Damn it. Got my online xmas food shopping order held with a few bottles of champagne. (Because it's November ffs and they haven't even got their party food in stock yet.)
And they've written to tell me off - very nicely admittedly - but it's still a telling off.
I'm just not ready to decide how many brussel sprouts i want yet!

I used to do that with Tesco. Book the slot really early with a bunch of crap on it just to get it over the min order. Grin

What did the letter say?

What did it say?

They do have a lot of their Christmas stuff in stock by the way. I got a massive brochure with my shop yesterday... it feels too early!

How strange. Asda actually told us to do that and update the order the night before.

Ooh really? I was looking for vol au vents etc the other day and it was all coming up as out of stock. I'll try again.

It is a nice email....

"WE have noticed you have multiple bottles of champagne in your order and just want to check this is accurate and you do require these in your Christmas delivery.

If this is not accurate, please edit your order as soon as possible to ensure that we get the correct quantities from our suppliers and also make sure you receive all the items you do need for Christmas.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

I usually do a shop from my favourites to hold the slot with maybe one bottle of champers - which feels a bit less likely to fuck up their merchandising!

Maybe it's the number you have in your basket rather than not having anything else IYKWIM?

I just have a couple of bottles of Expensive stuff in and nothing else at the mo

I suspect they want you to realise that if you want to get turkey, etc, you need to order it now!

I put in my turkey, sprouts etc order in about three days after it opened for Christmas bookings and they'd already sold out of some sorts of turkey. Plus I couldn't get the time slot I wanted (crisis!).

Just go and have a look and shove some other stuff in.

You've just reminded me that I'm holding a Christmas slot with Morrisons with lots of champagne.

I have two ocado Christmas slots held with champagne and haven't had a letter yet. Both have 3 bottles of expensive stuff so maybe it's the quantity that triggers the email.

It must be a bit of a nightmare for them if everyone's doing this!

My DM (on my advice to hold her slot on Ocado) added the requisite number of bottles of champagne to her basket... Then did her shopping without removing them.

Cue an expensive shop, and more champagne than she could personally get through!

It was SUCH a shame I had to come round and help her drink it Grin

I've only got 3 bottles of Veuve in there!
They must have been left with a lot of unwanted place markers last year!
Ishouldcocoa - i did that earlier in the year. Except i took it to my mum's to make sure i saved it for xmas! So i'm banged to rights cos i have no intention of buying 2 of those bottles!

I had mine with a placeholder of champagne and altered it a couple of weeks ago.

It'll be my first Christmas Ocado order, any recommendations of what to buy?

Oops. I have 2 bottles of pink and a turkey in mine. Blush

Haha I got the same email! I do have a reminder set for next week to update the order, but I'm also not ready to think about it yet! Will have to get on with planning how much of everything we need...

I was annoyed with the hiked up delivery and minimum spend on the Christmas slots so defected to Waitrose. I shall pay for it, no doubt, as our local store is rubbish, but it felt like a minuscule small victory.

I've got £90 worth of cat food in mine on the basis thst if I forget to change it we will use it, unlike champagne which would not get drunk. I may well cancel, we get most of our Christmas dinner from Riverford, free delivery on Christmas Eve, got this booked as a general food shop plus nice nibbles etc.

I've done the same but haven't had one of those emails yet, it's only a matter of time! GrinBlush

How funny! There is 2 bottles of gin in mine (I know can you imagine what some people spend on gin that I only needed 2 bottles) - I do the same every year and I've never had an email.

I've done exactly this too! 3 bottles of champers. No email yet though.

What are people's Xmas Ocado recommendations? Am thinking of just doing loads of party food things, plus salads on Xmas eve. Had thought I'd go to M&S but may switch if ocado stuff looks good!

I had an email asking about the excessive number of turkeys in my Christmas order.

Same here- trolley filled to 90 quid or whatever the minimum order is with champagne. No email from Ocado though. Surely they must realise it's what everyone does. If you have to book your delivery slot in October, you're not going to actually know what you want until a lot nearer the time.

Report
headinhands · 23/11/2016 22:57

Wouldn't it make sense for them to actually have a kind of slot holder you can put in your basket that keeps it open, much like the tea towel we use to keep the emergency exit open in the kitchen at work?

Report
FrazzleRock · 24/11/2016 11:31

I've done the same and also received that 'telling off' email. I told them that they do not have the turkey I want in stock yet and I am not changing my order until they do.
In fact I emailed them first asking when they are getting the turkey I want in stock and they didn't respond. That is until I responded to the 'teliing off' email. I basically said "answer my enquiry first, you have no turkeys"
