Got a leaflet through yesterday.

Never bought anything christmassy from there, our lidl is quite new. Any suggestions of what to buy?

Selks Thu 15-Nov-12 07:07:25

Mini stollen! They are the biz.

mrsnec Thu 15-Nov-12 07:12:19

Agree with the above and the tree chocs and the Panettone.

SantasComingFace Thu 15-Nov-12 07:16:46

You know I've never eaten stollen!!

I'll look out for these things!

amarylisnightandday Thu 15-Nov-12 07:18:49

I am a stollen addict!
Tree chocs what are they?

ClaimedByMe Thu 15-Nov-12 07:20:20

My dp bought the reindeer steaks and had them for tea last night he loved it, I am not eating poor rudolf! Panettone is good I got my Christmas crackers from lidl last year, can't think what else!

ProfYaffle Thu 15-Nov-12 07:23:09

I get most of my Xmas stuff in Lidl. cheese, procutto, choccy santas, mulled wine, those chocolate covered ginger bread stars etc etc. The only thing I ever didn't like was the goose we got one year, very stringy. Everything else is ace smile

SantasComingFace Thu 15-Nov-12 07:23:38

Ooh, I don't think id fancy Rudolph steaks either.

Do they sell mincemeat? Didn't like the look of the stuff crappy tesco had..

mrsnec Thu 15-Nov-12 07:37:13

Tree chocs. Chocolate baubles you're supposed to hang on the tree but you eat them all while you're putting the tree up! Also don't know what it is about Lidl this year but ours is selling out of all the offers really quickly they had gammon joints for Xmas and 2€ Shiraz which would have kept me very happy over Xmas but they sold out of both in 1 day!

amarylisnightandday Thu 15-Nov-12 08:02:37

Oooh thanks! I want to go and see! Damn you c section on Monday!

DowagersHump Thu 15-Nov-12 08:26:43

Also gingerbread house. Their gingerbread house is the best smile

SantasComingFace Thu 15-Nov-12 08:29:26

2€ Shiraz? I'm guessing you aren't in the uk mrsnec? That would keep DP happy!!

I bought the ikea gingerbread house yesterday!! sad

VoldemortsNipple Thu 15-Nov-12 08:44:17

Ooh have they got any cellophane rolls in? I got two huge rolls last year for 2 pound each!

SantasComingFace Thu 15-Nov-12 08:50:05

I'm going shortly I shall report back!! grin

mrsnec Thu 15-Nov-12 09:20:31

Good luck Amary! No not in the UK. In Cyprus but I think Europe is a week ahead with the offers. It's worth checking the website first. At least you should get the vino a tiny bit cheaper than normal. That Shiraz is worth a try even my wine ponce friends and family like it and DH says Lidl Bourbon is nicer than JD! We buy all xmas booze in Lidl. Not seen mincemeat in our Lidl. Considering making it this year definately the cheapest place for ingredients for that though.

Lemonylemon Thu 15-Nov-12 10:29:13

They also do little bags of gingerbread biscuits. I bought a bag, the kids didn't like the biscuits, so work got them instead. They lasted about 10 minutes.....

MotherfuckingMorrisMan Thu 15-Nov-12 10:31:35

Oh god buy the lot. Everything they sell.

I have bought a load of stuff from there, stollen, lebkuchen (have you seen the prize of that in M&S - far more expensive than lidl), chocolate santas, gingerbread, brazil nuts, cakes aplently, big chocolate discs covered in hundreds and thousands, mad soups, balsamic vinegar, jams, pickles.

Lidl at Christmas is brilliant (is Aldi as good for the Christmas stuff?)

ImperialStateKnickers Thu 15-Nov-12 10:35:24

Speckular biscuits, my Dutch Granny used to bring them back with her when she went to visit her sisters, was so happy to find you could get them in Lidl. I've not spelt it properly, but that's the pronunciation.

mummy1986 Thu 15-Nov-12 10:56:27

Voldemorts
Ive just got back from lidl and they do have those cellophane rolls in...i brought 3!

MotherfuckingMorrisMan Thu 15-Nov-12 11:00:06

What are these cellophane rolls?

mummy1986 Thu 15-Nov-12 11:03:52
MotherfuckingMorrisMan Thu 15-Nov-12 11:09:05

OOOH!

