<<sprints in carrying carrot sticks and water>>

I miss Christmas sad I want baileys and chocolate and Christmas dinner!

How are you all?

molepomandmistletoe Mon 02-Jan-12 20:17:12

I could have sworn I posted on this thread, oh well.

Hello!! how are you all?

I've started the preperation for this years Christmas.

Ribbon - check
Cards - check
Wrapping paper - check
Sellotape - check

I've bookmarked the site where I got my indestructable tree from (real tree, delivered on the 8th December, hasnt been watered for 3 weeks - because I keep forgetting - and the bloody thing is still going strong),

bookmarked a few of the more expensive pressies for the kids

and I'm starting to plan what to make the swags and other live decorations from.

Glitter - put away for next years reindeer food and cookies.

Savings account and spreadsheet opened and accumilating money, not much at the moment though.

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 02-Jan-12 20:29:35

Gosh your very organised mole

I need to book a holiday and have another countdown thread grin

Wonder if I could just leave decorations up? I like them grin

molepomandmistletoe Mon 02-Jan-12 21:27:15

I'm not organised, just bored and th ekids have been driving me insane for the past 2 days - thank god they are back to school tomorrow.

BarryStar Mon 02-Jan-12 21:48:33

Hi, can I join in please? Don't want to take the decorations down, don't want to stop eating chocolate and drinking Baileys, and most of all, I don't want it to be all over for another year.

molepomandmistletoe Mon 02-Jan-12 21:49:24

Of course...welcome.

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 02-Jan-12 23:13:20

Pull Up a chair barry

Can't believe they're back at school already, has flown by mole

molepomandmistletoe Tue 03-Jan-12 00:53:45

I know, tell me about it. I'm not ready to do that whole school run/meetings/funds palava already.

I've set all 4 alarms in my room to get me up tomorrow morning just for insomnia to kick in again tonight so I know I wont be going to sleep at all tonight anyway...argghhhhh.

lucysmam Tue 03-Jan-12 14:00:01

Ooh, can I join in! Glad to see I'm not the only one looking forward to this years Christmas already, dp looked at me very hmm last night when I started to stitch the girls' names on their stockings so there were no arguments like last year (sounds very odd saying that since it's only days ago)

He's just started a new job & will be working late quite often though so I can plan to my hearts content grin

Am off to town Thursday after my washing machine's delivered to see if there's any cards/wrap left on sale rather than spend a fortune & starting with random stocking filler bits as well.

<<<expects a lot more hmm looks from dp over the next 12 months grin >>>

molepomandmistletoe Tue 03-Jan-12 18:32:13

lol, welcome to the thread.

MamaPizzaChristmasToppings Wed 04-Jan-12 06:35:15

Welcome to the newbies. The more the merrier!

Mole, you are very organized! Should we share our Monica Gellar medal? grin

So far I have got some items in the post-Christmas sales, such as cards, pretty decoration and a lovely big plate for Santa's mince pie and Rudolph's carrot. And I gave in and got DS one of those bloody annoying singing Christmas trees even though he already has a singing reindeer and that drove me nuts hmm. It goes on for ages. He had it for two days until it got locked away in the big sack in the garage.

I got myself one of those saving tins, the ones that you can only open with a tin opener, and the rule is that as soon as we are given a £2 coin it goes in. So far we have already £10 in it, not bad for a week grin This will be our extra Christmas spending money.

I have also started a spreadsheet with present ideas for DS, but I also have one for his birthday in August, some things might get swapped around.

I also know exactly what my tree will look like, but didn't have the money to buy decoration yet, it will be pricey. Think of real tree, nordic decoration theme.

Oh dear, I sound like a total lunatic, but well I am in good company here wink

Good luck with the school run everyone. We have no plans for the next days, so food shopping and walks with the dog it is.

Scout19075 Wed 04-Jan-12 06:55:50

Can I join? I started shopping for Christmas 2012 before Christmas 2011. blush Good sales were my excuse.

I spreadsheet everything and have them saved by year (have done it since moving to the UK -- MrScout has a large family compared to mine). There's a tab for each gift-giving occassion -- birthday, Christmas, Boxing Day, Easter (we just do chocolate eggs, but I list the variety/type we got each person), etc. I got home for Thanksgiving (American living in the UK) so try to be done by then so I take my family's gifts with me (saves on postage!) and they send their gifts to us back with me (so it helps them be organized, too).

molepomandmistletoe Wed 04-Jan-12 07:12:44

wow scout, i like your thinking.

mama, you keep the medal, if you look into my kitchen right now I would be disqualified and disinfected anyway.

PeanutButterCupCake Wed 04-Jan-12 10:42:49

Hello all! Oh no now I feel inferior as I don't have spreadsheets envy

I really should take the tree down, but I don't wanna <<stamps feet>>

How is everyone?

LordOfTheFlies Wed 04-Jan-12 11:30:34

Nice to see the Christmas Thread hasn't withered away and shrivelled up grin

I bought my money tin (£1 from the Range) on NYE to put my £2 coins in (I saved £200 last year in my £2 box, so hope to excell myself this year)

Also noting what I don't need to do next year:

Christmas Cake- only one slice got eaten (by me)
Magic Reindeer Food- it's sitting in a lump on the lawn

On a plus note:
the DCs loved the wrapping paper over the lounge door to 'burst' through. Might do that for birthdays as well

Christmas Eve Hampers -they loved the,the boxes were gorgeous. I meant to save them for next year but DD threw up on DS box so we had to bin it

MamaPizzaChristmasToppings Wed 04-Jan-12 11:53:19

LordOfTheFlies, it must have been you! Have you started the thread during December writing about the £200 in the money tin? I wanted to thank that person for the idea, but couldn't remember who it was. So if it was you, than big thank you thanks As I said before, we got a tenner in it already. We can compare when we open them in December.

Don't do reindeer food, I got mine for a quid from a charity shop (I think it was British heart foundation). It contained oats and edible glitter and the reindeers have magically eaten it overnight swept away with brush for the birds to eat

Spreadsheets rock, I have one for virtually every walk of life [geek]

Mole, I clean your kitchen and you can clean my living room. Deal?

lucysmam Wed 04-Jan-12 12:58:57

I'm very envy of those of you with spreadsheets but seem to be completely unable to manage them so I do lists......lots and lots and lots of lovely loooooong ones grin

Have not long been in from town where I got giftwrap for 40p from Wilko's for the kids presents & some more grown up stuff for grown up people. Am going to sit down tonight & go through last year's list for food & start crossing out bits that were wasted or could have done with a bit more of.

& sending dp to the bank at the weekend to open a savings account to put a fiver a week in which I'm hoping will cover stockings, food and 'other people'. Should easily do that plus more with a bit of careful planning.......

Love the idea of the wrapping paper to burst through on the door, that'll go on my list of things to do next year (think I have some of that extra wide paper lurking that didn't get used

Best feed the small 1 before she notices my attention is not 100% hers grin

Scout19075 Wed 04-Jan-12 14:22:19

Not long after moving here I did that £2 coin thing (I was, and still am, fascinated by £2 coins for some reason) and in six- to eight-months had over £120 worth. I splurged and bought craft supplies for myself (this was long pre-ToddlerScout -- now I'd probably buy him some books or new trains for his tracks). It might be an idea for me to do again -- I have £8 worth already just from yesterday and today....

molepomandmistletoe Wed 04-Jan-12 16:19:37

Deal.

BarryStar Wed 04-Jan-12 22:32:33

Thanks for the welcome smile

I'm feeling the need for spreadsheets now. (Will have to learn how to do them/use them first of course blush.

I too will not bother with christmas cake next year as hardly any has been eaten. I also still have lots of mincemeat left as, after having made one batch of mince pies, my mother declared my pastry as being "rather heavy". So being the adult that I am, rather than making any more, I sulked. But I can still use the mince next year, right?

Took the tree to the recycling centre this morning, twas very sad. On the plus side, I bought some lovely cheap ribbon in Wilkos ready for creative present wrapping next year, and I bought ds1 a baseball jacket which was on offer via Groupon! I also found a tin of Quality Street at the back of my wardrobe which I will try to save for next year (who am I kidding).

molepomandmistletoe Thu 05-Jan-12 00:11:42

Put the tin of chocolate in with the decorations, you'll soon forget about them.

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 05-Jan-12 10:23:19

Ive just taken the tree down <<sob>> it looks so bare sad

Found a 25p pack of christmas cards yesterday!

mama any joy on the job front?
Hows things mole?
Barry eat the chocolates grin
Hi newbies smile

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 05-Jan-12 10:25:06

Woooooh Christmas smilies are still here

grinsmileblushsadenvyhmmconfusedwinkangrybiscuit

lucysmam Thu 05-Jan-12 10:32:43

DD2 has pinched my stash of bows for next years presents and hidden them! Grrrrrrrr, they were the last on the shelf. Will have to keep an eye out for some nice ribbon now to make some with

Looks like we're stuck in for the day here so am going to start browsing online toy shops to bookmark some of the bigger stuff for the kids. DP just started new job so xmas will be mainly done by me this year. And I'm going to start looking for a recipe for a small & inexpensive xmas pud, dd1 was a bit put out we didn't make one this year because nana told her all about making them when she was little (thanks nana hmm)

MamaPizza Thu 05-Jan-12 11:46:42

Woohoo to Christmas smileys grin I wonder if they will be gone tomorrow? Might aswell make the most of them while they are here.

No job, nothing in sight. If it wasn't for the money I could happily live indoors in joggers for the rest of my life blush

I am back to normal name, but not sure whether to change it or not. Everyone got used to calling me Mama, but there are so many Mama's around. Didn't think when I registered here. Thinking of SalamiPizza which makes sense when you know who I am in real life.

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 05-Jan-12 11:51:42

I like mama tho smile
Know how you feel, I go back to work next week after a long period off sick.....I dont wanna get dressed, get up early and deal with RL again sad

I was thinking of a name change but sort of think of myself as Peanut now grin

molepomandmistletoe Thu 05-Jan-12 12:40:45

Hello People!

Havent taken the decs down yet but will do that tonight I think. Been swimming today with a mate and have to pick up ds to take him to his SN review in an hour so I'm grabbing a cuppa while I can.

How's everyone? Started planning Chrsitmas yet?

Loving the pantry list, whoever did that, might have to do that myself...another tag for the speadsheet I think is called for.

Mama, I'm loving the Salamipizza name.

MistletoeAndFlump Thu 05-Jan-12 13:07:29

Hello Christmassy MNers! I'm so glad I found this thread - I was feeling very sad about Christmas being so many sleeps away, but now I can mark my place here and pretend it's (kind of) Christmas every day smile.

I'm taking down the decorations tomorrow, as I want to drag it out as long as possible. I also have two Christmas stockings to mend, since they were stuffed so full that the felt on the back split. I was going to chuck them and get new ones but the owner of one of them (DS1, 14) wouldn't hear of it because he said he wants to ''keep the same stocking I always had until I'm old and farty''.

lauracindy Thu 05-Jan-12 13:08:11

hello all, newbie here, may i join?

You all sound so very organised! I'm not very good with spreadsheets and normally keep things listed in the back of my diary & take pictures on my phone of what ive brought already to save double buying something by mistake, but will get my DF to show me how to spreadsheets this year, ive never been shopping in the January sales, but plan to do so next year x

MistletoeAndFlump Thu 05-Jan-12 13:08:42

PS Mama I love your name! Does it suggest I'm not the only one who made turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce pizzas on Boxing Day then?

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 05-Jan-12 13:49:10

Yum mistletoe I need a turkey and stuffing pizza now!
Pity we don't all live close, we could have some sort of Christmas party in summer grin

MistletoeAndFlump Thu 05-Jan-12 14:01:22

Well I for one am prepared to travel blush

molepom Thu 05-Jan-12 18:45:48

I'm gutted.

Decorations are all down and packed away in their new storage box, the house looks bare now. There's a big mud stain on the carpet which I've missed so will get onto that tomorrow. Tree is outside waiting to be collected by the local council who will recycle it around the 17th.

and my old name is back sad

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 05-Jan-12 19:22:19

We could have a Christmas day summer picnic and make fake snow <<squeeee>>

molepom Thu 05-Jan-12 19:26:35

My aussie mates do something called Christmas in July. I'm not quite sure what it's about but it sounds good.

Scout19075 Thu 05-Jan-12 19:43:10

I used to do Christmas in July (in the States) when I worked at summer camp or at the day care. It ws good fun.

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 05-Jan-12 19:44:20

I want two Christmas' grin

LordOfTheFlies Thu 05-Jan-12 20:09:12

QVC (shopping channel) do Christmas in July.

It used to be really good, they brought loads of products over from USA.
But now it just seems to be the Clearance stuff under a new name.

My plan for next year is to buy loads of Yankee Candles for Christmas.
I bought 3 apple scents (Apple Cider, MacIntosh Spice and Red Apple wreath) and Vanilla Lime with Christmas Cupcake and Christmas Cookie.
And I used them all well before Christmas blush

molepom Thu 05-Jan-12 21:15:54

I need inspiration..

Due to a massive leak where the decorations were stored, everything was destroyed so I've had to start from scratch, not that I'm complaining.

So I got loads of white and silver decorations but the kids have requested some coloured lights.

