Does anyone have a non-chocolate Advent Calendar?

We don't have them, we have the advents candles, and then a card advent calendar. It has pictures behind it and maybe a passage on the door.

Never have had a chocolate one.

Isn't just us, surely???

We never had them either, but DH did. DD is now three and my mother and his mother both send her one every year, so she has both types! I wonder if I'll ever get to buy her an advent calendar and which I'll choose....? Smile

We also don't have one.

We stick with the picture ones and an advent candle too.

We've never had the chocolate ones. Dds used to feel deprived when they were kids!
I love old fashioned advent calendars, preferably with a snowy scene and glitter! The Disney type ones make me shudder. Dd recently bought a trad non chocolate one for her dd, 20 months - she doesn't want her having chocolate every day.

I dislike the chocolate advent calendars. I've bought myself a mini advent calendar card. I'll never grow out of having an advent calendar!

The pictures on the non-chocolate calendars tend to be nicer and more traditional. The character calendars with disgusting chocolate are just grim!

We have never had a chocolate calendar, our 7 year old always chooses his own picture one from a lovely stationers in town.

I hate to sound like a snob but I find those character chocolate advent calendars a bit depressing.

We don't have chocolate ones, not least because my DD hates chocolate. This year I have got DD a jewelry one and DS a minions mega blox one.

I buy myself a non-chocolate advent calendar - from my local Oxfam (which is the Oxfam reject store for the area, so v. cheap). It set me back a whole 80 new pence, and is a lovely nativity scene.

My dc would be unimpressed if I told them they weren't getting a chocolate advent calendar... even though they admit that the chocolate in the cheapo ones that are the only ones I'm prepared to buy is horrible (yes, I do think the pre-visitation Scrooge has the right idea Grin). They are complete philistines.

I have a lovely magnetic one on the fridge door that I got from JoJo when buying a new baby gift and am ridiculously excited about it. I also have a top quality Lindt chocolate one though.

The kids got money to buy their own "advent calendars". I'll ask to see what they got themselves - they are 23 and 26 so I have my suspicions...

We didn't when the children were small and when we started the 3 children and I shared the same one.

A few years on I have given in and bought them one each - solves the problem of what to have for breakfast in December!

DH said Lidl are doing a sock advent calendar. A new pair every day.

I'm actually wondering if I dreamed it now. I must ask him.

I'm holding off for as long as possible and we're reusing the playmobil one from last year (they're only 3 so have totally forgotten it and don't mind about the pre-opened packaging).

Once they are old enough to whinge about it, then I'll get them a chocolate one! I don't have any major objection to them but they don't know they exist just yet.

I do love the old fashioned house style ones. Might get myself one next year. I've seen a lot more of them around this year actually. A local shop had a whole wall of them.

My siblings and I never had chocolate advent calendars when we were kids (we ate plenty of other chocolate and sweets, and it wasn't a particularly 'healthy eating' household, but we just didn't have chocolate calendars). I don't remember resenting it at all, and I still think the picture ones look nicer.

Now I've got a two year old DS, he has the picture ones too (again, he gets a bit of chocolate in other circumstances, and will definitely have some Christmas chocolate, but I don't see the need for him to have a chocolate every day as a matter of course). At the moment he's perfectly happy with that and last year he really liked the pictures and the ritual of opening the door. We'll see what happens in a couple of years when he's at school and I'm a mean mum because 'everybody else has a chocolate one...' Grin

I have a tea one - each day I get a different herbal tea. It's a bit gimmicky but is quite nice in that it's different. We never had chocolate ones when we were small so this feels a bit special without being a Disney chocolate monstrosity.

I've made a non-chocolate, Pokemon themed advent calendar, for my DC this year. I'm very proud of myself and I hope they'll love it!

Only DH has a chocolate one here (a dark Hotel Chocolat one).

DD has Playmobil, DS has Lego Star Wars and I have the ASOS Beauty one - although there will probably be moaning tomorrow when the kids realise I was serious when I said only one calendar each.

We also have a traditional one with pictures that Mum bought us to share.

We have many advent calendars. Various Lego and playmobil ones we've built up over the years. I have a Yankee candle one and a normal picture one. My mum got DS and DD picture ones and I've got them chocolate ones. And I've got DH a Lindt one. I've sent DSS and his girlfriend chocolate ones too
