We were supposed to fly out to France this morning for Christmas at my FiLs house. The flight was cancelled due to the snow here. Thankfully they have given us an alternative date of Boxing Day so all is not totally lost.
So now, I have 2 days to put together Christmas in the UK .
As I sat here panicking about shopping lists etc, I thought about my poor FiL spending Christmas by himself. I know we will be there by Boxing Day afternoon (all being well with the weather) but still, it won't be the same for him or us. He is 90 years old and we wanted to make this a very special christmas for him.
It has given me a real sense of perspective, tbh. I am one of those women who rush around like a mad fool trying to make everything perfect and getting very stressed. Finally, it has dawned on me that the elaborate food, the tasteful wrapping and everything else is lovely but not essential. We shall be having Waitrose instead of Nigella this year........but so what?
So if you are sat here reading this thinking that you have a million and one things to do, and feeling put upon and stressed out......take a deep breath. It really doesn't matter as long as you are all together