If I'm going to have colourd lights on the tree I will need coloured decorations only I dont know what colour to go for...there's sooooo many to chose from.

What theme did you have for last year?

BarryStar Thu 05-Jan-12 23:18:04

Hi everyone. Bought next year's cards today (depsite being loudly ridiculed by my friend). Like the idea of taking pics of what I've bought, although I suspect I may find that even more challenging than mastering spreadsheets.

lucysmam - I got some really nice ribbon in Wilkos, it had a sort of peacocky bluey/greeny pattern with gold in it. Sounds horrid, but was lovely, honest, and also cheap.

molepom - last year I had a new settee which is kind of slate grey, and I put purple cushions on it. So I decorated the tree in red, purple and gold - it was horrid and just didnt look right! So this year I faffed about and bought some teal coloured baubles, some more purple ones, some silver ones etc. In the end I just did the whole tree in red with white lights, and it looked much better than last year. That wasn't a terribly helpful answer, sorry! I also have baubles in gold, green, and pink which I have used in past years.

And I'm ashamed to report that the newly discovered tin of Quality Street will not make it to next year, it is sadly depleted since last night blush

SantieMaggie Thu 05-Jan-12 23:37:43

ooh am loving this thread!

i dont feel like ive had a xmas due to bereavement and illness so would very much like a nice one this year sad

the qs probably wouldve been out of date by next year anyway wink

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 05-Jan-12 23:46:50

lordof I got the 12 days of Christmas Yankee set ( although it's changed it's name to...??..memories) 12 different samplers in a book display. Is lovely!!

mole red and gold here. Think I need a new tree next year or to try tinsel hmm as looked a bit sparse and "gappy"

Welcome santie

MamaPizza Fri 06-Jan-12 07:42:36

Good luck for next week, peanuts. I had this last year after being signed off for three months, I was so much in tears the days leading up to the return.

Will have a ponder about my name. Mistletoe, I didn't have turkey pizza. It's a long standing nickname from my friends at uni which has to do with my real name and my favourite food. grin

So, Christmas officially over today, eh? sad Even the Christmas smileys are gone. Ah well, not long til Easter [bunny]! I like Christmas in July, have heard that a few people do it in the states. Where do you all live? I am bang in the middle of the country, Staffordshire.

Mole, have a look on my facebook Christmas album (in case you haven't nosed already wink). We had a rainbow colour theme, it was easy to get decorations. Baubles, stars etc were all in blue, green, pink, purple and yellow which sounds crazy but it worked. Some were 'posher' and more expensive and I filled it with cheapo multipacks from Asda and similar.

molepom Fri 06-Jan-12 10:35:40

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, have bookmarked more places for the decorations, got 2 boxes of cards today so those are now away.

I need to start planning about making some stocking for the kids as they have asked for those to be replaced even if nothing in them, so I'm going to have to learn to knit I think. I want some proper knitted ones like I had when I was a kid, not the felt ones you get now.

PeanutButterCupCake Fri 06-Jan-12 10:52:03

Thanks Mama am ignoring it until next week!
Im east yorkshire...I drive though grin

lucysmam Fri 06-Jan-12 17:36:17

Thanks BarryStar, am off into town with dp and the kids tomorrow so will drag them in wilko's again to see if they have any ribbon left.

I like the sound of Christmas in July, will google later on, sounds fun. Although I think it may be counter-productive as my dd1 would expect gifts again hmm

mole we had silver, red and gold on the tree although dd2 pulled everything off the bottom so it looked odd grin and snowflakes/trees cut from coloured paper strung from the ceiling. Was very festive & now it looks very very bare sad

CavemanDave Fri 06-Jan-12 17:47:49

May I join?
Having had possibly the stressiest Christmas on record (for us) I have vowed that Preparation Is All for 2012.

molepom Fri 06-Jan-12 17:55:20

Welcome CavemanDave (loving the usename BTW)

Lucy'smam, I've got a load of ribbon, wired and non wired, half price and less from Clintons cards, try there.

lucysmam Fri 06-Jan-12 20:49:51

Oooh, mole I never venture in Clinton Cards....dp thinks too pricey.....Now I have an excuse grin

Have done my list of bits for both girls' stockings today so will start getting those over the next few weeks and then get some individual bits and pieces for each once I've got them

molepom Fri 06-Jan-12 20:51:36

Lucy, they now do Yankee Candles in there too (and some of them are half price as well wink )

lucysmam Fri 06-Jan-12 21:00:23

I'll look forward to it lol

PeanutButterCupCake Fri 06-Jan-12 22:13:55

Evening all, am sad the festive smileys have gone sad
lucysmam I'm a Yankee addict [fblush]
Welcome cavemandave what went wrong this year?

molepom Fri 06-Jan-12 22:17:44

Another yankee addict here and proud of it - even got a mate into it who didnt see the fuss (she now spends more on it that I do!)

PeanutButterCupCake Fri 06-Jan-12 22:25:46

The Christmas ones are lush mole
I'm over run with them at the minute, Christmas and a December birthday grin

molepom Fri 06-Jan-12 22:26:28

I have Welcome Christmas and Christmas Eve, there's not as many I like this year as there was last year.

molepom Fri 06-Jan-12 22:26:59

Warm woollen mittens is nice as well

(I can talk about yankee candles all day)

PeanutButterCupCake Fri 06-Jan-12 23:31:14

I love the mulled wine and spice ones, the Christmas cookie/ cupcake is lively too. Am loving the samplers so you can change regularly!

molepom Sat 07-Jan-12 10:28:27

There's a mulled wine and spice one? I missed that one.

PeanutButterCupCake Sat 07-Jan-12 10:49:02

Two separate ones I meant grin think the spice one was sparkling cinnamon?

molepom Sat 07-Jan-12 10:53:21

I wasnt keen on that one but I'm gutted about missing the mulled wine one

molepom Sat 07-Jan-12 10:56:05

OK, found a sampler on Amazon and ordered it.

PeanutButterCupCake Sat 07-Jan-12 13:16:20

Excellent grin
I've now discovered I can burn the samplers and when the wick runs out put the remaining wax in the burner....double burn time!
I love Yankee, wonder if they need any fragrance testers?

molepom Sat 07-Jan-12 14:47:46

OMG! I never thought of that! I've just thrown a jar away with a good 1/2 inch left in the bottom.

PeanutButterCupCake Sat 07-Jan-12 16:38:15

Fish it out of the bin! Go rescue it grin

molepom Sat 07-Jan-12 16:49:09

Cant, bin was Thursday. sad

LordOfTheFlies Sat 07-Jan-12 23:50:42

YY I chip the last bit out of the jar to go in the tart burner.
And the spent wax in the tart burner goes in the bin under the bin-liner to scent it.

SalamiPizza Sun 08-Jan-12 09:59:52

Oooh, nothing beats good mulled wine at a German Christmas market. Not long, only 11 months to go grin

Candles? Ha ha, yes if I ever got rid of the dog and the child I might actually attempt having some.

SalamiPizza Sun 08-Jan-12 10:05:08

Oh, and trying out Salami at the moment. What do you think?

PeanutButterCupCake Sun 08-Jan-12 10:30:27

I'm not to keen on salami, it's my least fave toppinggrin
I like mama...boohooooo.
What about pepperoni? Yum!

PeanutButterCupCake Sun 08-Jan-12 10:31:42

Good idea lotf

lucysmam Sun 08-Jan-12 12:11:35

Well, we didn't make it to town yesterday, or today....only me who could be arsed to go & really not in the mood now. DP in a strop about nothing in particular & the kids are still in pj's so I will just look for bargainous ribbon or bows on Tuesday when I nip in instead.

Have added my 1st item of food shopping to this weeks list for next xmas (cue another hmm look from dp)

PeanutButterCupCake Tue 10-Jan-12 13:23:35

Morning all grin

Just checking in. First day back at work tomorrow, am but scared!

How is everyone?

mama/salami what did you decide name wise?
I've started a thread, I want a new witty/ edgy name but can't think of one!

Please can I join? got a bit excited when I spotted this thread.
I have so far got cards, wrapping and gift tags from clintons all wrap had 75% off. I was really happy when I spotted the packs of cards for ds reception year for 25p in marks and spencers, I got 3 and whilst I was passing I nipped into card factory and picked up 10 rolls for £1 (not the best quality but its for my own 3 ds's who don't pay any attention to the wrap)
My aim is to get 1 to 2 extended family gifts popped away each month then hopefully I won't be racing around like a lunatic the week before Christmas.

MamaPizza Wed 11-Jan-12 06:03:07

I am back to Mama, Salami didn't look right.

All the best for going back today. I hope it will all go well.

I wish they'd stop stocking Christmas chocolate at Lidl. I am fat enough grin

Welcome, worn. You got some great bargains there.

MamaPizza Wed 11-Jan-12 06:03:35

By the way, I love your name Peanuts!

lucysmam Wed 11-Jan-12 11:10:06

Nipped into town yesterday........bought 4 packs of 25p cards from Sainsbury's and some nice fancy red ribbon for 50p for everyone but the kid's presents (they really don't care what they look like).

Am half way through sequinning dd1's name on her stocking, aim to finish that tonight in between purchasing a book light for my kindle and making dp some lunch for work tomorrow and then start dd2's. Their name's are in red so was thinking about doing a snowman on each as well in silver <feeling quite creative>

DP still thinks I'm mental to be planning now but have started bookmarking bits like a chalk board on Ikea website for £15.99, just have to ask my dad to drive me there to get one at some point before I forget and think of some random plastic tat to get them instead.

How is everyone else doing?

MamaPizza Thu 12-Jan-12 08:35:52

lucysmam, you sound very creative. Maybe you can make it a business and sell personalized stockings?

Chalkboards are always great, better than some plastic tat. DS loves his.

Is it just me who hates this time of the year?

PeanutButterCupCake Thu 12-Jan-12 14:48:47

No mama me too!

How's dream holiday planning going?

lucysmam Thu 12-Jan-12 15:02:46

Too much like hard work Mama, although....I have been thinking about getting back into work when the kids are older so maybe worth thinking about grin

I may even attempt making some cards from myself and dp this year (only send out about 6 and have loads of time on my hands while he's working and dd1 is at school), could be fun

I like the idea of being creative, in reality, I never really bothered before but I figured since I'm starting so early I have time to do the stuff I always want to do.

Both kids already have little Poundland Chalkboards but we had one as I was growing up & it was always a constant 'toy' that was out so I think my 2 would enjoy it

Where's the dream holiday to? <nosey>

MamaPizza Fri 13-Jan-12 08:44:01

I have a couple of creative friends whose businesses thrive and they are especially on demand at Christmas time. You could look into it, as long as you find the time to get orders ready on time. You could start now, have a few ready and just stitch on names for when people order.

The dream holiday is to Disneyworld, Florida. I have been looking at the websites recommended on the thread, but at the moment I don't want to get too excited. If I got this job in September (there is a good possibility at one of my supply schools, but not holding my breath) we could make the dream come true. But as all is a big if I'd rather not get too much into it.
My bigger worry is this year's holiday. We foolishly put a big deposit down last summer when I still had a job but now we have to find the final 1k to pay it off and if I don't find work soon, we won't be able to go and will lose the deposit sad Wish we had kept our money, but I really thought I was in a stable job.

PeanutButterCupCake Sun 15-Jan-12 13:58:22

Where is it too mama?
That's disappointing sad am keeping my fingers crossed for you on the job front.

<<waves to lucys>>

lucysmam Sun 15-Jan-12 14:08:46

Oh mama, I hope you get it, it's a nightmare not having a decent job (dp was unemployed on and off for 5 years until 2 weeks ago because he kept taking jobs in warehouses where if there's no work, there's no work. Thankfully he recently took a job in marketing and is loving it)

MamaPizza Mon 16-Jan-12 06:54:55

It's to Zante, Greece. One of those splash hotels - waterpark right by the hotel - so the big and the little boy can have fun while I soak in the sun.

Congrats on your DH getting a job, lucysmam. It is so frustrating.

The perfect job has just come up for me, so will apply. Need to keep my options open and can't be too fussy in case the other one doesn't work out. Fingers crossed.

How is everyone else?

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 16-Jan-12 07:13:14

Oooh I've always fancied Zante. Looks lovely. Good luck with the application!
My friend moves to Crete this year sad so be spending some time there I hope.
Am knackered back at work, not used to these early mornings grin

Haven't seen mole or mrs recently.

MamaPizza Mon 16-Jan-12 08:00:34

Already knackered? Ha ha grin How did the first days go? Was it ok?

Mole was on FB this weekend, but haven't seen her here and Mrs is probably a busy bee as usual.

lucysmam Mon 16-Jan-12 11:53:04

<<crosses fingers for mama>> good luck!

Have both girls at home ill today so not much going on, am off to town tomorrow hopefully though if they're better, going to see if I can pick up some cheap socks/vests each for stocking fillers. And have a look for some reduced card making bits in The Works and Boyes (sp), should keep me busy for a while if I do

Other than that, the house is a tip so will have to do something about that, although it's mainly toys and I'm hopeless at clearing them out so may just bung them somewhere out of sight for now and concentrate on the rest

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 16-Jan-12 17:04:13

Am not used to any sort of physical exertion, they won't let me go in my pjs or provide a sofa to lay on mama grin

MamaPizza Sat 21-Jan-12 08:20:20

Oh dear, I have worked two days last week and I am shattered. Not used to this working thing anymore. And I had to get dressed, how dare they grin Peanuts, we should demand to work in our joggers or pjs!

