approx £10 including P&P. It was a 'buy it now' brand new directly from company rather than putting in a bid. Had a quick look there and they still have them. They are quite small- only about 14 inches but very cute!!

jetstar Sat 17-Nov-12 05:53:44

therubyrange.info £22.50

lumpybumpylooloo Sat 17-Nov-12 05:58:42

Actually just lying here thinking about my elf and there's no way it can be 14 inches.... Maybe more like 6!!! Still half asleep!!!

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 06:53:53

You can get them from the book depository for slightly more but still over £20. They had an offer a while ago and I got mine for £17.50 so they may go back on offer although I'd be surprised this close to December.

It's the first year for me and I can't wait although still need to work out the details of arrival, no touch etc...

littlemissnormal Sat 17-Nov-12 06:56:37

I've just bought the Gund one and its very sweet!

jennimoo Sat 17-Nov-12 07:11:14

I bought this pattern and made him yesterday. He is super cute and can't wait for him to 'arrive' now!

Ilovecake1 Sat 17-Nov-12 07:17:58

Are you also going to buy the book to do elf on the shelf?

jennimoo Sat 17-Nov-12 09:52:15

DD is 2 so going to keep it fairly informal this year but might do my own book / letter next year to go with our elf. He's just going to bring goodies and activities this year really.

Huffpot Sat 17-Nov-12 10:12:05

lumpybumpylooloo who was the seller?
I really want a peppermint elf

NoHank Sat 17-Nov-12 10:14:09

Like lumpybumpylooloo and littlemissnormal, we bought the Gund peppermint elf from e-bay last year. I think he is a perfect size for getting up to all sorts of mischief.

We didn't do the book. Our elf arrived with a handwritten letter (thanks DH) introducing himself and explaining why he was visiting. We also watched the story being read online - you can find it on you tube.

DS loved it and is already asking if he will be coming back this year.

Have a look on ebay for vintage elf knee huggers, I got two gorgeous creepy ones from the US for £16, inc postage.

maxybrown Sat 17-Nov-12 10:23:57

I like this idea but not sure DS would be very very suspicious and a little freaked out hmm

OohMrDarcy Sat 17-Nov-12 10:24:03

Your local garden centre. I spent about £5 on a small soft knitted one... The shop has since clearly heard of elf on the shelf as they have a giant Christmas tree covered in them and also selling the proper elf on the shelf sets!

lumpybumpylooloo Sat 17-Nov-12 14:38:45

huffpot, sorry I just noticed your question there. I'm not in the house at the moment but I'll check as soon as I'm home and post who the seller was. I'll get back to you later.

Haribolicious Sat 17-Nov-12 15:47:25

I got our peppermint Gund Elf from ebayer Crusaderware and was really impressed with it! It's bigger than I expected and looks very cute (I looked around and some looked a bit creepy!) I then just made up our own letters and he brings advent calendars each year along with xmas socks and pj's....he gets up to lots of mischief and you can get loads of ideas online.

queenebay Sat 17-Nov-12 15:49:17

lumpybumpylooloo Sat 17-Nov-12 16:43:55

Huffpot, the seller I got my Gund Peppermint Elf from was Rutland Bears and Gifts. I got mine through eBay but they also have a website which is www.rutlandbearsandgifts.co.uk.

Lastyearsmodel Sat 17-Nov-12 16:52:01

I found a Scandinavian-looking elf in TK Maxx's Christmas section for £3. He's made of felt and is about 6" tall. He does have his hat pulled over his eyes so may have invent a story about 'magic peeping x-ray vision' or something.

Onlyhappywhenitsnows Sat 17-Nov-12 16:54:33

My elf is from the rubyrange too and I'm really pleased with him.
He is extremely cute, he's cute tall too. About 20".

clothaddict Sat 17-Nov-12 17:40:36

I bought a maileg one. I LOVE.

kiwidreamer Sat 17-Nov-12 20:52:49

Awwwww I really wish I had seen The Ruby Range elves before ordering my Fiesta elves from the US, they are really gorgeous! I didn't realise my elves had a potential six week delivery time, £25 and they might not arrive in time sad

Onlyhappywhenitsnows Sat 17-Nov-12 21:11:43

I have to say the ruby range lady is very nice too, she made my elf in accordance to how I wanted him! Hair colour, clothes, eye colour.

Huffpot Mon 19-Nov-12 08:59:22

I looked but had no luck with the Gund elves but also looked at Ruby Range and they're gorgeous.

The lady that makes them is lovely and I now have one being sent on Tuesday with a personalised introduction letter to my two little boys with direct positive encouragement from Santa re potty training and listening skills grin

beingginger Mon 19-Nov-12 11:30:15

I have a brand new elf on the shelf with book etc that I'm looking to sell if anyone is interested.

