Does your DC give presents to their secondary school teachers?

As my DS is in Y7, this is new to me. Whereas in primary he'd give a gift to a few members of staff (class teacher, TA, Headteacher and lollipop lady), is it the done thing (aka 'cool') to give your form tutor a pressie?

I'm kinda guessing that the other kids, esp boys, in his forum wouldn't, but thought I'd check on here Grin

Thanks

Mine never did. Just keep quiet and leave it to him- I would guess he won't.

Well it is 20 years since I was in school but I never did - would things have changed that much? Maybe if a teacher had done something really special to help the child, but not as a general rule.

No! They do occasionally take a tin of chocolate brownies to share in their tutor group at Christmas or end of term but no presents.

No. It's one of the great things that happens when they leave primary!

DD is in yr 9. She has given a small box of chocs to her form tutor in yr 7 and yr 8, but she has been really really fantastic and richly deserves them.

Tbh, DS's form tutor and SENCO have been wonderful so far....but I think DS would get teased for giving them a gift. He's a vulnerable fella as it is, so don't want to give others something easy to target him with! If it's not the norm, it's best for him to follow suit.

Hopefully a little appreciative email to the 2 members of staff, from Dad and I, will do!

Last year my DS class put a £1 in each to buy a present for their form teacher.
He's in Yr 8 this year, so I presume they'll do the same.

We send in a bottle of wine for his tutor 'cos we love her but I think it's not usual in his school tbh
