Hi I'm so stuck what to get my soon to be four year old. She has happyland and an asda dolls house which she uses for her Disney princess' but I feel like she would like something a bit more" grown up". The options seem to be playmobil or Sylvanian families, my daughter is very girlie if that helps.. Never had either as a child so I'm hoping for some advice.
Thanks in advance x

My sister and I spent hours and hours with our sylvanians when we were little, it's all we asked for every birthday and Christmas till about the age of 10, I still have them all in a chest incase I ever have a DD Smile

I'll be the voice for playmobil. Both DS and DD have loved it and it still gets played with by eight year old boys! It's great because you can expand input so many different worlds beyond just "home"

playmobil as more sets for it and also modern real life themes as opposed to the Sylvanian everything is perfect country living style. I love Sylvanians btw. As a choice I say playmobil unless you can do a bit of both.

Playmobil! More versatile, and those lovely smiling little people. What's not to love? Smile

I might be biased though, as my ds loved Playmobil and only stopped playing with it completely when he got to about 14!

I'm 28 now and still remember my Playmobil!

Playmobil - it's more versatile. Sylvanian families is really pretty/girly, but fiddlier to play with. Saying that, my DD is 13 and still plays with both (with the few friends left who aren't glued to their phones).

We bought Sylvanians for our 3yo dd last Christmas and she has played with them in the Asda doll's house all year. This Christmas we are getting her more Sylvanians!

We have both but the playmobil gets a lot more play as the sylvanian are a bit too fiddly for my dds (age 5 and 3).

We have both. For a 4 year old, playmobil is definitely better. Mine still preferred the 123 playmobil until they were about 7 as it is less fiddly.

I had sylvanians from when I was 3 but I was so careful. My boys are just too rough for it.
So I would say playmobil unless they can cope with delicate things.

Another vote for Playmobil. Much loved by dd6. I would love to buy sylvanian families though as I wanted it as a child but never gotSad

Dd has a unicorn house and a farm and she does loads of imaginative play with them- I often find animals roaming in the castle etc. Getting more this year- the water park sets look good.

Both are amazing toys but require amazing patience and hand eye co-ordination. They can be very, very frustrating!
I'd see if your DD can play with either set before buying any. Both are expensive brands to get into.
Have you heard of the Lottie doll? She's pretty cool.

My DD was only just 3 when she inherited my old SF stuff. She was certainly interested from that young age but she'd get frustrated with the teeny tiny bits, so until they're 6 you need to be careful which bits you buy.

We have Playmobil in the house but DD never shows any interest in it.

Definitely playmobil, dd now 9 plays with both a lot now but we did it the wrong way around and started with Sylvanians at about 4 years. Didn't discover Playmobil until 7 years old, whereas with hindsight she would have had much more play value the other way as Sylvanians were too fiddly at that age. ( like yourself moved on from Happyland).
Favourites for Playmobil are large pony farm and the Hotel. If you do go down the Sylvanians route Car and caravan are excellent as it is a complete set whereas the houses need lots of furniture etc.
Also recommend Playmobil advent calendars such as the pony one which then compliments the sets.
