My LO 6yrs has just asked for a hexbug set. Does anyone have them? Are they any good? They just seem very expensive...about £10 for a bug that moves!!

I bought the 'Hive' for my friends little boy for his birthday, he's 5, he still plays with it loads a year on. It's about £20. It's self contained so packs away easily which most of the others don't. I think it only came with one bug, so I bought another as well. Look at Argos, they usually have specials on. I bought about 100 batteries off of eBay for £5 incl postage.

My friends little boy loves his two bugs. He spends ages making his own little mazes for them. I bought two starter sets from amazon for a reasonable price.

Do you mean Hexbug Nano or the bigger ones?

We have a few Hexbug Nano sets (the bridge set plus quite a lot of extra bits). I think you need a reasonable amount of the stuff so they can build different configurations, otherwise it soons gets boring. Ours get used a lot as space stations for LEGO men etc Grin

Thank you all for your replies...I now understand that there are nano ones and larger ones...do the larger ones still fit on the nano bridge set?

Thank you bunny for the link, my local are all sold out but they do have some at smyths so will try going tomorrow or Tuesday. I think my LO will love this...he's animal mad so cross fingers it will be a success on Christmas Day!! X

Play.com were doing the smaller hexbugs for £2.69 free postage which is a bargain. I got several for the dc's stockings and ds1 is getting a hive too. The Entertainer has really good deals for the sets or Black Friday starts tomorrow on Amazon they may feature on there.

Another friends little boy has a bigger set - which seems like a better idea, but in fact really isn't unless you have somewhere that it can stay set up all the time, it's a PITA if it has to get packed away all the time. That's the major advantage to the Hive I think, it folds into itself and you can even take it to friends/grandparents etc The hive has little ramps and round about things that seem to provide hours of fun for the adults too Just don't forget a large mulitpack of the little batteries (as I said, really cheap on eBay!) and a few extra bugs.

This is the hive all the bits can be moved to make different routes/challenges.
