I've read about this book/elf on mn and want to get one for DD for this December. Thought getting it out of season would make it cheaper hmm . It's proving hard to track down and amazon have it for over £50 shock shock . Does anyone know where I can get it a bit cheaper or whether the book is that important and it's more the elf hiding/finding mischief every day in December (in which case I can buy any old toy elf)? Or, does anyone have an old one they no longer need and would like to sell to me?

Got mine on Amazon last year was about £25, best money I've ever spent. Have already started gathering props for his adventures this year grin

fuzzywuzzy Wed 15-Aug-12 14:44:24

actually no here but its £25 !

£25?!?!?

Surely you could just buy any old elf figuirine and sit it on a shelf?

reastie Wed 15-Aug-12 14:48:57

That's what I'm wondering gnocchi - can I just buy any old elf or does it all tie in better when you have to book to go with it?

fuzzy excellent link - will get this one if it is necessary to buy the official one avec book grin

I bought a pack of 2 elves (about 9 inch each) from amazon- one for each dd. they were £15 for both inc delivery. I ordered mid November and availability was patchy!!! Just had a quick look for them on amazon but very few on there yet so wait a month or so.

No I don't think you need the real elf on the shelf. You can print their passport/letter of introduction off online. I'll try post link!

reastie Wed 15-Aug-12 14:58:02

Ohh they get a passport and letter with them do they??

sunnyday123 Wed 15-Aug-12 14:58:45

sunnyday love the blog link with the passport. I think I'm going to print/do my own of those any buy a toy elf. Have tried googling toy christmas elves and haven't yet found a decent one though hmm [useless]

sunnyday123 Wed 15-Aug-12 16:23:37

Exactly the kids don't know or even care as long as its an elf! Plus I thought mine were cuter than the 'real' one! smile

ZombieBelle Wed 15-Aug-12 16:29:42

etsy here are lots of elves for a lot cheaper for those who just want an elf smile

Love the EoaS "Off the Shelf" (the discount Elf.

My EoaS is a toy Action Man type doll with gaudy looking red and green Elf trousers and top (felt glued and sewed onto him).

I might make him a naughty Elf this year (my DC are 10 and 12.6 so getting a bit old for all the malarky).
He might be found in the morning lying sparked out and surrounded by After Eight wrappers grin

I too got elves and printed out the certificates and things from the website.

I cant remember what make they are but they were a set of 2 from ebay for about £15, aunty made a sack and they came with an advent calender and a book, oh what fun we had with them, they ran away, they crashed the car, they floated out of the house on giant balloons, they brought books and treats and covered the house in loo paper, they papered the entrance to the DCs bedroom.

The DCs love them and they pop in through the year to keep an eye on them, the real elf on the shelf is too pricey!!!

I am due a baby just before christmas and am wondering if for the other DCs sakes I should get one for it. DH thinks I am mad.

bloodyfurious Wed 15-Aug-12 19:49:45

I have some templates with letters, adoption certs etc, if anyone wants them emailed over.

sunnyday123 Wed 15-Aug-12 21:28:36

Bloodyfurious I would love one please! Thank you!

bloodyfurious Wed 15-Aug-12 21:33:06

Pm me an email address and I'll get them to you tomorrow.

Have done bloody grin

ant thanks for the linky but think I want an elf elf not a teddy elf

zombie etsy - great idea! Had a long search through but nothing that tickled my fancy, well, some did but all seemed to be from USA with hefty shipping costs hmm . Will keep hunting for the perfect elf, or just go shopping nearer christmas when hopefully they'll be loads about

bloodyfurious Thu 16-Aug-12 09:34:10

reastie Thu 16-Aug-12 09:40:09

bloodyfurious Thu 16-Aug-12 09:42:26

I just send everything, there should be
a letter than comes when the elf arrives
a report card (so the elf can report back to santa and also to record what the elves have done
a christmas eve letter saying what a good child you are
and an adoption certificate, which one have I missed off??

bloodyfurious Thu 16-Aug-12 09:43:44

and a blank sheet just saying "x comes to play" for whatever use you want.

reastie Thu 16-Aug-12 09:46:29

I've got a report card 2011, a blank 'jangles comes to play' report 2012 and a blank card saying merry christmas with santa on the side (3 times)

bloodyfurious Thu 16-Aug-12 09:51:45

Ive just resent some then, you should now have 2 copies of their christmas eve letter and one of the letter that comes with them when they arrive

reastie Thu 16-Aug-12 11:56:39

Thanks for resending bloody . 2 of them won't open on my computer - think it must be maybe as I have a mac so I don't have all windows programs to open such things. I'll botch sort something out of my own imagination, great idea with the posh paper though. Thanks so much for the emails. Actually, I may try opening the other attachments on DHs computer later - they'll probably work on his as it's windows grin

changingallthetime Thu 16-Aug-12 12:43:24

I'll send them as online docs when I am back on laptop later

I LOVE Elf on the Shelf! We only got it last year, and I dd had so much fun with it. Dd was only just 3 so I didn't have the elf do too much mischief, but he was hidden well everyday . On Xmas morning dd was more interested in finding elf than her presents.

If you go to the elf on the shelf official website, you can register your elf - it doesn't have to be the official one, and you can get loads of colouring in downloads, letters from Santa.

Awh this is lovely, bookmarking for when I'm on the laptop later! smile DD will be 3 just after Christmas and I think she'd love this smile

buzzgirly Tue 21-Aug-12 06:49:51

I just saw this on the other thread, elf on the shelf. It is the official one with book, really good price as I paid £25 last year.

ettiketti Tue 21-Aug-12 06:57:31

Never heard of it, but what a cute idea smile the last two links take me to a YouTube ad tho for some reason?

buzzgirly Tue 21-Aug-12 07:23:49

We did this last year but with an "unofficial" elf that we bought from Ebay. You can find the story being read on youtube. DS watched the story online a few times before his elf arrived.

We loved doing it last year and can't wait to start again this year. DS will be 6 and DD will be 2.8. Even now if something goes missing or turns up in an unexpected place, DS will blame Cranberry (his elf) and thinks he is still keeping an eye on him.

In fact, DH enjoyed it more than anyone and has been talking about coming up with a list of escapades for December so we don't run out of ideas grin

chipsandbeans Tue 11-Sep-12 11:51:51

Hi, my elf on shelf has arrived and I wondered if anyone would be able to send me or let me know where I can find the paperwork to go with him - the certificates and letters etc?

Thanks

MildlyMonica Thu 11-Oct-12 16:03:14

£17.58 and free postage on Book Depository at the moment here

MamaPizza Sat 13-Oct-12 22:10:22

Can someone please tell me - what exactly comes with the original Elf on the shelf pack? I thought it was just the elf and a book, but it sounds like there are other goodies in it. Could someone please list it for me? Happy to pay the full price if it is really worth it.

I just bought an elf last week and my kids are loving it soooooo much. I bought it on Ebay 'Elf on the Shelf kit' for £16 with a lovely knitted elf, letter which they wrote my kids names on in a lovely presentation box including magic seeds, bell & chocolate coin for each of my kids. It is making our Christmas even more special! The first night they planted their 'magic seeds' and they following morning they'd grown into candy canes - even the canes came with the kit. Then there's a note for Christmas day saying 'well done' with their names on, and that the elf has told santa how good the kids have all been and that they're on the Nice List. It is brilliant! smile Merry Christmas!