MarshmallowCupcake Mon 19-Nov-12 20:15:06

Our ruby range elf has just arrived too! Came within 2 days of ordering which is fantastic! I've got lots of ideas for the mischievous little elf to get up to and getting so excited. My charges got their letter from Santa tonight (mb sprinkled flour all over the fireplace in charge #1's bedroom - thats the sign that santa has been down the chimney and left flying dust!) saying that he's sending over an elf to stay with them till Xmas eve. The boys are 4 & 6 and were amazed at the letter that mentions so much about them :-))

maxybrown Mon 19-Nov-12 20:24:27

I ordered a ruby range one this morning, not sure how it will go down but let's see

Clothilde Mon 19-Nov-12 20:49:26

The peppermint elves are out of stock at bigfatballoons. I emailed them and they said that the new stock isn't due until 10th December. I'm now dithering between Ruby Range and a Maileg pixie.

thegreylady Mon 19-Nov-12 21:40:48

How much do you want for it poH?I would love one for my dgc-please pm me with details if it hasnt gone already smile

2anddone Tue 20-Nov-12 11:32:41

I got a cuddly elf on the shelf from www.purebaby.co.uk was £14 delivered and came within 2 days looks really cute too

Huffpot Fri 23-Nov-12 14:48:55

Marshmallowcupcake I like the delivery method for the letter.

My DS's are only 2 and 3 so won't deliver the letter until next Thursday or so as I think they wouldn't understand a long wait for their elf.

I am so excited!

cambridgemum2 Sat 09-Nov-13 12:50:45

They still have some at www.theelfcompany.com xx

keli5325 Sat 09-Nov-13 13:04:50

i found mine in ikea they had loads and only £4smile

CarmonEileen Sat 09-Nov-13 15:37:16

Not quite 'on the shelf' but, we found a cuddly largish elf in Tesco last year, in the Christmas soft toys that they do, it might be called Emily and friends, its fab an and as its larger than the branded elf it was great fun to play with. We did find an elf sized one in B n Q afterwards though so maybe look there. grin

they are £5

Guitargirl Tue 14-Oct-14 13:27:30

I bought our (boy) elf 4 years ago, the official elf on the shelf one. But this year I have decided to introduce a female friend so bought a girl elf on ebay last month for 7 pounds. It was just the elf as we already have the book from boy elf. Ebay seem to have quite a few there and you should definitely be able to get a more reasonably priced one - especially if you don't want the book. We don't really use the book anyway as the book says you aren't supposed to touch him, etc.

MumofWombat Tue 14-Oct-14 13:30:10

This is the elf mentioned just above. Brilliant value for £5.

tanya1312 Tue 14-Oct-14 14:11:47

Card factory now have one with book as well under £5

CoffeeChocolateWine Tue 14-Oct-14 14:22:23

Could someone please explain what elf on the shelf is or what the elf does? Sounds fun but not quite sure I get what it's about!

tanya1312 Tue 14-Oct-14 14:34:23

Basically an elf comes to visit from 1st -24th dec to see if your children are going on the naughty/nice list. But while your children are sleeping they get up to mischief /fun or leave treats. The original elf on the shelf is not to be touched, but you adapt it to what works best for your family/children.
Antics such as loo roll on Xmas tree, turning milk green etc. also a good thing to do is the northpole breakfast.

A great facebook page to look at is christmas elf antics.
Lots of ideas on Pinterest as well .

Hope that helps xx

Floggingmolly Tue 14-Oct-14 14:40:50

The Book Depository one is a sinister looking bugger hmm The stuff of nightmares...

tanya1312 Tue 14-Oct-14 14:43:37

Tanya - one of our elves did a runner last year sadWhere did you get yours from, as I've been looking all year?

tanya1312 Wed 15-Oct-14 06:25:59

The original ones I got from Aliexpress they don't come with the book though but a lot cheaper. My peppermint elves came from bigfatballoons but don't think they make them anymore you might be able to track them down on ebay/amazon. Bigfatballoons has got another cute elf on there though. Card factory are doing elves and so do sainsburys, lots of other company's make elves too. Hope that helps x

PedantMarina Wed 15-Oct-14 07:04:13

I love the knee-hugger vintage ones. It's only clicked recently (I'm 50 now, BTW) that my grandma (who raised me) had one of these. She didn't use it as a "training tool", though, just decoration. Certainly I don't remember elf being up before the rest of the deccies, or getting up to any hijinks!

PedantMarina Wed 15-Oct-14 08:00:07

Here's a retro pattern, if anybody's interested... (hope that worked: on the phone)

CoffeeChocolateWine Wed 15-Oct-14 20:19:59

Thanks for explaining. I'm sold...sounds great fun! My DC are 5 and 2...I reckon they'd love it!

AcheyJakey Wed 15-Oct-14 21:00:40

I'm now thinking about an elf to go with these elf letters I've bought. I'm so excited and just can't wait for dec 1st!

ygritte Wed 15-Oct-14 22:34:22

Thanks Tanya. I think the only peppermint gund elf available is about 4x the size of our original ones......maybe i can suggest to DD that he just grew up at the north pole (exponentially!)

Guitargirl Wed 15-Oct-14 22:37:11

grin at ygritte

They look quite sweet! Prefer the boy I think.

tanya1312 Thu 16-Oct-14 12:23:34

I have both and added a tulle skirt(headband) to girl x

Waitingonasunnyday Thu 16-Oct-14 16:01:33

Mumofmartinandlaura, are you involved with the website you linked to? You say how great it was for your kids but it's only just launched so how can your children have done it already?

mumtoone1 Thu 16-Oct-14 16:25:23

waitingonasunnyday I did wonder that too... blush
