I ADORE Christmas pud but the kids and DH can't stand it. What alternatives do you do? I need ideas!

just get a small one for yourself and make something for the family like a trifle or a apple crumble

I've made this for the last few years. DH has even abandoned Christmas pudding for a slice Xmas Grin

This year I'm really excited as I've found that a local gelato shop sell take-away tubs of their most popular flavours and I've ordered a litre of Ferrero Rocher flavour. The DC may get a small bowlful to share

Christmas pudding icecream?

OR

Bombe Alaska (possibly made with Christmas pudding icecream) for the whole setting the thing on fire bit.

Woollybacks Grin

A bomba alaska sounds divine. I might have that and Christmas pud.

We had churros with chocolate sauce last year, randomly. It was lovely.

We always have Christmas pudding ice cream from an old Australian women's weekly recipe.

A melting middle chocolate pudding. You could put sparklers in it to get the wow moment when you bring it into the room.

Pannetone icecream pud is delicious and impressive. Jamie Oliver recipe if I recall.

Last year I found some nice alternatives more like chocolate puddings but in the shape of a Christmas pudding. Without all the grim dried fruit etc. Went down very well with cream.

Trifle - it always used to be the law in my house (as a child). I love it still but my children don't really know what it is!

Yule Log - there's a great (and pretty foolproof) recipe in Nigella's Christmas book. Can be made a few days in advance, which is handy. We usually have a yule log and a shop bought christmas pudding.

We do Yule Log, some kind of massive gateau, cheesecake and a small Christmas pud. We do have stupid numbers of guests though, so a wide range of food is expected (but never contributed towards!!!)

I make Nigellas Irish Cream tiramisu:
www.nigella.com/recipes/irish-cream-tiramisu

Super easy, super tasty, half a recipe fits perfectly into a 2lb loaf tin, and is more than plenty for us 6

Chocolate roulade or semi freddo, you can make and freeze both way ahead which saves a job!

Some gorgeous ideas on here though, I might have to widen my options this year!

Chocolate Yule Log. OBVIOUSLY. There is nothing else.

(I can't believe I'm posting on a Christmas thread in September, but I feel that strongly about Yule log!)

I only do Christmas Pudding if we have guests because it doesn't get eaten if its just us. (Though I have this years pudding already fermenting, I made two last year)

We have trifle on Christmas Eve , ice cream for the DC and apple pie for anyone who doesn't like either.

I made a syrup steamed pudding one year, it cooked while we had dinner, we don't eat the pudding straight away.

We have a pudding which is essentially very rich chocolate biscuits sandwiched with a chocolate, coffee and brandy cream. It's been a family tradition since before I was born.

The last few years I've also made a Mary Berry recipe which is basically a bakewell tart but with mincemeat instead of jam.

I'm planning to make Christmassy ice cream sundaes with pieces of mince pie, maybe some sort of spiced orange syrup and topped of with thick cream and some pieces of chocolate orange.

Yule log is usually the way to go, but if you're a bit bored of it and still fancy chocolate, I think this recipe for Terry's chocolate orange cake looks kind of amazing, and is still a valid Christmas idea because it's chocolate orange!
