...show any interest in Christmas whatsoever? Presents for DCs, family? Decorations? Food?

Haha - nope!! I think he thinks that the elves do all our shopping. In fact, he finds buying my present so traumatic he usually has to take two a whole day off work to do it Grin

My DH has apparently already bought my present, and he's already asked BIL and SIL what our nieces and nephews want. He also came up with idea for a present for my mum. I am wondering who the imposter is, and what has he done to my DH. Confused Grin

Yep, DH is a huge kid when it comes to Christmas. Has already started talking about decorations, family do's and Christmas trips.

Not always that much help on a practical level when it comes to picking presents or planning the food but always willing to muck him if given jobs (doesn't bother me as I'm a control freak I love organising so happy to take charge!!)

Follyfoot · 12/11/2012 16:53

DH isnt remotely interested in the tree or decorations indoors, but does some really pretty lighting each year in the garden. The lady next door says she really looks forward to his lights Smile

He does his own Christmas shopping - I assumed from the start that he would do so there was never a question about that really. He has been known to buy some cards, and writes them for his side of the family and some friends.

DH might think of the odd present ideas, eg He may have spotted something that his parents could do with.

Apart from that I generally buy everything. He just moans about the cost - He nearly had a heart attack at the price of Lego!

He hates the decs going up as it usually ends with the kids being really annoying with their 'Helping'.

Usually have to remind him numerous time to write at least a few close family cards or he'd happily let me do it all.

I am however abit of a control freak so would only worry if I left it up to him!

Blush He doesn't really get chance to. I like to be organised so sort most stuff out because he likes to do things last minute. I've bought all the presents for my side of the family, dh & the kids, wrapped them and sorted them into groups (i.e. stuff to go with my parents next time they visit, stuff for friends nearby, stuff for our house), written my Xmas cards and done my online food shop.

Dh has got a couple of presents that he bought when we were shopping together. He's bought my main present cos I sent him an email saying "I'd love these for Xmas if you need an idea and if you want to get me them order them now, they are custom made and need to be shipped here" but they're still unwrapped a month later Hmm.

We do the decorating together. We usually have a day out where we choose a tree.

Maybe we're not completely abnormal then (in this respect, anyway). He doesn't seem to get it, certainly not from small children's point of view.

Yes, a lot, very much so, we have a shared spread sheet for present organisation Blush

He gets me presents and he has them delivered to his work place so I don't see them. We research presents for the children together and talk about it and he is even more than a bit giddy about Elf on a Shelf that we are doing this year.

He is heartily involved with the food suggestions and what food to get in and enjoys shopping for it too.

The only thing he doesn't do is the Christmas tree, he takes photos whilst me and the DCs put the thing together and decorate it. And I decorate the house because I am more crafty/arty than he is.

Yes, I know he is amazing, because he cares about the stuff I care about and I am completely smitten with him even after 17 years.

How lovely, Pickled Gherkin. And how terribly sad that makes me as I think this Christmas is symptomatic of our whole relationship.

He'd have the tree up tomorrow if I let him, especially as he's just had 60 tree novelty chocolates delivered on Saturday

He's planned the Xmas day menu....although wont be cooking it. I did have to reign him back as it sounded like i'd be cooking from Christmas Eve till Boxing day with no sleep whatssoever. Kids toys have been bought and he's itching to do the big food shop now.

We're both as lazy as each other I'm afraid Blush. I just don't get what the fuss is with Christmas. I like it, a lot, but I don't feel like it takes a lot of effort. We had 10 people over for Christmas Day last year, MIL thought we'd burst into flame with stress (she would) but it was absolutely fine, had a great time. All we had to do was buy a tonne of food, which isn't exactly hard. DH puts about the same amount of effort in as I do.

He's very interested in the food ...

but nothing else really

Report
OddBoots · 12/11/2012 17:24

He would do the sorting if I didn't, I tend to organise Christmas as I love it but he does his share by doing the things I ask him to. He enjoys it all though.

Yes.

He likes to buy the cgildren's presents and he likes to take them to choose the tree.

He also prompts me to order a turkey etc

nope DH does nothing, but as I buy nearly everything second hand, he does endlessly run around for me, he also builds things as requested

Dh loves Christmas. I guess because it is all about family.

He:

  • does the tree and the decorations
  • hangs the stockings
  • organises Christmas music/games
  • buys the bulk of the kids' presents
  • buys for his own family and me
  • Christmas Eve ritual of something for Santa/Rudolf and then when he puts dc to bed they watch out the window for a sighting of Santa's sleigh.
  • food on the day is a team effort.

Dh believes in:-
The present fairy
The wrapping fairy
The christmas card fairy
The food purchasing fairy
The christmas cake fairy
The cooking fairy.

He has discovered over the years that the fairy is a bit -lazy-- overworked and can't help with presents, cards, wrapping for his family and me!

He does however enjoy getting and decotating the tree.

Yes, he loves organising and choosing our DS's presents, and is much more generous than I would be Grin. He puts up outside lights, buys the tree (prefers me to decorate it) - loves all the church services. We don't buy each other presents because he has terrible taste but is very happy for me to choose my own ! We share card writing and have got present giving down to the absolute minimum so that suits us both !

We try not to do the same thing every Christmas and he always has fun, original suggestions Smile.

My dh is the same (if not worse), i do all the buying, he does all the moaning about how much it all costs, he doesn't write cards, he will buy me something on christmas eve (something i dont want), christmas morning her will spend 2 hours sat on the loo whilst the kids wait, by luch time he's asleep in the chair and on boxing day he's asking to take the tree down.
