Cooking set for 9 y/o?

I'm putting together a baking/cooking hamper for DSD as part of her presents.

The plan is to buy funky coloured bits and bobs- utensils, nice bowls, chocolate moulds etc and a few cookbooks.

So far I have:

Nadiya's kids cookbook
Heart shaped moulds
Assortment of cutters


What would be good for a 9 year old? She enjoys helping to cook but hasn't cooked anything unattended. Trying to boost her independence and get some key skills. also I like cake

whisk and spoons, decent spatula. Cake cases in funky colours, some packet mixes she can do herself - ie add egg or oil etc Cookie ones are quite good as don't need much. Some disposable icing bags and a nozzle or two

magnetic measuring spoons - so they snap together into a little stack for storage, and have one round and one oval end for ease of use in little pots etc. - and they are cheerful and funky...

I got a traditional Mason Cash bowl decorated with gingerbread men and women, a cutter and rolling pin in a gift box for DD about 5 years ago from Amazon. I'll check if they still do them.

Ours is the traditional beige colour but I'm sure it was much cheaper than THIS!

Frilly jam pot lid covers with matching labels from Poundland went down very well, too. You could make Nigella's mincemeat (no suet, just butter, apples and cider with dried fruit) about now and give it as pre-C* gifts.

is this for storage at your house or elsewhere?
if it is elsewhere is there space in the kitchen to store extra baking stuff?

At our house. We have a spare cupboard in the kitchen so it can just be her stuff and not mixed in with what everyone else uses.

Can I just say that my late grand parents made one of these for me as a child and it was by the far the best present I have ever received! They put in a big brown box which my nan covered in paper and inside was loads of little presents. Bowl, tins, cutters, scales and spoons and an apron and a stork cookbook -which I still have - are what I remember. Probably not chef quality but brilliant.

TK Maxx is great for this sort of thing - great bargains on biscuit cutters, aprons, fancy paper cake cases etc. Also vastly reduced cookery books!

I did this for my dd last year and she loved it (she was 11), some things she really liked and gets used all the time was a double timer, a mat that you can roll up and has measurements round that you can use for rolling out pastry, also a pair of silicone oven gloves which are really good and even I use, this year I am going to get her a Joseph and Joseph rolling pin (recently moved and no longer have one) and maybe a blow torch as she is very sensible and wants to try some more advanced desserts. She cooks a lot and has got a lot of use out of most of the thinks I bought
