Gifts for 1-2 year old

So DS will be almost 11 months at Christmas with birthday start of Feb so his gift opportunities are all clustered together. I was therefore planning to give him gifts for Christmas and his birthday that will take him right through till Christmas 2017.

He won't notice or care if some are too old for him and I stash them away until the summer for example.

So what are the toys that 1-2 year olds get the most use out of?

TIA :)

Anything they can hold onto while walking around is great. So one of those wooden brick trolleys, or the VTech one with the flashing lights and buttons, or a doll's pushchair (the latter is not stable enough to hold a pre-walker).

Ride on toys (something he can use outside) and if you have a garden, sand/water table kind of thing. Things like a skittles set.

Height adjustable easel if you have the space for it.

Bath toys.

Brio! He's a little young but certainly they can start to push the trains along at this age and it gives people easy things to add onto.

I really liked the ELC Happy Town but I suspect you can only get that online now. Fisher Price Little People or Playmobil 123 is similar.

Hey, my two year old boy has a train table with lots of trains which he loves and plays with daily. He also has a lovely wooden garage (gltc) which he adores. He also loves the pushchair. This sounds completely indulgent! but he is the third baby so this stuff is just around! Other things he plays with ( but less so) is his sisters toy kitchen and shop, but maybe for a bit older when pretend play really starts!

Oh and a tea set is also fun, because they can use them in the bath as well as for normal play.

Watching this thread :) thinking of getting DS one of those bikes with a parent handle thingy. Ideally want to get him a ridiculously amazing wooden climbing frame, but they're pricey so probably won't!

DS currently 15 months loves:
Brio
Hotwheels
Books
Hey Duggee!
Bath toys
Ball pit
Pop up tunnel
Teepee
Ride on toys

I really want to get him into arts & crafts but he's not having it!

Oh yes and a tea set is a good idea, DS has just started sharing his bottles and dummies with his bears 😍😍

At that sort of age, DS1 was rarely seen without part of his cleaning set (usually his broom). He also got into the lift out puzzles and the two-piece jigsaws. I think we also introduced Playdoh at around 18months.

Thanks everyone, great ideas :) Loved my wooden trolley with blocks when I was little. My brothers loved their Brio too and it will be good to have wooden toys rather than noisy plastic stuff Grin

DS has a January birthday and I did the same for his first birthday and Christmas and bought ahead for the year.

The best buys were:
ELC wooden kitchen walker
Uncle Goose wooden alphabet blocks
Plum wooden sand and water table (the type where the water table slides underneath for storage)
Ride on tractor

Ride on tractor, micro scooter with seat (these would be out top purchases), wooden farm with Schleich animals and dinosaurs, he doesn't really use his brio set that much but he is a real outdoor boy, smart mags vehicles set, 123 tractors, kinetic sand and stickers

My DS will be 1 mid Jan and I'm doing similar! Think we are going for a Cousy coupe for Christmas (filling the box with balloons and tissue paper rand Pom poms which he will probably appreciate a lot more!) and a wooden play kitchen for birthday. GP's are getting a scuttle bug, okay food & shopping trolley and a few smaller bits like bath toys and books!

DS2 has loved the wooden kitchen since around your LO's age, he loves opening and closing the doors and posting things through the hole that he takes the washing up bowl out from. As a bonus my DS1 still plays with it at 5 and showing no signs of losing interest. Also books like Usborne's Noisy Zoo type thing, with all the animal noises, and various touchy feely books.

We just got the Ikea kitchen for my 3 year old but my 11 month old loves it. Taking things out and closing doors. Reckon it's a toy they'd use for years too. Would never have though of it for a child so young!