I like the idea of buying socks / vests etc early, will keep my eyes open.

molepom Tue 24-Jan-12 16:58:12

I'm here! I'm here...sorry.

Been busy with college and the kids and trying to get this house straightened out.

College is taking up every spare minute at the moment as I'm trying to get this project finished. I will have completed one of the courses tomorrow so that's an afternoon to myself, which will help loads but will be taken up with planning and researching for the next project which starts next week.

DS hasnt been doing well at school as got called to pick him up yesterday after an emotional break down - poor thing.

DD has had school trips and events nearly every day last week so nothing at home has been done but she's happy, tired but happy.

Other than that I'm trying to save up for new front door and back door but it's hard and will takes ages, also need new internal doors downstairs asap as well as skirting as I'm not happy with the job I did before, so will be taking that off and starting again - this time with the proper tools.

SO...

How is everyone?

PeanutButterCupCake Tue 24-Jan-12 20:37:18

Yay molepom

What course are you doing?
I'm back at work on reduced hours for a few more weeks and am knackered! 3 months of being off sick and you forget what it's like

You said on other thread you were near me, remind me? smile

Poor DS what's been happening with him?

molepom Tue 24-Jan-12 20:46:52

I'm in South Yorks

I'm doing a furniture making course and a DIY/Joinery course which finishes tomorrow. The furniture one is great and I'm really enjoying it, just this set piece is dragging and I've had so many problems with it. We have free reign next week and can make what we like but it has to be slightly more complicated than what we are doing now (bedside cabinet, solid wood, door, drawer and adjustable shelf), no screws (except for the back, door hinges and handles) or nails, proper joints all made of wood and it's been a right headache at times. I've swung from wanting to kick the thing across the carpark to being very protective over it and am actually quite fond of it now.

My next project is my long wanted coffee table but it HAS to have 2 drawers, just looking at designs now, then will start drawing up plans and cutting lists to work out how much raw timber I will need.

DS is a long story and it's an ongoing problem, not helped by his autism and other stuff.

molepom Tue 24-Jan-12 20:48:14

lol, I know what you mean about trying to get back into the swing of things. 3 days at college after having 6 months off from work for other reasons took ages to get used to and organised around.

PeanutButterCupCake Wed 25-Jan-12 06:02:35

Very impressive! Nearest I get to furniture making is flat pack and it has a tendency to fall to bits after a while , I do try blush

Hope things get a little easier for DS soon.

Can't stop, work is calling, I'd much prefer my bed this morning grin

PeanutButterCupCake Wed 25-Jan-12 06:04:31

<<waves to mama>> I missed your last post!

Leisure wear and slippers to work sounds awfully appealing grin

MamaPizza Wed 25-Jan-12 06:11:46

Well, I haven't worked since my moan so I am refreshed again. Hope you are slowly getting used to things, peanuts.

That sounds amazing, mole. I can build IKEA furniture, but that's about it.

Saw some lovely giant stockings at Aldi yesterday. They were £7.99 originally and reduced to £2.99. But - we are piss broke at the moment, so I didn't get any sad That would have been a good Christmas bargain, but well. £3 can go a long way when you don't have anything. I need work!!! <stomps feet>

molepom Wed 25-Jan-12 08:04:31

Mama sad it's shit being that skint. Hope you get work soon x

LOL about the flat pack, that's one of the reasons why I've done it. I'm sick to death of furniture falling apart and I'm not paying £300+ for a coffee table, so I night as well learn how to make stuff so I can sell it and then with any luck DS can work with me.

PeanutButterCupCake Wed 25-Jan-12 09:22:44

That's shitty mama hope you find a job soon, am crossing my fingers for you smile

Am on a break n Mumsnetting grin

molepom Sat 28-Jan-12 10:45:09

I think I may take up knitting.

I've seen some lovely stockings but can't afford them. The last time I knitted anything I was 8.

I've seen a few finely knitted decorations too but don't know is that will too, twee, if you know what I mean.

May have to think about it some more.

MamaPizza Sun 29-Jan-12 15:54:55

Knitting? Jeez, you are all real ladies. I can't even get a yarn through a needle. I'd better hide grin

Only 11 months to go!!!

molepom Sun 29-Jan-12 15:59:32

lol

I was thinking about it, but I know what I'm like, I wont bother in the end.

Yay! 11 months, not long now until we can start preparing for it.

blush I'm already thinking of places to take the DC before Christmas in 2012.
Need to plan ahead with these things, and have a back-up plan in case of adverse weather. DH just sighs. He can't see why the planning is essential ,as well as being one of the nice bits.

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 30-Jan-12 10:18:33

I want to Learn to knit to mole have visions if a lively hand knitted blanket to snuggle under. I used to be able to knit a scarf when I was younger but have forgot how to do it sad

mama how's the job search going?

Where are you thinking of going so far 70?
Planning is the exciting bit grin

MamaPizza Tue 31-Jan-12 06:11:57

I worked yesterday and will be working today! Oh my, it was reception class yesterday. I am secondary and so used to rude, stroppy teenagers and then those demanding, but sweet youngsters. It was fun, but erm different. Nursery class today, that will be even more challenging. Give me a sweary teenager any time, I think I can deal better with them grin

PeanutButterCupCake Wed 01-Feb-12 18:37:42

Yay!! Oh no primary kids everytime. Teenagers are scary grin

How did nursery go today?

MamaPizza Thu 02-Feb-12 08:13:03

Nursery was even scarier. I am definitely not made for primary. Enjoying a long weekend now grin

molepom Fri 10-Feb-12 15:41:16

Oh my GOD, it's freezing and the heating has been on all day and I still can't get warm.

Plus I have no idea what to do for dinner...shopping arriving tomorrow so there isnt a lot in and cant afford a take away because of the shopping I've just done.

MrsDeeBee Fri 10-Feb-12 15:51:55

I have just come across this thread.

Hello, All. smile

Hope you are all well, and keeping warm.

I have missed you all, glad I found you ! grin

PeanutButterCupCake Sun 12-Feb-12 06:28:27

Yay mrs your here! Wondered where you'd got too smile

mole it is fricking freezing! Just getting ready for work and to de ice the ice sculpture that is my car sad

mama how's the job hunt going?

<<waves to all>>

MamaPizza Sun 12-Feb-12 17:23:37

Ello grin

Welcome back Mrs! Another name change, but worked it out after looking at it for aaaages

No job, boo sad But it's halfterm now anyway and DS will be in nursery the next two days so I shall sort some things out around the house and garden sit on my arse and watch crappy TV in peace and drink too much coffee

MamaPizza Sat 25-Feb-12 11:44:05

10 months!!!
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 27-Feb-12 19:28:53

mama shock

molepom Thu 01-Mar-12 20:09:27

Who-hoo!!!

Helenagrace Sun 18-Mar-12 09:19:57

Oooh I didn't think there would be other people like me already planning next Christmas.

Can I join pleeeeeaaaasse?

Our house is on the Market at the moment and we're hoping to move 100 miles away. DH thinks I'm mad that I look for "the Christmas tree spot" in every house we view. It is normal isn't it?

MamaPizza Sun 18-Mar-12 19:50:49

Welcome to the mad house <waves>

When we moved into our current house I was excited about the bay window (1930s house) - my special Christmas tree spot grin

Only 9 months and a week to go!!!

Helenagrace Sun 18-Mar-12 20:42:41

mama a bay window would be my dream!

Helenagrace every house I go into (and I go into lots of houses .Not because I'm a professional Nosey Parker.I do visits at work. And when I go to DCs mates houses) I think where the tree should go. It's entirely normal. And I'm not even buying these houses!

Must.Get.A.Life blush

molepom Sat 24-Mar-12 15:23:03

LOL..I went for a walk last week and found LOADS of holly bushes, I'm already planning the wreath and decorations I can make out of them. I even went as far as knocking on the doors of the holly bushes owners and asking if it was ok if I cut a few branches off later in the year much to the amusement and laughter of a mate and the house owner.

And get this...I've found 3 different types of holly!!!!!

MamaPizza Mon 26-Mar-12 20:05:12

Ha ha, you are bonkers! should not confess that I sang Christmas songs yesterday

molepom Sun 08-Apr-12 09:49:51

Look at what i've found!!!

A christmas forum! See you all on there soon xxxx

JIGGLE CLICKY

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 14-May-12 12:09:14

Hi ladies!

How are we all?

I have terrible PMT today, everything is worrying me....including having to work at Christmas and what shifts I'll get....

<<raving loon>>

Somebody slap me grin

milk Mon 14-May-12 12:39:57

PeanutButterCupCake: I will not slap you, but I shall give you a Reeses peanut butter cup smile

What job do you do?

MamaPizza Mon 14-May-12 15:51:55

Helloooooo. We are almost on the home-run!!!

Peanuts, train to be a teacher grin Although the downside is that I always have to pay full whack for holidays.

MamaPizza Mon 14-May-12 15:52:32

And that website is funny! We are not the only loons wink

PeanutButterCupCake Mon 09-Jul-12 18:32:39

Hi all smile

Longtime no see! I remembered this thread as have got "santa claus is coming to town" going round in my head hmm

How is everyone?

I'm a nurse milk I don't wanna work Christmas <<stamps feet>>

MamaPizza Wed 01-Aug-12 10:33:20

Hello!!! Just realized it's August today, we are on the home run, ladies grin

I really hope you don't have to work Christmas. The downside of an admirable job I suppose.

16th September it's only 100 days, so make that 147 days until Christmas, yeeehah!

ILoveChristmas01 Wed 01-Aug-12 18:17:35

Yay...!!!!!!! I love Christmas - even more now I have a family. Just can't wait - started Christmas shopping this week - got some fab deals from the bookpeople website xxx

MamaPizza Wed 01-Aug-12 20:00:28

Aw, baby's first Christmas I assume? It's awesome with children. I haven't got presents yet. Am I too late? Am I going to manage to get everything on time? grin

OvO Wed 01-Aug-12 20:07:09

Can I join in please? grin

I'm always pretty organised for Christmas but this year I seem to have most of the presents bought already. blush Even got a start on stocking fillers and have the Christmas Eve pyjamas already bought. My Christmas cross stitch is almost finished too! This is unheard of; all my Christmas cross stitches get started in time but then put aside and finished roughly three years later!

I blame this forum for making me start everything so early this year. grin

molepom Wed 01-Aug-12 20:37:39

I can't wait! I'm bored of this now...No sun, no summer, I made a sodding casserole yesterday, bought a wool cardigan and a blanket on Monday...

HEADS UP! John lewis are already selling christmas decorations online! I've bookmarked loads already and am buying them bit by bit.

Online Bodyshop voucher for 40% off and free gift when you spend over £5.00 is.....19804

I had a look at the John Lewis site, their decorations are lovely.
We always buy a new decoration for the Christmas tree each year.

I've bought books for DS from The Works and a Marvins Magic Set for DD.
So that's a start to my present pile and it's only August grin

Will have a look at Body Shop online too. thanks

milk Thu 02-Aug-12 07:47:58

I really need Christmas this year!!! I need the joy and the magic it brings smile

molepom Thu 02-Aug-12 07:59:05

Same here milk...for some reason, this year in particular seems to me really, dull...more than usual. I'm sure the weather is the reason for that. It seems to be in a constant state of Limbo which leaves everything else up in the air as you can't plan for anything.

Been trying to book train tickets to take the kids to the beach for 3 days now, but it wont stop piggin raining. Now it's seems dry today we cant go anywhere as I'm waiting for ds's new bed.

anychocswilldo Fri 03-Aug-12 15:18:14

Ooooo can I join this thread? I can't wait till Christmas and now its August it doesn't seem so far away. I'm going to start shopping for the smaller presents at the end of this month and will get bigger things in November. I really want to have bought everything and have everything wrapped by beginning of December so I can do house and enjoy doing things with the kids. I'm v excited!
tho dh thinks I'm mad to be planning already

milk Fri 03-Aug-12 15:47:10

Which are the best pre-Christmas sales?

I know Amazon has their lightening deals in November, and Sainsburys has their half price toy sale in October.

IamnotaStepfordHousewife Sat 04-Aug-12 14:01:44

Sooo excited. Have been watching my Kirsties Homemade Christmas recording on sky plus from last year blush got paper and cards in Jan sales and busy making knitted teddies for all the little ones in our family. Also scarves for adults and chutney. Thinking of doing a Christmas eve hamper.

molepom Sat 04-Aug-12 15:05:26

You HAVE to do a Christmas Eve Hamper! That's when the magic really kicks in for the kids.

PJ's
Hot chocolate
DVD's
Bubble bath
Sweets or popcorn
Toothbrush
Little note from Santa's Elves.

IamnotaStepfordHousewife Sat 04-Aug-12 15:26:26

Thanks for the suggestions molepom my DC will only have turned 1 in the October so not quite sure if the hamper will be more for me at this stage than for him smile

iamstitch Sat 04-Aug-12 15:38:12

Just found this thread, can I join?

