Need help - buying 'little' presents for a 10yr old boy and have NO idea what to get

My husbands best friend has a 10 year old boy and they will be celebrating Christmas day with us this year.

We have been told by his dad what he would like, so main present is all agreed (still a surprise to the boy though)

I'd like to get him a few little bits as well though. Having a 2yr old dd, I have no idea what 10 yr old boys are into so would welcome suggestions

Also what is your total budget for the little things?

I've got stig bubble bath, matchbox car, after eight mints, airfix kit, soldiers to paint and other things I can't remember right now for ds2 and he's 9. They're for his stocking.

ds2 is into sport too he's getting local footie team shirt. Already has enough footballs to start a shop he also collects dvds and has hundreds.

I'd not heard of Alex rider books, ds1 is 12 am surprised he isn't into them? Although he likes beast quest, harry potter etc... and is more into buying games.

His main present is a game for his wii - I'm not sure which one as DH is sorting that out.

He plays football and I know which team he supports but I'm really sure he is the 'sporty type'.

I know he loves spongebob, he goes to festivals with dad so is very into music.

Other than that, I'm not sure.

What's considered a cool teeshirt for a 10yr old?

That is a good idea Mrsjmmi, I know beacuse I did it last year we didn't see him, but I bought him a cup, calender and a few other bits with his team on. Was hoping to do something different this year

mrsjammi those site's have just reminded me, he really enjoyed learning about world war 2 at school this year. Wonder if I can find a book about that for him?

Thanks for thinking for me mrsjammi, I got told off earlier by DH for suggesting a chocolate santa I had seen in Lidl, clearly I need all the help I can get

A selection box is a far better idea.

Would this book go down well?

May be one there? I was browsing on there earlier for another mumsnetter and ended up finishing my Christmas shopping free delivery over £40 and 20% off.
