Following the fab Christmas bargain thread, I thought I would start a thread for those with teenage DC's, who can be difficult to buy presents and stocking fillers for.

My DS's will be 12 and 14 by Christmas and I remember last year they were struggling for ideas for presents, so I don't suppose it will be any easier this year. I haven't really given it any thought yet, but time is marching on!

So get your thoughts/links coming!

Also if they like wearing lots of funky jewellery etc, maybe beads and elastic? I gave one DSD a 'make your own safety pin bracelet' kit which went down well.

Geeky T shirts are popular with men/boys, this year I'm getting DH this dr who one

Glad to see this thread!

I'm stuck for ideas for my 15yo DSDs. They really never ask for much bless them.

Usually we get them lots of smaller bits, though have done iPods/phones etc over the years (always communicate with their mum about what she is getting).

They have started getting an allowance this year so they are able to buy themselves the kind of stuff (DVD box sets etc) that we would normally get.

For their birthday I gave them cinema vouchers and they were really happy with that but they now have unlimited cards so that's out too!

Hoping to get them net books for their 16th next year but no clue what to do this Xmas. They are quite young for their age IYSWIM so don't like make up etc.

Last Xmas these mini speakers went down well.

Thank you for starting this teen version. Am picking up some really useful ideas for ds (13).

VoldemortsNipple Mon 02-Sep-13 22:47:15

Ds1 (14) and ds2 (11) are getting the new Xbox One between them this year, so will only be getting the odd few bits on top.

Last year though was a nightmare. The only thing ds1 asked for was Xbox games. So after consulting the power of mumsnet, I got to thinking about his hobbies. Ds1 is in cadets, so I made him a cadets/survival kit hamper. So all the things he would need for going away to camp that he didn't already have, were put together in a big box. Ds was made up routing through and fiddling with all his bits.

Other hits were, Game of Thrones book, voucher for Game, smellie sets, Holister aftershave and a Holister hoodie.

For dds in early 20s stockings include hair stuff,'make up, toiletries,'knickers, miniatures of booze, warm socks, earrings, quirky bits and bobs.
For young teen Ds stocking includes sweets, boxers, socks, stuff from Hawkins Bazaar, jokes, wind up bugs, stickers etc
They all get a lush bath bomb as well.

DD 11yo is no problem to buy for. Into her nail varnish/bath smellies/earrings

DS (14 in December) - total nightmare hmm

He loves money. He doesn't spend the money. He keeps it in a jar until it goes to the bank. His £50 note sat till April until I put it in his account.

X-Box points
Not clothes - not bothered- but we got him a Sheldon T-Shirt (red one with the man-robot ).
I buy him pants/socks in his stocking. He needs new ones anyway.
I buy him bath smellies , maybe Lush.

He gets gadgets ( emergency charger, earphones ) during the year though.

chirpchirp Fri 23-Aug-13 10:51:48

Can I point you towards the Qwertee facebook page. They do a new t-shirt everyday, it's only available to buy for 24 hours and it's £10 including postage. Full of lots of geeky designs doctor who, star wars, big bang, adventure time, my neighbour totoro etc. I've had a few from them both for myself and as gifts and the quality is really good but best of all I've got a pretty unique T-shirt. I can't remember what the deal is with returns however.

I do hot chocolate every year - and I add either mini marshmallows or squirty cream - that goes down very well.

only one teen, and one who will be a teen next summer. both boys.

both getting a 3ds with a game
both will get a playstation game
the usual pants, socks, toothbrush, choc coins, tin of lynx, earphones etc in stockings.
both will get a new shirt for xmas day

other than that i have no idea.