I LOVE Christmas grin I have to be super organised as we have the birthdays of 2 of our DC at the end of November so there's lots to think about!! Which means lists, lists and more lists grin I'm OCD organised grin

I've started my Christmas shopping but struggle every year to not get over excited and give them bits and pieces before hand.

If anyone's got some family traditions they would share I'd be really grateful. Eeeeek!!!!

molepom Sat 04-Aug-12 18:54:29

Then you add a bottle of wine or two and some expensive choccies in the hamper seeing as your LO is too young.

Welcome IAMSTITCH...

I don't have any family tradtions as I'm trying to start some....one that I will be doing is something that was done to us at college last year....

Another student is German and ordered us to clean our workboots for the next day (fair enough they were mucky anyway) and we had theory the next morning so were told to keep them by the wall.

On a certain date in Nov (will research it to find out what it is), the elves visit your house to make sure your shoes and bedrooms are clean and tidy. As a reward and thankyou they leave a small bag of sweets or chocolates in your shoes.

We returned to put on our boots to find she had put in them, a small bag of assorted chocolates in a polythene bag, tied with a ribbon with a little tiny note from the elves reminding us to be good. It was a lovely touch from a lovely woman and one I am determined to carry on.

iamstitch Sun 05-Aug-12 14:14:02

Thanks molepom I've just discovered tip junkie. My idea of heaven! Hopefully there will be some lovely Christmas ideas I can pinch from there! grin

milk Sun 05-Aug-12 14:30:20

"PJ's
Hot chocolate
DVD's
Bubble bath
Sweets or popcorn
Toothbrush
Little note from Santa's Elves."

My additions:
- Marshmallows (for hot chocolate)
- Mini chocolate flakes (again for hot chocolate)
- Fleece slipper socks or electric foot warmers (the socks are cheaper)
- I would have both sweets (pick n mix type) and popcorn (toffee) grin
- Cashmere blanket

fuzzpig Sun 05-Aug-12 15:05:09

hello! smile I just wanted to join in as I seem to be on most of the other Xmas threads and didn't want to miss anything grin

I might have two DVDs for our hamper this year - I got 'the Christmas toy' (Jim Henson kids film which I loved as a child) and can't wait to show it to the DCs, but I might get White Christmas for me and DH to watch later.

molepom Sun 05-Aug-12 20:00:18

Ooooh, thanks Fuzz,

I never thought about getting a DVD for myself...might have to look into that now.

Dawndonna Sun 05-Aug-12 21:27:16

We always do a christmas eve present. They are sent to their rooms after tea, there they will find either new bedding, jim jams, slippers, dressing gown. Something along the lines of snuggly bedtime things. They get changed and then we settle for film and nibbles.

buzzgirly Mon 06-Aug-12 09:07:12

Hi everyone. Only 20 weeks to go! Is it a bit sad that dd and iwere dancing to Christmas music yesterday? My inlaws thought I was a bit mad!

I love hearing about everyone's traditions so I can steal them! I started some traditions last year after discovering these boards. We did Elf on the Shelf (which was brilliant), Christmas eve hamper and we covered the living room door with wrapping paper so dd had to burst through it. This year I plan to do a Christmas activity everyday in December with dcs - the elf will bring the new activity each day, pantomime, visiting family to deliver presents. I have also been collecting empty jars so that we can leave a row of tea candles on drive for Santa to find house. Just moved so DH was a bit hmm when he saw me packing jar.

I love Christmas, and I am determined to spread it out through as much of December as possible. I always find boxing day and onwards such an anti-climax does anyone do anything interesting?

fuzzpig Mon 06-Aug-12 10:56:44

Last year I hated boxing day. We have my parents round (Xmas day is just for us) and it is just so... meh.

Last year my mum gave us the contents of her work's Lost Property box in lieu of a present. I wonder why I hated Xmas as a child hmm

I'm not sure what we are arranging this year - maybe have them round on 24th to get it out of the way or something. But we have agreed to put some money aside for the sales just so we can buy ourselves a little something after the anticlimax.

funkybuddah Tue 07-Aug-12 08:54:22

Dd has asked to watch the polar express today!

Who am I to refuse smile

anychocswilldo Tue 07-Aug-12 11:41:39

funkybuddah I keep trying to persuade dd1 to watch The Polar Express but she only wants to watch bloody Mulan on repeat sad i'm going to watch it tonight when dc's are in bed and I don't care what dh says

IamnotaStepfordHousewife Tue 07-Aug-12 13:46:11

Buzzgirly what is Elf on the shelf?

buzzgirly Thu 09-Aug-12 13:29:06

Iamnota Elf on the Shelf is an American tradition. The elf arrives before Christmas, ours came on 1st December, and keeps an eye on your children until the big day. He flies to the North Pole every night to tell Santa about good/bad behaviour, and is in a new hiding place every morning which dc have to find. Hope that amakes sense! I bought the Elf on the Shelf pack which came with the doll and book.

There are a few threads on mumsnet about it all if you do a search. I only started this last year after seeing it on mumsnet, but I was more excited about this than Christmas day. It's a really nice way of extending the whole festive season. i should get commission, I am always talking about it!

molepom Tue 28-Aug-12 09:53:26

Bored.

Been online shopping and having to cancel the order at the last minute. I can't justify buying any more decorations.

I am trying to find though 1 thing which I saw last year and havn't seen it since.

I think it was either ebay or amazon...a red, metal, christmas village which held tea lights. I can't find them anywhere...will anyone else have a go?

MamaPizza Wed 17-Oct-12 07:18:34

EEEEEEK!

Not long to go! I am getting really giddy now, can't wait grin

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Wed 17-Oct-12 10:36:44

mamapizza oh hurrah!!! I've found you smile

It's me Peanut, was asking molepom if she'd seen you around.

How are you?

Where's mrsDB?

Is it time for a new thread yet?

MamaPizza Wed 17-Oct-12 17:13:04

Hello peanuts! Wahey! smile

I'm fine, thanks. Working full-time again, got shit loads of money to spend this Christmas grin grin grin It's going to be friggin awesome! Real tree for the first time, and the rest. So can't wait.

Haven't seen MrsDB around.

Dunno, shouldn't we just stick to this? And one of us updates every morning as in 60 days to go or whatever it is. Just checking, today is 68 days!!!

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Wed 17-Oct-12 18:12:49

Yes and start counting down threads in dec?

Congrats on working full time again smile

I can't stop spending, every day I'm off I think " oh I'll just have a look" and come back with Christmas gifts.

I'm now off the main days of Christmas as temp moving to a management position.....wahooooo!

My name is usually ChestyNut now.

MamaPizza Wed 17-Oct-12 20:04:29

ChestyNut roasting on an open fire grin

Counting down in Dec separately sounds fab. Don't want to clutter up the boards. Yet. ;)

Cool for having Christmas off.

I think I got all of DSs gifts already, although I know he will get even more. ELC had a fab sale not long ago, got some real bargains.

As I am so much in the Christmas spirit I have already annoyed new collagues at work and we are going to have a tutor group best Christmassy decorated room competition in December. Can't wait to get my form get it all pretty and festive. Have already browsed catalogues and I am going to get some pretty wooden ornaments that they can paint in form time, some window decorations that they can create and they can cut out stars and I'll get a tree and so much more I got planned. Can we skip November? Pretty please. I want it to be December NOW!

BollocksToKarma Wed 17-Oct-12 20:53:02

Hello my darlings! I was wondering where you all got to.

I bought another 3 decorations the other day, I'm getting far too impatient now.

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Wed 17-Oct-12 21:40:33

Yay it really feels like Christmas now just need mrsdb!

I am sooo stuck on what to get DB....heeeelp me?

MamaPizza Thu 18-Oct-12 16:31:02

How old is DB? What does he like?

I really, really, really want to skip November. What a pointless month.

BollocksToKarma Thu 18-Oct-12 16:42:03

Novemeber has bonfire night and it's the run up to December, not a pointless month at all. That's when most of my last second shopping gets done.

Chesty, we need an idea of what he likes...quirky stuff? what's his sense of humour?

MamaPizza Thu 18-Oct-12 19:10:15

Nah, don't like bonfire night, scares my dog. Last second shopping, ha ha. That's funny.

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Thu 18-Oct-12 20:55:36

Hello...pesky work interfering with my MNing.

He's 27 and likes Xbox his car, the gym, films, family guy, dexter, clothes etc.
Am stuck and I usually buy him loads!

My dog also hates bonfire night, going to get him one of those plug ins to start soon. Fireworks last a month around here hmm

MamaPizza Sat 20-Oct-12 12:29:42

That sounds too easy, Chesty. You could virtually get anything fro him. I can see why you usally buy him loads. Maybe a new Xbox game? Something like that would probably go down well. And a family guy DVD? Dunno.

Just got DHs first presents. Lidl has some tools on sale at the moment and I saw him drooling over them the other day when he looked at their magazine. Bought, hidden, done.

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Sat 20-Oct-12 23:52:19

Has all the family guys. Has already preordered the two games he wanted and paid for them. Has an I pod.

More ideas please grin

MamaPizza Sun 21-Oct-12 08:48:51

Itunes voucher?

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Sun 21-Oct-12 09:30:35

Ive told him he has to write a wish list or else he's getting a Barbie! grin

Thinking about the Christmas tree already. Do you put tinsel on yours?
Mine is a fibre optic and normally just has hanging decorations but looks a bit sparse? Do you just wrap it round the tree or go randomly branch to branch?!

MamaPizza Tue 23-Oct-12 06:23:42

Lol at Barbie grin

My tree always has OCD. I pick a colour / theme every year and go with it. Not a fan of tinsel, just baubles, ribbons and white lights. Sometimes a pearly garland that goes all around. My favourite this far was my white and silver theme. Looked lush.

This year, due to finally working full-time again, I'm getting my first real tree. Am thinking of nordic style, but so far I haven't found much in the shops for it. Need to search the net.

MamaPizza Thu 25-Oct-12 17:12:25

2 months grin

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Thu 25-Oct-12 17:50:37

grin

Hurrah!

Am going to do a big amazon Christmas shop tommorow, can't wait!

Molepom Thu 25-Oct-12 21:10:38

First Real tree?

Then you need this website.

I recommend the Fraiser Fir. If you want the tree that you get in the American movies, this is the one you need. I got one last year, although quite expensive it is worth every single penny. Even my neighbour had a good look at it after I threw it out at the end of Jan and couldn't believe how well it's lasted.

I've ordered mine yesterday. Get the 7-8ft one...then cut a litttle off the top. It then becomes the perfect tree. Nicely shaped, needles are soft and dont fall that much and it smells great.

MamaPizza Fri 26-Oct-12 06:15:59

My Elf on the shelf arrived via Amazon yesterday. He is so cute!

Mole, I live right by a huge forest area (one of those areas of outstanding natural beauty) and they sell trees. Will go there firstly and see if they have those Fraiser Fir, they look gorgeous! So we can hand-pick our tree. Exciting!

Last day at school today, hooray!!!

Molepom Fri 26-Oct-12 08:17:57

DS has now finished for the half term, DD has her last day today....then we are on the home straight baby! When the real work begins.

I just need a couple more bits for DD, then the stocking fillers, something for mum and that's it.

I've wrapped everything I have already and hidden it. The tree is on order, decorations are being bought out today to see what needs replacing ie.dried fruit on the mantle thingy and swags..etc.

If I get DD a chocolate making kit for her Birthday then that the inlaws presents sorted out as she can make chocolates for them.

I've already got my advent candles out. I dont have the heart to put them away.

The mincemeat if festering away nicely ready for the pies. Kids have gloves and hats and stuff ready for the winter.

I've picked a recipie for the ham they want for the main meal...I need halloween and bonfire night over with.

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Fri 26-Oct-12 13:45:58

Cor mole you are super organised envy

MamaPizza Sat 27-Oct-12 20:30:13

She started in January, that's why she is organized grin

I haven't even started on stocking yet! Got main presents, but not all those little bits and bobs that really make it.

Anyway, PapaPizza loves your frasier fir tree and we are going to order one too. Checked at my local place and they just got boring ones. So, you say to get a bigger one and trim the top? Is it necessary?

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Sat 27-Oct-12 20:33:16

I'm nearly all done! In October shock

Just a few things left to get.

Am thrilled that as I've temporarily changed jobs im off all Christmas.
Found a lovely soup to cook for boxing day.

MamaPizza Sat 27-Oct-12 21:01:10

You cook on Boxing day? That's our chippie day grin

I was all done this time last year, but there was still so much loveliness in the shops after that I bought more and more. I'm just leaving it a bit late now, so I can really have a mad, crazy dash just before the finish line.

Molepom Sat 27-Oct-12 21:47:04

Mama, I would measure your room. How tall are the walls?

Order one to a foot less of that size and then you will need to take a small amout off the bottom and a small amount off the top so that the very top branch isn't so spindly and that it can take up plenty of water. Let it stand for 24 hours in a bucket of water before unwrapping it.

Place in a stand or pot of earth or what ever you are using and secure into place. Move the tree out away from the wall, unwrap and let the branches fall into place. Trim where necessary from the sides and the top then decorate and push intoits final place.

