I've decided I need new Christmas music this year. I currently have some mix cd's of the typical Christmas songs I made years ago and don't shoot me the 2 glee Christmas albums. But I need new ones. I would quite like some back ground type ones, I.e. Christmas carols / piano ones and also someone singing. Maybe Michael bubble type?
So hit me with your favourites and improve my Christmas music listening!
Last year my dad got one by Annie Lennox, I think it was called a Christmas Cornucopia or something like that? I really love it, it's traditional carols but with a very unusual style (might be worth borrowing from a library first as it is something of an acquired taste)
Also love The Choirboys (just a trio of boys who sing like angels!) and a larger choir called Libera.
Joy To The World by Brian Houston is a wonderful and uplifting Christmas album
Oo Annie Lenox does sound like a good idea!
I have one of the Rat Pack (Rat Pack sings Christmas?) which is nice, and a general compilation (Best Christmas Album in the World or some such) as well as the DIT Chamber Choir Christmas Album of about 10 years ago (lovely choral music and a few organ only tracks too).
I must have a wander around iTunes though, to see what I can upload to DD's iPod and use that downstairs
And I have also found, through the iPod, a few Christmas channels on the internet radio, some are naff but some are nice (try Live365 and there's a load of them there).
We are using Spotify again this year and they have loads, plus you can easily create playlists, so more chilled out ones at certain times of the Christmas season.
I like the Rat Pack one, plus there is a Ally McBeal(sp?) soundtrack which is enjoyable but I like a mix of pop, classical and some hymns too.
Try Kate Rusby, she's done two Christmas albums- While Mortals Sleep and Sweet Bells. It's albums full of Yorkshire carols (carols sung loudly in the pubs of South Yorkshire) and folk so some are familiar some aren't but all are amazing. She's got an amazing voice- girl, guitar and a brass band!
The soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas link
I also like Trans Siberian Orchestra, but I come from a metal family.
Handel's Messiah if you're feeling incredibly poncy.
+1 for Annie Lennox, a Christmas Cornucopia
Some great suggestions thanks! Will try Kate rusby and transiberian orchestra, I've only ever heard one of their Christmas tracks but liked it!
I think Sweet Bells is the better Christmas album I think- had a sneaky pre- December listen yesterday. Her other normal albums are also great if you like her too. Am dragging DH to her on of her Christmas concerts in December and I am soooo excited. Am not Kate Rusby by the way, just a bit in love with her!
This one
Track three is a blinder....
Bought SIL Annie Lennox last year and she liked it.
Dons hard hat.
Phil Spector (I know)
and Neil Diamond.
We love the album called 'Christmas' by Low
Totally bonkers but great fun is Bob Dylan's 'Christmas in the Heart'
Very easy listening on Christmas morning is Michael Buble's Christmas songs and we also love the Annie Lennox and Kate Rusby Christmas songs.
Thanks Binfull that looks great - just ordered from Amazon can't wait for it to arrive!
If you have a DAB radio, tune into Smooth Radio's Xmas station. It plays non stop Xmas music and saves you the problem of which CD to buy.
Thanks practical, re-tuned this morning and it is staying til end of Dec! x
Duke Ellington - reworking of the nutcracker (three suites I think it's called).
Peggy lee the holiday album
Bette Midler - cool Yule
I've just downloaded the most amazing free iPhone ap. it's called Xmas radio. 50 Radio stations, from all different countries, all playing just Christmas music. I can't believe I never knew Christmas radio stations existed!
Ooh thanks for the iPhone app suggestion. Will look at that.
I downloaded Michael bubles Christmas album last year. It's not too cheesy.
I've just ordered my Dad the new Katherine Jenkins Christmas one, it looks like its got some good songs on it here. Has anyone got it?
Has no one said Phil Spectre?(even though he wasn't a very nice man, we don't mention that!)
A Christamas Gift FOr You.
It is the definitive Christmas Album in our house. White Christmas, silent Night, winter Wonderland etc etc. ooh I feel all Christmassy just thinking about it!
I can tolerate bubbles but not Katherine with her cold dead sharks eyes
The Glee Christmas album that they brought out last year is a winner in our house! Thanks for reminding me, going to dig it out and get it on tomorrow whilst I get the decorations up
