Well it seems like tubs of roses are now rubbish what boxes of chocolates should I be getting in for the big day, or indeed sampling before!

M&S The Big Selection. Not in a tin or tub, just a box with the sweets in a cellophane bag inside but that's good as less rubbish to dispose of. The assortment is good, all wrapped in different colours , so look pretty in a bowl and they taste so much better than Roses or Quality Street. A fiver for 800g. My DH said they were worth it as all got eaten.

Hotel Chocolat, one of the huge selection boxes if you want to treat yourself... I'd horde them though and not share Grin

Sainsbury's Chocolate Treats (800g tub, £4) are good too.

Not big boxes, but definitely tasty are Charbonnel & Walker salted caramel truffles, or their cocoa & salt coated almonds. M&S box of Swiss chocs is also v good

Lindt will feature strongly this year for us, roses, heroes, quality street, celebrations will not get a look in.

Might try some M&S or Sainsburys choc. Tried M&S the big one last year and not overly impressed, but I prefer choc from fridge and they were room temp so might give them another try.

Anything from Lindt or Hotel Chocolat. Worth paying the extra, even if it means having less - Cadbury's and similar stuff tastes vile to me.

Prestat pralines. We always used to get heroes or celebrations but they're not satisfying in the slightest, Prestat are expensive but I will eat one as opposed to a handful as they're so rich and absolutely delicious.

Last year I bought a box of M&S Swiss Chocolates (when they were half price) they were very nice Xmas Grin

We'll buy the Roses and Heroes because the DC like them but I'll take out the Chocolate Eclairs before DD loses half her brace on them.

I bought a huge chamagne glass (bargain from HomeBargains) and filled with gold wrapped sweets- Ferroro Rocher, Werthers, gold wrapped coins, Lindt, M&S truffles.

I love the Monty Bojangles choccy scoffy truffles. They are lovely and only about £3 for a small box. They aren't really an alternative to Roses/Quality Street though.

Chococo from Dorset. No mass production, big box of amazing chocolates. Just lovely, only need a couple at a time.

Montezumas - the absolute business! They always have a great Christmas range and their stollen log is wonderful beyond words .

Hotel chocolat. The dark sleekster is also pretty darn fabulous (and one always turns up here at Christmas ..

Thorntons moments are nice. I love Lindt and hotel chocolat but not sure I want to share them with unappreciative kids. Or anyone else for that matter

If you want big tubs for scoffing, Morrisons does a satisfyingly large tub - might be 1kg?

If you want quality then Leonidas are delicious. Hotel Chocolat also very good.

If you want something mid range I agree with the poster who said Monty bojangles are surprisingly good.
