I advise you not to bother.

Mine has been up for a week. We sawed the bottom off and it's in a stand with water but it is already brown and crispy and dropping needles all over the bloody place. It looks dreadful.

It's not near a rad and our house is only heated a couple of hours a day as we're both out at work.

Theren is no way it's going to last until Christmas Day. I'd be surprised if it lasts until this time next week. Some of the lower branches are bare.

Pissed off.

They've always been fine when we've had one Confused complain and try and get another?

Complain and get another.

I think that's the risk with real trees, we had.similar one year when I was a kid. Tree was practically bare by Christmas day!

I am going to take some photos in with the receipt and ask for a a refund. I don't know if I want a replacement - this one was dropping within a few days. They are supposed to be non drop!

Mine has been up for a week and fresh as a daisy, nothing has fallen off, i didn't water it and my heating is on about ten hours a day.
Sounds like you got a duffer

I noticed supermarkets doing potted trees this year if you are going to replace.

Mine lasted 3 weeks beside a radiator last year - only a bit of needle dropping.

Mind you, I then sat in front of the TV with the secateurs and trimmed off all the small branches to use as kindling - they were bone dry and I didn't need firelighters for a while.

I reckon you got a dud too, complain!

I have emailed their customer services so will see what they say. I'm not going to put it in my car to return it in this conditions.. I'd be picking the needles out for the carpet for ever!

That's unfortunately, sorry!

My experience with IKEA trees has never been like that, they've always lasted well.

If you got it from Manchester, there's none left for a replacement. There was 5 left when I left before 8pm tonight.

Sounds like a dud to me too. The last 2 years we've had an ikea tree and they are by far the longest lasting trees we've had. I guess it's a chance you take with real trees. Hope you get your money back tho as its not fit for purpose if it dies before Christmas!

We've had ours 10 days and not had a problem so far and ds has been pulling stuff off and putting it back on every day. It's the risk you take with a real tree though imo... you can't control nature...

We had an ikea tree a couple of years ago that we paid a pound for (just before christmas, they'd obviously overstocked because they were selling them off for a pound each in the charity box) - we potted it and used it as an outdoor tree, as a last minute extra...

It lasted over a year - grew some more roots even. It was only when we needed to take it out of the pot to repot it in something bigger than it didn't really recover. But it did amazingly well until that point.

You might have just hit a duff batch.

We had our tree on Nov 28th and it still looks amazing now!

Pinklady Your tree is stunning! ✨

Definitely push for a refund. That's not right at all. You'd expect a bit of droop by Boxing Day maybe but one that's in a cool place with water should last.

... and demand another money-off voucher as a goodwill gesture!

(Ours is up this week and looking good. 4th year in a row Wink)

I emailed them and they have sold out. They offered me a fiver back and said I could keep the £20 voucher which is brilliant.

Glad they were so good about it. If you had needed to take it in the car to the tip, I've always put mine inside an old duvet. Keeps all the needles inside, then just give it a good shake at the tip.

I have the same problem - they wanted to take it back but with no netting I wouldn't have space in the car (certainly not with the kids) I can find my receipt and they can't find a record of the transaction - we're still discussing it.

I don't actually want to take it down because of the faff but I suspect it'll be bare by Christmas :(

Report
Palomb · 12/12/2015 16:43

Did you get yours from wednesbury Ninja? I'm really pissed off because mines going to come down otherwise I'll have a decorated stick in my living room on Christmas morning. It's looks horrific and everytime anyone so much as breaths near it it sheds even more needles.

Mine has been up since the 5th and isn't looking totally awful but is definitely the worst tree I've ever had, it's losing a lot of needles. I take mine down on Boxing Day anyway so hope it'll be ok til then . Interesting to hear others are fine!

We always had nice trees from Ikea before, but this year's tree was awful. It looked lovely, but the needles started dropping badly within a week. if you ran a finger along a branch, all the needles fell. We couldn't even decorate it.

Ikea said to bring a photo, proof of purchase, and the giftcard, and they will refund. We had to buy a new tree elsewhere.

Mine hasn't dropped at all. They must have some good ones and some droppers.

I tink they must have had a bad batch. They were aware there was an issue when I called.

I'll probably look at their trees again next year (very carefully!), as I hope it is just a one off.