Thank you.

mummy1986 Thu 15-Nov-12 11:12:04

im using mine to put round the elf on a shelf parcel from santa and on the xmas eve hamper
my mum is doing hampers for the elderly people in a home near us, so it will be used for that too!

ssaw2012 Thu 15-Nov-12 11:15:06

Big round chocolate lebkuchen. They are delicious. Also they have lebkuchens in red and blue boxes. They are nice too. We like the ones in the red box. They are coated in dark chocolate.

MsElleTow Thu 15-Nov-12 11:16:57

Their Christmas puddings are gorgeous. They are about £2.99 and full of nuts and fruit. We buy about 5 and eat them though the year. We already bought ours in September.

ssaw2012 Thu 15-Nov-12 11:23:12

I cannot find the christmas stuff on their online page. I have checked all their possible online brochures but no luck. Lidl is not close to where we live so we have to check things we want to buy online.

amarylisnightandday Thu 15-Nov-12 12:01:21

I'm already excited! Do you mean clear cellophane or do they do colours?

marssparklesdownonme Thu 15-Nov-12 13:07:41

I agree withMsElleTow the Delice Christmas puddings last year were lovely. Very moist and full of fruit and nuts. I think they are £3.60 this year. I also got some cards from the last year. the were really thick card.Bought some ribbons too with Ho Ho Ho and scandi style lovehearts on.

Got my Mum some florentines from Aldi .She said they were very nice. I saw the orange christmas pudding that's come out high in the taste tests in our Aldi last week.(in Good Housekeeping)

SantasComingFace Thu 15-Nov-12 13:17:07

I think different stores have different things, ours had no cellophane. Lots of ribbon, bows and paper though.

I bought
A chocolate Santa for DS's stocking
Some cherry liqueur chocolates for the monster in law
Some mini stollen (looking forward to trying these)
Rum and raisin mincemeat
Guinness whole grain mustard

There were lots more things but I'm trying not to go mad until pay day.

Also bought my usuals, olive oil, fruit, chocolate for the Xmas rocky road...

They have some frozen unbaked croissants too which I got for a nice breakfast with homemade jam!

mummypigof3 Thu 15-Nov-12 13:30:41

Isn't the cellophane see through? What do you use it for ? I want some.grin

anklebitersmum Thu 15-Nov-12 13:37:00

Gluhwein and their cheap rum to add to it, Choccy Santas, Chocolate balls and coins for the Elves to put in the advent calendar, Stollen, Bordeaux, Germanic decorations, wrapping paper & tags, cards..the list goes on and on

showtunesgirl Thu 15-Nov-12 13:40:16

YY! Love their Glühwein!

SantasComingFace Thu 15-Nov-12 14:06:53

Oh god, why did I open the stollen????

They are yummy

HazeltheMcWitch Thu 15-Nov-12 14:11:17

I have already completed my quality control exercise on this year's lebkuchen. You may thank me.

I can confirm that it indeed delicious this year. It was last year too. I got the bog standard one, not even the 'posh' one. Might need to check out that one too, however...

Afrodizzywonders Thu 15-Nov-12 14:18:37

The deluxe olive pate stuff is delicious! I recommend the chic covered nuts, gingerbread biscuits, shortbread.....wrapping paper etc...brill

ssaw2012 Thu 15-Nov-12 16:22:54

HazeltheMcWitch, I know the little lebkuchen packs which are slightly different from the big packs. Big lebkuchens coated in dark chocolate and the small ones coates in some crunchy icing which I do not like. Once you buy the big ones you will see the difference.

HazeltheMcWitch Thu 15-Nov-12 17:47:13

ssaw2012 I had the big ones. I like big biscuits better than small biscuits. For obvious reasons. blush

VoldemortsNipple Thu 15-Nov-12 17:56:47

Thanks mummy1986 I ran out at lunch time and bought 3 for me and 4 more for the girls in work. I didn't have time to look at food, although I would have just eaten it all tonight anyway grin

VoldemortsNipple Thu 15-Nov-12 18:00:38

amary I got a clear roll, then two with Christmas patterns on. Still clear but with gold swirly pattern and silver Christmassy pattern. 5 metres each for a pound. Bargain smile

amarylisnightandday Fri 16-Nov-12 18:03:45

I've been! I was stupidly excited. We bought stollen, the fancy cellophane, Xmas cards, choc decorations, pretty straw decorations and loads if tasty choc type items. It was worth the trip. Ooh we aldi bought outdoor dairy lights for £10 to go on the big Xmas tree shaped tree by our front door which dd is now bursting with excitement about - I figured I probably won't find them cheaper. Xmas trees with fairy lights you see out and about ate dds v favourite thing about Xmas - more than the presents (wells up) he he

loubielou31 Fri 16-Nov-12 21:03:17

Do they have the gingerbread house kits this year? I like the look of the cellophane wrap too.

