Where to get an Elf on the Shelf?

Even looking on eBay I can't see any that don't break the bank; I would have thought that some of last year's might be up for sale. Where would you go to buy yours?

I got mine from the book depository last year for £20ish. not cheap but saw it as an investment. you can just buy any old elf though but probably need to wait until nearer the time

I bought a bog standard elf (technically I think it'd a pixie) from tiger last year for £4. Im going to see if I can make them more xmassy with some glitter and tinsel.
I think they are nicer than the ones that come with the book.

I bought an elf from Amazon think it was 15 quid. You can usually get the rest of the stuff online.

Thanks samlamb that's great and considering getting that one. My DD loves books and I would love to get the book too. Anyone know where I can get just the book from?

I have just pre ordered the elf on a shelf from ebay for 29.99 with free postage, not cheap and I could have got a cheaper elf off amazon but I wanted the "proper" elf as I have also bought the elf on the shelf dvd so wanted them to match. ... im weird like that! I figure it's an investment as it'll last for years....maybe ill hand it on for future grandkids.

I bought a small pair of fake fur boots last year. They were meant to be a tree decoration but I cut the ribbon off, put them in the fireplace (it's a big one with one of those black stove fires with a door in it so it was safe) and told DS that the elf in the chimney had left them there.

He was thrilled and I said the elf was shy so peeped out when we weren't looking.

He's also got a set of Russian dolls painted like Father Christmas that he keeps out all year. They came from Poundland and I told him that Father Christmas can use anything that looks like him to keep watch every now and again and check who's being naughty or nice.