The needles are a lot softer than normal needles but the smell is just the same. As long as you keep it watered and away from the central heating it will be fine and wont drop a lot unless provoked.

It's expensive and with £10 delivery but at a date that suits you it is worth every penny. I love mine.

ChestyNutterStaringInTheWindow Sat 27-Oct-12 22:23:40

No mama am going to make it Christmas eve and just heat up boxing day!
Are takeaways open?

MamaPizza Sun 28-Oct-12 19:46:14

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! I totally forgot about the heating!!!! Usually we have the tree in the bay window, but because we have gone fish mad in the last year that spot is taken now and we wanted to put it on the other end of the room. There is a radiator! And I don't think we can turn it off separately and even if, the living room would be freezing. Argh! What to do? I don't want a fake tree.

Great advice though Mole, so if we find a spot then we'll do as you say.

And yes, chesty, our chippie is open on boxing day. It's a tradition now. We don't buy a full turkey anyway, just one of those little circular ones as it's only the three of us so we never have left overs.

Molepom Mon 29-Oct-12 17:54:48

You can always do what my parents did one year and have it in the hallway if it's big enough.

MamaPizza Tue 30-Oct-12 07:54:04

Nope, hallway too small. I seriously need to find a place. I think the only solution would be to move the fish tank temporarily. Oh poor fishies. But at least I could have my tree in the bay window as every year. Will have to consult the man of the house.

Molepom Tue 30-Oct-12 10:49:50

The new John Lewis Ad is due to be shown a week on Friday apparently..here I can't wait!

MamaPizza Tue 30-Oct-12 11:04:41

This means that Christmas starts on FRIDAY!!!!!!! grin

Molepom Tue 30-Oct-12 11:07:09

A week on Friday but Yay!

I've never, in my life, wanted halloween and Bonfire Noght out of the way so quickly.

ISeeDeadFairies Tue 30-Oct-12 11:12:31

I wanna join!!!! Please?

Molepom Tue 30-Oct-12 11:20:43

Hello!

Ready for Christmas? or getting ready?

ISeeDeadFairies Tue 30-Oct-12 11:26:55

Almost ready. Just food and tree to organise really. Feel woefully inadequate now I've read the whole thread though!

MamaPizza Tue 30-Oct-12 12:05:44

Welcome to the mad house ISeeDeadFairies smile You are very organized! Good girl grin

I don't like Halloween and Bonfire anyway, so glad when it's all over and the shops are filled with Christmas kitsch and tinsel.

Solved the tree dilemma, fish tank will be moved. Will measure room with DH tonight and then we are going to order the Frasier Fir. Am thinking of having it delivered Saturday 8th December. Is that too early for a real tree? I don't want to wait much longer. I'd even love to get it right on the first! When are you getting yours, mole?

Molepom Tue 30-Oct-12 13:19:17

I've ordered it for the 14th but I think I'm going to change it for an earlier delivery date funnily enough.

MamaPizza Wed 31-Oct-12 08:48:20

I looked at the beginning of the thread, you mentioned that you had it from the 8th last year without watering. So, hopefully that will be fine then. Can't wait, almost November!

Molepom Wed 31-Oct-12 21:59:58

Who-hoo, that's halloween over with.

Just need Bonfire night out of the way, watch the John Lewid ad on Friday and Christmas has started!

MamaPizza Thu 01-Nov-12 09:16:47

Hurrah! Didn't even carve a pumpkin this year, I just want it to be Christmas. One more month and the Elf will arrive, can't wait! First time with an elf on a shelf.

Molepom Thu 01-Nov-12 10:30:03

OK.

I couldn't wait. I've emailed the complany to ask if it can be delivered for the 7th instead.

Ooooh..that sounds exciting Mama.

Chesty where are you?

MamaPizza Thu 01-Nov-12 12:42:08

Oooops blush I just spent £60 on Christmas decorations. Went to Wilkos for some mould remover, couldn't resist having a nose at the Christmas section and lo behold, they had a whole section filled with nordic decorations. I couldn't resist and got virtually everything. Also got matching wrapping paper, ribbons, bunting - the lot! DH is going to be thrilled kill me grin

I'm having mine delivered on the 8th as it is a Saturday. Can't wait!!!!

Yes, where is Chesty?

I wish mumsnet would have automatic thingies here to upload pictures, so we could share our Christmas fun easily. I've seen it on the pumpkin post. Mumsnet, could you pleaaaaaase? thanks

Molepom Thu 01-Nov-12 13:20:34

Mama, I went to Meadowhall the other week to get ds the lego r2-d2 and got a load more christmas decs from debenhams and house of fraiser...I'm delighted that the displayes are starting already.

I got some snowballs for the tree but they were cheaper than priced on here.

MamaPizza Fri 02-Nov-12 08:43:33

I'm delighted that the displayes are starting already

Oh yes, me too! Finally!!!

I am still alive, DH likes my Christmas decs. Woohoo! He said that I could even get a few more bits and bobs when I see them. grin

Tree ordered, only getting 6-7 ft one as the star that I bought yesterday is almost a foot and the room isn't as tall as I thought.

Expecting 3 parcels from amazon today. Postie is going to loooove me. All presents for DS smile

MamaPizza Fri 02-Nov-12 22:25:48

Big Amazon parcel arrived today. Wahey! I want to plaaaaaaay grin

Molepom Sat 03-Nov-12 05:50:53

LOL.....I love this time of year!

I've been awake for a couple of hours now and gave up trying to get back to sleep some time ago, the heating has just kicked in and there's ICE all over the cars in the street.

MamaPizza Sat 03-Nov-12 10:04:47

Eeek, ice! Bring out the hot chocolate. Hope you got some more sleep.

I have bought more presents yesterday. This boy is going to be so spoilt. The thing is, I have to also get him 'German' presents. Well, I don't have to, but I want to keep up the German traditions and we will celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve in addition to Christmas day. Got him a mobigo at Tesco, reduced to £30 and will get the German cartdridge games to go with it. Spoke to vtech customer services already, they will be compatible. So at least he has a nice present from the German Christkindl. And then there is still Nikolaus on the 6th...

ChestyNutsSparklerHell Sat 03-Nov-12 11:02:50

<<rushes in>>

I'm here ladies! Thread dropped off my list and am now working 5 days a week hmm

I did a huuuuge amazon order and it's been like Christmas every morning.
Vair proud of my Santa toilet seat cover and mat grin

ChestyDog had a fit this morning so had to cancel plans and may do a spot of wrapping in front of Christmas with the kranks.

My birthdays on the 6th too mama

Waves to mole

MamaPizza Sat 03-Nov-12 11:11:51

Well, helloooooooooooooo smile

Boo to work, but just think about the money you can spend grin

Santa toilet seat cover? hmm

Hope your dog is ok again. Am saving the wrapping for later, spreading the excitement.

ChestyNutsSparklerHell Sat 03-Nov-12 11:36:46

Tis awesome mama Santas head on seat and footprints on the mat.
You are just jealous grin

I was working full time before but over 3 days.

MamaPizza Sat 03-Nov-12 12:33:22

Lol, yes I am jealous. Sounds pretty cool.

ChestyNutsSparklerHell Sat 03-Nov-12 13:58:05

I want some Christmas bunting now.
Also always fancied the white star lights that hang like a curtain at your window but not sure how you attach them etc.

What do you do on nikolaus?

Molepom Sat 03-Nov-12 15:16:52

Nikolaus?

Is that the one where the children have to clean and polish their shoes and the elves inpect them in the night. If they are clean enough they will leave a small selection of sweets and a note reminding children to be good as Christmas is coming very soon?

If not, can you please tell me whuch one that is and when it's supposed to happen?

We had it at college last year where one of the year 3 students was German and put a small bag of sweets in our safety boots as part of her tradition.

MamaPizza Sat 03-Nov-12 15:34:20

Chesty, I'll ask PapaPizza later how to attach them, he'll know.

Nikolaus is St Nick. He is basically Santa, that comes on the 6th, as on Christmas day the presents are given by the Christkindl (the angel) and not Santa. Yes, it is where the children scrub their boots and leave them in front of the fireplace and then in the morning they are magically filled.
Traditionally he brings chocolates, but many people nowadays add a little present or two or three on top. I'm going to tease DS and give him one of the VTech Switch and go dinos that he has asked for. Only one of the little ones and big brachiosaurus will be the surprise for Christmas. I just love all those extra traditions, it means I can spoil him and the celebrations are more than a day.

Molepom Sat 03-Nov-12 15:36:49

Thanks for clearing that up Mama.

MamaPizza Sun 04-Nov-12 11:30:40

You're welcome molepom smile

Chesty, DH says you hang them over the gutter and they should come supplied with hook thingies. If not, just make your own with strong wire and twist it around.

MrsDB is back, have spotted her on another thread!!!

Molepom Sun 04-Nov-12 11:36:09

Who-hoo!!!

Drag her over here Mama.

MamaPizza Sun 04-Nov-12 11:54:28

I told her already grin

You realise that in 3 weeks we are already on the second door of our advent calendar and in 4 weeks our trees will be up. WAHEY!!!!!

MamaPizza Sun 04-Nov-12 11:55:03

Oh pants, that reminds me - I need to sort out a calendar for DS. I always crafted one, but no ideas this year. Any suggestions? He loves dinosaurs hmm

Molepom Sun 04-Nov-12 11:58:53

Oooohhh!!!!!

I cant wait! I need to get DD an advent calendar, I've got DS a lego start wars one. I've got myself 3 advent candles.

Felt dinosaurs mama? One for each day? or body parts so he has to built/make/sew together for one big dinosaur?

WhatWouldGuyFawkesDo Sun 04-Nov-12 12:45:34

50 days to go, I thought I'd better get myself signed up to this thread!

MamaPizza, we are in Germany and having our first Christmas here his year, I am excited to do the St.Nikolaus thing on the 6th. Also looking to find a nice pickle decoration. I think celebrating on the 24th will feel a bit strange to us. Maybe we'll do both the 24th and 25th! smile

ChestyNutsSparklerHell Sun 04-Nov-12 14:45:38

<<waves to all>>

mama I meant the indoor ones, thanks tho smile

Dragged all the presents downstairs yesterday to wrap but then changed mind and watched deck the halls under a blanket grin

ChestyNutsSparklerHell Sun 04-Nov-12 14:45:43

<<waves to all>>

MamaPizza Sun 04-Nov-12 14:57:20

Good ideas, mole, but how on earth do I craft one?

whatwould well hallo! I miss Germany at Christmas time, it's so nice there with all the Christmas markets. Just celebrate all three like me. Always an excuse grin

Chesty, if it's UPVC buy some hooks and you can apparently screw them into the wall. That's what he says.

Molepom Sun 04-Nov-12 15:08:30

I would imagine stencil one out, then cut it inot 24 pieces...can you get someone in the Art department at school to help?

WhatWouldGuyFawkesDo Sun 04-Nov-12 15:39:27

Hallo! Ja, three celebrations sounds like the way to go! smile

WhatWouldGuyFawkesDo Sun 04-Nov-12 15:40:31

Oh and yes, I am really looking forward to the Christmas markets. Any tips welcome! We are in Frankfurt.

MamaPizza Mon 05-Nov-12 06:55:00

Thanks Mole, will see what I can work out. If not the playmobil dino calendar, that's my back up plan.

Any tips on Christmas markets? Take the bus or train, get drunk on Gluehwein and eat loads of yummy food grin

Back to school today, 7 weeks. We are getting there.

ChestyNutsSparklerHell Mon 05-Nov-12 07:02:32

Morning mama

Where is mrs do we need to go kidnap her and bring her here?

I'm going to the Christmas market this year, can't wait. Just need to book the ridiculously expensive park and ride.
Say I'd like to go every year and this year I shall grin

WhatWouldGuyFawkesDo Mon 05-Nov-12 18:05:33

smile Thanks for the tips. I don't drink though, and I am vegan, so there is never anything for me to eat at these places, except for Churros! smile

MamaPizza Tue 06-Nov-12 19:07:20

I think we have to pull in MrsDB by her ears. Seriously, where is she?

Is the Gluehwein vegan safe?

ChestyNut Tue 06-Nov-12 19:15:21

We need some sort of alarm or loudspeaker grin

WhatWouldGuyFawkesDo Wed 07-Nov-12 15:22:39

I don't know about Gluehwein, I don't drink at all, so haven't bothered researching! smile

MamaPizza Wed 07-Nov-12 16:56:04

I don't really drink alcohol. Gluehwein is the only exception. Makes you go all warm and fuzzy on the inside grin

Molepom Wed 07-Nov-12 16:57:25
WhatWouldGuyFawkesDo Wed 07-Nov-12 17:22:22

I am already warm and fuzzy, especially at Christmas! smile

Molepom Wed 07-Nov-12 17:36:06

Having the heating on and not shaving your legs DOESN'T count.

MamaPizza Wed 07-Nov-12 17:38:10

Woohoo! I'm not going to listen to anything else in the next weeks mole grin

Lol at hairy legs. <looks down and checks> Oh shit! 'Tis a bear wink

WhatWouldGuyFawkesDo Wed 07-Nov-12 18:13:01

smile Ho Ho Ho.

