Christmas

I've ignored DS santa letter and bought him something he really wanted for his birthday in the summer - stupid, brave or good idea?

So DS has changed his mind a billion lot's of times about what he wants. Usually which Lego thing or Hornby train bits he wants. He has lego and Hornby already so won't be without if he doesn't get more iyswim?

So when deciding what to buy him and trawling the internet I came across miniture remote controlled helicopters recommended for children aged 8 upwards for £35. (DS is 7.4). He really wanted one for his birthday but the ones I could find were recommended for 10+ years so I explained to DS it was a toy for when he was older. He still mentions getting one when he's old enough and gets shiny coins in his advent train from my Mum so can buy some lego in the sales.

Last year and the year before DS only asked for 1 thing and that was all he wanted and never changed his mind so it was easier to buy for him!

His letter to Santa (final copy!) asked for Hornby track and my mum is getting him some accessories but not track and a digital camera because he loves taking photos and always talks about having a camera when he's older.

So has anyone ever just got something and ignored the 'list' and how did this pan out? Are my visions of a very exited DS opening his 'big boy' toy on Christmas day realistic?!

Sounds like the helicopter is the thing he wants, but he's accepted he can't have one till he's 10 so has sensibly stopped asking.

I think you'll need heavy duty ear defenders on Christmas morning to damp out the screams of delight Grin

Am sure he'll be happy.

My son who is only 5 threw a huge tantrum when I said he couldn't have one of those.

A list/ letter to santa in this house is suggestions only, they accept they may get all/ some/ or none of the things on the list but if they are good they will get something and bloody well be grateful for it. Xmas Grin seriously though we can not even start to keep up with what others buy so moderate expectations accordingly.

I am sure he will be bouncing on christmas day whatever he gets!

The bouncing usually starts when he realises Santa's been Xmas Grin

He has accepted it about the helecopter (mentions about when he's 10 a lot though whenever we see one!) which is why I was so pleased to find a suitable one! It's hand size and can't be flown 10m from him so played with in the garden it's pretty failsafe and won't be landing on any motorways!

He wrote a very sweet letter to Santa saying it had been hard to be good this year and sorry for the bad things he done! He said if Santa thinks he's been good enough (gud enuff!) could he have some Hornby track.

Doris Thanks. Things are tight here and I don't spend a fortune on DS. He gets the 1 present at £30/40 and then he has cars/puzzles etc from poundshop! I spend £50 on him - which to me is a lot - so like to ensure his 'big' thing is meaningful and worth it. as he'll get nothing until his birthday in Augest!

Just a word of warning - those helicopters are very flimsy. DH got one a few years back (and he is obviously an adult) and it broke after the first crash in a field. I have heard others confirming that it they are rubbish, so just wanted to warn you that it might not be what you expect.

Hopefully it will withstand landing on the grass! I hope it lasts longer than xmas day. I got one that was polysteryne some airhogs thing you put onto a charger and fly and it lasted the whole summer until it hit a flint stone wall at the castle! I will chose carefully where this one is flown - no walls, trees paths etc.

Yes, definitely no walls, asphalt etc. They are very fragile, DS went through a few already.

I think he'll be delighted Smile

Gosh hope you have more joy than we've had with remote controlled flying toys. Ours have all been returned the week after Christmas and we've tried a good few.

Ds always always puts another his Christmas list again though Hmm.
