Do I let the children help me stick on the elf door or do it in secret?

Here is the world's smallest problem... :)

I have bought a little elf door. the elves are coming through it tonight to deliver an advent calendar to our 3.5 year old and 2 year old.

Do I show them the elf door and we blu tack it to the skirting board together and I tell them that the elf will come with advent calendars or do I stick it on secretly and then show them the door... and tell them the elf will come with the calendars

I can't help thinking if they see it's just a solid skirting behind it how will they believe an elf get through there? Am I over estimating the intelligence of a 3 year old?

Um, there is even less chance of them believing it if you get them to stick it on with blue tack!! Think about it!

Stick it on without them knowing Smile

I agree - I not sure why you would get them to stick it on with blue tack. I would probably do it myself and leave the advent calendars just in front of it with a small trial of glitter to the door... Tiny glittery footprints if you are totally bonkers use a small cardboard stencil.

what else do you use to stick it on with?

It's not about what you stick it on with. It's more the fact that the kids sticking it on is a little bit of a giveaway that it's just a decoration you stick to the wall

If you blue tac it it will get pulled off by curious little fingers. I'd get the superglue out tbh. And I'd have a handy way of getting it off as well. It should vanish as miraculously as it arrived. Might be worth buying a tester pot of paint for a touch up if required.

You absolutely have to do it in secret. And superglue the door shut. No point otherwise.

To sick things, those 3M hooks have a sticky pad that holds firm but you can peel them off without damaging the paint (we used them on Hallowe'en scene setters)

Can you Blutack it tonight and buy some 3M refills as a more lasting adhesive?

I would stick it on in secret and let the dc 'discover' it.

I think advent calendars in an obvious location with a trail of ting footprints back to a less obvious door is an inspired plan! I may steal this idea SoupDragon

brokenwardrobe no I don't think it's a thing but we have hand made by grandma advent calendars with pockets so nothing like it in a shop. I had an elf door that I bought from a charity fundraiser 2 days ago so thought I'd use it!

Thanks everyone I popped it on in secret but showed them the door and said the elves were coming tonight thru it to deliver the calendars. They were very excited.
