Have 15 people for Xmas dinner/lunch (OMG!). Just asking my mum for tips & she said to cook the gammon the day before. I had no intention of serving gammon with the turkey. Is it expected on a Xmas dinner?
No, turkey will be enough, particularly if you are doing sausages wrapped in bacon, stuffing, etc.

I havn't done it myself. Usually just pigs in blankets
I usually do a turkey crown and gammon I'm not sure if its normal or not though. I certainly wouldn't expect it if I was going elsewhere for dinner.
I dont serve Gammon or Turkey....but if your Mum thinks it can be cooked the day before why dont you suggest she brings it

No I would never serve gammon with Christmas dinner.
Turkey, stuffing and pigs in blankets - surely that's enough meat?!

We have turkey and gammon ( and stuffing , pigs in blankets etc )
Last year I cooked the turkey in the oven , and the gammon in the slowcooker in the utility room .

I do the same as Chrismiss turkey crown and gammon (or is it ham? I'm never sure
.)
But I don't think its essential.

I am having 17 round and yes, I will do the gammon the day before. We will have turkey, gammon, sausages with bacon, stuffing, gravy, cranberry, bread sauce,sprouts with chestnuts, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, peas and carrots. Smoked salmon as starter, Christmas pudding and mince pies (puddings and mincemeat already made) with cream and brandy butter. Everything above is what I understand constitutes a traditional Christmas meal but I am interested on what other opinions you receive OP.

Nemno - I planned in doing exactly the same as you for dinner, minus the gammon! No starters but nibbles with drinks on arrival & same puds but also Delias chocolate bread & butter pudding.
i dont have turkey or gammon on my christmas dinner. will be having duck on christmas day, last year we had goose and beef, year before was lamb. the gammon is for boxing day along with the leftover meat from christmas day.

We have turkey and gammon, but not together for Christmas dinner. Gammon gets cooked Christmas Eve, eaten hot for tea that night, then hangs around as a cold cut for a couple of days. Turkey for dinner Christmas day and then joins the hammy leftovers.
Can't beat a turkey, gammon, cranberry sauce and bread sauce sarnie about 8pm Christmas day...
There's also a good chance these will be further supplemented by a beef joint cooked rare to eat cold on Boxing Day (DH loves his meat...)
But agree, I don't think it would be expected, especially if you've got all the trimmings with the turkey. If your mum wants it, suggest she brings it!
Were having a 3 bird roast, kilted sausages, stuffing, roast & boiled potatoes and yorkshire puddings with gravy starter is home made soup (already in freezer) followed by a cheat gateau and homemade cake
I will be preparing as much as poss the day before

Interesting to hear what everyone's planning on serving! I'd rather have a fillet steak than turkey but tradition wins! My sister thinks Xmas dinner is incomplete without Yorkshire puds but IMHO that's just wrong!!!
Bought a turkey crown and gammon joint today for Christmas! Will eat the gammon over the next few days after Christmas though!

No. I would never do two meats. My MIL always does two meats for all roasts and I find it decidedly odd. She says it is so people can have a choice, but they all just have both. I will cater for dietary requirements, but other than that people get what I'm serving.
I can't stand turkey crown either though. Yuck. Brown meat is the best bit!
We're not having turkey this year. First time ever!
We always have turkey and ham. I wondered if it was an Irish thing? We dont have pigs in blankets or bread sauce though or a meat stuffing.
This year we are having nibbles as starter - would normally do prawn cocktail but MIL will be here and she is severely allergic to prawns. Xmas dinner will be turkey, ham, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips, sprouts with almonds and bacon, peas and yorkshires (yorkshires for DS who will also have sweetcorn!).
We will cook the ham on Xmas Eve and although we have lasagna for dinner on Xmas Eve we will keep room for a ham sandwich and a glass of milk before bed! Family tradition going back to us coming home from the pub Midnight Mass on Xmas Eve starving and Dad making a pile of ham sandwiches.

Gammon cooked on Christmas Eve here, but we don't usually have it wth Christmas Dinner, just available as a cold cut over Christmas.
We are having Turkey, Bacon wrapped sausages, Forcemeat stuffing, sage and onion stuffing, roast potatoes, onions and parsnips, mashed potatoes, mashed carrot and swede, pureed parsnips, leeks in white sauce, glazed carrots, sprouts, cranberry sauce, apple sauce, gravy and yorkshire pudding. The yorkshires are a recent addition but the DC love them.

it's kind of our family tradition that every year DH makes a ham/gammon. We tend to pick at it during the day along with sausage rolls and other nibbles, but don't serve it with Christmas dinner. We will also eat it on boxing day and whatever is left after that, I make into pies along with any left over turkey.
Goneshopping I actually agree but OH bottom lip would wobble if i didnt make them I swear he would eat them with anything
