I don't like Amaretto, it's too syupy. And nothing coffee or orange flavoured.
My mind has gone blank. What do you like?
Goldschläger
It's cinnamon schnapps with bits of edible gold leaf in it. Seasonal perfection.
Sounds good
I bought this Toffee Vodka at a country show and I love it.
BUT... I do think it's a bit Kahlua-esque, which is coffee. See if you can get a sample!
For Christmas I generally like the staples of Baileys (or Amarula, for something a bit lighter) & sherry (all types, from fino to cream). And whiskey, port, brandy and dessert wine - but many of the aforementioned are fortified wines, not liqueurs strictly.
Yes I generally prefer fortified wines too; I like port. What does Amarula taste like? I've never had it.
Toffee vodka looks nice though.
Glayva is lovely. Also just bought a honey rum from Spain whilst on holiday last week which is yum but have no clue of the name. Helpful!
Baileys is calorific but bloody delicious. Shame you're not keen on anything orange as the new orange truffle flavour is truly a wonder
Ooooh was just going to say Glayva. I love Enva Cream too - remonds me of being treated like a grown up when I was very small - think my great grandma probably used to give me a small glass from the age of about 5.
I hate bloody Baileys - have 4 bottles of it in the garage and am sure that it will be all gloopy and curdled when I finally come to do something with it - probably pour it down the loo!
Ice cold vanilla vodka is divine. Not a liqueur per se, but it does go quite thick and syrupy when you put it in the freezer, and it is just a bit sweet, but not too sweet.
Frangelico is nice - hazlenutty but not overly sweet.
Sambuca is lovely, and not at all sweet.
I was introduced to Licor 43 when I was in Oz.
Tiz lush! It doesn't seem to be on general sale over here but luckily, they sell it on Amazon
Madame I'm coming to live in your garage for Christmas!
Daddypigssecretadmirer - Can you drink the 4 bottle of that awful cough liquer stuff in the green bottle too - the german one which I can never remember the name of?
Ooh thanks to you all for your suggestions. If only we could organise a nice little tasting session
I remember my parents having Benedictine at Christmas. It blows your socks off.
I just looked up Glayva. They market it as 'the best liqueur in the world'. That's confidence in your product!
I had some sloe gin recently. It was fab.
Amarula is slightly tropical. It's quite like Bailey's but less alcoholic tasting & not as gloopy. I don't know how to describe it really!
I forgot Limoncello.
Madame - Jagermeister? Hideous stuff. Have to say... I feel the same about things like Goldschlager, but I'm impressed that poster discovered how to put an umlaut on the a.
Oh yes - jenny is right, sloe gin is divine. My M&D gave me some homemade stuff; tastes like subtle cough medicine.
Thats it Eugenes - hideous stuff - every BBQ party we have someone brings one (well DHs old Uni friends do). Am not sure anyone in the world can like the frightful stuff.
I like a Crème de Menthe frappé now and again, and second the limoncello and sloe gin, especially if home made.
Madame, sounds vile, but what the hell, it's Christmas, I'd give it a damn good go. Maybe after the Baileys, when I'm more inclined to not give a stuff what I ingest??
A tasting session sounds exactly what I need right now. Round mine with all your half full leftover bottles at say, what, 8.30?
Anyone ever had Grappa? I saw a bottle of Raspberry Grappa the other day. Sounded like it could either be lovely or the start of a hellish headache.
Grappa is disgusting.
I like glayva or drambuie.
Madame, my cousins would gladly take the Jaegermeister off your hands. Don't see the attraction myself, I'd rather have baileys!
Oooh were did you see Raspberry Grappa Bendy? Sound wonderful, grappa is rather like marc.
You guys can have it - bloody awful stuff.
Am in North Essex if you can all get here through the snow. DH is out until 8ish would be funny if he came home to find 4 empty bottles and lots of sloshed women/men!
Limoncello is nice. Lemony and sweet/sour. I bought some in Italy where they make it.
I'm also very fond of dessert wine, there are usually a few different bottles of it on a supermarket shelf. It lasts ages in the fridge too (unlike ordinary wine). I think it must be because it's so sweet.
