Christmas

What are you ordering from Booths this year?

I'm doing my order this weekend but want to order everything. I always get a big gammon as it's the nicest gammon I've ever tasted. And I get a bit carried away with the puddings.

Last year they did a fish pie mix in a kilner jar but that's not in the book this year. And I'm a bit meh about getting a cooked fish pie as they're not all that different really.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what other Christmas food people buy from Booths. Temped by the wild boar haunch for Christmas dinner but not sure if the kids will be impressed.

Can you wait and buy the gammon in store as they sell the big ones on special leading upto Xmas.

Ooh, exciting! I think I might go for the cockerel cushion for Christmas lunch - it'll just be roast for one (just the four of us and the others are all veggie!). Def several puddings and canapés. They actually don't have any v inspiring veggie options.

We're also having a houseparty for new year, so will get some yummy things in for that. Must go back and pour over my catalogue.

Love the mulled wine in Booths!
Which one's your local? Mine is Kendal. It's only small but good for odd bits and bobs

Cheese, beer, lots of different cakey-type things and a variety of buffet food for us. We are collecting it on 23rd as the order had stuff in that couldn't be delivered.

We've decided against a 'proper' Christmas dinner this year and are just having buffet food all day! I can't wait 😀

We are having a roast on Boxing Day instead, but lamb rather than turkey.

I'm not near a Booths so am having a delivery. I completed my order yesterday and had to remove a few things that were collection only. I wish it said that in the book.

I've cheated and gone for the prepared vegetable box. I fancy the idea of just putting lots of different dishes in the oven and not having to prep anything. And at £20 I thought that was quite good value.

We are in prime Booths' country; though sadly don't actually have one in our town. Maybe one day! It may be a good job we don't, however, as if I could just pop in whenever I fancied I'd probably be bankrupt! 😂

Do they deliver to the South?

Their garnishes are expensive but look absolutely wonderful.

Yes, they do Squirm. They do national delivery at Christmas.

Turkey crown and pork pie for us this year. Scaled back a bit from previous years as I always end up with ridiculous amounts of food. Unbeatable pork pies though.

I love booths and love holidays in the Lakes so I can shop at Booths. DS2 took the Booths book to bed for a few nights, came down each morning with requests for the order. Unfortunately all the things he wanted are collection only and the nearest store is hours and hours away from here.

They're opening a new one in our town next year, which I know will be dangerous to my bank balance.

Good Lord! I've never heard of Booths before. I don't like you OP AngryGrin. Everything looks delicious.

We had cockerel/capon a couple of years ago. It was delicious. I'm very tempted by the cornfed Goosnargh chickens though. And a raw gammon. Has anyone tried either of those?

This is a revelation to me! Anyone had booths Christmas dinner and know it compares to m&s?

Booths beats M&S. Hands down, every time.

On a seperate note, because I am among Booths Country friends did anyone else see the Waitrose advert and think "why is that family in clearly in the North (scenery looked Scottish/lakes to me) when they don't have a shop further north than Manchester?"

Because they want to be Booths, that's why.

OSET, we are thereabouts equidistant between Burscough and Tarleton. There was talk of us actually getting one (10 mins' walk from our house!) but it's not going to happen now. Boo!

Grew up on Goosnargh Chickens... next village along ;)

I'm a pescatarian now... but Roast Goosnargh chicken was the hardest thing to give up. My mum swears by their gammon but I've never liked pork so can't offer a personal recommendation!

Ooh really, four? Hmmmm. If it was down to me I would get a cockerel. But DS has requested turkey. Which is all well and good except there are only three of us and I really don't like turkey leftovers. So DP and I have decided to get a big, good quality chicken and say nothing to DS Grin. In the interest of post Christmas leftover deliciousness!

I got the unsmoked gammon last year and it was delicious. We sliced it into steaks and found it really good value. YY to the pork pies. I've ordered both again this year.

There's a competition on their Facebook page to win a Booths Christmas. You have to count how many times the word Northern appears in the book. I have a spreadsheet to count them but I've not given my answer yet. Grin

To the pp mentioning the Waitrose ad, they are in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

I didn't know Booths delivered south at Christmas! Thank you!

Another question, if you don't mind! Are the little cakey bites/mince pies etc as good as they look? Thank you!

ChippyDucks · 18/11/2016 06:50

Yep, four they've been branching out in recent years. Not only Edinburgh and Glasgow, but Stirling too. Nice for a change of products!

I stand corrected re: Waitrose locations. My first thought reading that was "Huh, why have the skipped over North England?" and then I remembered. We have Booths, they know they wouldn't be needed Grin

We had the mini stollen bites last year, they were excellent. I know Lidl is normally considered gold standard but I'm afraid I haven't tried them to compare.

I've had their Christmas cake slices too and a few other bits over the years. All good. The only time I don't like their cake is when I step on the scales Grin

Thank you four! I'm sold on Booths and will be ordering online this weekend.
