Thought it would be fun to find out when everyone else puts theres up!

Mum tells my dad to ascend the loft and get everything out on the 17th Novemeber (Yes that early)

Me and my mum love christmas so much, we put everything up to make it feel 'warm' and 'cosy' after 3-4 hours we sit down make a hot chocolate then get excited for christmasblush

1st December for us, before ds was on the scene we waited until 2nd week of December. Like you I love Christmas time!

SkipTheLightFanjango Sat 06-Oct-12 01:13:34

1st weekend in December.

3duracellbunnies Sat 06-Oct-12 07:23:08

1st weekend in December, the word Christmas is virtually banned in our house when dh is around until december that is why I am on here so much! Then he is like a big kid and will want to get the biggest tree he can squeeze into our little house, and will love all the decorating, he always wants to be there when advent calendar is open, even if it means waiting until the end. It then culminates in his Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve, unfortunately he is working on Christmas Eve this year, so it will have to be the weekend just before. As my shopping is nearly done (thanks to the baargainous thread), the children and I will be secretly doing Christmas stuff from now on!

3duracellbunnies Sat 06-Oct-12 07:26:03

I should say that I actually prefer the tree coming a bit later so it doesn't drop needles so much, but I am usually outvoted!

We do the weekend roughly two weeks before. Not sure about this year with induction looking to be then. Probably best to get all the decs up before!

Onadietcolabreak Sat 06-Oct-12 08:47:51

I try and wait untill the 1st Sunday in December, sometimes I just can't wait blush putting up the decorations is the best part of Christmas for me grin

We make a real weekend of it, I take the kids out ice skating or something quite Christmassy on the Saturday, then on the Sunday, after a big roast we put the tree up (I do the rest of the house in the morning) listening to Christmas music and I have a mulled wine then we put the lights on a snuggle down to watch a Christmas film together smile

My late DG used to put hers up on the 31st Oct! And go mad and tacky, we loved it as kids smile my DM wouldn't let us put ours up untill a few days before sad

schilke Sat 06-Oct-12 08:50:43

Usually the second weekend in December.

Indith Sat 06-Oct-12 08:53:07

No earlier than the weekend before. Ideally I'd leave it until the 24th but there is always so much else to do! Dd's birthday is the 23rd though so we don't fully decorate until that evening so the tree will be up, we'll have paper chains and fairy lights around, holly and other greens will be up from Yule but we'll try to leave Christmas specific stuff, presents under the tree etc until after her birthday.

And yes presents under the tree with all the labels showing who they are from because Father Christmas only brings stockings. So there. <<starts a whole other discussion>>

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey Sat 06-Oct-12 08:55:03

1st December and by then i am busting and can't wait but dh is a bit of a bah humbug so i have to wait.

About a week into December, this year will be 8/9 Dec. We have a real tree and want it to last. We all go out to the local Forestry commission place and choose the tree together and decorate it once it gets dark.

1st December is when I upload Christmas music onto all our Ipods, that and Advent calendars for the first week in Dec is a nce gradual buildup.

I agree re stockings indith grin

Inneedofbrandy Sat 06-Oct-12 08:59:53

1st weekend in December here to. Side note my dcs don't break up till the 21st this year so not a lot of time for iceskating, getting a real tree, shopping ect I'm really sad about it.

Onadietcolabreak Sat 06-Oct-12 10:19:27

Same here Inneedofbrandy sad

This year I'm starting the whole Santa only stocking thing, always had both from Santa but this will be my second Xmas without ex p, and last year Santa spoilt them then wonderful Daddy spoilt them a few days after - looked like I didn't get them anything angry

Starshaped Sat 06-Oct-12 10:22:14

Sometime between the 10 - 15 December for us. I love putting and having them up but think they'd drive me mad if I had them up for any longer!

Indith Sat 06-Oct-12 11:59:45

brandy I love that the children don't break up until late! Less time at home with hyper children and more time to sort stuff away from prying eyes grin. I am almost all done with shopping though <<polishes halo>>.

I prefer it when the DCs break up early. I work so they get to go off to grandparents or do sports clubs etc on my work days, do Chrisas stuff the other days but without the pressure of the term time routine. Come Jan 2nd we feel all deflated and we're all ready to get back into term time mode but they don't go back till the 7th.

VikingVagineGhoulnamStyle Sat 06-Oct-12 18:38:10

First weekend of December here too.

FringeEvent Sat 06-Oct-12 18:46:41

Mine will be going up on Dec 15th this year, as my little niece is coming to stay for the weekend, and letting her decorate the tree will save me from having to do it be fun for her

Petsinmyputridpudenda Sat 06-Oct-12 19:18:55

Mid decemberhare but no tree till the christmas school holidays

Inneedofbrandy Sat 06-Oct-12 19:23:24

Indith You have a point, I just find it difficult with fitting everything and family in .And I love the run up to christmas. Like whoiknow said 2nd of Jan I want them back in school. I hate January and I hate my xmas decs up after boxing day, I itch till all day boxing day wanting to take them down.

Goldpippin Sat 06-Oct-12 21:35:41

This year we will be putting the tree up on the 15th we have a real tree and I find if we get them any earlier then they are past there best by the 25th.

Meglet Sat 06-Oct-12 21:38:30

When the schools break up, so 20th (ish) of December.

