Ahh banta you've reminded me of a Christmas long ago when my DF was still alive - we got a version of that and it was hysterical :)

Dd (3 and a half) really likes a sparkly stick on mosaic kit thing (think it's called "princess mosaics"? It's in her room so I can't check now - it definitely has the word "princess" in the title). You stick little shiny sticker squares onto card pictures of fairies, owls and similar, following a numbered code. Mosaics by numbers, sort of thing. I've never known her focus on any one thing for so long!
She also, more predictably, loved the My Little Ponies (small and large), the MLP Princess Twilight Sparkle's Rainbow Castle (though it's very flimsy and falls apart at the lightest touch), and her MLP DVD. Can you see a theme?

My daughter (5) hasn't stopped playing with a Barbie wardrobe with accessories that she can carry around. Biggest hit by a mile. My son is over the moon with his sink plunger that Santa got him, which obviously I'm not suggesting people buy but goes to show that the peculiar, random things that children ask for may actually be worth buying-because I did think Santa may have taken leave of his senses! Thanks for the thread! Will watch eagerly for next year...

DS1 (11) loved his Lego Millenium Falcon, and a poo cushion. One very expensive and one very cheap! Xmas Grin

DS2 (8) loved his Axehead figure from Pacific Rim Hmm. I carefully selected many presents but the one he loves is the one DH bought on a whim, typical! Also very happy with his Kylo Ren lightsaber.

3yr old - Fischer Price Vintage cash register

5yr old - Imaginext Alpha Explorer and Alien Ion Ship - even I've been fiddling with these all day Grin

5yr old - large motorized CAT digger

Expensive Magnatile set we got for both. These are, IMO, not nearly as sturdy or strongly magnetized as the wonderful Magformers set my son got for his birthday. They are not compatible either. big disappointment. Bought them months ago otherwise I would exchange.

oh, one other hit that didn't get a second glance on the day but has proven its interest since is the
male Niki Wonderland Bath doll I got my youngest. Both my boys (3 and 5) have had a hoot with him at bath time. I bought him 2 little clothes accessories as well - goggles/shower cap and a bath robe. He's quite delightful if I do say so myself Smile

Teenage boy present success!!!!!

I took advise from the shop assistant and bought them ear buds which had zips on the wires which stop them from tangling. A choice of different sizes of foam circles (not sure what they are called) to go on the ear bugs meant a perfect fit too. I am one cool aunt Xmas Smile

Well my 8 year old daughter was most thrilled on opening with a donut pan Xmas Confused and some cuddly peas from the Disney store. Since then she has mostly played with the peas, a design a friend doll and the rapidough game. Thankfully we didn't seem to have any misses.

DS 7yo Hits:

Decorative toy lobster. £1 in a bargain bin, DS was instantly inseparable from "Clatterclaw" as he is now named. Kids are weird.

Noise making device. Present opening ground to a halt for quite a while.

Lego Friends set. Once I talked him past the "girly" packaging it paid off - accessories appeal as much to boys as girls and expand the play value of entire Lego collection. We spent Christmas morning building it together in front of the fire while Dad slept off his night shift and thus Dad only missed two presents being opened.

Misses:

None really, DGPs got him Operation, we have Star Wars operation already. DS recovered well but DGPs sussed and offered to exchange it. This year DGPs refused hints and tips in advance, mostly they hit the spot.

the big hits:

Ticket to Ride board game
Pie-face
Disney infinity for ps4
superhero action figures

no misses as that is pretty much all they got. the things that so far haven't been used as much is the books and lego but they are things the kids already adore so will have lots of use in time.

the new baby brother also seems to have gone down well though i wouldn't recommend anyone getting another for next year Wink
