Christmas

I'm just going to say it.

I'm ready for Christmas now.

That glint of the winter sun early in a morning. You can see your breath but the sunshine makes everything sparkle.

The feeling in the air as shoppers wander home, it's already dark and everywhere glows with lights and candles.

The sound of schoolchildren singing carols at our local church.

The look on faces when they open gifts, cooking as a family. The drive between houses to see other family. Hot chocolate, warm slippers, tinsel.

My first Christmas as a mother. Waking up with my daughter every day.

Just me? It's probably just me.

Yes! Totally agree!

Although I don't want the displays in the shops yet. Cos they actually reach saturation point by mid November and I start to wish Christmas would bugger off!

Posted too soon!

I remember my Dd's first. It was a magical day... For me. She was 6 months old and didn't have a clue what was going on!

This year she will be 4.5 and ds will be 2.3 and I am stupidly excited. Plus STBXH won't be around to spoil it with his sulky man moods!!

I do love the season as well, not just the festivities. I love wrapping up in scarves and jumpers and boots. Feeling my face all cold while rest of me is warm.
And drinking flavoured coffees (only time of year I ever have them!)

Love Christmas but want Autumn properly first :)

I'm not a summer person. I agree we need a lovely autumn first, I almost forgot about autumn!

DD will be 10 months at Christmas.

MintyGlint, I'll have what you had last evening :) The cold, the rain, the mud, the bickering over family Xmas arrangements.

Yes but have you done any Christmas shopping yet?
I love the summer, I'm sad it's over but knowing that the Christmas plans will soon be starting makes me happy again! I'm off to the Christmas thread now ........

There is a Christmas board you know?
But seeing as you have mentioned it, do you know what I hate?
The dreaminess.
You have just done exactly what bugs me about Christmas.
The lights!
The laughter!
The happy, happy children's faces...
Well, I have children. They love Christmas, and are good kids. But as a parent am I not deluded enough to think that Christmas will look like a John Lewis ad.
It is fun and pretty and I like it. But since I decided to pare it all back ( no 'big shop' for example) and relax and have no pre-conceived notions about it, it is so much better.
Christmas is hard work. People often say " Oh, I love wrapping on Christmas Eve, a glass of wine and Carols from Kings".
But wrapping for most of us involves a lot of time, kneeling on the floor, wishing it was done already! I now wrap as I buy.
I sound very bah humbug, I don't mean to. I just wonder if I asked you after Christmas if it really was as wonderful as you have it imagined out to be?
That also sounds like I hope it isn't but I don't mean that, do you know what I mean? Too much pressure for it to be perfect-it won't be, nothing ever is!

Cold, miserable rain and wind. Crowded ships with people buying tat. Fighting over Christmas holidays at work. Arguments and tantrums over secret santa. Icy pavements. Mud.

September onwards is my favourite time of year. Love when it starts getting darker in the afternoons. Everything changes colour, they're my favourite colours. I love jumpers, hats and boots and wrapping up when it's sunny but so cold, there's frost everywhere and if you take a deep breath it almost hurts!

The festivities are the best. I love Halloween, we don't even go trick or treating that much but I absolutely love doing pumpkins (I'm a bit good at it if I do say so!) and Bonfire Night, we always see a huge display. Then from about November 30th, when our town has its lights switch on, Christmas has begun for us.

I try to fill it with magic and joy because I was a lonely only child who was left to my own devices. I hated Christmas because I never got what I wanted from Santa, i didn't have much faith in him and my birthday is also at Christmas time so I never got a special birthday, it was just another day.

I get excited just thinking about it Grin

That's January though, first we've got to get through the rain, wind and gloom of November

I'm already making Xmas gifts and this year we are using my handmade reusable xmas wrap. I've been sewing fabric bags and hemming larger pieces of xmas fabric to wrap gifts and hopefully reduce the waste we produce.

I know this is a bit out there and so many love the bit of ripping paper off but I'm going for it Grin

Oh an fabric bags/fabric wrap is soo much easier to handle than paper. I've stuck poppers and velcro dots in strategic places to hold it all together.

To be honest I'm always ready for Christmas. I didn't really get to enjoy last year due to being massively pregnant so I'm extra looking forward to this year.

I could do without the overly complicated externded family arrangements that seem to get talked about earlier and earlier every year.

Of course people still use tinsel! It's the very essence of Christmas! (silver only though)

Are you wishing away September? I love September, it is crisp but still has good daylight.

we have a couple of birthdays before then i will start putting bits away for gifts. I already have one gift. ( that was easier to keep than return)

This is an awful thread! No, I don't feel Christmassy already, I think it's still Late Summer, isn't it?

Don't like cold, don't like Christmas (am not the homely making gifts type) and then have the dreaded Jan-March greyness to get through. No intention of letting summer/autumn go so lightly.
