My DD (8) was introduced to playmobil quite "late in life" aged 6. She absolutely loves it, and has asked for a couple of bits for Christmas. DH thinks she's too old for it, so we've tried to steer her onto other stuff, like Lego. She's adamant she wants playmobil, and I have to say, she plays with it almost every day. Do you think she is too old for it? What is the general cut-off age for playmobil?

Oh my gosh I have exactly the same situation and was wondering the same as you. It is so expensive I wanted to be sure first. I shall be watching this.
I think it is ok as I remember playing with my barbies and sindy's till I was quite a bit older but then maybe I was odd.
cut off age is when they stop wanting to play with it!
If she plays with it every day then it sounds like a perfect present for her

Thanks for replying. I used to play with dolls until I was about 11, but that was in the olden days!

My DD(8) still loves her playmobil but she integrates it with other things. I wouldn't go all out and buy the hospital or anything but perhaps a few bits that could be played along with, say a dolls house or something.

My DS (almost 7) loves it and has asked for more. DD2 (11) can often be found playing with it with him - I really do not think you should put an age limit on it. It is fun and leads to all sorts of fantastically imaginative play. The downside is that it is expensive but you can often pick up bargains when certain themes are discontinued. It is also worth visiting TKMaxx as last year they had loads of the bigger items in at Christmas.
My dd1 is 8 next week and has also asked for Playmobile .Her nan has bought her the church which is great.
Ds just got his first Playmobile set for his birthday from a barking kind relative. He's three...
I think it'll be going away for a year or so. I don't think 8 would be too old at all. The pieces are so little and detailed that there's loads of play value in it and I suspect they have to be older to truly appreciate it. Older than three anyway!
Ds got the vet set and it's really great. But I say it again, he's three!

Try not to think of it in age terms. If she likes it then fine, she's not too old. I'm guilty of this with my DD's (also 8, nearly 9). One of them wants baby annabells brother and DH thinks she is too old. But she plays with her baby annabell stuff loads and I sometimes think the longer the better to be honest. We have a tendency to rush kids through childhood these days.

She's asked for the camper van and/or the vets clinic. I think I'm going to get the van, I know she'll love it! Thanks again!

op, if she plays with it so often now, it sounds as though it is a good buy.
Shona - we bought ds the noah's ark set for ds' 2nd birthday, so 3 should be ok. He loved it and still ocassionally plays with it now, at 8.
Dd(6) has the camper van and it's FAB! We had older children for tea last week and they all played with it, so no I think it sounds lovely

my ds got into playmobil aged 3 and a bit and it is his 7th birthday next week, he is getting egyptian tomb and two road construction sets. He has played with it for hours and hours and imo it is a superb toy for imaginative play. I think every year he has got some for his birthday... I love it too but it can take over your house. And it hurts when you stand on it.

The pyramid is on 3 for 2 in Boots if you want other things (such as sphinx or royal nile ship) with £10 in points if you spend £50.

Great thank you whereareyou
Shona, ds and all his 3-year-old friends love playmobil. They will probably lose some of the bits though, but that happens whatever age they are.

DS aged nearly 10 still loves all his Playmobil (as do his friends!) and DD aged 7 has asked for a Playmobil ambulance to go with her hospital this Christmas. We bought the hospital for her 7th birthday. There will be planty of years ahead when they want 'older' things - I'm glad that they are getting so much use from our sets of Playmobil. It will be a sad day when they are too old for it! (Although probably a happy day for e-bay!!)

dc still play with it regularly(11 and 8) although ds recognises he's probably too old to ask for more
I don't think 3's too young actually, whoever said it was. Give it a try. My 8 year old still loves his - and his 13 year old sister loves playing "with him" with it. She has to keep looking up at me in a "I'm only doing this because he loves me to play with him" sort of way, but I know she's enjoying it herself too!

I think at 3 you might want to take some of the really teeny tiny accessories away but for the larger stuff it would be fine. I know at 3 they won't be putting stuff in mouths etc but they won't really appreciate the fiddly bits and you could introduce them later. There is also nothing like the pain of standing on a miniature Playmobil phone in your bare feet!
