Football kit for DD - help needed please

Sadfacehappyface · 29/11/2016 21:47

My DD has started playing football at school. She has asked for a football kit and boots on her Christmas list but I have no idea what to get her! I don't want to spend too much as she doesn't support a particular team at the moment. Any advice/help greatly appreciated.

Socks and shin pads?
Does she need boots? How old is she?

Somewhere like sports soccer and you can buy cheap boots, shorts and a football top if you want. Should be able to do the whole lot relatively cheap

Sports direct are always good for football kits and boots. It's usually the cheapest too.
They have training kits if you don't want a particular team.

Can you get her your local teams strip?
My Dd also plays football and has a new strip on her christmas list. She has to wear shin pads and football boots to play in. We went a size up in the boots as they are pretty small sizing.

She is 9. She has asked for boots, does she need ones with studs? They seem to play outside in all weathers. Thank you, I will have a look at sports soccer.

Some really good kits (top, shorts, socks) on ebay for £15. They're from China or Hong Kong so order asap. They have loads of different team kits and they're very good quality. My 2DC have loads- they refuse to anything else outside of school.

That's good to know, I will go up a size in boots. I will have a look at the local teams kit, although she does like pink!

If she's playing on grass, she'll need studded boots, or there are special boots for astroturf.

Will check out ebay too thank you, this is new territory for me and I don't want to get it wrong and embarrass her in front of her team.

BTW the £15 kits mentioned above are personalised with name and number,. And Barcelona FC's current away kit is purple and pink.

If they play on grass get boots with studs or she will be forever falling over. If they play on an AstroTurf or sometimes play on a concrete surface gets 'AstroTurf boots or shoes' they basically give more grip than trainers and are a similar style to football boots.

I've been building my DD's kit up slowly as I wasn't sure if she'd stick with it! We got second hand boots with plastic studs from a friend - Sports Direct sell shin pads and also pink football socks and tops. We teamed that with navy football shorts and base layer leggings which you'll need to get the staff to point out to you - base layer leggings in the football dept come with a Y-front! But there are girls ones elsewhere in the store...

She mainly plays on grass so I will go for boots with studs to start with, thank you all so much for your help.

If she is going to get really into it, (playing for a team, at the weekend/training with them) I'd suggest a good set of thermals for you both. It is freezing standing watching them play at 9.30 on a Sunday morning. Some days I think my eyes are going to freeze its that cold and then ds is running about in his thermals and football kit, apparently unaware it is -5 degrees.
What position does dd play? If she is I need goal, a pair of goal keeper gloves and you can get padded goal keeper trousers for when you are diving for the ball.

That's good to know Longtalljosie I'll make sure I find the girls base layers! I think I'm going to go for one of the pink/purple kits from ebay and get base layers/shin pads and football boots from sports direct so that I can swap them after Christmas if they are not ok. Does that sound ok? Is there anything else she will need that I haven't thought of?

I was told plastic studs were better than metal ones but can't remember why Blush

Oh and buy big with the boots. I was told they come up small and they do. Might be worth getting those fitted?

Not looking forward to my eyes freezing! She has only been going a few weeks so I don't think she has been put in one specific position so far (although she definitely hasn't been in goal). She is small, fast and fearles! I don't know if she will get really into it which is why I don't want to buy too much kit but want to encourage her as she seems to be really enjoying it.

If you are English the England strips have just gone on sale

Just one point we had to go up more than one size for boots. I'm not sure if it was 2 or 3 sizes though. I would really check that out before buying.
