Presents from "The Log"

At my Grandparents we always had a present from the log( a binbag by the time I came along) , usually after tea on Christmas Day. I would really like to bring this tradition back for my kids but would also like to know where the tradition came from. Searching just brings up the yule log, on the fire or the cake. I am NC with my Dad so can't ask him. For info my grandparents were from Newcastle/Sunderland areas, is it a regional thing?

It's a Spanish thing, isn't it?

Thanks Floggingmolly, must be where they go it from. No links to Spain but they did go to Malta every October for as long as I remember. Not sure about the pooping of presents and then the peeing too. Might not want to encourage that with my two lol