MamaPizza Sat 10-Nov-12 11:16:01

<squeals>

<hyperventilates>

Finally decided on an advent calendar for DS. Can't find time be arsed to create my own this year so I got this here instead. Will still add bits and bobs like fake snow around the houses to make it really Christmassy. And then just fill it with chocolate, lollipops and so on as I got enough tiny tat flying around the house.

All presents bought now, including DH. Although knowing me, I'll still get more things anyway. Someone stop me!!!

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Sat 10-Nov-12 12:08:21

<<twirls>>

Couldn't wait until the 1st December grin

Does the advent thing take up lots of room mama?

Nearly all done here too, 3 and a birthday present to buy.
Just need to make a start on the wrapping to see how much I've actually bought blush

Molepom Sat 10-Nov-12 12:37:35

Who-hoo!!!

Christmas scents are already being burned in the house, the tree is reordered for the 7th, eggnog recipie found and written out. Everything I have bought so far already wrapped and written. Cards bought and ready to write out.

Remaining food and presents bookmarked - just need ordering when I get the money together (skint week as 4 bills due out this week).

Just need to find DD's birthday presents now.

Molepom Sat 10-Nov-12 12:38:05

Are we doing the name changes already?

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Sat 10-Nov-12 14:38:53

I couldn't wait mole blush

What if someone nabbed it?!

You are soooo organised!

I have boxing day soup recipe wrote out.

Mainly bought and present wrapping to start today.

MamaPizza Sun 11-Nov-12 11:54:57

44!!!

Yay to name change! I'm in the same dilemma as last year, but will think up something.

You are so organized, mole! I'm trying to spread the joy. No wrapping until last week before Christmas.

Don't know how big the advent calendar will be, chesty, ordered it yesterday. I got two possible places for it though, depending on how much room I need. Will report back once it is here.

What do you think of the JL advert? I don't like it. Last year's made me cry, this is just blah.

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Sun 11-Nov-12 16:41:49

I've wrapped a sack full in front of Christmas with the Kranks DVD....tradition grin

Not impressed with JL advert, did see the coca cola lorry ad last night so Christmas is deffo here!

Bought a new Christmas candle today, glade I think, blackberry and fig and changes colours. Going to test it to tonight In front of I'm a celebrity smile

I've registered my namechange so no one else can nab it, but will namechange in December.

MamaPizza Mon 12-Nov-12 17:51:37

I can't believe there are still people on FB complaining that it's to early for Christmas. Seriously guys, it's only six weeks away. Time to start the panic shopping grin.

The advent calendar arrived today, but haven't looked at it yet as DS is awake. But will report back later.

Still pondering about that name change.

Neighbours have put their outside lights up! They are always super early and me and DH have a little bet going on. We mark a date in the calendar and whoever is closest can choose the next take-away. My date was 17th Nov, his was 24th so I win! He is on his way to the chippie grin

MamaPizza Mon 12-Nov-12 19:52:26

Oh, and the calendar is sweet, but can see it lasting a year only. I suppose there wasn't more to be expected as it is cardboard and only £3 delivered. But yes, it is cute. Small enough to not take over the house, but also big enough for a piece of chocolate (thinking of Kinder mini size chocs) to go in.

MamaPizza Sat 17-Nov-12 11:46:18

I'm starting to panic. I am waiting for four parcels that should have been here by now, all presents. I just want them to arrive, so I know they are here with me and safe. Argh!

I also waiting on some deliveries, including something that a pal was meant to bring over from the US but had to cancel because of Sandy, so not sure if that will even get here. 37 days to go - loads of time! shock

MamaPizza Sat 17-Nov-12 19:05:12

Only 37 days? shock I need to have all presents at home, ready to be wrapped waaaay before that!

Made a call today to one of the presents for DH. There is only one shop in the UK to sell it. Told the guy my concern and he said that the supplier promised to bring them in before the end of the month and they will send it out straight to me. He'd better be right, I need this present!

Other worry is Amazon Germany delivery. Was dispatched in two parcels, both same day. The first one arrived Wednesday, no sign of the other one yet. Surely, them being dispatched same day it should have been here. Really worried, argh!

Fingers crossed all the deliveries arrive. Yours from the US sounds just as nail biting.

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Sat 17-Nov-12 19:16:44

evening smile

DM ordered a game from Amazon and two weeks later still hadn't arrived, we contacted them and they sent out another that came in two days confused

Need to do some more wrapping but have sinus infection/flu/vomit thing going on.....nice!

I wish Amazon wouldn't split orders. I ordered four items in one go, and they have sent me three emails saying I'm getting three different packages. I only want to be bothered by the postal delivery worker once, not several times. That's if they ever turn up! Hope your things arrive in good time and you can chill.
My item from the States is a gift for toddler DS, he won't really be bothered if it is late, I'd just like for my stuff to get here so I don't have to think about it any more.

Chesty, get well soon. thanks

MamaPizza Sun 18-Nov-12 08:51:25

Oh no chesty, that's pants. Hope you feel better soon thanks

I really don't get the splitting orders, especially as I had to pay postage as they are coming from Germany and I requested to have it all in one. If it isn't here by mid next week I shall call and hopefully they will send me replacement. Do they do this?

How old is your DS, WWVD? Mine is 3.

Anyway, Santa has sent a letter overnight!!! grin He must have sent it via magic! DS woke up and loved his letter that was hanging from the door letter thingy. The letter is a hello from Santa saying that he is getting rather busy at this time of the year and that we should keep our eyes open for a special package to be delivered soon. How exciting! He also wrote some lovely things about DS. He is really watching!

Ok, reality check now. Obviously our elf on the shelf will arrive soon, wanted to prepare DS for him. Added some bits and bobs of DS' year to make it all extra special. Printed a Santa stamp on an envelope with DS's name and our address. Made it all extra special. The elf will arrive next Sunday, can't wait!

Molepomandmistletoe Sun 18-Nov-12 13:22:56

Hello christmas peeps,

Sorry I've not been on, I got myself an early present of The Pacific on DVD so I've been watching that.

Sheffield has a really neat market on at the moment that has some beautiful, handmade and hand decorated glass decorations for sale. They are stunning. There's food markets all over the place, venison, beef, lamb, ostrich, buffalo, olives, cheese and all sort of stalls, plus a couple of moroccan cabins which have ovenwear, lights, candle stuff, rugs, clothes and more food. The Christmas Lights are up and willl be switched on on Sunday, the massive tree in the middle is up and decorated, the cabins have Santa in one and elves in the others, there's jewelery stalls, sweet stalls, and elves trail...AND IT'S ALL HERE UNTIL CHRISTMAS EVE!!!!

The victorian market starts on the 1st, the Coke Truck is at Meadowhall on Friday the 30th nov. I've got a couple of bits left to get, I'm doing trial runs of egg nog and mince pie recipies. My mate has started making a snowman Christmas cake for me and is currently feeding it with loads of Whiskey. With any luck, I would have finished making my coffee table too oh, and the gritters have been out! There's a good sign!

Oh, and You've Got Mail is on now, Home Alone is on later...(bounces up and down on her sofa like Tigger on speed)

Molepomandmistletoe Sun 18-Nov-12 13:23:56

Chesty Get Well Soon thanks Drink loads and get some rest.

MamaPizza Sun 18-Nov-12 17:27:04

Hello Mole <waves>

Sounds like a lovely market. I'm going to venture to the Birmingham one next month, can't wait.

Anyone done PNP yet? I'll sort DS's out later.

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Sun 18-Nov-12 17:43:10

<<shuffles in sniffing with hot wheat bag on face>>

I'm hoping to go to the Lincoln market in dec mole
Think it's maybe around same distance away.
Will be a Christmas warm up/ birthday treat.
Just need to book the park and ride.

Have watched a Christmas princess and foster today so far, lovely teary Christmas movies smile

mama amazon have sent me out deliveries twice now when stuff hasn't arrived, very impressed.

Mama, haha, I've ordered from Amazon UK to arrive here in Germany! I did look on Amazon.de but the selection is very very limited, they didn't have anything I wanted. I am picturing our packages crossing in the sky! smile

My DS will be 2.2 at Christmas.

I love that letter from Santa. Going to do that for sure! The Santa stamp sounds ace - which Santa stamp did you get?

Mole, how is The Pacific? My husband and I went on honeymoon where it's based. Should watch it.
Sheffield sounds awesome. I am in Germany and there isn't much Christmassy stuff happening yet.
I watched Home Alone a few weeks ago! grin

MamaPizza Tue 20-Nov-12 07:09:31

5 weeks grin

Spoke to Amazon Germany, if it isn't here by tomorrow they will send out replacement. Wahey!

I'll get a pic of the letter and stamp up tonight hopefully. Had a long day at work yesterday, but the rest of the day is easy, so will save it as an image and show you. It was just this here. Copied image, put it on Word document, added address and 'from santa' stamp and printed it all on A4 envelope. Looked really real smile

My Amazon stuff is here, hurrah.
Waiting on one more package from somewhere else. But have now seen a few extra little things I'd like to get DS, so maybe my shopping isn't quite done!

Thanks. Very arty! :-)

MamaPizza Wed 21-Nov-12 07:10:16

Lucky you! Mine isn't, neither is one thing I got on ebay for one of the fishtanks. Will go to sorting office today to check that they haven't forgotten it there and if it isn't then Amazon will hopefully send replacement soon.

I always say I finish, but then I find more things...

Didn't get pics up, went to bed at 8pm, needed it. But will do soon, starting an Elf blog anyway, will share it here grin

Not feeling so lucky now, part of my other order has been cancelled, and it was something I really really wanted (for DS). Annoying.

Hope your order turns up soon.

Ooh, an elf blog! smile

MamaPizza Wed 21-Nov-12 20:25:13

Oh no, can you get it somewhere else?

I got great news - my three parcels, including the one from Amazon Germany, were all at the collection office. I kicked up a fuss! Didn't have a card or anything and if I hadn't made out the trip they would have gotten lost forever. I can't believe they didn't deliver them! I mean, yes we work full-time, but it's not rocket science to put a card through the door or leave with neighbours. Instead the postie must have loaded it back on the truck, dumped them at the depot and forgotten about them. Lady at counter was apologetic, but seriously. How badly organized is the Royal Mail?

Elf will arrive this weekend. Can't wait!

I managed to find similar in JL, but having already paid for international delivery with M&S at £7, I'm now forking out another £7.50 in shipping, which is crazy for a few toddler socks ... so I added a few extra things to my basket to make the postage more worthwhile! smile Just a bit of a pain financially, and it irks my green eco hippy conscience too.

There are some good workers at RM, the postman we had before we left was amazing (when I had my newborn, he'd give me extra time to get to the front door) but the system is seriously flawed, and I know many just chuck a 'while you were out' card through your door when they don't even knock, and don't actually have the package on them! Glad you got your packages.

I ordered something from Etsy about six months ago, no show. It must be somewhere, with my name and address on - why can't they try and redeliver it! It's not something most people would want (some vintage fabric, not appealing to many tastes, I'm sure!), I can't imagine a postal worker stealing it. More likely it is languishing in a depot somewhere. Or chucked over a hedge!

Woo hoo, has your elf got a name yet?

*Toddler socks! Sounds like you can get them anywhere, but I specifically wanted ones with robots on! smile

The ones in M&S are much nicer than the JL ones though.

MamaPizza Thu 22-Nov-12 06:17:03

That's some expensive socks shock Love your thinking of chucking more into the basket to make it worthwhile grin

Our regular postman is ace, he always stops for a chat and makes sure we get everything. But those parcels were all big and came via delivery van and whoever drives it doesn't know us or doesn't seem to care.

Ah well, all good now.

Well, yes. Needs must! smile

Ah yes, the random delivery man! smile Glad you have your stuff. I am now waiting on a few more packages, then I will see what we've got and get wrapping.

MamaPizza Fri 23-Nov-12 20:44:25

My blog is online grin

Happy elfy reading

Elf will arrive on Sunday and there should be daily updates from then on.

I'd better start wrapping soon, there is so much. Debating at the moment whether to return the mobigo or not. Just tried it, and it is a bit shit. Or am I too spoiled with an ipod? Don't think DS will like it. Does anyone have it for their DCs?

Adorable. I really love the paper you used.

I don't know anything about mobigo, sorry.

MamaPizza Sat 24-Nov-12 09:02:48

Thanks. My first blog, still have to tweak it a little.

This is the background I used, just copied it into word. Easy smile

Last year I used this one

Bit annoyed about the mobigo, because this is the stuff I got from Amazon Germany. All the games are German games. I hope he will like it, but it seems so simple compared to his Ipod. I know he is spoiled...

It looks very good! smile I like your son's name. smile

Thanks for the graphic link. I may well use it!

Ach, if it makes him happy!

MamaPizza Sun 25-Nov-12 08:57:40

Thanks re my son's name smile

Our elf has arrived! Woohoo! We named him Jingle grin Watched the DVD already, DS loves him. Will update blog later. Might dare to go and visit Santa at the local garden centre. Better now than December I suppose before the queues get too long but I can't be arsed to get out of the house today

Where is the rest of the gang? Mole? Chesty? Hope all is well and you are just busy.

Oh dear, it has just been you and me for the last week! smile

I have not seen any Santa's Grottos here in Germany yet - they do have them, right???!

