ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT: This thread hasn't been posted on for a while.
Anyone want to discuss xmas present ideas yet?(48 Posts)
yeah go for it
tell me what to get mine
13, 8 and 6
Ds has already told me he wants lego and hot wheels. He is nearly 4 (and wants lego and hot wheels for his birthday too!)
I think I may need to think of a few alternatives though!
No trinity your meant to tell me! My DD is 10 & i swear has everything.
Ive trawled the xmas board all afternoon
havent done any work and im still none the wiser.
Ive asked her & she states nothing.
sirzy see your ds is helpful!
Ooh, I love a Christmas pressie thread!
DS is 5 and Minecraft daft. Seems there are a few Minecraft toys now so will investigate those further - he already has Minecraft lego.
DD will be 3 a few days before Christmas so needs birthday presents too! Thinking about a dolls house for her but not sure if she'd play with it. I like the look of the ELC Rosebud village stuff.
Think it gets more difficult as they get older - wouldn't have a clue where to start with a 10 year old!
im glad someone loves them hairy! Was worried i'd be told to get lost, that its only Sept!
it really is so much easier when younger. Shes 10 so shes in the 'thats not cool enough stage mum' but still in the too young to be cool stage.
dont even know if that makes sense
looks like youve got urs pretty much sussed though
Thank you milk - I was just about to suggest the Christmas Topic myself
and before Maryz goes ballistic
Thanks both but as above ive trawled the xmas board all afternoon havent done any work and im still none the wiser
although if i cant get any ideas from pages & pages worth of xmas posts then i clearly am in trouble here
Does it have to be a physical present or would tickets to a show or concert be an option?
Bump! Looking forward to hearing all the good ideas. Can't write mine yet but will be back.
That's actually not a bad idea to start thinking now. I'm pregnant and due in November. We're visiting my family who live abroad for Christmas, so 6 weeks after due date. I will need presents for my family and DP and I doubt I'll want to source them when caring for a newborn.
Might be a good idea to buy them when I go on mat leave in October so I need to start thinking now.
Now, as to what to buy... I'd need presents (at least) for my mum (53), brother (who's bday is 5 days before Xmas, he'll be 21, so I need 2 presents for him or 1 big one), and DP (30). And for mum's dog, a springer spaniel
I am supposed to buy my then probably 6-week old baby an xmas present? Maybe I'll put a bow around my boobs
which could also work as present for DP
The dog will be easy. Something
vile tasty. Or some kind of undestructible dog toy like this. He's got this from the same make when he was a puppy 5 years ago and after being buried in the garden on several occasions, chewed on, etc it's still in one piece. So I'd quite happily buy something from the same brand hoping it will prove to be just as sturdy.
My mum - also fairly straightforward. Chocolate or perfume or a combination of both. Maybe some wine/port/cava. 2 years ago I got her this Estee Lauder make up kit that they do for christmas and she was very pleased with it.
Brother - that's always the most difficult. What on earth do you buy for a 21 year old guy who's only interested in gaming? I've bought him computer games (response "I've already got that" or "I can just download that you know"), gadgets that are never used and vouchers for music etc (again, "I can just download that). Went all out 2 years ago and bought one very expensive "gift experience" with which he could choose an activity (e.g. skydiving, day on a race track, flying in a ULM etc) and to this day he has still not used it
Anyone any ideas? Can be fairly expensive as both 21st bday & christmas gift (or 2 separate things)
DP - also difficult. Maybe something to do with new dads. He only really ever wants DVDs of shows I hate so I try not to buy those otherwise I have to watch them with him That's selfish me coming out. He can't do perfume or smelly things (asthma) and couldn't care less about the clothes he wears ("you want me to spend £30 on a pair of jeans??? are you crazy? who spends that amount on some jeans?"). He loves sports though so I've bought him tickets to things in the past but there's not much one can go to in the middle of winter with a newborn.
Again, any ideas?
(wow, sorry, that was very long!)
oh a concert would be good, i'll have a look now
we saw one direction last year & i had a great time
didnt think of that again, thanks sirzy
Weve bought dd1&2 (8&10) a Samsung galaxy tab 3 there fab! Dh is now buying me one. You can buy the keyboard to go with them too
she has a kindlefire already. is the Samsung different? Im technology rubbish! I brought her an ipod touch for her birthday in July & only just figured out how to get music on it!
what about money miss? for your brother? that way he can pick what he likes
i also made the mistake of buying dp bloody boxsets that i hate & having to sit through them all
shakes fist at bloody doc martin
Not too sure, they have play books and wanted ipads but after visiting several shops and talking to the staff we were told the samsungs have the best software just now. Loads of free apps to keep them amued and the correct software to allow films to play.
I want to see One Direction.
Don't go buying anything for the new baby MissHC, you will be given tons. Plus a winter birthday means a long wait for presents again! We haven't yet bought DD anything for her Jan birthday, just waited to get garden toys in the summer. She will be 4 in the first week of Jan, and its so hard trying to think of things for Xmas and birthday because family always ask. I start writing a list in the summer now when I think of things!
For DH I got cuff links with 'Name's Daddy' on, sorry if that's twee. Or a keyring, personalised? For family we made baubles with a photo of DD inside and glitter to shake etc. Foot and hand print pictures also went down well with family.
My DBro is always a problem and I'm afraid I tend to wimp out and just give cash now. Luckily with the DC around I can get them to make something so he has a gift to unwrap but in truth, I don't think he cares.
10 year olds are tough too. I can't remember what I liked then. Probably music or books, so an iTunes voucher or amazon or something, so I could choose myself. Or offer to go clothes shopping in a big dept store or somewhere 'cool' if such a place exists?! I'm thinking maybe an outlet place like MacArthur Glen, have a nice meal, maybe a simple spa treatment thing for mum and DD. Make her feel grown up. But that might be too old still.
Any thoughts for adult brothers who always seem to get given alcohol?!
MissHC 21 year old gamer a subscription to a gaming mag, a blue snow ball gaming Microphone or astro gaming head set
Thanks for your suggestions.
I'd rather not give money to my brother
he'd just spend it on booze being a student I might ask my mum if she knows if there's anything he desperately wants.
I like the cuff links idea for DP. He wears suits a lot and loves his cuff links. I think we'll definitely print out some baby pics for all the family, that's also a good point. Family is very big so I don't want to buy everyone a separate present.
I have a 10-year old godchild. Last thing I bought was a "make your own jewellery" set. She likes crafts though. It was quite an expensive one to make bracelets and necklaces. According to her mum she loved it.
Thanks cantspel, I'll look into the gamer mag subscription but he's abroad and I'm not sure if they do them there. But that's something he might actually like
DB studies computing sciences so maybe a subscription to a mag linked to that might be good too.
He's got a super expensive head set to play his online war games so I don't think I can get anything to replace that as it will never be quite as good and I don't have the budget to get something that's on par with the one he has.
Please pop in to my pity party at having 2 dcs born it xmas week? dd1 is 16 on xmas day and dd2 is 2 on 23rd. So wtf am I gonna do with that bad bitch? <weeps>
How about a MIXAMP PRO or a Roxio Game Capture HD Pro so he can upload his game play on to you tube so that all the other gaming geeks can share.
(can you tell i am the mother of a teen gaming geek)
