Ah sorry but making my own is a step too far this year. I have just finished making Delia's custard for trifle involving eggs and everything and her homemade sausage rolls involving real sage etc. I got inveigled(sp) in when I opened the 2004 complete Christmas magazine.
Tomorrow I am making bread sauce and stuffing.
I might go back and get those Bhs crackers that were reduced.

last year we had the ones where the box turns and toys turn into a board game, that was good

I think you should go out and buy the cheapest ones you can find. Never underestimate the fun you'll have.

I fondly remember the year that we bought a box costing about £3. We were eating in semi darkness by candle light, and the cracker went crack, but we couldn't find the toy.

No great loss we thought, at least we have the hat.

Five minutes later, there was much outraged spluttering as the toy turned up. An unwrapped marble, nestling in the sage and onion stuffing on my fathers plate .

MIL always gets some cheap ones, opens them up carefully and adds some extra things. Last year there were lottery scratch cards and a little chocolate.

ObiWan...we had much the same experience in the 1960s with my mother and the "plastic sprout". Candles not to blame....more like a bottle of Enva Cream before lunch.

sprout racing crackers from tesco. Had them last year - DC ahve kept the sprouts even though their wind up mechanism is fading fast! have a new box hidden for Xmas day

I used to make my own with little puzzles in but feel I have done that too many times now. Last year we had racing robins which were quite fun although we didn't really do the proper race thing all together. This year there are eight of us and we are having the musical whistle ones. It remains to be seen whether we will co-ordinate and try to play a tune with them or whether the children will make a racket on them all afternoon/into the new year until they get "lost". I also fancy the hotel chocolate ones but haven't done that yet.

SIL had some musical ones. They were only cheap and each had a little whistle instrument thing-y in it. Then we had a concert afterwards using some music sheets that came with. Much fun was had by all
