Christmas breakfast

We're going to MIL's on Christmas Day (2 hour drive away), so Christmas Day and the few days after will be run entirely to her plans (fair enough, it's her house).

We'll have to hit the road early enough, but I was hoping to have a fairly nice breakfast first. It'll (hopefully! Last year didn't really oblige) be relatively hot here, so I don't fancy standing over a hot stove on Christmas morning, but I'm quite happy to pre-prepare stuff the night before seeing as I won't be doing my usual Christmas Eve veg preparation and ham cooking.

Anyone have any suggestions both for food ideas and ways to make the actual breakfast a bit special? (DDs are 2 and 6 and the 6yo is already insanely excited about Christmas )

Can't really help I'm afraid as as DH has a family tradition that it's scrambled egg on toast and nothing else will do! If it was up to me I'd have croissants and things that require little effort and keeps me out of kitchen and in among the fun!

We always have bacon and/ or sausage sandwiches. Nice, filling and hot but don't require lots of slaving over a hot stove!

Pancakes? You could make the batter christmas eve.

We always have mini cereal packets and stick some croissant/pain au chocolat in the oven. Easy peasy.

The last couple of years I've made sticky spicy clementine pastries for breakfast. Really easy and can be made in advance and baked in the morning. DH then makes eggs, poached or baked in a ramekin with ham etc With a nice bottle of champagne. Then we normally go
out for Christmas lunch. This year DD will be 18 months so trying to think of something equally special and yummy for her!!

I open a box of biscuits and a bottle of bucks fizz....
But, more sensibly, croissants and pastries would make a nice indulgent choice without filling you up too much, bit of fruit and yogurt maybe to make it a bit healthier.

We always have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Bacon rolls or sandwiches here. Not real elaborate I'm afraid but definitely a tradition.

I forgot to say we're an egg-free house as DD2 has allergies and I just keep eggs out of the house for cross-contamination reasons.

But croissants, fruit, variety pack cereals and a nicely decorated table sound like they might be the way to go (and maybe those clementine pasties ).

We have Nigella's Christmas Morning Muffins - just make up the mix the night before and bung in Christmassy muffin cases and bake on Christmas morn. Yummy. Although they do contain egg so prob no use to you.

Apparently Waitrose sell frozen ready to cook pastries so I am going to try and get some of those to do this year as well cos I'm greedy AND lazy.

DC will still have Weetabix though. Sigh.