Like Indith, the weekend before. I've just checked, this year that's quite hardcore - 22nd.

DorsetKnob Sat 06-Oct-12 21:41:26

The Saturday after the children have broken up.

EugenesAxe Sat 06-Oct-12 21:47:38

The weekend before Christmas, usually, but this year it will be earlier as we are away the weekend before Christmas (early Christmas with DH's family).

Also if I have neighbours over for some wanky mulled wine and mince pie thing, then I'll be festived up in time for that.

I saw some house bling TODAY on the gatepost of a house in Hersham - they weren't switched on but they were light tubes in the shape of bells. I was shock

2kidsintow Sat 06-Oct-12 23:13:19

I used to wait til school had finished. But that was pre-kids.

They actually seem to love the build up to Christmas more than the day itself. They love me to drive the long way home through the town so they can do what I did as a kiddie and count the number of people who have their decs up and watch the number increase as the days go by.
As a result I then started to put them up on the 1st when they started with their advent calendars.

They are a bit older now and I may hold off a week now instead.

Indith Sun 07-Oct-12 08:37:34

TheSurgeonsMate I may have to go back on my word this year! The 22nd is dd's birthday party then the 23rd is her birthday so no doubt MIL or someone will be round then the 24th we will be going down to my mum's so it might have to be the weekend before that one!

ConstantlyCooking Sun 07-Oct-12 11:19:54

Christmas build up starts on the first Sunday of Advent, then Christmas CDs and films are "allowed" from Dec 1st. Decorations usually second weekend in Dec. I love the build up to Christmas and always have a twinge of sadness on the day itself as it will soon be over. I miss the shops closing on the bank holidays and the Sales starting closer to New Year.

NoillyPrat Sun 07-Oct-12 11:31:37

We put our trees up on the first Saturday of December. This year it'll be the 1st smile

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Sun 07-Oct-12 11:51:20

First sunday of december, we drink mulled wine/punch, put the fire on and eat mince pies while putting the decorations up.

IWantAnotherBaby Sun 07-Oct-12 12:12:11

1st December of course

All other ways are wrong.

vamosbebe Sun 07-Oct-12 12:16:41

8th December! It's ds' first birthday on 7th, so we'll put everything up the day after (yes, I know he won't realise their importance yet!) as it's a holiday here in Spain so we'll always have the day to do it together. I can't flipping wait this year!!

TheFallenMadonna Sun 07-Oct-12 12:20:24

End of term. We keep them until twelfth night though, which seems to be later than most.

HecateLarpo Sun 07-Oct-12 12:24:22

After my birthday on the 9th December.

When I was a child, my parents ALWAYS put the christmas decorations up on my birthday. Apparently it made my birthday special.

so now, my own family know to not even ASK about christmas till the 10th of december.

<issues flying all over the place> grin

PeppermintLatte Sun 07-Oct-12 12:34:46

i'm shock at how late some of you are!

the last sunday in november for me, we stick an m&s buffet in, drink mulled wine and bucks fizz and blare cliff richard! it's not christmas without cliff.

mrsfuzzy Sun 07-Oct-12 12:39:21

we're pagans and as we celebrate the winter solstice dec 21st [or some years 22nd] we decorate the house with evergreen on dec 1st, and replenish it up to dec 23rd when our celebrations finish and everything is cleared away, we also light tealights in lamps in the garden as the sun sets, and have a huge bomfire to celebrate the sun on the solstice itsself. when i was a kid i celebrated christmas and i still love to see the decorations and lights in shops and peoples windows/ gardens, but it isn't for me personally. we have feasting and drink, there are no presents as they were given out on our new years eve oct 31st so the kids are not missing out.

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea Sun 07-Oct-12 13:52:03

20th December.
And come down before new year.

FreakoidOrganisoid Sun 07-Oct-12 14:04:24

It always used to be around the 20th, when schools broke up-ish.

Then I moved house on Dec 1st and couldn't be arsed to put it all in the loft for just a couple of weeks so kept it all out. Got sick of the sight of the boxes so put it all up within a week. Made my new home feel all cosy and festive smile

The past few years it's been the first weekend in December. Ds' birthday is the 10th but so far he has wanted the decorations up before his birthday, if that changes we'll put it back again to after his birthday.

My mum tells me I am common for putting it up so early grin

mrsfuzzy Sun 07-Oct-12 14:51:51

common? what's that mean freakoid? what happened to wanting to cheer up the dark days with a bit of colour and afew lights?

oldraver Sun 07-Oct-12 15:15:49

I've never had a definate day as its change over the years depending on our circumstances. When we were little My Mum put the tree up for DB's birthday on the 9th, now we put it up after the 9th as its OH birthday and he doesnt want to have to share it grin

NimChimpsky Sun 07-Oct-12 15:27:27

DD breaks up on the 21st too. Not enough time at all. Not back until January 8th I think. I'd rather she was home for longer before Christmas and back to school earlier.

Decorations will be made from the first weekend in December and then we put them up as and when they're ready. December 1st we go to a Christmas market and then to the coast to collect holly, fircones, twigs etc, home to hot chocolate and start drying out oranges etc.

wfrances Sun 07-Oct-12 16:10:22

i decorate first week of december, wreaths, garlands, christmas crockery, ect but trees dont go up until about the 10th-14th
