Leapfrog leapreader/tag/I'm so confused

My ds will be 4 at the end of January. He's been recognising letters and numbers for the past year, and his previous nursery did a lot of work on this with him.

We're continuing with it ourselves, but his new nursery (we've moved from wales to scotland) focus on little mini projects such as the world around us, the ocean, people who help us etc, which is fair enough, each area does things differently! They are definitely doing phonics, but there's been a definite wane in, "that's an A for apple" etc.

However, he's still interested, and we think he'd enjoy the leapreader system, but to be honest, I have not got a fucking clue what one I need - is it leapreader or leapfrog tag reading system?

Are they any good? Will they help to bring him on? Will a wee one interested in reading and writing actually enjoy them, or is it a bit crap and gimmicky?

Leapreader is the updated version of Tag so what was called Tag is now called Leapreader. Books with 'Tag' on them work with Leapreader.

My son has Tag Junior (now called Leapreader Junior) and has loved it, it has been a massive hit with him since he got it for his second birthday. He will be getting Leapreader for Christmas.

I am not sure how interested in reading and writing it will make a child, my son is autistic and has developmental delays so we are in a different sort of situation and use it as a toy as he likes things that make fun noises and interacting with books in that way. He is interested in letters and spellings but that is partly because he enjoys things he can put an order to rather than an interest that is prompted by having Tag Junior although I am sure it supports it.

I think it is a good product and I have always been happy with the quality and range of things you can get for it. My son has books and letter cards for Tag Junior and at Christmas will have an interactive map and spelling cards as well as books.

That's brilliant, thanks! I got totally confused with the fact that the leapreader pack was 30 on amazon, but the tag reader was 60, and wondered why and what was going on!
