Any ideas? I don't want to spend a fortune that won't get played with so what are the best toys you have bought for your 9 month olds?

DS was 8 months old at Xmas and i got him a big pile of toy plastic food and kitchen stuff. Lots of different shapes to explore, good as bath toys, and good for a long time as they get into role play. Also v cheap cos we bought them used on ebay.

Our 11 month old has loved his brother's Little Tykes Cosy Coupe for a couple of months now. They come down to about £30 at times, and my almost foyer year old still loves it.

Bath toys

Stacking cups

Push along block cart - stack blocks and knock over for now, pushing along when learning to walk.

You can get Fisher Price activity tables that they stand at and press things etc. Some can be used with legs off when they aren't yet standing.

Shape sorter

Lift the flap type books or "That's not my" books

You can get toys you sit in front of and pop a ball in and it comes out lower down. Mine loved those.

DC1 had just turned 1 at christmas - she got a leapfrog scout, a fisher price tea pot and cups, a click clack track, a scuttlebug, doll, dolls pram, bath toys a ball, a little tykes slide/climbing frame thing, and books. At almost 3 these are still played with on an almost daily basis.

Dc2 has just turned 1 he loves all the above as well as cars, the ELC noisy drum, his push along trike [which an adult can push] the water tray, mini trampoline, shopping trolley, bubble machine.

When we bought items we looked at what they would still be playing with in 6 months. Looking back at photos/remembering they would definitely have played with all of the above at 9 months but they came into their own as they got older.

Thank you. There are some good ideas here and I'll check a few of them out. I looked up scuttlebug and have found something called a scramble bug that I like the look of.
