Hexbugs - what is the best starter set for 6yr old?

Hexbugs have been recommended for my 6 yr old DS but having had a look on line I'm completely unsure which to go for? V1 or v2 and then within that there seems to be lots of different sets.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a good starter set? DS is excellent at Lego so shouldn't have an issue with construction and would probably enjoy something which has the option to build a variety of layouts (if that is possible?). Complete hex bug novice so all advice gratefully received!

We started DS's collection before the v2 ones were out so we don't have any of those.

The fun seems to be in setting up the habitat, watching the bugs is entertaining but only for so long. He's defiantly used it more as the collection of tracks has grown.

The elevation set had a good collection of track at a reasonable price, although the price seems to vary quite a bit. The hive is also good and can store all the bugs when folded up.

Tesco had a couple of sets in the toy sale last year, home bargins also have sets from time to time.
