Christmas

8yo girls? What are you buying?!

I know her main present for her birthday will be a camera and for Christmas a sprite scooter.

But I need ideas on smaller presents. I have a list of books so that's covered but am stuck for other ideas!

Inspire me!

Place marking...! They are getting hard to buy for. My DD has unrealistic expectations too for some reason.

We only do one main present.

Then in stockings:
Something to wear
Something to read
Something to play
Something to eat

That's everything. So for you the scooter as main, then book in stocking to read. Then find something for the other three

My 8yo likes sparkly pink shite. Accessorize, paperchase and Claires seem to hit the spot!

I think my daughter would be happy if I bought the whole of Smiggle for her Grin

8 is such a variable age, DD loves toys still, some of her friends only want clothes.

On my longlist -

Monster High dolls

Girl tech password journal

Furbling (to go with last years Furby Boom, which was a great success.)

Sequin art

Gelarti

Depesche stuff is big with her friends, she likes the pony and fantasy stuff rather than Top Model.

Shopkins playset, she's been crazily into shopkins all year - we have loads - but I'll hold back and see if it lasts.

Jigsaw

this dog *(she loves Jack Russels) www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003NSBKZ0?colid=2Q0UFLP3X1T9Z&coliid=I38WK1VAV0BFY8&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Books

Onesie

Nerf Rebelle Bow

Thinking of getting these - she likes to go off into the woods on dogwalks, I think she'd have fun with these and we could keep tabs on her more easily.

The plan for DD1 (8, nearly 9 by Xmas) is:

  • Hudl (aiming to buy with Clubcard points nearer Xmas)

  • a ticket to see Mary Poppins musical

  • Aquarellum painting kit

  • one more thing TBC - waiting to see if there are any new crazes or she develops any new interests.

(She'll also be getting a Lego Friends set from one set of Gparents and a Cra-z Knit kit from the other set of Gparents.)

She'll be delighted with her 'lot' and we like to try and give a range of different types of gift if we can.
DD1 is an 8 yr old who is rapidly losing interest in toys and playing :-(

My 8 year olds hardly play with toys now and never Lego etc.
They like smiggle
They want hudls but we already have an iPad and I don't want to encourage more screen time
We have tonnes of craft stuff already
Books are on the list
Not sure what else? Have got Mary poppin tickets for birthdays
Dd wants a yu backpack, they look massive and are very expensive? Anyone got one ? May need to start seperate thread on that!

Those yu bags are horrible looking!

Report
Heels99 · 14/08/2015 15:13

agree the yu bags are ugly, very expensive and they look so big! They are only allowed small backpacks at school so when would she use it?

It's the only thing she has asked for, bday is in October. May get them both hudls, how much are they? I do have some tesco vouchers. Really don't want a giant ugly impractical backpack cluttering up the house,

Why does an 8 year old need a hudl if you already have an iPad? Wouldn't a basic kindle for reading be better?

My dd is 8. We're buying her a metal detector (she wants to be an archaeologist and is a member of the Young Archaeology Club).

We only buy one present and then some stocking fillers (toothbrush, socks, little pocket money toys, satsuma, flannel etc). I also buy some books over the year (charity shop, book people) and some audio books if I find any bargains. The Roald Dahl ones were available recently on the book people website if she's still young enough for them?

DD would LOVE a kindle. Absolutely love one. If money were no object, I'd buy her a hudl. She'd be over the moon.

Not sure why you'd buy a hudl if you already have an ipad. I have neither. Grin

I've decided against more Lego even though dd1 has shown interest in Lego elves.

She had the Lego Friends school last year, it was made on boxing day and is now mixed up with the other lego never to be made again.

Pointless to add more to that box.

DD will probably get...

a new onesie
Scarf, hat and gloves
new lip balm
and plague disclosing tablets which were a big hit a couple of years ago

How about getting her a new helmet and some accessories for her scooter?

My DD also loves Harumika but think she has enough for now. She would love the metal detector Smile

How about a subscription to Nat Geo Kids too? My DS has had this for years and still loves it.

Sounds odd I know but it was on a thread a couple of years ago. Something along the lines of "what do I put child's Christmas stocking that's not plastic shit". Bought them and it was one of their best Christmas presents, they loved them poor deprived mites Grin