spookysal Fri 16-Nov-12 21:51:42

I did both Aldi and Lidl this morning for the Christmas bits:

In Lidl I bought:

Gluhwein
£12.99 Champagne (Which best buy) - Sold out early last year.
Tree chocs
Choc santa for stocking
Choc coins also for stocking
Choc balls for advent calender
lebkuchen
Mini stollen
Panettone - Also sold out before Christmas last year in my area.
The Grinch!
Some Traditional looking decorations
Some very non traditional Christmas window stickers for dd's bedroom blush
Festive Jelly sweets - Really lovely shapes and colours which is surprising. DC will like choosing which shape they want.

In Aldi I bought:

Big choc reindeer - for stockings (to go with Santa)
Gingerbread house

amarylisnightandday Sat 17-Nov-12 07:21:03

I also bought the 99p choc truffles. Oh good god I will never lose any baby weight!!!!! Amazing! If I could not eat them for long enough I will be serving/giving these at Xmas but my post baby body dictates I can't go near lidi again until frankly, next Xmas!

If you arnt trying to lose weight but some white choc ones imediately.

mrsnec Sat 17-Nov-12 09:29:25

I buy the cellophane to wrap homemade goodies like gingerbread and rocky road to give to clients as gifts. I sometimes wrap jars of chutney or chilli jam in it too. Has anyone seen the gingerbread houses in Lidl this year? We don't have Aldi here yet. I'm after one this year I didn't get the Ikea one it looked rubbish.

Selks Sat 17-Nov-12 11:06:39

Um, I've eaten my Lidl mini stollens and how have to get some more for Christmas blush blush

SantasComingFace Sat 17-Nov-12 11:12:25

Selks, snap. I had to check they were ok.

Selks Sat 17-Nov-12 19:04:08

Of course. All in the name of quality control grin

ChristmasCountdown Sun 18-Nov-12 08:36:35

Love this thread. I'm off to Lidl today to see what our local store has in the way of Christmas goodies. Any suggestions for non Christmassy stuff to stock up on while I'm there?

SantasComingFace Sun 18-Nov-12 09:08:40

I always buy olive oil, tomato puree, tins of corned beef in fact lots of tinned stuff is good. Ours has an instore bakery which is good. The wine is good too and I've bought the meat which is ok.

Startail Sun 18-Nov-12 09:19:35

Shall have to have a look, DH is very fond of L' <no way can my dyslexic brain spell it> continental biscuit things.

I like stollen and DDs love choc tree decorations.

ChristmasCountdown Sun 18-Nov-12 14:50:19

Been and managed to spend £50! Bought lots of things recommended on here, including the champagne and mulled wine stuff. I now have a massive bag of Christmas holiday nibbles.

Elizabeth22 Sun 18-Nov-12 15:49:34

I couldn't find a gingerbread house sad but I got a couple of rolls of cellaphane plus caramel waffles. Decent Christmas cards (charity cards, no mention of lidl on the back) with glitter on for a pound. Also got Christmas shaped pasta blush...

Maybe the gingerbread houses come later? This seems to be a second wave of Christmas items in our store.

spookysal Sun 18-Nov-12 16:36:57

Wow christmas shaped pasta - dc would love!!

Elizabeth22 Sun 18-Nov-12 20:05:39

spookysal the pasta wasn't in the Christmas section or in the pasta section so you may have to hunt around for it.

moonblushtomato Sun 18-Nov-12 22:23:40

Not exactly Christmassy, but their Extra SPecial type range MAple Syrup fudge is utterly, utterly divine..... And only £1.49 a box.

amarylisnightandday Sun 18-Nov-12 22:40:11

I bought Xmas cards too with glitter - they were pretty good I think. There were Xmas card making kits too which look good but I already have a like of stuff to set dd1 to work on grin

SantasComingFace Mon 19-Nov-12 06:28:15

I went back yesterday for more stollen and got dp to stick it at the back of the cupboard where i can't reach. blush

Lesley1000 Mon 17-Dec-12 21:03:27

I agree with ProYaffle. Gingerbread stars mmmmm.............. to die for. Yum.

Lesley1000 Mon 17-Dec-12 21:04:38

Chilli smoked salmon, cheese coleslaw great anytime of year
