How to transport wrapped presents?

Hello lovely mumsnetters,

All of DP's family live at the other side of the country, so we do a longish visit to all of them (aunties, uncles, siblings...) at once. We travel by train and in previous years I've found that all my beautifully wrapped gifts (which have to be shoved in backpacks and suitcases due to the number of people we're buying for) have unwrapped themselves during the journey, or, at the very least, look really tatty by the time we get there. Does anyone have a magic solution to this? Would buying more expensive wrapping paper help matters any?

I bought Waitrose wrapping paper last year and it was much more robust. You could also do something arty with brown paper which is meant for the postal system and some string.

Can you put the presents in gift boxes instead of wrapping with paper?

Is there no way you can courier them across?
