My dd (8) has just devastated me a little bit. She told me she knows I'm Father Christmas... And she knows I'm the Tooth Fairy.

Is it just me or is this a bit young to stop believing in these things?

Have I done something wrong?
Xmas GrinHmm

She finished with saying she would keep my secret, because her sister (6) still doesn't know and she doesn't want to ruin it. Sometimes I marvel at her brightness and her kindness.

I think my 8 year old is maintaining the pretence for my sake! Grin

I think by 8 most children will have worked it out for themselves.

What a relief. I don't remember when I stopped believing. Just thought 8 seemed so young lol Blush

But don't change anything. Continue as usual with all the surprises and the fun will continue for many a year. Continue to say oh what will Santa bring and so on. They know you know but it's a fun game.

My nine year old still very much believes. We had to tell our 12 year old the truth last year, when she was 10 going on 11. She refused to believe us at first. Now she knows but she still loves going along with it all, and still wants to visit Santa this year!

My 8 year old still believes, most definitely. I'm limping along. This the most wonderful belief.

My 8 yr old ds also recently told us he no longer believes. To be honest I was expecting it - I was 8 when I stopped believing. He's still very excited about Christmas though and in a way, though of course it can be a bit "sad" to know that a part of childhood is over, I am proud of him and that he has worked this out for himself, and that he desperately wanted to work it out (he told us some time ago that he wasn't sure he believed anymore but couldn't work out where the presents came from!). He is growing up and that is how it should be.

The traditions can continue though. We still put out a mince pie, carrot and milk for FC, despite DS being 11. And every morning there is an empty glass, the end of the carrot and a few crumbs. We also track him on NORAD which fascinates my nearly 70yo DM no end Xmas Grin