MamaPizza Sun 25-Nov-12 13:18:40

They are probably busy shopping, wrapping, decorating... Well, hope so.

Been to see Santa. We were clever. He didn't arrive til 11 am in his grotto, so I asked DH to stand in the line from 10.30 am while I had a nose at Christmas stuff with DS. Anyway, when I returned at 10.50 am the queue was super long! And we were first in line. Twas almost like queuing for a boxing day mega sale or a concert grin DS was all shy though, but he had a chat with Santa and thanked him for his present. Santa was actually really good, talking to him about dinosaurs (DS's favourite...) and sharing sweets. That's done now, no more queuing until next year. DS then waited until home to open the present in front of Jingle the elf and we showed him how to make the jigsaw. So sweet, he loves his elf!

MamaPizza Sun 25-Nov-12 13:19:26

Oh, and I'm sure Santa also visits Germany. Have you tried Karstadt or Kaufhof maybe? Or one of the many Christmas markets, surely they'll have a grotto somewhere.

I am hoping to get my advent box wrapped today, waiting on DS to nap, but he really isn't much of a daytime napper. But he was up a little bit earlier than usual today, so maybe!

Well done on the Santa visit!

I will check Karstadt, or the markets, just wanted to know that they did do this here! There's a swanky hotel near here, they look like they are settling something festive up in the courtyard, I am hoping maybe there'll be a grotto. I hope the Santa can speak English to DS! Much as I want him integrated, he doesn't speak as much German as he does English.

<twirls> I was going to wait until the first to namechange, but as its a month to go as of today, I thought I'd get started! smile

MamaPizza Sun 25-Nov-12 15:50:02

Love your name! I was going through the list higher up on this thread this morning, but still can't make my mind. Knowing me I won't decide until Easter hmm

Hope you find a grotto place and an English speaking Santa.

smile Thanks! I am feeling all festive. Just put The Santa Clause on TV.

Me too! I don't think I'll be able to find out in advance if the Santa speaks English. Hopefully it will be the real Santa like the signing one in Miracle on 34th! smile

Have you narrowed down your namechange choice at all?

MamaPizza Mon 26-Nov-12 20:23:42

Nope, still no name. ARGH! Those decisions!!!

Had a poopy day, all three of us poorly and DS and me still not much better. Looks like another day at home tomorrow.

Seriously, where are the others?

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClause?

Oh no. Hope you all feel better?

Maybe it's me? sad

MamaPizza Tue 27-Nov-12 07:53:14

I like the name, it is in the top 5, so I might actually go for it.

Feeling a bit better, but DS isn't great. Boo sad

I'm sure it's not you. It's just a shame, they were all here since January, hope they are just too busy.

Ooh, pick mine, pick mine! smile

Glad you are better, hope the little one is ok very very soon.

I hope they come back! <checks for bad breath and smelly pits>

MamaPizza Tue 27-Nov-12 14:39:13

Maybe it's my furry legs that they don't like? grin

Could someone please stop me getting more presents for DS? Just bought the big city wooden garage from ELC. In my defence - it was half price from £140 to £70 and I have been eyeing it up for ages. It isn't available online so called nearest shop and they had a delivery this morning. DH is picking it up after work grin It's like a dolls house but for boys - yeeehah! Now, where the fuck am I going to put it? hmm

smile Mm, cosy! smile

Haha! Does sound like a good bargain!

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Tue 27-Nov-12 22:31:50

Evening Christmas buddies grin

Working 5 days a week is interfering in my MN!

Nearly all bought and wrapped. Annual leave starts 5pm Friday and planning on finishing off, Christmas cards and tree up.

Am so ready for a break sad

MamaPizza Wed 28-Nov-12 08:36:28

Wahey Chesty! Nice to see you again. How dare work interfere with your MN life! Not long til Friday. How long are you off? For the rest of the year?

O!M!G! That resuce station is awesome! I had a bit of a play last night

Welcome back, Chesty. Don't work too hard!

Glad you like your rescue station, Mama.

I am about to print my letter from Santa, I was wondering what the best way to search for a nice background is. I like yours, just wondering if I could find something I liked more! smile

MamaPizza Wed 28-Nov-12 20:07:13

Darn! They got 25% off at ELC now, I could have had it for £53 (or thereabouts) instead if I had waited one extra day. But now it's open I can't even return it and buy a new one as nothing is wrong with it. Ah well...

I just searched for Christmas background / Santa background etc.. Took a while to find the ones I liked. Have fun sorting your letter.

I just raced on to tell you not to bother, I've found something I like! smile Thankd anyway!

Oh no, I hate it when that happens. How annoying. Worth going in and asking for a 25% refund or gift card?

MamaPizza Wed 28-Nov-12 20:46:54

Link please grin

Do you think they'd do it? Wouldn't mind having £17 back, means I can get another toy for DS grin

www.erinvaledesign.com/.a/6a010536340e31970b0162fd1fc57c970d-pi Quite plain, but I like it! Aiming to use this same one every year, I think.

Haha! Another toy! How much have you got him? It's worth a go, I reckon!

MamaPizza Thu 29-Nov-12 06:16:00

Lovely! I like it too, might use it next year.

I got far too much for him. Last year we were so broke as I was unemployed and I have gone a bit too crazy now that I'm earning again. I know it's too much, but I also know he will love it all and play with the toys.

Will give ELC a ring later and see what they say.

I'm glad you like it! I know it isn't colourful and childy, but I thought it looked rather official!

Fair enough! That's how it goes sometimes. As long as its used and appreciated.

Good luck with ELC!

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Thu 29-Nov-12 17:09:00

Am off for a week grin

Sat down funny and pulled something in my back, hope it doesn't interfere with my birthday plans!

Go for it on the present buying mama you had a rough time last year.
I love to buy presents everyone has far too much.

Molepomandmistletoe Thu 29-Nov-12 19:05:18

Hello Glitterbugs...

Sorry I've not been on, just busy with SN stuff, school stuff, college stuff, christmas stuff, birthday stuff and now I'm ill so I've overdone it again.

How are we all? Nearly ready?

DS has had his medication upped so he's under constant supervision to see his reaction to them (asd and adhd)..he SEEMS a little better but he's not eating. I have a senco meeting with him next week about his schooling, or lack of.

I'm doing loads of research for my next college project as well as homework which I've done but not handed in..ooops.

DD had her 12th birthday yesterday, only to get herself grounded for a week 3 days before for lying to me all day about doing her homework...which she wasnt..result is...she's now has loads to do in less than a week. Tough.
She got everything she wanted for her birthday though even if I did have to call the ex twice in Aus to bloody call her. He did do it in the end though, he missed it last year. I've taken her new phone off her for not doing the homework..she's not talking to me now. lol.

I've dragged myself out today and got everything else that was on the list. Came home and wrapped it all. Just need to get DD an advent calander which I'll do after swimming on Saturday.

I've been reading The Hunter Games trilogy on DD's kindle....OMG, you HAVE to read them. Brilliant, the film was good but doesn't do the books ANY justice what so ever.

College has thier tree up and it's looking fab, my mate has all of her trees up and has done for over a week now, but she's just mental...school had their trees delivered today so walking in main reception smelt AMAZING..even through the crappy cold I've got.

My local pub near college is doing a christmas dinner which myself and 3 other mates have booked for the day after we break up...19th I think.

Town has still has a market in but they've now added a CABIN! Which is basically an open PUB! That's heated! with the town christmas tree right outside it so we can drink mulled wine and spiced cider while watching people shop, the carolers singing and the lights twinkling on the tree.

To top it all off...............................................................................

I've nearly finished making my coffee table! It's looking fab, just a bit of sanding, fixing the table plates to fix it to the frame, 3 coats of oil and it's done! Should be here in time for Christmas which is what I want.

mama Go all out by all means this year to make up for the bad one last year. Just dont go overboard. You have earnt it, litterally so enjoy it.

whatwouldsantado Loving the name change..you HAVE to show us that letter. You do know that dont you?

Chesty Ey up mucker...Look after yourself with your back and hope it's not too bad. Enjoy your Birthday plans! What are you planning to do? Congratulations on the week off! Nice one!

Is anyone else freezing their socks off today? I've had two pairs of said socks on, and 2 pairs of gloves, thermals, jeans, tops and dressing gown as well as the heating and I'm still frozen.

Speak to you all soon, just off for a hot soak to try to sweat out this cold. BRB. xx

Molepomandmistletoe Thu 29-Nov-12 19:05:41

Wow, epic post....sorry about that.

Ouch, Chesty, poor you. Hope your back gets better soon. When is your birthday? Sorry, I joined this thread a few weeks ago and didn't read it from the start.

Hi, MolePom. Gosh, what a lot you have on your plate.
Sorry to hear about the DC troubles. Kids, eh! And the ex! What a plonker, honestly. His loss.
How many trees does your friend have??!
Hope the bath worked its magic and you are all better.

It's cold here, but I was wrapped up super efficiently when I went out, I was actually too hot! smile

You want to see the copy of the letter Santa wrote my DS? I am a dork, you'll all send me off to NetHuns!

I have wrapped the box for the advent gifts, just waiting on the socks in the mail. Not a huge problem if they don't get here.

My item from America arrived this morning, the one that was delayed due to Hurricane Sandy, so that is excellent, as it is one of DS's main gifts. Phew!

All my packages have arrived, apart from a) the festive socks I was planning on putting in the advent box for tomorrow and b) stuff I haven't ordered yet! smile Only planning to order some food, hence delay, like vegan marshmallows.

Can't believe December will be upon us so soon! It really feels like it has come round so fast. I wish it would slow down a bit! I love the run up so much.

MamaPizza Sat 01-Dec-12 16:22:12

EEK! It's here! December is here! And the grin smile [frgin]

Just a quick stop by as I must dash again.

Chesty, enjoy your week off!

Mole, sorry to hear about the probs. Keep smiling, almost Christmas grin

What, yay for the arrival of the packages.

Must go, but will be back soon.

Oooh, Santa smileys! smile smile smile

Festive socks arrived today, in the St.Nick of time. Hurray. Advent box mysteriously arrived at the front door. DS was excited to see the box, but wasn't overly taken with the contents once he spotted the chocolate coins! smile
He has his little festive outfit on and looks sooooo adorable.

smile smile smile

MamaPizza Sat 01-Dec-12 21:27:18

It's actually happening now! grin

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Sun 02-Dec-12 09:03:33

grinenvyangrysadhmmconfusedbiscuitshockwinkenvy

Hurrah! They're here.

23 sleeps.......

Birthday night out last night and my feet are still aching! Not too much of a hangover, so may venture to the cinema today.
whatwould birthdays not until Thursday.

mole I really enjoyed the hunger games film. May have to invest in the books, will wait and see if Santa brings me a kindle wink
How is Ds now? Eating any?

Tommorow is Christmas tree day! Need to do a big tidy/dust first.....booo!
I sooo want a beautiful tree like on the films but mine always looks bare somehow. <<whispers>> am going to try some tinsel.
Have also started on the Christmas candles. Blackberry and fig is a firm favourite so far.

When are you all putting trees up?

MamaPizza Sun 02-Dec-12 21:08:50

Ooooh, we want Christmas tree pics! Mine will be up next week, can't wait grin

Was it your birthday then? Sorry if I missed it. Happy birthday smile

I seriously need another month to prepare!

grin
Our small tree is up, but it looks so tiny, (3ft), and I think we will get a big one. It was fine when I lived on my own in my little London flat, but looks a bit titchy in a family home. I'd like a big artificial one, I just think they make them so well these days, they look fuller than the real ones. But I haven't seen any nice artificial ones here, and JL don't ship their trees over. Boo. So looking for a real one, DH likes real ones anyway. I'm also thinking of the cost of a real one bought every year over the years. But then, we are trying to live minimally, as we'd like to move a lot, so storing a big fake tree maybe isn't ideal. What to do!

Mama, you've had all year! smile
Chesty, glad you are enjoying your birthday celebrations.

ChestyNutsRoastingAnOpenFire Mon 03-Dec-12 09:52:08

No it's the 6th mama st nicholas' day?

Are we doing separate countdown threads now? grin

Off to start the de orations......

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus Mon 03-Dec-12 19:29:42

Oh yes, you are a Nikolaus birthday. Sorry, just sooo tired at the moment. Only just got home, trying to catch up and then more work to do. Boo sad

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire Mon 03-Dec-12 23:52:43

Thats not good! I have spent the evening longing on the sofa looking at all the pretty lights grin

I started a 22 sleeps thread today, you all didn't find me sad

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus Tue 04-Dec-12 06:10:20

Sorry, I found you but was just too tired to type. Need to get ready for another day at work today. Thankfully home normal time. Need it.

3 weeks today grin

Molepomandmistletoe Tue 04-Dec-12 09:17:30

Jingle Bells
Batman Smells
Robin layed an egg
The batmobile lost it's wheel
and the Joker got a way - hey!

I nearly wet myself when ds came out with this last night...I haven't heard it since I was at school.

What were yours?

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire Tue 04-Dec-12 09:28:13

Morning molepom

Eh?

