Anyone going to bother trying to get a harrods slot?

I just got my priority booking through and it's Friday the 11th. I've no doubt they'll all be gone by then as we didn't get one last year. Have been looking at Kew Gardens though which looks good Smile

It's rather expensive this year, £10 per child I think.

We are going to Winter Wonderland, which is free.

We did go to Harrods last year. It is lovely if you are rich, or only have one child. We have seen the same Santa for the last few years! We have been priced out this year though.

We went two years ago was £10 per child then too but you get to spend it in store don't you?

We aren't in London but like to do something nice each year. I thought winter wonderland would be too busy outside of school what do you think?

Harrods was £10 per group last year.

Winter wonderland is pretty busy at weekends, but still very friendly and nice. Very Christmassy.

The ice rink and market at the NHM are worth a look too.

Ah they obviously didn't make enough money that way HmmGrin

It's tricky as its a very long day for us with a fifteen minute drive to the station and fifty minutes on the train, I love London at Christmas though!

WW is free to get in but you need to buy the tickets from the booths (£1 each) and the rides when we went last time were £3-£4 each for DC.

Kew Gardens- we went the first year my DC were Hmm. It was tipping down (outside of everyones control) but there weren't the lights that I'd imagined.
Lots of the staff telling you about the plants and throwing a marble into the lake which played music.

Never been to Harrods though

Hmm that doesn't sound great, the pictures looked really good!

We went to chessington garden centre last year which was good, except I got shouted at by a rather unsavoury young lady for looking at her two year old the wrong way Confused

Will probably give it a miss ????... Only managed to get a Thursday evening last year and we ended up giving it away to a friend who lived nearer, so she went.
All that stress to book it, then to get a crappy slot you don't really want.

Will be looking at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.. It's nearer to us and we have an annual family ticket. They said they were doing something Christmassy..

Will look at Kingdom of the elves in bluestone if we can get a day pass.. Doubtful, but we'll see.

My friend went to Lapland UK and was utterly blown away... Elton John was there with his kids!!

Spend where do you live?! Grin

Hmm how much is Lapland UK?

I think I'll try and get a slot for harrods and if I don't I'll look elsewhere.

I'm going to give legoland a try this year too. Although it is my last chance to go to Harrods on a weekday as DS starts school next year so I am tempted...what was the fiasco last year?

Report
SpottyTeacakes · 03/09/2015 11:47

I'm not sure about last year but when we went the year before at 11am on a weekday it was really quiet and we had a great time.

We went to legoland yesterday Grin no Father Christmas yet though!

I've just looked at Lapland UK it looks amazing! Not sure we can afford it though Shock

Went last year for 1st time and was disappointed. It was so overcrowded and stressful. Giving it a miss this year.

I'm waiting for Lapland UK until I think DS will ice skate! For the price of it, I want him doing everything they offer Grin also need a couple more years to convince DH it is worth it!

Report
SpottyTeacakes · 03/09/2015 12:26

I can't ice skate anyway and dd won't be able to either (mobility issues). Dh can have a go though Grin

what was the fiasco last year?

you cant just book you need to be a rewards card memeber and even then its tiered on what you spend so spend millions you get priority.

heard mixed things about lapland uk.

they process you and hold you in areas with v v expensive food and drink and some things you are and some you are not allowed to keep....

I went online at 9.08 this morning as soon as I got the email and all weekend slots had already gone as had the week running up to Christmas. Sad

Report
Stitchosaurus · 11/09/2015 16:05

I checked now for a nosy - all the classic slots are gone Shock so you'll have to fork out for the buffet or afternoon tea visit. I wonder if they had less of the £10 slots this year, in a deliberate move to make people pay more?

Report
Thelighthousekeeper · 11/09/2015 17:32

After trying to get a £10 slot I had a look at the slots with afternoon tea and they were all gone for those dates too!