LOVE the namechange, MamaPizza! wink

Sorry I missed your 22 sleeps thread, Chesty. I was probably sleeping! grin

Aw, so cute of your son, Molepom. smile

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus Tue 04-Dec-12 18:03:41

Lol, it's always "Jingle Bells, daddy smells" in this house grin

Molepomandmistletoe Wed 05-Dec-12 16:35:08

I've got some of my decorations up. I couldn't wait any longer and decided it would be my reward for spending the morning dragging them out from under the stairs.

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus Wed 05-Dec-12 20:09:46

Woohoo to Christmas decs. I so can't wait for this weekend. My classroom is looking fab now, am compensating my trashy side there. Kids love it grin

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire Wed 05-Dec-12 22:55:22

Boo hoo my 20 sleeps thread has tumbleweed running through it!

C'mon ladies, surely it's time for a daily countdown now?

<<stamps feet>>

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus Thu 27-Dec-12 08:02:41

363 sleeps grin

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

grin
We did! Hope you did too, Mama.

ChestyNut Tue 01-Jan-13 11:04:24

Happy new year ladies grin

LentilAsAnything Tue 01-Jan-13 23:28:11

HNY! WWSD here with a NC.
Are we having a thread for 2013? grin

ChestyNut Tue 01-Jan-13 23:32:20

I was debating starting one earlier but wasn't sure where you'd all gone!

LentilAsAnything Tue 01-Jan-13 23:54:38

Do it! I'm in!

LentilAsAnything Tue 01-Jan-13 23:59:34

Just found this thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/1644089-so-its-only so have joined there! Will also join yours if you do a separate one though!

On NYE I bought my tin!
(I buy a money tin every New Year to save £2 coins)
Has to be one of the tins you open with a can opener -a jar would be pilfered.
I aim to put £4 a week in.Decembers one had £188 so we each got £47 to buy a "Jar Present".
wink

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus Wed 02-Jan-13 09:31:54

Happy new year everyone!

Sorry for being quiet, had some quality family time. It doesn't happen often, so made the most of it. Plus we re-decorated our bedrooms, all looks sparkly and pretty now grin DS got some new IKEA furniture, we added on to his existing Stuva system because he had too many bloody toys for Christmas and I need to store them away

I'm staying here, who else is?

Anyone got any post Christmas bargains? I haven't really been out (I think twice in the last two weeks) and not seen anything.

70, I started the same again with the £2 coins. I have £6 in already. Unfortunately last year due to unemployment we had to raid it in summer as we desperately needed to pay bills, but even by summer it was something like £130, not bad. This year I shall keep it until December, at least I know I can.

ChestyNut Wed 02-Jan-13 10:31:55

Morning!

I like the jar idea but currently squirreling away all my extra cash for my holiday.
Can't believe it's come round so quick, only 2 pay days to go.
Am sooooo excited grin

Can we start a new countdowners thread, my phone doesn't like how long this one is hmm

Don't want to be alone over there tho.....

ISawMamaPizzaKissingSantaClaus Fri 25-Jan-13 06:56:28

Christmas tree decorations grin

Hope your all well thanks

purples Sun 31-Mar-13 15:58:15

WOW, sunshine..... I don't think I remember what that feels like....With all the recent snow, it feels more like Christmas here.....but at least the Easter eggs aren't melting in the heat....

Have a wonderful holiday smile

ChestyNut Sun 31-Mar-13 21:51:16

Thank you!

It's boiling here! Spent the day by the pool.
Was snowing when we left home hmm

Could spend a fortune on the lovely Christmas decorations they have on the parks.

No Easter eggs here, had a chocolate, nut, toffee apple instead.

<<fatty emoticon>>

purples Mon 01-Apr-13 13:33:09

It's wonderful to know someone is enjoying the sun, just remember your suncream...smile

Lovely idea buying Christmas decorations on holiday, it'll bring back wonderful memories of sunshine in the middle of winter.

I'm relatively new to MN and I've just stumbled across several wonderful threads about the lead up to Christmas.... I'm think I may join a few and try to plan a bit better for this year as I'm normally still wrapping pressies on Christmas eve!!!

Have a wonderful Holidaysmile

ChestyNut Tue 02-Apr-13 00:56:58

We usually countdown to Christmas in sleeps with threads IYSWIM?

Think we just had the one last year, hence the title. sad

The lobster look has gone now, just lightly shedding flakes all over now hmm

Where are the rest of you?

<<LAADDIEEES>>

confused

ChestyNut Sun 01-Sep-13 19:28:50

115 sleeps!

I've started shopping grin

MamaPizza Fri 20-Sep-13 19:39:58

<sneaks in>

Hellooooooooooooooo

<waits for echo>

Ooooh, Chesty is waiting in the corner. Well helloooooo!

I have been thinking about this thread on and off throughout the year, but work has taken over. I barley have time to breathe, let alone relax on the countdowners thread. But I will make time now, it's only 96 sleeps left! <hyperventilates. grin

So, what have we got already?

DSJamesHathaway Sat 21-Sep-13 08:14:51

I made my Christmas cards yesterday grin

ChestyNut Sat 21-Sep-13 10:21:11

Yay! Company!

I started shopping in August hmm
Just struggle on what to buy people.

Yankee candles have been reduced in Clinton so had to get one or two.

ds writing christmas cards is my most dreaded task, could do with a secretary!

Got some gingerbread lattes (sachet in a box) from Asda. Very festive.

What's on DS wish list this year mama?

DSJamesHathaway Sat 21-Sep-13 10:24:07

August?! That's late grin My family think I'm being good if I wait until July.

I'm thinking of wrapping the first batch of presents this morning but I need to find labels.

MamaPizza Sat 21-Sep-13 11:08:33

Woohoo! We are back in the game grin Welcome to everyone.

I haven't done shopping yet, but planning ahead big time. This weekend is clear out weekend (quick break atm obviously), emptying the spare bedroom known as 'junk room'. It will be turned into a playroom in the next two weekends to make room for the new crap toys. DS also agreed to finally sell on his six boxes full collection of Happyland, yay! Space and money! And he doesn't want his ELC play kitchen, that should also help make space for new stuff and give us some extra cash.

Thinking about what mischief our Elf Jingle will get up to this year, can't wait for him to arrive.

I'm going to start shopping soon, but will be mainly online. DSJames, that is VERY organized! Wrapping already? You deserve an award grin

Chesty, for the whole last year he has only asked for one thing. And I'm dreading this thing. Not because I don't like it (on the contrary, I love the idea), but he is too young only turned 4 last month. He wants a guitar!!! I am a musician myself and am trying to nudge him into piano / keyboard as it would be much easier for him to start with and the new playroom could accommodate one, but no it has to be a guitar. And bless him, every time we watch X-factor lo behold, most boys audition with a guitar and he desperately wants one. I just don't think his fingers can cope yet, not at that age. Can't find a teacher that would take on someone this young. Obviously he'll still get lots of other stuff like Scooby Doo things and dinosaurs, but if Santa doesn't deliver a half size guitar I'll have a sad little boy. Just don't know what to do. Ah well, at least I can count myself lucky that he hasn't asked for a drum kit wink

ChestyNut Sat 21-Sep-13 15:28:41

Today I am practicing my festive sweet making! Never done it before but am about to attempt macademia and cranberry bark.

Must test these things grin

Are you going to Elfy blog again this year? I loved the last one.

Good that DS is obviously going to be musical. Do they do anything children wise for guitars, toy one?

DS I daren't wrap as ill never remember what I've bought and rebuy it all.
Also take my birthday week off in December and wrap them then in front of Christmas with the Kranks DVD and the tree lights flickering.

What colour are you doing decoration/tree wise?

I'm usually red and gold but really fancy teal blue and silver, would go with living room but think it would be expensive to replace all the decorations at once.

DSJamesHathaway Sat 21-Sep-13 18:24:33

Feeling very smug because I have wrapped 9 presents.

Chestynut Cranberry bark sounds lovely. How do you make it and how long does it last?

MamaPizza Could you get him a smaller stringed instrument like a banjo?

I have green, white and silver decorations on my tree. Going to try to make some felt ones this year to add a bit of variety to all the baubles. Teal, blue and silver sounds lovely.

ChestyNut Sat 21-Sep-13 19:10:20

It's just melted chocolate mixed with whatever topping you want and reset
In a tray. Then you break it up and package up.

Going to do white chocolate and candy cane for family DCs at christmas.

In this house it will last 5 mins grin

DSJamesHathaway Sat 21-Sep-13 19:14:45

Do you temper the chocolate first? Sounds lovely. I'm imagining it with freeze-dried raspberries or popping candy and marshmallow.

MamaPizza Sat 21-Sep-13 19:15:54

Mmmh, macademia and cranberry sounds yummmmmm!

And 9 presents shock I have ordered the first this morning, only a Scooby DVD though.

Real half size guitars exist, made by 'proper' brands such as Yamaha and the recommended age is 4-6 years for that size. They are just a small version basically, still six strings etc. I just worry that he really wants it, then realizes that it isn't that easy and that the skin on his fingertips will hurt so much that he won't like it anymore and totally give up. Will have to go to local music shop in the next weeks and see what they think.

I'm thinking woodlands theme this year. Acorns, wooden decorations, owls, deers etc.. DH will kill me though as I spent far too much some money on the Nordic theme we had last year. I had teal, blue and silver once, looked lovely.

There will be an elf blog btw. So excited, he has been talking about Jingle throughout the year.

MamaPizza Sat 21-Sep-13 19:16:43

Oh man! Cross posting. Stop talking about chocolate, I'm hungry now but showered and in jammies and don't want to go out again. grin

ChestyNut Sat 21-Sep-13 19:18:14

Yummy! It's lovely!!

Erm not sure what tempering is ds grin
Melted it in the microwave, I'm no delia .

ChestyNut Sat 21-Sep-13 19:20:37

If I pop some in the post, may be with you for christmas mama

Oh it's so sickly but sooooo moorish

DSJamesHathaway Sat 21-Sep-13 19:22:08

Tempering makes it all shiny afterwards. Not sure how.

Elf blog sounds fun.

MamaPizza Sat 21-Sep-13 20:01:34

Just been looking through the elf blog, so many memories. If anyone is bored enough Linky

Microwave sounds much better than tempering. Even the masterchef people struggle with tempering. I can't cook either. Or bake. Or anything. the local chippy loves us

Seen this guitar with nylon strings so better for little fingers. Will definitely have to do more research now and if the music shop says to giv it a go I might actually try it. He really wants one, so there might be hope that he is going to play it properly.

ChestyNut Sun 22-Sep-13 10:51:33

Definitely no tempering then grin
Wasn't smooth as it had the macademia nuts in so looked nice.

Looking forward to this years elfy blog mama

I got some large sacks from the range yesterday. £1 each.
Had a look at the christmas decorations, have decided tree will have to stay same colours this year. Too expensive to change.

Supposed to be saving for holiday.

AngieOplasty Mon 23-Sep-13 17:36:19

It was fantabulous.

Oh my i have the RAAAGE today PMT combined with unsuccessful christmas shopping has just topped the day off!

Why can't people either say exactly what the want or have grace to smile and nod at the festive socks? angry

Anyone got a tranquilliser gun?

farrowandbawl Wed 25-Sep-13 18:47:44

Hello my lovlies - I was thinking about this thread earlier.

How are you all?

ChestyNut Wed 25-Sep-13 21:26:46

Yay!

We're just missing mrs now....shall we convene a search party?

<roots around for map and torch>

farrowandbawl Fri 27-Sep-13 10:02:04

I'e just ordered my TREE!!!

linky

I'm getting my Home Alone tree again. (Fraiser Fir).

The best bit is...I save up the penny jar all year round, cash it in and that pays for the tree so I don't even notice the money that paid for it. I've still got enough left to buy another present too.

ChestyNut Fri 27-Sep-13 10:12:33

Oh my! That's a lovely tree envy

We have a fake one.

What colour decorations are you doing?

farrowandbawl Fri 27-Sep-13 11:42:04

Clear and white again, with the odd bit of wood and red thrown in.

I spent a fortune replacing all the decorations over the past couple of years, I'm not going to change it anytime soon. The only new ones I'll be getting are 2 handblown ones that the kids can choose (they choose a decoration every year - by the time they move out they will have a nice collection of their own with the ones they have chosen)

What theme are you having this year?

ChestyNut Fri 27-Sep-13 11:55:40

Going to stick with red and gold, as you say it's so expensive to replace all at once.

Fancied silver and teal tho sad

farrowandbawl Fri 27-Sep-13 11:59:52

Silver and teal sounds really nice.

Red and gold is traditional though - always a classic christmassy theme. Maybe you could buy the odd silver bit every now and again, so that goes with the red and gold, then next year, buy more silver and a couple of teal bits to put to one side?

Johm Lewis have some lovely bits in at the moment - ranging from £1-4 each...it's worth having a look. House of Fraiser and Debenhams, Next as well.

ChestyNut Fri 27-Sep-13 12:18:01

Aaaaaargh don't encourage me because I'm this far >< from running round the range with a basket filled with new decorations grin

farrowandbawl Fri 27-Sep-13 12:59:43

OK sorry....

(Sainsburys will have some nice silver baubles in soon)

ChestyNut Fri 27-Sep-13 13:20:05

farrowandbawl Fri 27-Sep-13 13:32:49
